WARNING BORING SPOILER ALERT

– If you haven’t seen the season 5 finale of lost yet do not read. Also if you don’t watch LOST or understand what an amazing show it is just stop now and go on your way OR start with season 1 and get caught up.

Now I am not going to recap the show cause …. you watched it… so I am just going to get to my theories.

Since last weeks amazing season 5 ending episode I have talked a lot with other LOST fanatics.

So at the beginning of the episode we see Jacob and a mysterious man in black talking. You see a ship coming in while they are talking … Is this ship the the Black Rock (which later lock and others used to get dynamite)??

Talking with Andy Liu he was telling me the buzz around buddyTV is that obviously this is a good vs evil guy in white vs guy in black play and I think he is right. I remembered something about Locke talking about white and black from the first season and dug up the video here:

Now later we know that the guy in black somehow possessed Lockes Body … It also occurred to me this must be how Christian Shepard is alive on the Island as he was brought back the same way??

Is Juliet really dead? I hope not =(. WHO DIDNT CRY WHEN SHE FELL ???. We don’t actually see the bomb go off we just see a white light very similar to when Desmond released the energy.

What Lies in the Shadow Of the statue? Well I guess the latin translation for what Richard Alpert said means “He who protects us” so perhaps that means the smoke monster? Or jacob? Or something else?

Did Sayid get a DUI lately!!!!! Come on he cant die! Thats my wife’s favorite character on the show.

So I wanna hear from you and your theories… what do you think ?

  1. There’s been quite the buzz on “LOST” around my friends as well. Here’s our current theories…some of which coincide with yours.

*Yes…we agree about the ship and the dynamite.

*Obviously with the huge statue that is now only a foot has something to relate to the “Egyptian” hiroglyphics (Sorry for murdering that word) from when Desmond and Locke didn’t put in the code after the 108 minute deal and the clock went back to the glyphics. Also..it somehow relates to the cloth that Jacob was making as well. Could it be somehow related to the “lost city of Atlantis”..we know not, but this has definitely been around since BC times. Maybe…Rhodes?

*Interesting how Jacob and Richard never age. Wondering…could this go back even further to “Cain and Abel”…with the whole black and white/good vs. evil? Is the island the lost “Garden of Eden” per se?

*The situation with Juliet…I’m not sure what will happen with her. I mean she was beating the heck out of the plutonium casing…but agreed with the whole “white light”. (And yes..I was in tears!!

Wish we didn’t have to wait a whole year to watch the series final season. I love my Wednesday nights with the gang on “LOST”!!!

  2. Looks like the vid is “private.” Would you mind sharing one that isn’t private?

    Thanks,
    -Guy

  4. Seeing the trailer for the 6th Season I believe they will be back on the present time but still in the island. Remember that Jacob told “They’re coming” while he was dying and Whitmore told that there was going to be a war soon. Probably the war between good and evil.

  5. Nice post @shoemoney. Wow you have an awesome list of your Commentators. Nice one

  6. […] My LOST Season 5 Finale Theories […]

  7. I think you have some interesting thoughts on this Jeremy. You have to consider however that, since this is Lost we are discussing, we are being led to perceive what might be the most logical explanation only to have the proverbial rug pulled out from under us.

Locke does seem to have become more dark this season but that may be just to throw us off the trail. Lucifer or Jesus, Wizard of Oz or not, I don’t think we’ll fully get this until the “reveal”.

  8. I haven’t seen the finale yet and this post spoiled me! hahaha.. my bad for reading it.. yay! 😀

  9. I’ve never watched LOST, What the hell is it about anyways?

    1. i think its about a bunch of people that crash their airplane into an insland by accident than they are hunted by cannibals that’s what one person told me

  10. I only started watching LOST a couple of weeks ago.

I kept hearing people talk about it. So since they were finishing up season 5, I went to the ABC website and have started watching from the very first show. I recently finished up season 1 and am now about 4 shows into season 2.

    It’s been incredible so far.

  11. I agree with the theory about the good and the evil. And I think that the big clue for the episode is the big statue, that must be Sobek, an Egyptian god.
I hope Juliet is not dead, but I care more about Sayid…
The problem now is how to wait for the next session 🙁

    1. The statue is, in fact, Sobek. The Egyptian god of light/life, etc., hence the closed cross, otherwise known as a Unk.

