12 seconds

New site called 12 Seconds just started and my friend Big Dave sent me a invite to the beta. I might have a bunch of beta invites soon… I will keep you posted.

The service is pretty simple… record 12 seconds of video. Its like the twitter of video. Its pretty sweet but a little intimidating!

  1. Shoe speaking of your tools I signed up yesterday and scored a domain with 85 .edu links and 12 .mil links and today it had over 800 pages indexed. I will be spending a lot of money in shoemoney tools for sure!

  2. Glad you like it. Just remember its in beta and will have some bugs but we have a lot of new features coming.

  3. Why have you not done a post on shoemoney tools? are you trying to keep it on the low?

  4. I actually did do a preview post a while back… I am trying to keep it on the low so we can properly judge scale but we have had no issues with scaling so far with all the people currently subscribing.

  5. i took quick a look at your tool video. Can you buy these domains, then direct them to your original url?

  6. Super-cool and I have been waiting for the true Youtube/Twitter mashup. I thought it might be Seesmic — and I love the community-vibe there — but I just don’t have time to follow threads full of 5 minute videos.

Would love to check it out.

  7. I’ll create a site called 10seconds and then another one called 5seconds and so on.

  8. Too late , the idea is taken 🙂 , think of something new now dont do like other people

  9. hahah i am waiting for shoe’s reply too 🙂

Can we make money with this Shoe?

Oh and btw, have a nice Pagerank Update guys 🙂

    This is so exciting!

  10. What a great concept! I am surprised someone hasn’t thought of this before now.

  11. Interesting. Could be used for one’s elevator pitch if you can get it short enough.

  12. 12 seconds… hopefully no one uses it “inappropriately “because well we all know – some people only need 12 seconds. 🙂

  13. that doesn’t sound too bad… it would be interesting to see what you do with it.

  14. I like the way they decided that 12 seconds was the ideal time:

“Because anything longer is boring. The scientists here at the 12seconds dodecaplex have conducted countless hours of research to determine the precise amount of time it takes for boredom or apathy to set in during typical Internet video viewing. Our patent pending Electro-Tear-Duct Prongers have determined that exactly 12 seconds of video is the ideal amount of time to keep anything interesting.”

And you know what? I reckon they have got it spot on!

  15. Looks like he had to watch the clock. Definitely need to be a fast talker to deliver your message.

  16. 12 seconds seems like a cool idea. Can’t see it being of the same magnitude of what twitter was though

  17. great concept but not enough time for the average user to say what they need to, it would have to be broken up into multiple video posts

  18. 20seconds.com was probably taken already, as was 15seconds.com, heck even 99seconds.com is taken.

If anyone is interested 115seconds.com is available lol

  19. I’m not sure. I actually like this concept better than the twitter idea. Video is more personal. It does take a bit more time to create and upload the video, but I think this could work if the same people that hyped up twitter, hype this up. With Jeremy posting about it, it just got a big boost.

  20. Sorry, but 12 seconds is just too short for video. 30 seconds would be the minimum. I see where you’re going… 140 characters (twitter) … 12 seconds… but it’s just short, period.

    T.

  21. Interesting concept, but I’d have done at least double the seconds (24seconds).

  22. Now this is innovative but I agree with Anty and Wesley, 12 seconds is too short. At least 25 would have been better.

  23. You are not supposed to give a lecture , it’s like twitter only few sentences … that’s the idea .

if he made it longer it would just be like youtube …

  24. Sounds cool, but creating 12 seconds of video seems like a little too much work for this to catch on like twitter… who knows though.

  25. I don’t really feel comfortable making videos lol. Plus it will kill the bandwith for a lot of people. Twitter is easier.

  26. I could see this being a bigger idea more in the future as “mobile video” is more common. So, like, someone on their iphone taking and sending quick video updates rather than texting their tweets.

That and it could be the start of 12 second pron lol.

  27. probably the reason for 12 seconds…bandwidth would be much lighter than longer vids obviously. Though don’t know if that was a consideration in the name idea…probably more trying to be “unique” than worried about bandwidth.

  28. Sweet… Now the 15 seconds of video I can record on my cell phone is actually useful for something. Also, like the idea of short. Who can spare a whole minute to watch an online video anyway?

  29. Porn is about the only thing you can effectively show in 12 seconds… 😉

I agree with everyone else. It should be 30 seconds.

  30. Seems like a cool idea but how time consuming is it to edit the clips, does it take more time to edit/compress/upload the clip than its worth for 12 seconds of video? Or is the process user-friendly and automated so all I have to do is fire up the webcam and click a button?

  31. Like this concept a lot. If you do one every day as an update / hello, it makes you get right to the point then cuts you off! Wasting neither your time or others time!

  32. I think it depends on what you’re trying to do. If you just make a short video with only video (as shoe did above), then you click record, start talking, and click stop / (or you’re cut off when 12 seconds is done?). Perhaps if you want to put some text in the video it would be a little more complex.

I’d love to try it out soon!

  33. i guess i could just stand there and promote one of my lander’s or websites lol

  34. I missed it as well, heard about it off-line from a friend. If its PPC tools I am really interested.

  35. […] wrote a bout a new service last week called 12 seconds which allows you to record only 12 seconds of a video. The site also has some nice networking […]
