How To Make Your First $1000 As An Affiliate (Part 2)

Posted by

Note: This is Part 2 of a series on How To Make Your First $1000 As An Affiliate.  Part 1 can be found here

So in the last post, I gave you a bunch of HIGH converting keywords that you should write articles about.

In response to that post, I got a lot of emails and comments with people trying to make this more complicated than it needs to be.  Here is what you need to be doing…

  • Write 5 or more articles/blog posts per day for high converting keywords.  Insert your affiliate links for a converting product into your articles as many times as you can, and have a good call to action at the end.

That’s really the base of what you’re doing.  This is brain dead simple, but it works because most people are too damn lazy to do it.  They’d rather play on Facebook, post on forums and read blogs all day then actually do any work.

Now the second part of this is that you need to continue writing 5+ articles per day (should take about 20-30 minutes each) and also start focusing on your link building for each of those articles.

There’s a few ways you’ll want to do this…

1. Build back links through social media accounts, press releases and article writing

2.  Inter-link between your articles, blog posts, squidoo lenses etc…

3. Paid links (optional)

So let’s discuss how to do each of these…

Building Backlinks Through Social Media

I’m not a huge fan of using social media for links, but for article marketing it works pretty well.

So let’s say you followed the keyword articles I wrote in the first post.  You have 6-8 articles already written.  Now its time to get them ranked.

What you’ll want to do is setup an account on Digg, Twitter, Delicious and StumbleUpon.  You’re going to use these accounts to build a link to each article you write.  If you can, make sure you use some of your keywords when you submit to these sites.  So for example when submitting to StumbleUpon, you would use the keywords you used in your article.

So if you want to rank for “31 Day Fat Loss Cure Review” then simply use those keywords when submitting to social media sites.  Now along with the social media sites, you need to make sure you are grabbing links through a few other sources.  Social media alone is not going to help you rank.

Building Links With Your Own Articles

Once you have 10+ more articles written, make sure you start to inter-link between your articles.  So if you went after the keywords I suggested, then your article on “31 Day Fat Loss Cure Review” will have 3-4 of YOUR affiliate links in it, but you’ll also link within it to one of your other articles such as  your “31 Day Fat Loss Cure Scam” keyworded article.

Now heres a tip…

Make sure when you link to your other articles that it’s not in your call to action at the end of the article.  You want your call to action to drive them to the affiliate offer.

Now when you link to the other articles, make sure you use the keywords you want to rank for.  For example…

“Now, I know one of the big questions most people have might be… is The 31 Day Fat Loss Cure a Scam (link the bolded part to your article)”

Make sure you use the keywords you want to rank for – Don’t use something generic like “click here” or “go here” that’s not going to help with your SEO rankings.

Now the last link building strategy is optional, but works very well to help boost your articles or posts that you want to bump up a few more spots in the search engines.

Under The Radar Paid Links To Bump Your Rankings…

I currently don’t do much SEO so I don’t use paid links right now.  However, I have used them in the past for my old sites and they worked very well to take me from the bottom of page one in search rankings to the top of page one.

Here’s a few of the strategies that you should try out once you are making $30+ per day.

  • Buy direct links from blog posts

This works very well for a few reasons.  If you find a blog on fitness, and you’d like to buy 1 single link from a specific blog post, then simply contact the blog owner and offer them $35 for a permanent link.  If the page ranks well, the $35 will be more than worth it.

Blog owners are also great to go after because most of them are eager to do anything to make money.  They really don’t care if you give them $35 or $200.

  • Buy reviews with direct links

There’s a few review sites out there such as ReviewMe.  You can buy reviews for your blog and have them link specifically to the pages you want to rank well.  This is a pretty good idea if you can find a few quality blogs to get a review on.

I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much stuff today.  So between Part 1 and this, you should be able to easily get started and be on your way to making $1000 in the next few months.

Talk to ya next time…

    Hi!
Good info. Nothing groundbreaking, but the necessary steps to take. Too bad too few don’t even get this far, but give up during the way.

    Keep up the great work!