Anubis, who everyone thought the statue was for a while, is the Egyptian god of, yep, you guessed it, death. He and Sobek are enemies at war.

So are Jacob and the other dude incarnates of Sobek and Anubis? If so, they couldn’t be demi-gods like some are saying, because demi-gods can die as they are part human, making them mortal.

  12. Every Lost fan has to check out the easter eggs they put up on BuddyTV, it makes for an interesting diversion. It’s a lot of “here are the numbers again” but the still find a few fun eggs in there (like all of Kate’s flashbacks have Patsy Cline music playing in the background).

I’m thinking that the black vs. white thing are the gods playing a big game of chess/backgammon with the island as their board. They collect their pieces (Jacob has to touch each person he wants to use) and battle each other. In the finale, Locke’s doppleganger is controlled by black and he kills Jacob’s king, presumably with his own piece (Ben) out of free will…

    maybe that was the loophole?

It’s going ot be a long year!

    1. i never really saw the show lost but heard that after season 1 it gets boring

  13. I just watched the incident and I can’t wait for season 6! Now I know what the story is all about. Why the plane crashed, and why everything happened happened.

It’s all Jacob’s plan to fight against the Black Guy (not black actually, but the one wearing black that was unnamed in the finale)

My prediction here is.. everything will come back to normal and they will all arrive in Los Angeles safely. But a lot of things will happen and will be answered in the 6th season.

    I think the questions like:

Why did Jacob choose John Alpert as the adviser and gave him a gift of not aging?
Why did Jacob take away Claire? What happened to Claire?
Does Jacob has a plan for Aaron?
Is Christian, The Smoke Monster, Alex from Dead and Locke from Dead all the same?
Are the survivors of Flight 815 are Jacob’s ace against his Rival?
Are there more remaining survivors after Season 4?
Are we all crazy about this freakin lost TV series and we can’t wait for the season 6 to come?

    Because I am! I can’t wait. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

    1. I have to correct my mistake here. What I mean is Richard Alpert, not John Alpert.. Was confused with John and Richard. Hehe 🙂

  14. OK, I don’t have any theories, but I do love the show. Oh and, Shoe, I’m so glad you said, “Who didn’t cry when [Juliet] fell?” because I was in a puddle of tears (mostly because Sawyer was crying so good and I really can’t deal when men cry!)

Here’s what’s bugging me right now:

Where is Claire and is she ever coming back?

If Daniel’s mother is Elouise Hawking and his father is Charles Whidmore then why is his last name Farahday?

I know, there are much bigger things to be wondering about on LOST – like are we gonna have to wait until January or February again for the season premier? *Argh* The wait kills me!!

  15. I hadn’t considered that the bomb didn’t actually go off…good point comparing the flash to Desmond turning the key…now I have to come up with some new theories!

  16. I’ve never watched LOST. Well I have once but only once. I never see it on anywhere here.

  17. You didn’t get that the man in black at the beginning is the black smoke monster that has been showing up throughout the show for the past five years. It can take the form of any dead person (Locke, Jack’s Dad, Ben’s “daughter” etc.), and it likely what has been appearing to Hurley as dead people when he was in the mental institution.

Most likely the black smoke and Jacob are ancient beings or gods banished there at some point.

The cabin with the ash trail leading to it likely represent the method these two gods use to project themselves off island.

    1. That’s what I think also… The Man in Black can transform to any human figure and alien figure if he wants. He was an all powerful Rival of Jacob.

I think these two has equal powers. They just want to know who’s better among them in manipulating people’s love and convincing them to do something and let them think that that something that they want to do comes from the one who will do it, not the one who is manipulating it.

Just like Ben, he wants to think that what you do is what you want, not what he wants. That was Ben’s expertise. Hehe.

