This is what I’m thinking if P. Diddy will produce a rap song using the material on this video. Enjoy! Influence so I made 1 blog post/And I sent out one email/Generated 500K clicks/I had no idea that I was gonna win but what happened was
a lot of people are marketers under me and they signed up and they send up to their list/And if you complain/You’re a d**k

Liked the video! It seems to me that you like to protect your image on the videos more than providing super helpful information. Not that I have a problem with that, but 2/5 (at least) were rebuttals to maybe what someone else had to say about you. While entertaining, I’m not so sure they are actually helpful. I love it anyway, regardless.

Reply

40 Water Aerobics October 27, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Lol you should know that Jeremy is notoriously known for rebuttals in public, been doing that previously many times :)

Anyway Shoe, congratulations on your win!

Reply

41 AnnieP78 October 27, 2010 at 6:52 pm

Noticed that too. But the nature of the questions make the rebuttals you’re referring to necessary.

Reply

42 AnnieLouJ12860 October 27, 2010 at 7:38 pm

Influence is essentially about compelling people to some action. It does seem like being named most influential is well deserved judging by the outcome of the project.

43 Roshaun Philips October 27, 2010 at 10:14 pm

Good point. Not many people have that skill.

Reply

44 Discount Pond Supplies October 29, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Oh yeah, i’m not denying that anyone arguing about why he won the competition is absolutely retarded. I’m just saying i’m not sure why Shoemoney feels the need to make rebuttals all the time. I would think he would want to do something else with these videos. However, i’m sure it has increased his exposure some. I saw people talking about how barman was called out at WF and people were talking about it like crazy, maybe that’s more helpful in his book than creating a helpful video that gets retweeted about 20 times. ;)

I’ve been trying to build my mailing list for some time now. Do you have any advice to share on that?

Reply

80 Zoran October 28, 2010 at 1:50 am

Jeremy you are right you crushed it and according to rules of FastCompany but also according to rules of common sense you did it.

I think that TC article is not about you so much. There are some real dumb-asses in the first row that brutally spammed craigslists, Facebook, twitter or did some nasty things to automatically trigger ‘influence’ without user decision (but hey FastCompany did not make it smart enough two step action-confirmation process with session data etc.) and affiliates/webmasters simply crushed them down… and also I could legally buy 500,000 clicks from Facebook for few hundreds of bucks sending people to misleading ad.

You did it simply awesome and more than that you learned lesson to all of us on the list. You gave us advice to participate ‘we are in this together – marketing weapon’ , you made direct call to action, you explained benefits telling that everybody who signs up may say ‘I am among the most influential people in the Internet according to FastCompany (association and endorsement)’ . Your email that you have sent to the list should be put in TC article and explain people how powerful marketing weapon arsenal you used to hit the top of the list in 3 days even if contest was open for month and a half and it was last minute to jump in.

I solute to your speech and calling them ‘Silicon Valley dick-heads’ (or something like that).

81 Kirk Taylor October 28, 2010 at 2:07 pm

I just posted on Alexia’s blog. I found it important to let her know that you do have influence, after all I had no idea who she was before you talked about her.

Great list. I love lists.A disadvantage tough is that I like to know who will be the most important in the future. The Next Web Awards has a category called Web Celeb. The Awards will be handed out to services or people based on what people believe will be their future accomplishments. That should be cool!
