Can Obama The Marketer Win Again?

by Jeremy Schoemaker on June 15, 2011 · 40 comments

Last election I voted for Obama. I remember a lot of my friends freaked out on me. I tried to assure them that Obama would appeal to them, the rich, because in the end thats who lines his pockets. The biggest scare was that Obama would not continue President Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy.

But, as I predicted, he did. He also continued other GW’s policies. I especially liked the “smoke em out” reference when we assassinated Bin Laden. Very GW’esq.

The Obama’s camp was such great story tellers that they actually had people convinced that they would not need a job and we would have free houses for all.

Exhibit A:

Obama care has made insurance companies report record profits. Wait wasn’t it supposed to level the playing field? Instead it has companies like me scrambling to get a plan in place before Obama care kicks in and I am forced to pay into the government plan.

But now that we have had 3 years of reality and a diving unemployment rate, can Obama once again rally support?

BTW I voted for Obama. The United States needed BADLY to fix foreign image. Obama was masterful at brainwashing convincing people that I knew he would do a good job. And he did. Obama is a masterful storyteller. Which is of course the key component to a successful marketer.

Now most people will get lost in arguing politics this fall… and thats fine. I will be watching the Obama camp to see if they can pull off another masterful campaign.

What do you think?

Yep, he will. The GOP is pretty defeatist regarding their chances. Re-election appears to be easier to win. (Bush Jr as an example… ) We won’t see the real GOP players until 2014…

I think hes a good story teller but that’s where it ends… With the crap storm coming down on him now for his failed policies or lack of policies I don’t think he has a chance.

After someone buys a product and knows it sucks, then marketing becomes much less important. This time the vague “hope and change” nonsense isn’t going to fool people into forgetting the slow economy, high unemployment, and huge debt.

The only thing Obama has going for him is that the voters have to “buy” someone to be president. (Most types of products or services people can do without indefinitely.) Obama’s hope is that he can make his opponent seem even worse than he is.

By the way, “Exhibit A” may be proof of Obama’s skillful marketing, but it is also why I would NEVER vote for the man. If Peggy the Moocher is for him, I’m against him!

Your pdf ‘Marketing weapons’ I have print it and have it on my wall… and every news I can put trough that super-prism and see which techniques are they using. You are right. Obama is master of marketing. He involved majority of Democrats and other ‘inert’ mass of people into ‘We are in this together’… and dot only in USA. I was outside of US in that time 2008 and I remember almost everybody I know was trembling ‘I hope Obama will win or it is going to be bad’… but if you ask them ‘what bad do you expect’ nobody knew answer… so strong scare… I guess similar was here.

I would politely disagree with AM’s statement that marketing becomes less important after you know a product sucks. Have you ever bought an Apple product?

The roads in Cupertino are paved with gold because of a company that understands this.

Marketing won the last campaign, and it will win the next one. May the best marketer win, whoever he or she may be :)

Obama is a great storyteller…the people around him are the master marketers. I don’t like Obama and there were times last election I was sure he would lose. However, it seems his people (Dems in general) know what they are doing and if they drum up another 500 mil utilizing social media Obama will be tough to hang with…

2008 Obama could be molded into whatever people wanted to think he was…cool, calm, above the fray. 2012 obama is just another policitian…a bad one at that. He hasn’t really done anything to “repair” the US image overseas. The only saving grace for him is he got Bin Laden…but that’s a 2-3 week bump. He should’ve waited to do that until right before the election :)

Ha. The CBO? The CBO has to use the assumptions given to them by Congress/White House. It’s the equivalent of me saying “Hey, calculate how much money I’d make if I created 100 websites a year, that made $2000/each per day”

I love when people say “The bi-partisan CBO found….”