  18. I don’t know, I just can’t get into these types of shows. Time thieves is what they look more like. 🙂

    1. You should watch lost, it’s really worth it! 🙂 The story, the people, the acting, everything is just oh-so-awesome!

At first, I think I will not be addicted in this series. But after watching Season 1 Episode 1, I can’t wait to watch the next episode. As a results, I watched all of it from the first season up to the current season in 3 straight days! 🙂

That’s how addicted I am to Lost. 🙂

  19. i think it is about good and evil, black and white. it seems as though jacob is portrayed as a jesus or angel type character and locke being the bodily form used by the devil. ben took on the judas character which portrays greed and selfishness (what about me?) locke was used for bad as jack seems to be trying to fix things for the good. juliette martyred herself to save them all.

  20. How do you find time to watch all this including fights and go through all the blog comments and do everything else? 🙂

  21. […] My LOST Season 5 Finale Theories […]

  22. OK, just a few observations. The Egyptian imagery keeps showing up – not a coincidence. I don’t know much about the mythology but I’m pretty sure some of the answers lie there.

Juliet is dead, Sayid will return as will Locke. Juliet found some resolution with her life, she thinks Sawyer truly does love her. Sayid has no such resolution unless somehow next season starts with everyone landing safely in LA- not going to happen.

Locke died thinking he was a failure, not sure how but he will be back as himself not a doppleganger next year. He more than anyone needs to have a resolution before the island will let him move on.

Walt and Aaron will be key figures for unlocking the story. Not sure how but there is more to the Others stealing kids than just the fact that theirs all die. Is it some curse (loop hole) the man in black is exploiting? Perhaps the kids will help bring Jacob back to life.

For some reason I think Jack is going to be an annoying character next year. I don’t like how he flopped from man of science to man of faith and I think he’s going to be over the top next year.

Lepedis is going to be more important next year. He’ll deliver something very important. No idea what, just a feeling.

Damn I could go on and on with speculations. Bottom line, what an awesome show!

  23. Man i really love lost but it is going to end in 2010 tht is a bad news for me 🙁 hey shoe help me man to watch last season on a LED.

  24. Hmmmm…..I never got too deep into the Lost series. Thought about buying the seasons sense everybody say these are some great series to watch.

  25. Yeah it’s definitely a good vs. evil thing, and probably jacob and the other man are gods, the evil one can infiltrate dead persons to influence the living ones, like the dark god (maybe satan?) took the body of Ben’s daughter to convince Ben to do everything Lock asks him to do and the good one can heal people and prevent them from diying (the thing jacob did with Sayid, Lock, etc.) and they both cannot do anything on themselves just through humans.

Ok, weird theory, but I hope it makes a little bit sense 🙂

  26. First of all, i agree with the whole good vs evil theory. One guess is that the bomb eplosion, meaning the white light (semilar to the one when the characters were travelling through time-sound also the same) is going to place the ones stuck in the past in the present.
In addition, jacob is killed or is exiled off the island (thats why we see him at the flashbacks of his life) and all the time to come the island will be ruled by the other semi-god black dressed guy,one of whose abilitites is being the smoke moster. Also,at the time of his stubbing jacob says they re coming so a wild guess is that the ship coming with jacks father as a captain will cause aarwn’s birth and all the things that happened eventually. Therefore, on the years to follow jacob will need richard quitely keeping an eye on things,a task extremely critical;therefore the non-aging part.
Finally, returning to the present, where everyone will be united again, the characters will somehow ( of course without them knowing-only at the last minute will they grasp what’s at stake) cause jacob’s “resurrection” (something with aarwn perhaps-were at the other side wault trying to stop him) and the final battle will define everything.

  27. First of all, i agree with the whole good vs evil theory. One guess is that the bomb eplosion, meaning the white light (similar to the one when the characters were travelling through time -sound also the same) is going to place the ones stuck in the past to the present.

  28. Does anyone else think the numbers they were entering on the computer (Hurley’s winning lottery numbers) were coordinates of some kind that kept the island from moving from it’s location (in time)?

  29. That’s what I think also… The Man in Black can transform to any human figure and alien figure if he wants. He was an all powerful Rival of Jacob.
such a really good information for me.i am really impress.

  30. […] My LOST Season 5 Finale Theories (shoemoney.com) […]

  31. SPOILER ALERT.

    I totally cried.

    I read this whole thread.

And if the white light was the time travel, how did Jack wake up in the hotel room in the Season Six Ep 1 preview. (Saw it on YouTube. Right actor, but could be part of a flash forward/back, who knows.)

