Ducati Monster 696 VS Schwinn Newport 150

by on June 16, 2012 · 15 comments

Recently I upgraded my Schwinn Newport 150 scooter to a Ducati Monster 696.  I wanted to do an in-depth review comparing the two.

Schwinn Newport 150:
PRICE: $2,200
Top Speed: 55-60 MPH
MPG: 88
Displacement: 150 cc
Fuel Capacity: 1.43 gal / 6.5 liter

Ducati Monster 696:
PRICE: $8,500
TOP SPEED: 142-168 MPH
MPG: 40-50
DISPLACEMENT: 696cc
FUEL CAPACITY: 3.8 gallon / 15 liter
produces 80hp (58,8kW) @ 9,000rpm and 50,6lb-ft (7,0kgm) of torque @ 7,750rpm

People who want to ride on your bike with you:

Your dipshit friends-

Random scantily clad hot chicks-

Full disclosure: I am only doing this so I can write it off as a company purchase.

What made you choose the Monster 696 over the Aprilia Shiver?

The Monster is a pretty good bike as an all-rounder, but I hope you’re also planning on writing off the cost of some decent leathers, or at least a jacket and jeans, plus some good gloves and boots on the company as well.

I wonder if I can pull the same financial trick – I’m looking at something similar in style, but more of a custom cafe racer based around an old BMW…

Nice bike Jeremy – the Ducati monster is a raw looking bike, it doesn’t have all the plastic like most other sports bikes. I really dig how you can see all the mechanics. Have fun riding this summer…