Hey Jeremy,

Purdy good post Jeremy…You didn’t finish though…
Let me just say this,Obama is at least trying…When he
entered the White House,he entered with one of America’s
biggest problems ever…Now we have three great problems
and they aren’t even our problems…We are now Mothers and
Fathers to a few Countries…You have to look at thee entire picture
of what is happening on this Planet, at this time…I don’t even want to
get into this right now, but,I was writing a post for my Blog today on Obama
and our Future…

Here is what I have so Far…

Obama Should Legalize Hemp For Boost In Economy And Job Growth,

Doesn’t everyone think it’s about time to legalize Hemp to give our economy a boost with not only Money to help our Country , but to create Millions of new jobs and trades for this Country…Can you imagine the Imports and Exports if this were to happen…There are also 50,000 Products that can be made from Hemp…Go Here http://www.jackherer.com/ and Here http://phoenixtears.ca/ to find out more on this Subject…

I had that earlier today , then I went to my daughter’s to visit…Now I’m back and reading my email and Mr.Jeremy Schoemaker was there and here I am…

I am Canadian and frankly he was a better president choice then John McCain/rash palin.

Obama gets a bad rep from what Bush left you up with and did a better job then whats most sane people believed he could do.

He somewhat repared your bad foreign reputation , he saved your economy from it,s Republication deregulation and programmed meltdown.

He protected USofA soil , so far no attack on it yet and he got Osama on it,s own.

His only problem his he tried to compromise with republicans , since this would be is last mandate I urge him to cancel Obama care and put on the Canadian universal healtcare plan just Rename it “American Universal Healthcare”

What can i say CANADA won the American civil war , won the racist war all in the USofA the last war is the universal healthcare , maybe you need another really bad reccession to understand why it<s a right and not a privilege …

I hope for your own sake you vote Obama in again , if not good luck ;-)

Why did we ‘badly’ need to fix our foreign image? THAT’S what we need to worry about most when picking a president?

I think we’d be better off picking someone who liberally uses the veto power to stop all the crap that our pandering congressional politicians pass.

We’re getting what we deserve.

Obama and his team are definitely brilliant marketers. His election website had the highest conversion rate when it came to donations and he outclassed one of the most famous marketer – Donald Trump.

Shoe,
The reason that tax rates haven’t increased is that the dems were too worried about a public opinion trouncing when they had both houses, and now that the GOP controls the house it ain’t gonna happen.

Obamacare has nothing to do with insurance industry profitability….at least not yet. Insurance companies’ profit is based on a breakage model. The less people use services, the less the co’s have to pay out, thereby increasing profits. Insurance companies are recording record profits because their consumers are being more cost conscious and deferring treatments, not because of Obamacare. Most of Obamacare has yet to take effect. In fact you could probably argue that our shitty economy is the reason these companies are so profitable – food, gas, etc., is getting more expensive and people have to make spending decisions.

Yes, I voted for Obama. I thought that he would fix this country and the economy! But he didn’t, he followed what every other president that doesn’t have the balls to stand up to and against… the Federal Reserve! The Feds need to stop, they are controlling this country and the economy! They need to be stopped… we need a president that isn’t just trying to get elected to be famous. We need a president that can give the government back to We the People.

I think we shouldn’t even have an “Income Tax,” this would get rid of all the “loopholes.” Since the “Income Tax” isn’t going to the Federal government but the Federal Reserve.

Pretty shameful state of affairs when ‘marketing’ wins over proper policies that will actually help the country get out of the one big unholy mess it’s in.

Many people also tend to vote for the ‘image’ these days. So if image is all-important why not put Ken and Barbie on the ticket? Nice couple, wholesome, happy to have them as your neighbours etc.

And they say the people get the politicians they deserve……

The curtain has been pulled back on Mr. Obama. He is showing how unqualified is is for the job on a daily basis. The only reason he has had any success is he speaks well on TV- a good storyteller you say.

The unfortunate thing is, while he may be “the most powerful man in the world,” the President-ANY President- is merely the carburetor in the engine of government. Until we get a “new car,” it will be business as usual no matter who is President.

Once the economy tanks, Dr. Ron Paul will be handed even more credibility. In the NH debates in 08 the moderator asked if he had any electability, and also if he was out of step with his party. Funny how 4 years later Mitt romney and all the other republocrats are preaching an anti war platform when they laughed at him not too long ago.