    1. That first preview thing on youtube is fake. That was footage of the same actor in a different tv show. Annoying people do that to throw people off.

  32. It’s just a ponderance, but during the last episode… jacob visits each of the returning member of 815 other than kate…….
kate asked jack never to ask her what she did with aaron…. and later eveals she did this so that aaron could be back with his mother….
maybe early next season we will see jacob going back to visit kate…. and i believe that she bought aaron back to the island… OR gave him to jacob…..
    What you guys think?

    1. yeh i realise we did see a clip with kate.. but all of the other were at a point after they had left the island.. hers was when she was a kid

      1. Locke didn’t fallout of the window after leaving the island, that was before, why else would he of been in a wheelchair? His Dad pushed him out the window long before he went to the island. And Jack was working with his dad when jacob came to him so this was before the island also as jack was taking his dad’s body home when the plane first crashed.

  33. I know this much… I will miss Juliet’s cleavage if she is off the show. That pair, and the “bang me” face she is always making (when i look up from the pair) will be missed and I hope they are not LOST!

  34. lol boring spoiler alert. Even if you told me everything that has happened, happening, and will happen I’m still pretty sure that I would be totally confused and Lost.

  35. Maybe Jacob is the Bible Jacob, and his brother is Esau. Maybe they were both isolated on the Island. Just a thought.

    1. I like that theory, the man in black COULD be Esau. Given the biblical story of the rival between the brothers (how Jacob stole Esau’s birthright and his father’s blessing) it fits well. Especially since Esau vowed to kill Jacob after their father died. Jacob later sent several sons to Egypt and he spent his final years in Egypt. This all blends well with all of the Egyptian imagery.

  36. I cant believe you guys!! That John Locke doppelganger was Charles Whitmore!! Banished from the island forever, he wanted revenge.

Didnt you hear Jacob say to him ‘you found a loophole then’? Whitmore didnt feature in that 2 hour finale at all, why not??? Cause he was there the whole time!! JOHN LOCKE IS WHITMORE REINCARNATE!!

Think about what Jacob said to Locke, ‘you found a loophole’.

Whitmore wants to get back to the island, banished by Jacob many moons ago.

Locke uses the words ‘If only you knew what I had to go through to get here’

Whitmore is back on the island, he made Ben kill Jacob.

However I doubt Jacob is dead. Your theory about the black mist being the guy in black at the start holds up well after speaking to the monster (ben) and him telling him to obey Locke, but think about it…… Locke didnt know where Jacob lived, he was genuinely surprised when he saw the foot. That guy was sitting right outside the big statue at the start, of course the guy in black knew where he lived!

    1. Hmmm, that’s an interesting theory, but how does Charles Whidmore suddenly have the kind of power to posses people? And if he has that kind of power – why does he allow himself to age?

But don’t forget that the mysterious guy in black at the beginning asked Jacob, “Do you know how much I want to kill you?” and Jacob replied, “Yes.” That implies there was something that was keeping him from actually being able to kill Jacob. Perhaps his taking on the form of the island leader (Locke) provided him the ability finally kill Jacob.

      1. Lock didn’t kill Jacob he just convinced Ben to do the job (they act through humans)

  38. I am sure this will be truly amazing lost season Shoe. I am having difficulties viewing video what’s wrong can you tell me ??

  39. don’t you think that Jacob, in his infinite wisdom, would know not to stand so close to Ben while he was holding that huge knife? and why would he obviously provoke him with the statement “what about you?” when Ben finished with his pleading on and on about his loyalty to Jacob?

Don’t you think Jacob knew something about said loophole that maybe his rival didn’t?

  40. I think Claire was tricked by the “black smoke” in the form of her father Christian. She is representative of the Virgin Mary, and her son is a miracle baby, the only one born on the island in years. They never showed her prior Jacob visit, and my guess is it was a one night stand with none other than Jacob himself. With Jacobs death, Arron will return and represent the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Island once was the garden of Eden. Even if the ties to religion are bogus, the story could still fit.

I think they are mixing and matching from all the ancient beliefs and early religions. I love the ties to Egyptian Mythology and the idea that the island might indeed be Atlantis. Honestly, the writers for this show are truly genius.