Right on. Too many people looking for the latest and greatest when they have proven stuff that works right in front of their eyes.

      Laziness is deadly

    Justin,

Thanks for a sweet breakdown. You’ve helped me to change and refocus my usual strategy. I am hoping to make this work.

    Live it LOUD!

Maybe I missed it in the first part, but where exactly are these articles residing? Are you submitting them to Ezine articles, GoArticles etc.?, or are you setting up a blog/site? The reason I ask is that I HATE taking perfectly good original content and wasting it on article directory submissions. That’s the stuff that should be on your own site, helping build your own long term project. I realize that the bigger article directories have more authority and might help get your article seen faster after the latest Google algo change maybe not so much), but I generally discourage putting great, hand written content into article directories. If you want, spin those original articles so their somewhat unique to avoid dupe content, and blast those out to Ezinearticles etc. Since SEO is a long term investment anyway, you’ll be better off using those articles on your own, controlled site, than helping to boost the article directory’s indexed page count.

i currently sell links to my PR4 site, health and fitness works the best. Use the contact form on my site to get hold of me. Serious people only.

Thank you for this statement: Whatever you do, don’t follow the old adage of “do what you love and the money will follow”. That’s complete bullshit.

I am soooo tired of hearing people go on and on about following your passion. How about follow the money? One of my best performing sites is in the car niche. Am I passionate about cars, no! But I am passionate about making money in that niche!

    1. Sam

Personally Nora & Justin i think you are wrong!

By all means follow the money, but if you are honestly committing the time needed to make a website successful by writing about something you don’t enjoy you may as well stick with the day job.

I run a number of sites; some i enjoy (I write) & some i don’t (all outsourced from day 1) and i make a good living – but to be advising those new to affiliate marketing to follow the money is just stupid.

      1. Those with an active interest in the product will be able to smell a mile away that you know nothing about the subject.

      2. Because you know nothing about what they are looking for you will struggle to provide anything groundbreaking even interesting and will certainly not be able to write 5 articles a day on the subject 7 days a week.

      3. As someone new to internet marketing you will get bored, give up and end up never making a cent online.

On the other hand you can write about something you either have an interest in, know about, or are great at, keep your enthusiasm (even through the long weeks of not making a single penny) and get well paid for it over time.

No wonder so many new affiliates give up so soon with advice like this flying around.

opinions, opinions, opinions, i know everybody has theirs! Just felt i had to express mine.

How many times can people say “great” in the comments? Have any of you actually read the post which was nice enough but about as far from great as it gets.

  9. Bryan Shearer

Love how you just put it out there for everyone. You actually need to do work and try things if you want to make them work. Stop reading so much and start doing and failing! If you fail, at least you know you tried!

This post and series is directed at people who have yet to make any real money online.

Just because it worked in 2002 doesnt mean it still doesn’t work. Split testing worked in direct mail in 1960, does that mean its not relevant anymore?

      1. Phoebe

direct mail prin is almost dead..Steve was right… most newbies do this all already and are not making enough money to start a ppc campaign lol… this is not a lesson it’s a broken record.

        1. Justin Goff

LOL – direct mail is alive and thriving my man. I have numerous clients who are bringing in 6-7 figures with direct mail in 2010-2011.

          1. Anthony

I second that statement, Justin. Untold fortunes are being made in direct mail, as we speak. But I love statements like that…less competition!

    2. dixon

I think the advice is still relevant, the internet is full of this kind of scheme and there are always people wanting to spend their money on something.

Doing link building is a nice of starting your affiliate marketing products. Article Submission is a powerful tool in getting backlinks for your sites. I use an automated submission for my articles. This helps in ranking you site. Another way is to create a good landing page to redirect your visitors which drives traffic to your website.

As an associate you will deed as a pull between a potential patron and your associate merchant. In the off-line business world you would be well known as a sell exit or a sell store.

Affiliate marketing is really elementary really. Sell somebody else’s product and YOU obtain paid. There are many not similar associate marketing programs that you can come together for free.

