Mozilla to the Mobile Phone

by on February 26, 2013 · 20 comments

Mozilla announced that they are going to try and compete with Apple, Google, and Microsoft on the mobile phone industry now as well.

In my opinion it’s about time. Not saying that I use Mozilla (if you don’t know by now I am an Apple guy all the way) but I still think that this was the right move.

From what I heard Sprint is the only U.S. provider on board with it right now however I see great potential for it in some of the developing countries, which from what I have read is their exact plan.

It’s a tall order going up against those big three but then again if you sit idly by the competition will pass you just like it did with Blackberry who is currently trying to make a comeback with the release of their new operating system.

So what do you think, do Blackberry and Mozilla stand a chance against the big dogs or should they focus in niche markets?

Mozilla is huge overseas so you never know what will happen. They might not be successful in the US but, hey if they can rock it overseas they are doing one hell of a good job

My grandma who is 85 just converted to Apple everything since she got her ipad and loved it a year ago. it is easy for her to understand since the computer, iphone, and ipad are exactly the same

I use to love my blackberry until i had to get an iphone for my job. Now I know that Apple is really the best operating system out there I mean all of their products are the same and easy to operate

I do not think they have a flying chance at all. I mean people are stuck in their ways as you said… you have had great experience with apple and are sticking with them

They might have a chance I mean they could just be a sleeper and be watching what everyone is doing and if they are making mistakes.

It all depends on how Mozilla intends to carve a niche for itself in the market. Blackberry still has a good shot at the app market because of its popularity overseas.

It wont work, its not going to be easy. Big companies like Nokia are struggling.

I hate Blackberry and love Mozilla but from a startup point of view I think that they would be wise to market to the fringes first. It would just be too costly to go head to head with the big guys so early in their game.

I think the BlackBerry will make a great comeback since they have already once dominated that area once before. Mozilla however.. eehhhhh maybe not so much.

GREAT NEWS! I think Mozilla is going to take the rug out from Apple and Google. If they can get into some of them developing countries and build from there it will be a big big hit.

As far as I understand they are trying to produce a cheap smartphone. So I don’t thin they are going into direct competition with any of Apple’s products. I do like Firefox so I hope they make it, but it is a competitive market.