Jeremy, it’s the good ole bait and switch tactic. Obama presented A LOT of perceived value and ended up putting forth little to no real value.

He will lose the election as he does not follow through on his merits.

Something that seems to slip in the memories of a lot of Americans is that the first 2 years of Obama’s office he was completely consumed with preventing the world banking system from collapsing. Now, everyone will have an opinion on that but… I think they did a really good job working that out considering how close that was.

Then the remainder of his 2nd & 3rd year he has been consumed with war efforts that he didn’t start, but has done a pretty good job appointing the right people to make good decisions and that seems to be “helping” (huge mess all together though).

And now he has to go back to campaigning so this year not much will get done.

But if he does get elected again, I believe his second term will be MUCH more effective because he can jump right in and not have to waste 6 months trying to unravel the previous administrations messes… and perhaps then he can focus on some of his agendas.

My hope is that in a second term he will focus on energy, and spend MORE money on infrastructure… and that will create new jobs and innovation. Lets not forget how the “New Deal” helped this country after the last depression.

The Hoover Dam was just one of the New Deal projects that not only gave thousands of people jobs, but look at what it has done as far as providing clean energy to the south west?

We let Bush have a second chance and he screwed the pooche. I say give Obama a second change to continue with the momentum and allow time for his efforts to take effect.

4 years is an awful short time for ANY president (or party) to solve the issues that we are all facing.

Hey Jeremy,
Obama Care is very frightening, as instead of having a freedom to choose, the government is going to choose for you because obviously they have your best interest at heart, right? (Every time I complain about the gov’t I feel dirty, I’m not one of those rant and rave complainers.)

As a business man myself, yes it’s scary. I’m glad Jeremy that you put a plan in place for your employees…many businesses are predicting they will simply have to fore-go health insurance altogether and pay the incurred fine to the government as it would be cheaper than participating in Obama Care.

Most of my time I spend writing on my watersports blog & we don’t get too many Political discussions over there. But your right, Obama is an incredible marketer. It’s one thing the Republican party never seemed able to mimic.

Politics aside, I’d rather be kayaking in my Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame but one of us has to run for office. Someone who’s can separate their personal gain for the economic good of the country. Since I have a face for radio, I’ll throw in my full support for you to do it lol (that’s one vote!)

You voted for someone whose background was a complete mystery … this time round he won’t get away with that. Someone who was raised and mentored by the most radical, anti-American bomb throwing socialists ever … and someone who never earned a penny outside of the non-profit, academia, political worlds … and you talk about how great a MARKETER he was. Gezzz! I never thought you were stupid and blind and unwilling to do your research.

Obama’s keywords … dangerous, anti-business, anti-capitalism, socialist and not cool but COLD.

For the 14 million Americans out of work during his regime, some of who I believe voted for him, they’re thinking of plenty of other words to describe him other than – marketer.

Reply

35 Shad June 29, 2011 at 6:15 pm

Well, I can tell you this about Obama…he would have never get as far as he did without the help of a complacent media that did not do their research, but instead created a cult of personality behind a man with 143 days of experience as a Senator before running for the highest office in the world. Of that 143 days, he mostly voted “Present” on the Senate floor, which means he wasn’t even there, but had an assistant stand in for him.

Also, if the media had done their job in regards to Bill Ayres (a domestic terrorist) Obama would have never made it out of the Democratic primaries. Obama launching his campaign for the presidency in Ayres living room, and serving on the Annenberg Foundation with him would have been the equivalent of John McCain palling around with Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber.
Check it out: http://articles.cnn.com/2008-10-07/politics/obama.ayers_1_ayers-and-obama-senior-obama-adviser-stanley-kurtz?_s=PM:POLITICS

As far as Obamacare goes, when it is fully implemented in 2014, you will then have the IRS determining which health plan you need to buy. Built into the health care bill is funding for 16,000 new IRS agents. Basically, they have decided that it is their money and they want to make sure you spend it where they want you to.

The health insurance companies make a lot of money but they also pay out a lot of money. People forget that part. They also operate in a 3-6% profit margin, which is much tighter than any other insurance industry.

