In case you haven’t heard by now, around 11:00 yesterday someone hacked Burger King’s twitter account. Changing their account name to McDonalds as well as their picture icon and bio information. You can read more about it here. chi-burger-king-twitter-hack-20130218Now I am assuming the people at Burger King a FREAKING OUT about this. Especially considering there was some vulgarity involved. However, I think you can defiantly look that this from a positive stand point:

  1. The first time I heard about it was because a friend of mine retweeted the account and I notice that the account name was McDonalds however it was the @BurgerKing account. 
  2. Because of instances like the one I just mentioned last I heard the gained 30,000 followers.
  3. McDonalds even game them some sympathy off their twitter account.
  4. It put Burger King in the back of my mind the rest of the day yesterday

  1. Unless you’re mistaken to be somone who is hated by others – and you get your house windows smashed or death threats.

    I’d say most publicity is good publicity – but good publicity is the best publicity.

  2. If this was a gimmick they’ll have to watch it in the future.

    People will start to catch on to their stunts if they keep it up.

    I wonder how they are explaining this? A twitter hack or what?

  3. BK will get more business from this I personally thrive from negative press about me. BK will have my business over the next couple weeks really like the upgrades they have done to the in store menus and items they carry!

  4. The question is how many ppl went to BurgerKing to check out if it really had been bought by McDonalds?

  5. All publicity is good publicity if you know how to manage it. There are examples where bad press really tanked a company, but being able to manage a PR disaster (real or fake/constructed) can be a powerful tool. BP spent over $3.5 million on Adwords after the oil spill and they’re still in business.

  6. At first I honestly thought this was a stunt by Burger King.. until I saw the rap video.. nuh uh, no way.

  7. I had heard about a bunch of twitter passwords that were compromised a couple weeks back. I wonder if they were one of them.

  8. Haha that is too funny. I think that this could damage mc Donald’s honestly because they will look like cheaters and so forth

  9. Wow I cannot believe the caption on the picture that is horrible I bet this is bad news for mc Donald’s. seems rather racist and harsh to their competitor

    in it or something. I believe that you simply could do with a
    few % to pressure the message home a little bit, but instead of that, that is fantastic blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.
