Was Einstein a Marketer?

I came across this quote the other day by Einstein

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."

Now when I saw that I instantly interpreted it as "Any idiot can come up with new ideas, but it takes a genius to make something simple work" It made me immediately think of sites like plentyoffish.com which are incredibly simple both technically and graphically but the lead in their space. How many times has someone critisized your website telling you that you need better graphics or a more flashy interface. or whatever. Trust me there is no end to "know it all's" who have never done anything themselves. A lot of "guru's" come to mind. But what have they actually ever done? Are they speaking from their experience or from something they read in a guru e-book? There is a lot of advice going around... but not much that has experience behind it.
