Forbes Article

Posted 725 days a go by Jeremy Schoemaker 11 comments

There was a recent article with Gray Wolf, Kris Jones, myself and a few other people on forbes.com. No matter what you feel about the article I hope you realize that there are no people getting rich off of buying Adwords and sending it to AdSense pages. I mean feel free to try it. Also while your at it try the cloaked meso pages too…. Then when your accounts are all banned shoot this Forbes reporter a email and ask him why he mislead you (as admitted below). There are very few things in this story that are true. Most of them have quotes around them (because that is what I actually said). The rest he assumed or tried to piece together from interviews I have done and my other blog posts.

“I love Google, Schoemaker says. “They changed my life.

- True Google has completely changed my life. I was on unemployment with a massive amount of debt until I found Google Adsense. (Nothing to do with Adwords).

“For a while, it seemed like everybody and their mom was doing this, says Schoemaker. “I even showed my neighbor, a mechanic, how to do it in a few simple steps, and he was making $8,000 a week.

This was true. I even had him on my radio show. Of course this was buying Microsoft Adcenter, Google Adwords, and Yahoo Search Marketing traffic to send to affiliate pages but… who cares about the facts?

I would assume the fact the reporter never linked to 1 source throughout his entire article (except the google stock) would be somewhat telling.

I emailed him and asked him why he did what he did-

Andy-

You totally make it sound like I am doing meso sites and cloaking for google. What the hell dude? This is really bad stuff.

and his response :

Subject: Re: Forbes.com reporter with questions about Adword Arbitrage

Jeremy,
You told me that you were cloaking your sites and I read about it in your blog…that’s what got me interested in this story in the first place. Are you angry that it looks like you were doing the mesothelioma thing in particular?
I’m not sure what’s so bad about that. But I’m sorry if you feel like I misrepresented you. I wrote that you were arbitraging terms like teeth whitening, mortgages and ringtones. The meso reference was meant just to be a simple example, though my editor added in a transition that might be misleading. I’m still not sure how this would be an issue. But if it is…my apologies.

Andy

Hrmm might be misleading? How about the 2 million dollar sum you name? I never even started doing arbitrage until last spring… I say that on my blog many times. (course that would mean you actually check sources)

I guess this is what people want to hear… even if its not true.

Google knows how I earn contextual income. Whats even funnier is I stoped doing a large margin of contextual advertising a long time ago since we signed direct advertisers.

ahh well I have work to do.

Be Careful With Journalists - Google Accused of funding Terrorists Part 2

Posted 725 days a go by Jeremy Schoemaker 18 comments

Due to all the hype with the whole “Google funds Terrorism” stories going around the net my phone is ringing off the hook from reporters. Seriously like this is nuts. They also are not even caring about the click fraud issues they just want to know more about the Terrorist-Google connection.

Let me be clear - The data I reviewed was apache log files and other stuff pertaining to the AIT clickfraud claims. I have not seen and do not know of any secret Google Terrorist funding stuff.

Matt Cutts is all over digg and blogs commenting on this and dispelling Google Terrorist funding connections.

The sad part of this story (so far) is all the journalist want is me on record saying that Google is funding terrorism or some crap like that. They don’t even care about the click fraud case really they just hear Google funding terrorists and they taste blood.

Anyway just be careful when speaking with reporters. They are your best friend on the phone but in the end you are responsible for what you say. Don’t compromise yourself to make some headline.

Accusations Of Google Funding Terrorism

Posted 726 days a go by Jeremy Schoemaker 23 comments

I was pretty nervous to be a part of this panel that reviewed the data and was on stage presenting our findings to the world live. I spent hours going over it to make sure what I saw looked authentic.

The main story was about the AIT click fraud case but what is becoming the main story is the outing of Google Adsense all over Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and some various drug cartel websites.

Loren Baker from search engine journal was a member of the press corps covering the event. Check out his write up here

Garbitrage - Affiliate issues panel

Posted 726 days a go by Jeremy Schoemaker 12 comments

Kris Jones coined a new phrase at the affiliate issues panel at SES. It was a pretty heated panel as promised ;)
Tim Daly (Google apologist) took most of the heat. I finally figured out why he hates arbitrage so much. During this session he revealed that his company spent $4,000 in PPC and only made $20 and he blames this on arbitrage. Umm maybe he should hold himself accountable. Unfortunately I have lost a few thousand in 1 day before playing this game but it was my own fault as I was not doing proper analytics. You can’t blame Google when you do something stupid.

Also Tim claims he is the sole reason (due to his diligent reporting) that Google has implemented the quality score changes. A pretty bold statement.

One of the highlights of the panel was when someone from the audience asked a question and as Tim was giving his answer another panelist, Frank Watson, started chanting WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG it was so fricking hilarious. I hope someone got audio of this panel because more people need to hear it.

Jason Calacanis keynote at ses chicago

Posted 727 days a go by Jeremy Schoemaker 6 comments

Today started off going to the keynote hearing Jason Calacanis speak. People are reporting that he said that “seo is bullshit”. This is retarded. He never said that. What he said was people should concentrate on making better sites and less on seo and I can’t agree more. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree SEO is blown way way way out of proportion now days.

It was a very good keynote. I do not always agree with what Jason says but I admire his work ethic and commitment to what he believes.

He is also very inspirational. Again great keynote.

$100.00 If You Can Beat Me In Thumb Wrestling

Posted 728 days a go by Jeremy Schoemaker 21 comments

Thumb WrestlingI don’t think I have ever blogged about his but like I am pretty good at thumb wrestling. For those here in Chicago at SES if you think you can beat me step up and if you do I will pay you 100$ cash.

The rules are pretty simple. The winner has to hold the others thumb down for 3 seconds. I will have Andrea video the matches and post the results for those who think they have what it takes.

So if you think you have what it takes bring it on!

David Naylor stepped up last night and got his arse kicked then would not come out of his hotel room all day =(