Getting paid to sell promotion on your website is the easiest way to make money as an associate marketer. The many renouned way to do this is to come together the Google Adsense associate program.

Reading this blog post is like reading from a fitness blog that the key to losing weight is eating less and exercising more.

So fundamental, so true… and yet 99,9 % of people reading it will rather pay somebody 49,99 dollars a month for some miracle thingamajiggie.

  13. Tony

    Hi Jeremy !

I really enjoyed reading about your personal bio-story on how you
got started, hung in there and succeeded. That in it self say that anyone can make it online as long as one is consistant and not give up. Please feel free to visit my blog and leave me some feed back and again my friend fantastic job.

Thanks for the tip, I will write more articles. I have been tinkering with affiliate marketing for years. The most I have made per month is $350.00. I have several successful businesses, however I have not been able to get this hobby to produce good income…

  15. Vili PC

Great tips Shoe. I really appreciate the fact that you are sharing your tips with all of us.
I know that affiliate marketing is hard job, much more harder that CPC.
Till now I have no success with it, but hope will get good results soon

  16. Robert forster

Great article made for an entertaining read…just one thing though how do you manage to write 5 + 500 word articles a day on weightloss? I would struggle to write one.

  17. Little Web

Thanks Shoe for the tips. Cleared up a few bits of mis information I had received over the years.
Looking forward to having a go with blogs.

  18. Brian

I’m finding that tweets with keywords near the URLs are working as well for ranking. There are a few articles out there on it.

  19. montage

Thanks for this article Justin. I love to hear success stories. A few questions…

    1) So a few years ago I created 100 blogs (yes actual individual WordPress installations on .com’s) and wrote original content for each and hooked up Adsense and ClickBank to each thinking if I could make $1 per day off each that would = $100 per day. I spent tons of time updating each of them, all focusing on a very specific niche like betta fish to supplements. At most, I would make $4 per day TOTAL from Adsense and $0 – i mean a total 0 from ClickBank. I put so much time and effort into writing for each blog and earned next to nothing. What do you think went wrong? Am I completely off? Would the key be to start with 1 and write incredible content for that? Seems like it would take 2+ years to get a following.

    2) Also, so I get the point of writing 5+ of posts per day and linking over to affiliate sites. The problem I see is once the user hits the landingpage of the “weight loss site” they know what it is and they bounce..right? If the message and look and feel isn’t the same through the lead nurture process, the conversion rate is very low right? Is it a trickle effect where you get them later in emails? Thanks for any help you may provide…

    1. Tim Davids

I did something similar…Then one site took off and is now an “official” site and has incoming links from American Express and USnews. I never went after a single link. I bought the exact domain name for the subject and put up 5 pages :)

  20. Article Writing

I had the missed the part one but not anymore. All i can say after reading both articles is that great article! Few i already knew, few not. I really agree with your ideas on article marketing. Thanks for the post…..

  21. Stan

I enjoyed your information on making money as an affiliate, it really helped me to get a better insight into how to make money online, particularly Building Links With Your Own Articles.

    Thanks for the info.

    Stan

  22. Mike@ Free Offer.org

Some great posts here, I think there is a lot more to affiliate marketing than writing articles anymore. Since the last algorithm change by Google, it’s very rare and difficult to rank articles on the SERPs, social media could help find some traffic but I feel it’s better to focus on longer term goals and domain building.

  23. iDCx

great read – i liked the bit about article marketing,

i wanted to add my 2 pence here from an SEO point of view – i would suggest when you article market to build the backlink to your own website from a longer tail lower volume keyword anchor. dont build to your dynamic affiliate ID….

not sure thta came across in the post for the dumb asses like myself hay…

Thanks for the read! Time to get making money for new shoes again…

  24. Demarse

Hey I really love how you put all this together. I have been on here for at least 3 years and really didn’t know what I thought I knew. Now I will be putting together a whole new strategy. I really love the honesty. Thanks for your advice.

  25. Tricia

Honestly it sounds like the unskillful novice affiliate will not be successful because these directions give too many opportunities to filtered as a spammer.