  41. ok im forcertain about light verses dark. i think that the bible theory is cool but i highly doubt they would put that in a tv series. i think the bomb was the fail safe of the hatch because it was the only thing that can negate the energy and the fail safe on the hatch was something that definitly blew up the hatch and desmond had no idea what the fail safe actually was. i just wanted to add that theory to it all. theyre coming. well john looked worried in his eyes so i think it was an issue for both jacob and the man in black. i think it might be another influence other than jacob and the man in the black. like an old enemy of them both. idk im just throwing ideas into the pit.

  42. It’s interesting that Jacob gave something to each person that he met while not on
the island. Hurley – the guitar, Jim/Sawyer – the pen, Locke – life, Sayid – ermm sorrow?? (that one’s got me) Kate – lunch box.
But why did he go to meet all of these people? It seems to me that Jacob chose all of
these people to go to the island. Why, I do not know.
If this is the case, then Daniel’s theory that the bomb would negate the energy from
the Swan incident, is wrong, as they were ‘chosen’ to go there anyway, so stopping the realease of the energy would be pointless.
Unless Jacob also ‘chose’ Daniel. Did Jacob choose all of the others? And what about
the Darma Iniciative, did he chose them too?
Why don’t either Jacob or Richard age? What happened to the statue?
I still find it interesting about the numbers and Hurley’s ‘luck’.
    So many questions!!!

    1. After reading your questions I fell I am still ages away from where you are because we are still at season-3.Seems that the watch is going to be interesting

  43. Season 5 has left us with many questions to ponder upon until we are left perplexed once again after season 6…

One idea I have read into is the idea of good and evil and also the idea of the whole island being some sort of Backgammon game…

After all, on a backgammon “doubling dice” (which keeps track of the stakes of the game)… there are 6 numbers “2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64… although these numbers aren’t the “Lost” numbers (4,8,15,16,23,42) perhaps there is some significance here?

As for the idea of “they’re coming”… my only guess is that is the original survivors coming back from the present (similar to the idea of Jack’s father and Arron returning…) to sort the island out once and for all…however, i doubt they’d return, YET AGAIN, to the island…so perhaps that idea is out of the window…

    Perhaps one must ponder more…

(Ps. why IS Daniel Faraday’s last name Faraday? perhaps an anagram?)

  44. I just signed up to your course. An email of Yaro brought me to this website. I didn`t know before about you. I will see, if you really teach me something over the next 12 weeks.
On my part I am willing to work hard to improve my christian blog.

I see internet marketing as an opportunity to earn money for my ministry in Berlin. I never was very enthousistic about donations.

Much more I would like the idea to somehow initiate an opportunity for my future affiliates to earn money themselves. The whole religious system upside down. Instead of asking for donation, they can get some money.

This is a part of my vision. I hope to learn enough during the next weeks from you

  45. Who are those new other people, who carried around Locke’s body, they said there the good guys.

    1. They are the people of Jacob. Jacob sent them there that’s why their plane was crashed in the Island.

  46. Good to see that you are a viewer of LOST. In our country we are still at season-3 so I am still unaware of the happenings of season 3 completely. After reading this post of yours it seem that season 4 will be intreseting.

  47. Jane – Jacob didnt give something to each of them. he TOUCHED each of them. Kate Sawyer Jack Jin Sun and Hurley were all touched on their bodies (hands, shoulder, arms, or chest) by the biblical Jacob. the man who swore to kill him, and in a way did, is his brother, Esau. they were twins, the sons of Isaac and grandsons of Abraham, the first monotheist. Jacob went on to be blessed by his father and by god, and Esau for stealing this “birthright” vowed to kil him. Jacob fled to egypt and eventually had 12 childen…12 boys and a girl. they would eventually return to Israel where each of Jacobs 12 sons would found 1 of the 12 tribes of israel. interestingly….Jacobs 12th son, and his favrite, was named “Benjamin.” on hsi deathbed Jacob said of Benjamin something like “he is a wolve that prowls during the day and feasts on his spoils in the evening.”

    1. You know what? This ALL connects!!!

In the Bible it is said that Benjamins mother Rachel died right after the birth to benjamin…..

Guess what? Benjamin Linus’ Mother died in the forest right after his birth before the goodspeeds could get there!

