Welcome to Disney!
Landing at the airport in Orlando, you are definately aware that you have hit the home of the MOUSE! There is a prominent theme of Disney in the design and shops. I had to pry the kids away from the princess outfits and hustle over to baggage claim. Yes, you can leave your luggage and they will deliver it to your Disney resort via the Magical Express. I choose not do this as several reviews said it can take 3 hours+ to get your bags and since we were arriving late at night, I didn't want to wait. But waiting, although they are ever-so-nice about it at Disney, is definatley part of the game. It is actually a whole exercise in delayed gratification. At Disney, you wait and then you wait some more.
On the bus to the hotel, we were shown a marketing video/entertainment show of all things Disney had to offer-especially the ones that you had to pay extra for. Since we were waiting anyway for the bus to drop off other people at other Disney resorts, we had plenty of time to view this video. Once at the hotel, we waited some more, checking in was not as streamed lined as I imagined. Once in our room, we were able to get settled. All good!
We had a large suite at the Modern Resort which was awesome. Separate Mom/Dad room, 2 bath rooms, kitchen area, dinning table, 3 balconies, and a pull out sofa for the kids. It was plenty large enough. Not as luxurious as I imagined but still nice. As we discovered later, the balconies where unusable at night due to the insects. One night, the kids left the door open for a minute and our room was flooded with bugs. Jeremy and I spent the next hour tracking and killing them. The butler had no bug spray available, which surprised me as the bug problem seems massive in Florida.
Our suite was part of the concierge level which meant we had an area where they had a daily breakfast, light lunch and snacks at night The desserts where great and we saved a lot of money being able to grab stuff from there instead of ordering room service or going out for breakfast. It was fast and easy which is one of the few things at Disney that is.
Day 1 -
Probably the funest time was breakfast with the Characters. Mary Popins was very fun yet proper and helped Joslyn get her shoes on the right foot, literally. Jeremy and I had the girls do a tickle ambush on Winnie the Pooh. Got that on video. Jeremy got some tips on crazy party faces from the Mad Hatter.
Then it was off to Magic Kingdom. The best thing that ever happened to me is injuring my ankle...I have had the sucker taped for 6 months and haven't run in a year BUT...becasue of it, we scored a handicap pass which got us through lines faster and seriously decreased our wait time. Yes, we still waited and yes it sucked but it was the basically the same as the "fast pass" system so it wasn't perfect but definatley helpful. At MK, we had the best time on the teacup ride. I never heard my kids laugh so much.
Day 2 -We hit Epcot center and had the best time at Finding Nemo experience. We walked through all the countries and dropped some serious coin at the Hello Kitty store in Japan. This is also the day the kids started to lay down, just anywhere, get tired and lay down, say on the cement, while we were in line, whatever. Thirty six hours into the vaca and they were pooped. Still didn't go the sleep at night or sleep in late.
Dinner @ chef mickeys was a highlight. You would think Mickey would be a draw but our kids liked Pluto and Minnie. Joslyn had gotten a stuffed Pluto that day and was hauling him everywhere. After dinner, we did some shopping (new jammies for the kids) and hit the arcade where Jeremy showed off some serious gaming skills. We won a ton of tickets and traded them in for a ton of crap. Very fun.
Day 3 -We hit Hollywood Studios where the Muppets show was pretty fun. 3D. We had lunch of pizza and then saw a few sights. We also did the new Toy Story ride which involved shooting targets as you rode in your car. Again, Jeremy nailed this and we had a lot of fun on this ride.
That night we watched the fireworks from our window. We also saw the lighted Boat parade on the lake outside or hotel. Earlier, we had gone down to the beach and the pool. The kids loved the water slide and Juliet mastered coming down the slide herself and then swimming out of the slide's current to the side of the pool-unsassited, no life vest, pretty good for a 5 year old. I stood watch the whole time.
Overall, it was a wonderful time. We enjoyed being together and being at Disney. I can't say it was worth the money as I think you end up paying 3 times the price for all things Disney. But it is a place like no where else so they kinda have you cornered. I really wanted to go to one of their famous water parks but it was just too cold for that on this trip. I will make sure when we go again it is at a warmer time of year so we can spend time at a water park.