I am a licensed insurance agent that carries licenses for 9 states and I represent 23 companies. All of the companies that supported Obama are now scrambling for survival, with the exception of United Health Care, who was hoping to become the third party vendor for a government run health care plan.

Scary times are ahead. I don’t care how lame the Republican candidates are, I will be voting for ANYONE over Obama. A lot of people voted for him to prove they weren’t racist. Now the next time around they will have to vote for someone else to prove they are not an idiot.

If people were saying John McCain was too old last time around, why are they not saying the same about Ron Paul? A vote for Ron Paul ensures another Obama victory.

I did not vote for Obama in the last election and I will not vote for him in the next election. Like the lady in the video, i was overwhelmed too when I heard his speeches. But my concern was how was I going to buy gas for my car, and afford my mortgage. With all the empty promises he made, I knew it was going to be expensive. Since his election my standard of living has gone down, and I expect the lady in the video is suffering too.
Obama is very good at marketing himself, he has never really stopped. And I fear that there are way to many people that are looking for someone to provide everything they need or want, which is what he promises. So i suspect that his re-election is very likely. He is slick, an exclelent marketeer, says what eveyone wants to hear, and no-one holds his feet to the fire.
I would much more appreciate the government getting out of my way, and out of my pocket.

Yea, Obama is a brilliant marketer and so was Hitler. The only problem is that Hitler’s marketing was propaganda and that’s what Obama’s marketing is as well. It’s nothing but a lie. Tell the lie long enough and more will believe.

Flogs and farticles are becoming less effective because people are seeing through the BS and people are seeing through the BS of Obama. He’s more of a liar than a marketer, in fact he’s a pathological liar. Example: While he loves to rail against tax breaks for the wealthy and loves to create class warfare by talking about things like a tax break for corporate jet owners, the truth is that that corporate jet tax break was in the frickin stimulus bill that he signed. He knew it was in there and yet he still uses it against people with money when he created it.

Jeremy, I’ve been reading your blog for years since the days of pimpin ringtones and makin bank and I’ve read about all of the stupid things you’ve done to “make teh monies”, and I’ve seen all the things you’ve done that have succeeded to build a media empire now and you’ve worked your ass off to be successful. What Obama is doing is trying to convince the blind masses that you’ve just been lucky, that you are rich, therefore you need to pay more in taxes because somehow you haven’t just quite paid your dues yet.

Dude, that’s frickin rubbish, you know how hard you’ve worked, but Obama and sicko politicians like him build their entire political careers on creating a whining class of people who will vote for them at the expense of real economic understanding. Because of Obama and his predecessors and their liberal ideology, there are millions of people living in the country today that think they are poor (what they stupidly define as poor) because people like you are rich.

The more you give to these people like Obama, the more they want and the more they take. It isn’t ever going to end unless these “brilliant marketers” get thrown out of office and we get people in office who understand business and economics.

Don’t fall for the lie.

Kurtzilla, Disneyland Obsession, and Affiliate Confession are all correct. I have been following this for a long time now. I am not a Republican but I am a business owner and just like a lot of other businesses, I am not doing any more hiring until this administration is gone. I have already moved my IT dept overseas so that I can survive while the “Recovery Summer” , or lack thereof, continues.

It doesn’t matter who runs against Obama in 2012. What matters is that this guy is voted out so he can take Holder, and Geitner with him.

Obama has spent over 1.4 TRILLON (that is 1,400 BILLION!) dollars in the first two years in office. The Dems have had control of the House (where budgets are set and passed to the Senate) since 2007. They have not even passed a budget in the past 88 months. The Republicans took over the House this year and submitted a budget to the senate (still controlled by the Dems) that was not approved. If you don’t have a budget, how do you know how much money you can spend? You don’t! That is a big part of what has led us to where we are today. Obama, and Reid and Pelosi were spending like drunken sailors when the Dems had control of the House, Senate, and the White House with out a budget! Obamacare, QE2, Cash for Clunkers, The Stimulus etc are all epic failures. Not having a budget means you can never go over budget right?….I mean, since you don’t have one….

Just sayin….
