Yeah, there were supposed to be some “other cool stuff”, right? Or was it for another contest?

lol.. thats why I saw aton of comments on Facebook saying that they couldnt leave links because commenting on the post was disabled or wasnt working. Or maybe its ur system that only allows a max of 125 comments… because thats when it was disabled, which was on “Wednesday” evening.

Adam, the crybaby convention isn’t until next week. Go back down into your Mom’s basement and play your Atari. Maybe she’ll make you a sandwich with the crust cut off.

I was too late in submitting my entry, too. But to no one’s fault but my own. I read about the contest soon after it was announced but didn’t get around to writing the review. My bad.

13 Jeremy Schoemaker December 31, 2010 at 5:03 pm

What exactly would be my staffs motivation for not allowing people to enter?

The $5 I spent to get that app was worth every cent. Ultimate addiction indeed!

43 twitteraddict05 January 2, 2011 at 7:11 pm

I am absolutely re-tweeting this. By the way, did you know that as far as ergonomics are concerned, the standard seated-with-iPad-in-lap move is a completely comfortable experience, but there are definitely use cases where handling a flat slab becomes a pain? For instance, single finger typing becomes a bit of a game of hunt-and-peck, and that’s the situation you find yourself in if you’re ever standing with the iPad or holding the device with your other hand.

Reply

44 georgeblanco January 2, 2011 at 7:13 pm

No multitasking, no camera or iChat capabilities and no HDMI port. An iPad is a waste of time really.

Is it just me or does anybody else here play Babylonian Twins HD, too? Here’s a GamePro review: “With origins as an Amiga game in the early ’90s, Babylonian Twins has a long and storied history. The game allows players to switch between two unique characters, both of whom have unique abilities which will be used to navigate around enormous levels. We found the game to be extremely challenging–despite it’s kid-friendly art–and its head-scratching puzzles are incredibly satisfying to solve. With that being said, the best target audience for this game is the older crowd that can appreciate a truly challenging platformer. Worthy of special mention is the original Iraqi-influenced musical score, which is both soothing and appropriate for the setting of the game.”

The iPad is not a device to replace our phone, nor is it a device to replace our PC. It is a new device that will encourage new ideas and ways of doing things. It stands alone in the sea of computers and phones that exist in our market already. I’ve got to hand it to you, Nick. Congrats!

I bought one for my daughter a few weeks back. So far she seems to be really happy with the gift. I don’t own one, yet, so I don’t know what the fuss is all about.

Reply

50 Farzad H. January 2, 2011 at 7:25 pm

The device is completely underwhelming. It is essentially an over-sized iPod touch with a bigger screen. This item falls somewhere between a smart phone and a Netbook, and I can’t see a single reason to buy the iPad over either.

In my experience, the A4 SOC seemed to deal with whatever I threw at it handily. From opening and rendering webpages to playing the most graphically intensive games (including scaled iPhone versions, of course), it didn’t miss a beat. The photo app was particularly impressive, allowing for fast scrolling through high resolution pictures without a hiccup, and handling rotation and zooming with no resistance or hesitation.

The iPad’s screen is not as power efficient as OLED devices, which don’t drain batteries as quickly. Moreover, LED screen tends to be harder on the eyes than the e-ink screens used on eReaders such as the Kindle. :(

54 Richard Pascal January 2, 2011 at 8:23 pm

While the iPad’s display has been praised as crisp and sharp, its screen — LED-backlit with In-Plane Switching (IPS) — has its downsides.

The iPad doesn’t support Flash player, which means we can’t connect to sites like Disney, Hulu, ESPN, Farmville, or JibJab, and won’t have access to certain Flash-based online games. Apple’s arguments against Flash are that it poses a security risk and is a ‘resource hog,’ but the lack of Flash support is nonetheless a hindrance for users.

When you strip it down to the things that the iPad can do, and insert it into places that it makes sense, then it will be the right tool. I already see it is a good portal for anyone who doesn’t want a lot of hassle of a computer, but wants to have limited web access, etc. It’s a tool, and if used properly, will be a good tool.

“We want to put this in the hands of lots of people,” said Steve Jobs of the iPad’s price. While the device is lower than pundits’ predictions (it starts at $499 for a 16GB model, whereas people had guessed it would begin at $1000), it’s still a bit costly for the masses.

As I see it, there’s no point to this device. Laptops can do everything it can do and more, for less money. Even netbooks can. Why would anyone buy this when you get a much better, full-sized computer with an actual OS, not a phone OS, for significantly less money?

Not to derail, but Im looking for a specific post in which shoemoney talks about a tip for using title and meta description and how it shows up in google. Something about how the keyword is bolded and where to place the keyword in title and meta description. Can someone point me to the post?

It remains to be seen whether people will shell out upwards of $500 for a device they’re not sure they need, and aren’t certain how they’ll use.

The original Fieldrunners was one of the first iPhone games to receive critical acclaim from press other than the traditional gaming media, and it sparked a wave of tower defense games on the App Store. 8 bucks a pop!