  48. FT Head – im not sure Lepidis will have a key role next season. i dont believe he will end up being the “candidate” needed…i believe it will be jack. perhaps for the re-incarnation of jacob? or someone else. when richard alpert visited john locke as a boy showing him items that had belonged to a man who was dead….he was clearly looking for the re-incarnation of a very important man to jacob. claire will absolutely be back and why walt is special should be addressed, as well as why aaron is so important (keeping in mind in the bible aaron was the grandson of jacob….who was of course twin brother to esau the man in black, son of isaac, and grandson of abraham.

  49. rizzo those “new guys” you asked about were requested by jacob, who are at his service to help him accomplish what he needs. what exactly that is we dont yet know…but im considering it a slight possibility “bram” the guy with ilana isnt “one of the good guys” but a traitor….as the origon of the name “bram” means “thorn of the enemy.” that cant be a coincidence knowing the lost writers and producers.

  50. I have read into is the idea of good and evil and also the idea of the whole island being some sort of Backgammon game…

  51. I’m re-watching LOST from the start right now. In Walkabout, Locke has his first encounter with the smoke monster. Jack is following his spectre father. Throughout the sequence that carries over into White Rabbit, there are a number of times when Christian disappears and Locke appears, very much in the same manner as when Ben was judged by the monster in season 5.

We know now that Locke had been impersonated during season 5, but what if he has been impersonated a number of times more than that? Is it possible that Mr.Black has been Locke on and off again throughout the entire series?

The producers keep saying that once the show is over, we’ll know it had been planned fro the start. Most people attribute Adam and Eve as the strongest proof of it, but I’m beginning to belive that the proff will be established through flashbacks of Mr.Black as John Locke in season 1-4.

  52. I had to wait for 5 weeks before the final episode of season 5 finally aired here in Finland before I could come here and read the post and comments 🙂

Good and evil, white and black, two sides. Check, very clear. The Jakob and Esau history fit nicely into the story.

One thing is sure, all the characters we’ve seen in Lost will be somehow back again in season 6. Them bomb exploding and the bright, white light “reset” things, whether it’d be the plane landing safely to LAX or re-crashing to the island, the people who have died, or gone missing, will be back.

It’ll be very interesting to see how they go about the season 6, and what will happen in the end. Another things that’s for certain – the last season won’t answer all the questions, there will be plenty of room for speculation and theories, just like now 🙂

  53. good point comparing the flash to Desmond turning the key…now I have to come up with some new theories!

  54. “Though I walk in the shadow of the valley of the SHADOW OF DEATH… I fear no evil, for thou art with me. Your ROD and staff they comfort me.”

    1. What lies in the shadow of the statue? — Richard answers ille qui nos ominis servabit – “He who will save us all.” Parallels “shadow of death” in Psalm 23 because the statue represents death, which is of course the first step to everlasting life (represented by the ankh that Tawaret is holding). The ankh is the rod that comforts even in the shadow of death.

Jacob represents the god of free will — like the Christian god in Presbyterianism for instance — that created mankind, and did not force them to follow him. The bible has many verses about this, including the one in Hebrews 11:1 about faith being hope in things unseen. Faith, after all, is what shields us from harm: In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. – Ephesians 6:16 (NIV) Remember flaming arrows in a previous episode? They were shot by the Others.

Who are the Others? Perhaps they are the Pharisees, or the Ephesians… who persecuted others but did not truly have faith. They were all about appearance, and quoting scripture, but later in the New Testament, when faith became the emphasis — as Jesus criticized religious authorities and Paul converted from a Pharisee to a “true” follower.

The black smoke represents either Satan or the antichrist — the deceiver. I’ve heard over and over again throughout my life, preachers giving sermons about that specific point: that the devil’s greatest weapon is deception, because the devil (like God) cannot force people to choose. Humans make their own decisions, but the devil is good at coercing people through temptations, always through deception and slandering. In fact, in the Bible’s Gospels of Matthew and Luke, the devil is referred to as “diabolos” — meaning slanderer literally. Smoke, as in “smoke and mirrors” or “blowing smoke” is a common reference to lies and trickery — black smoke being another extension of this persona.

