Business looks like it has potential but their site design/navigation is terrible.

Everyone is ragging on the site, but what counts is the quality of their product. They probably can’t afford a great designer because their shirts are only $10. What counts is I could order a shirt in like 4 clicks. For ten bucks? Fuck it. I’ll buy one and see how it works out.

Everyone starts somewhere. Let’s show support for our veterans. Kudos for finding a need in the marketplace and responding to it. I agree with the fact that the price is right. Good luck with your business!

They must be new, what do you expect? At least they’re making affordable customized shirts and merchandise. I’d rather buy from a terrible site that makes affordable, good quality stuff, than a fancy site that overprices their stuff.

Sorry, but – You must be joking! What a crappy site….

You know, it won’t be the first time Jeremy recommended a site that isn’t spectacular, but at least he doesn’t praise it to the high heavens and lead you to believe it was OMGTHEBESTSITEEVAR. It was a suggestion, and no need to be all “oh, you awful person, it’s a sucky site, blah, blah….”

How does a place like this make money? It seems like it would be difficult with just short runs here and there.

9 WhateverWorks April 9, 2010 at 1:20 pm

The answer to that is on the site in the FAQ section. I wondered the same thing.

Q. How can you offer FULL COLOR printing with no screen charges at such a low price?

A. Because we aren’t screen printers. We use the newest technology in garment printing, a digital garment printer. It doesn’t require screens. It’s like a BIG ink jet printer that prints on shirts instead of paper. It costs about $25,000 and weighs almost 250 pounds, is 4′ x 3′ and uses VERY EXPENSIVE INK.

10 joonlee97 April 11, 2010 at 8:45 pm

I thought that they could make money off bulk orders, but seeing this, and how they say that they can print one shirt per order, I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the numbers and how many shirts they’d have to print to break even on an order. Lets hope they don’t skimp on ink, or something, to make ends meet.

Reply

11 Hdelacruz April 11, 2010 at 9:05 pm

joonlee, they can print a shirt at a time because they print it on a machine, instead of crafting a screen on one machine per color used and using yet another machine to spread over the screen. It also shortens the drying time, I believe.

12 EllaineR April 11, 2010 at 9:22 pm

Some businesses do cut corners by skimping on some stuff to make ends meet – let’s hope that in this case, they just skipped paying a good web designer.

There are many similar sites, I agree, and some are better in design and execution, but maybe Jeremy has a reason for placing this on his blog.

But some companies can’t afford fancy websites. It doesn’t mean that they’re any less professional.

Reply

23 Bryan Jake T April 12, 2010 at 7:42 am

Sorry, Tammy, that’s no excuse. There are lots of ways to get around a small budget without having a website look like it could have been better designed by a ten-year-old, especially with the software options available on the internet for free. You could tap graphic design students just starting out, or friends, or even some of the web groups that offer free consultation. This is just shoddy marketing.

Hey… I thought that this was worth sharing. I don’t need the service, but I like the thought of supporting our veterans. This is from the About Us section.

“We are a 100% Service Disabled Veteran Owned
Business. The owner served in the US Navy for almost 10 years as an Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT) onboard Nuclear Submarines. He reached MM1(SS) before a military related sports injury damaged his knee and ended his career half way to retirement.”

A picture is worth a thousand words. The site really needs better pics to help sell the product. But I think it’s cool that they are able to print on shoes! Can’t wait to see pics of that. I haven’t seen that one before!

Reply

26 Husher50 April 11, 2010 at 9:38 pm

Print on shoes? I’ve heard of special equipment that can print on shoes, but usually designs are hand-painted. I have a couple of Chuck Taylors that I painted on.

Btw, nice shirt Jeremy,

I like seeing this kind of thing in the marketplace. When I first started working, it was next to impossible to get professional looking items printed in limited quantities. You paid a premium for this sort of thing.

I would consider this service, based on Shoe’s recommendation. We do print promo pieces in limited quantities, and can always add to our list of companies. Thx for sharing!

I appreciate the TShirt posts. It’s a great way to get new ideas and see what small businesses are doing. I would never normally search for a lot of the items and services that are posted.

Reply

49 Lola Dee April 12, 2010 at 7:52 am

I don’t think SEO will help this site. It really needs a good overhaul. Confusing links, unattractive layout. I doubt a lot of people will take the time to check out their links to the more relevant information when you can hardly distinguish them from each other.

What kind of shirts do you use? Do you print on other colors than white? I could use this for some of the teams I’m on. I guess I could email the site, but I know that the owners sometimes come back and answer q’s, so here it is.

Seems like a lot of people here are judging the site, and not the service. I understand, since a company site is like a store — you walk in to a store, and if the store looks dark and shady, you’re going to want to leave ASAP. It’s all about first impressions. But hey, give this site a chance. They do have a FAQ section, an About Us section, a working e-mail (I assume), they have a phone number and an actual address, and a Twitter account.

I’ve seen a lot of online stores, and I’ve seen a few with fancy schmancy website design that don’t list their contact details. So I’m saying, don’t judge a store by its site.

76 California Dreamin April 11, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Unfortunately a company’s web site is what consumers usually base their first impression of the company upon. If a company’s website doesn’t look professional, and it doesn’t inspire trust in a potential customer, then you’ve lost all that business without ever getting a real chance.

Reply

77 Mark Mead April 13, 2010 at 4:03 pm

I’ll have to agree with California Dreamin. If I think the site looks like something someone cobbled together for a fly by night operation, I don’t think twice about closing my browser window.

if they can afford 25k for a printer then they can afford a half ass decent website with some good photos of their shirts.

Photos sell.

I pretty much wear t-shirts to work around the house or on the car. I do need some nice golf style shirts with my business logo on them.

Wish they offered those.

Locally there are people who do them for stupid high prices.
