Hugh Macleod Rocks

by Jeremy Schoemaker on July 8, 2010 · 42 comments

Every time we shoot a video or take pictures in my office I always get a slew of emails asking where I got the huge Purple Cow art piece.

Purple Cow Art

I picked it up from famed cartoonist/artist Hugh Macleod gapingvoid’s art gallery about a year or so ago…

I love it! It’s a huge reminder to me every time I look up to build something unique… something that stands out from the crowd… a purple cow.

Yesterday I was honored to be selected as Hugh’s business card of the day:

Totally awesome! Thanks Hugh!

Fantastic card! Great attitude during times like these. Who did the artwork for your card?

I think that the featured artist, Hugh Macleod was responsible for the artwork. :)

I never know what to expect around here. One day, advertising tips. The next day, a special guest blogger, followed by technical tips, and then back to general business. Today, it’s art! Too fun!

You probably made Hugh’s day. I wouldn’t mind waking up and seeing “Andrew Mason Rocks” in my reader. In fact, the bike shop would love it.

Call me old school, but I don’t really think of that as art. Peter Paul Rubens, Matisse, DaVinci… That is art. Cartoons shouldn’t be considered art.

Disagree. His concepts are fresh, and I love the line drawings. Hugh’s art is a prime example that irregardless of the media used, pure talent will definitely shine.

The artist kind of makes fun of art in one of his pieces, so I’m sure he’s heard this before. I’m with you – I love the masters.

I am more in love with Hugh’s Linchpin Portfolio than his Purple Cow piece. The messages in there are just so striking. Have a look at it right here: http://www.gapingvoidgallery.com/product_info.php?products_id=113&osCsid=5pr475k613gu77ehpolk53u0i6

I heard from a friend of mine Hugh also markets wines from South Africa. She met him once in an exhibition featuring the artist’s drawings in Texas, which also highlighted some of the wines he advertised. An artist who’s a wine fan, too? I am in love. :)

Kudos, Shoe. Hugh’s a great guy. I watched a video of Hugh once where he said that “the most important thing a creative person can learn professionally is where to draw the red line that separates what you are willing to do, and what you are not.” My deep thought for the evening.

Does Hugh listen to The Aquabats? The other artworks in his site surely remind me of MC Commander and the rest of the playful band.

A purple cow. A green dragon-like creature. Fish talking. Curvy lines that seem to never end. What is Hugh on while he’s making these? ROFL
