EntrecardA few people have noticed I have been running Entrecard on the sidebar above where the store ad is. I stopped by the Entrecard booth at the Blogworld expo and talked with Entrecard CEO Graham Langdon about his product. He briefly summarized it for me and I thought it was a pretty cool concept. Plus honestly I think its just cool that he is doing something. So many people talk about doing stuff but never actually do it… anyway I told him I wanted to write about it but I was going to be a user of the service for a few days first. I just don’t like to talk about something I have never actually used. I think that kind of sets yourself up to look like a jackass.

Its also search engine safe as it is pure javascript. (no worry about nofollow crap)

I asked him if he would go on video and explain what Entrecard is. He went with it and I think did a good job just off the cuff:

Here is a screenshot from my dashboard page. It shows me what people have dropped off there card(s) and asks me if I want to approve them.

Here is a screen shoot of my statistics page. Even though there is not many people in the network yet I have already earned a bunch of credits to drop my Entrecard on other sites.

As said in the video the whole system works off of a credit system. The cost for someone else to advertise their 125 on your widget is equal to the number of cards you receive each day, through the widget.
So, its a way for the little guys to do a whole lot of networking, earn enough credits, and then buy a spot from you in free credits instead of dollars.

Graham also told me there is some great stuff in the pipeline for Entrecard.

I think Entrecard is on to something… I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. I will run it for a bit and see how it goes. I hope it catches on a bit. Just remember it just went into beta stages so there will be some bugs (although its been very smooth for me so far)

  1. Same old stuff, different bucket.

Whats new Shoe.. anything really cutting edge at this expo ?? (being in Oz, but someone who runs the odd blog or 10, I’d like to hear something new – that adds value – anything particularly new ?)

    Cheers 🙂

  2. There are so many things like this I never know what’s worth spending time on. If this had shown up first it would be a great idea, but it has come after so many similar products.
I do hope they make it though. I’m always for the small entrepreneur. If they can find a way to stand out among the rest or do something better – way better – then they’ll have a shot.

  3. Woah.. edit that !

Dude I just read your preceeding post – now THATs advice I agree with. Damned if you didn’t hit the nail on the head – celebrate your weaknesses (which you’ve done openly) – I say, give the brand personality, context, and put a human behind it..

Which reminds me of my one and only weakness – I STILL cant lay my hands on a Shoe T !!

    How DO I get one ?? 🙂

  4. wow he sounds like he memorised his whole speech, hmm the concept is interesting! almost like a fish bowl at a restaurant – but Graham sounded like he lietrally went word for word off his own card or something

  5. Entrecard is awesome!! This is the first of its kind. It’s almost like blogrush… for 125×125 ads.

I’m willing to bet this becomes the de facto business card for bloggers. And the video on the homepage is awesome!

  6. do I understand correctly that I can buy that 125 ad space on your blog for free using their credits?

  7. No, this is an awesome advertising space! You can get free credits and advertise for free!

  8. He sure is going fast, first Million Dollar Wiki and now Entrecard. I like the concept and like you said Jeremy, it should be able to help us ” little guys ” get more exposure without having to dig in deep into our pockets.

Keep us posted on this and let us know how everything is going. Will wait for a while before I try it out

  9. Impressed the guy did a fairly precise 30-second elevator pitch. If you can’t say it in 30-seconds or less to someone, it’s a loser.

  10. I noticed this on the blog early on and joined right away. I like the system so far. I think it could use an automated step to accept advertisement on my blog. It would be great if a blogger wants to advertise on my blog, I’d like to let them in right away. .

  11. Interesting. It’s a bit like Bla.st, but with the whole credit system. I will probably give it a shot later today.

  12. I just wrote a post about this last night to be posted on Thursday. I’ve been using Entrecard for a few days now… I’m impressed.

  13. That was an absolute mini speech. Short and sweet. The card is an interesting concept. Lets see how it pans out.

  14. ack i wish i would have seen your comment before just submitting another. it does look a lot like bla.st, but focused on the individual instead of people/product/service that you can promote with bla.st

  15. I just created it and put it up on my blog. but I dont see any option to drop off a card either on your entrecard or on mine. How do you drop a card, I went and looked at the help section and it says ” click the drop off your card” but i dont see anything that says so

  16. i don’t see the widget on your blog? but click “drop yours” on shoemoney’s widget to leave him your card

  17. That is very true. Usually we do 2-3 takes when I ask someone to tell me about their product but he was good to go first take

  18. i took it off now. Its weird but I dont see ” drop yours” on Shoe’s widget that he has on the sidebar

  19. So a more professional-networking-centric blogrush, eh?

I like it… but I dont. *tries it*

  20. its more like blogrush for 125×125 ads…
plus you can sell your credits for money…
and choose which blogs you want to run your ad on

  21. I haven’t checked out Entrecard yet, but I wore their t-shirt last night when I was going to sleep and I still remember the booth girl with those blue-green eyes . . .

  23. I’ll hafta give this a try. Btw, what tool are you using to edit the screen shots, if ya don’t mind me askin? That’s a good looking font.

  24. Hey! My blog is on your statistics page and my picture is on your dashboard 🙂

Yea, Entrecard is currently slow…but it’s slowly picking up. I have dropped cards, but there haven’t been clicks to my site yet.

  25. this concept sounds REALLY interesting in all aspects of blogging from networking to advertising. Great find and that guy REALLY did a good job on doing the elevator pitch. Considered me impressed

  26. I wonder what’s in it for Entrecard, if it’s one for one there is now inventory left over for ads.

  27. I am also registered with Entrecard and I think the concept is really awesome.
    Great new opportunities for bloggers!

  28. Looks pretty useful, I just hope people dont spam this like they do mybloglog and pretty much everything else.

  34. Wonderful concept:) I signed up for it recently n am loving it! simple n get free publicity as well!

  39. I wasn’t a big fan of his MillionDollarWiki as I felt like it was too high of a price to charge for a simple page, but this idea seems a bit more smoother. I’ll definitely try it out and see how good it really is. Don’t forget to post results from your trying the software.

  40. Yes, another widget with cookies tracking your movement from blog to blog. 2007 blog scene, specially the involving sites that relate to making money, resemble 1998’s porno web site scene. But this time we have ajax, shiny Web 2.0 graphics and desgin, and videos. But the buzz, impression exchange that ultimately benefits the large site, promotion by large sites and all the smaller ones falling for it with a hope to hit it big.

By the way, how does it work? I drop my card in 1,000 blogs and than I can advertise on how many blogs, for how long, etc., etc.

  41. just signup. will try for a while. the help on the site does not have enough enough of how it works. seems just like another banner exchange service. when i click drop one multiple times, it said drop 1 per day, does that means i can to drop every day?

  42. If I could figure out a way to target a certain area (say…my nearest metro city…) with these cards it could be a local networking goldmine. As it is I have cards from goodness goes where going on my blog. Not a big deal…but…I just think there is so much power in geotargeting. Regardless, I’m working with the system and enjoying it immensely!

  43. After using it for a few days, its more being used for the advertising and less for the networking so far.

  44. Great system… Although, we are all early adopters! The more mainstream this goes, obviously, the better it can be especially for local networking. I certainly hope it goes beyond the novelty phase.

  46. Same thing happened to me … something fishy about blogrush authorisation – seems to be more to it than the publicised criteria.

  47. @Jennifer
How did you guess our next addition to Entrecard? We are developing geo-targetting networking features that will allow you to connect and communicate with people in your area.
