Here is my presentation from NYC. Unlike Chicago this is about the 6th time I have done public speaking and I felt a lot more comfortable. Still a lot of room for improvement

I did receive written permission to record the session and publish it on my blog or use it for other “non commercial” use.

Evil Green Monkey Did a live writeup of the session over at seroundtable.

  1. The presentation was good and the conference was informative.

Several references were made to using Heatmaps for Ad placement.

Could you do a future post on Heatmaps and how to get access to this technology?

    Thanx

  3. Actually part of the agreement of me being able to post the video is that I would not post the slides. Also my slides are really boring and would make no sense. They are just funny pictures for the most part.

  4. I was there with my wife. I was throwing up East Coast gang signs to Shoe but he must not have seen me. Trust me everything important was in the talk not in the presentation. Very inspiring Jeremy! I would have introduced myself but I was nursing a hangover.

  5. Great speech, I especially appreciated the part about BearShare’s grey area… got me thinking.. in the grey 🙂

    Thanks.

  6. +1

    Great presentation.

But we need to get you to stand closer to the microphone 😉

  7. I’m sure the SES guys wouldn’t like to hear you say that – presumably the reason they wanted to limit what you released was so that people would want to come along to the events to get what they missed out on! 😛

So far, I think the bus trip is the big thing we missed out on 😉

  8. Haha I like the AdSense and YPN comparison 🙂

I really hope YPN starts getting their stuff together and figures out how to target ads finally!

  9. Nice presentation. I like how you have made an agreement with them to be able to post stuff like this on your blog.

  10. Shoe,

Great presentation. Just by chance do you have those sites you were mentioning? Or are you not allowed to give those out?

  11. […] Jennifer Slegg, Jeremy’s presentation was mainly centered around his personal experiences on making money with contextual ad programs like Adsense and Yahoo Publisher […]

  12. I really enjoyed your presentation. I agree, seeing the slides would have been good for your jokes, but it was a fun presentation as it was anyway.

  13. Great one Shoe, your presentation skills are pretty good actually, you certainly delivered the message.

  14. I can assure you , in most time when you give a presentation you dont see anyone in front of you .

you are in another world lol

Its sooo hard (especially for beginners)

  15. I thought you did a great job… seemed genuinely friendly and open to helping us out.

now if we could just get you to sit that same camera in every session next year, we’d be able to skip the thousand dollar or so entrance fee and watch the conference at home.

  16. Excellent presentation. I have to applaud you on holding Yahoo accountable for their targeting problems. I’ve had major problems as an advertiser in the past with Yahoo ads running on sites that didn’t even contain my target keywords. I’m talking top 5 bid short tail targeted life insurance ads being run on myspace layout sites. I really hope that a serious dialog about this problem opens up soon.

  17. Gret reentatin Shoe! I always get so many new deas whenever I have teportuniy to listen to you speak. Tnks for making he effort to get peission to tape and bradcast this.

  18. Those kind of things come with time an experience. Something tells me that Shoe will have plenty of speaking opportunities in the future!

  19. They have to leave some reason for people to attend the confrence. These things are not cheap to put on and they need make money on the deal too.

  20. They are going to need someting BETTER than what Googe has if they hope to compete. Simply matching Google is not enough at this point.

  21. Shoe got me turned on to heat maps from a previous talk he gave. I am still new at it, but it is really interesting to see what people click on. It hasn’t been so useful for the main part of the content area of my blog, but is is AWESOME for tracking where people are clicking on the sidebar.

  22. Thanks got putting this video out so quickly and getting permission to video it in the first place, this is awesome!

  23. Very interesting. I had some problems to understand it all but I think I understood the major part of your relation. Thanks.

  24. Shoe, great video.
Your speaking skillz are getting better by leaps and bounds. I imagine in another 6 months or so people will think you have been doing it for years.

Keep up the good work, great info.

  25. Ya I’m horrible with public speaking, Shoe looked a bit nervous at the start but it was a very easy to watch presentation.

  26. I could hear him just fine? I wish we could see the slides but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

  27. I would love to go but the cost is just so high it’s just kind of hard to justify, I make a good side income on the web but not enough to fly out to New York for a few days.

  28. They charge a good buck for attendance, I keep wanting to go but its like $1000 + travel costs..

  29. I’m looking for more info on heat maps to, I don’t suppose you could comment with some sources?

  30. Jeremy your track was by far one of my favorite sessions! Even if we were a little hung over from Alan’s party the night before 😛

  31. I was present. It was really an eye-opener, and I applaud Shoemoney taking the Y to task for their blotchy ad serving.
Great meeting you in person as well Shoe!

  32. damn, you started up really fast, I guess it was the adrenaline pumping there 😀

    Anyway cool speach man 😀

  33. ow and by the way could you release or post the presentation sheet aswell? I mean I want to see the images and slides as well!

  35. I wrote an article on my blog around some points on this presentation. I thought the presentation was a pretty good introduction to contextual advertising.

I liked the part about Shoe’s Dad getting banned from Adsense. Adding in personal references can endear you to audiences.. 🙂

  36. Wow, very open presentation. I got 2 pages of great notes TY for sharing the info. It is also great to hear you started out from nothing. I hope you can broadcast more of your presentations in the future.

  38. Nice presentation, Shoe. Hopefully, I’ll get to sit in on another session of yours. I was at your session at SES Chicago last year, and took a lot out of it.

  39. Much better then the other presentation Shoe.

Would like to see you talk about more advanced issues in the future though.

  41. Yeah – I couldn’t agree more.

In a past life, I used to promote and run wealth creation seminars (marketing & back of house).

If you’ve got the fundamentals, you’ll brush up really well. If you don’t, then it doesn’t matter how good the content is, it’s rare to nail a killer presentation.

For what it’s worth, I think you’ve got it where it counts. As your wife says – you speak well… she might be a little biased, but I agree… 😉

  42. Add roughly 2 days extra travel, jet lag, and several thousand dollars of plane tickets to and from Australia, and I’ve got a similar dilemma.

But I’m sure I’ll get a lot out of these.

  43. I would love to cover more advanced issues but the panel is making money with contextual advertising. I think about half of the audience was pretty new to it. If you have any specific advanced issues related to contextual advertising I would love to hear them. (Believe me )

  44. Jeremy, you’re really improving on your speaking engagements. I’d love to see a video series on your website.

  46. wow, Australia. You know it would be nice if they paid a small company to make the video presentations available afterwards (minus some stuff to still make it valuable to actually go) and charge like $200-300 for the collection for those of us that still would like the info but cant make it. just an idea