Jacob is fishing in the ocean, something Jesus did — and many references of fish are made in the bible. In fact, the fish symbol is based on the Greek word, ichthus, which means “fish” and is an acronym for “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.”

When Jacob and the stranger speak, notice how Jacob says there is only one end. Predetermination, Calvinism, etc. — the fine balance of faith-based religion and God’s mighty will. The coexistence of free will and predetermined “fates.” Jacob weaves a loom (fate), but also speaks of free will. In his brushes with the character, many of the interactions are mere nudges or “pushes” as he says to Jack.

If the stranger is truly the Antichrist, there needs to be references to the second coming of Christ, and a rapture. This requires a look, then, at timelines in Lost. The plane crash represents a turning point, in which humanity begins to turn. The passengers of flight 815 are us — general mankind — each of the main characters representing different types of people/backgrounds/lives. The crash may be the Rapture, when
believers who are “alive and remain shall be caught up together…in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air” (I Thessalonians 4:16-17). This is the time of the resurrection, where each Christian receives his or her resurrected body. First to receive their new bodies are those who have died as Christians, and then, those who are “alive and remain.”

The tribulation is a seven-year period that immediately precedes the return of Christ and the establishment of His millennial kingdom, which lasts for 1,000 years. The first 3 ½ years of the tribulation will be a time of peace and cooperation, and the second 3 ½ years of the tribulation will be a time of war and catastrophe.

Didn’t the Others and Dharma have peace and cooperation for about 3 years? When season 5 ended, it seemed almost as if we were at that halfway mark.

At the midpoint of the tribulation, the Antichrist will proclaim himself god and require worship from all people of the world. Many will bow down and worship the Antichrist, including taking his mark of worldwide registration. Some will refuse to worship the Antichrist and receive his mark, and many will be killed for this act of disobedience. The second half of the tribulation is referred to as the “Great Tribulation.” There will be extraordinary catastrophes all over the world during this period. (For scriptural support, see Revelation 3:10, Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 17).

So, the main debate on the Rapture is not what it is, but when it will occur in relation to the tribulation. In summary, the pre-tribulation view is that the rapture will happen before the tribulation period; the mid-tribulationview is that the rapture will occur half-way through the tribulation period; and the post-tribulation view is that the rapture will occur at the end of the tribulation period.

The early Dharma days, 1970s, are the days when modern society began to take over the religious times of the past — presumably Biblical years which are represented by the earlier island times in the 40s and 50s.

The only way God can be killed is if people stop believing in him, or so goes some existential thought. The loophole that the stranger/smoke thought he found is by having convinced the epitome of followers, Ben, to turn against God. Again, this questions free will vs. predeterminism when Ben anguishes to Jacob about why he wasn’t good enough to be granted audience. Is it a reference to the “chosen people” and the predetermined selection of people of who will be saved? Free will and fate are intertwined here as Jacob firmly uses “Ben’s choice” to almost make it seem like there was no other option but to have him attack.

God knew. Jacob knew. Of course he did — that’s why he told the stranger in the beginning, “When you do [kill me], oh I’ll be there.”

God is dead. Existential thought might argue that God had already “died” long before that, as Alana said when they had gotten to his house. Like the grey eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, staring over the ashheaps and wastelands in the Great Gatsby, at some point in time — God had been reduced to a billboard sign, looking down on a morally bankrupt land of ashes. There was a valley of ashes around the burned cabin where Jacob once resided.

That brings me to even question whether that was truly Jacob in that temple. Perhaps that… was the Antichrist. The Great Tribulation, if it were to occur, would establish season 6.

  55. hey guys , i noticed something important i guess, do you remember that desmond had to push the botton every 108 seconds..
and 4+8+15+16+23+42=108……..wierd isn’t it??? does this make any sence????

  56. I know i could be wrong, but I think the nuke does go off. Desmond wheres the radiation suite and always says its unsafe to go out of the hatch due to the radiation.

  57. For some reason I think Jack is going to be an annoying character next year. I don’t like how he flopped from man of science to man of faith and I think he’s going to be over the top next year.

  58. We know now that Locke had been impersonated during season 5, but what if he has been impersonated a number of times more than that? Is it possible that Mr.Black has been Locke on and off again throughout the entire series?
