And The ShoeMoney System Theme Song Contest Winner is….

Posted: April 5th, 2010 by Jeremy Schoemaker

Rob Hustle! Congratulations!

Every single one of the judges who responded had Rob as their first place vote. Rob’s entry really stood out because he not only told the ShoeMoney Story of how I started but also mentioned all the key selling points of the ShoeMoney System. The hook (chorus) is off the charts but the real thing that got us was the “haters gonna hate” graphic during the hook. Which anyone who has achieved any success on the internet can relate to.

Mix that in with a awesome production and… you have your winner. We like it so much we use it for our ringtone around the office.

Here you can download the iPhone version (just put it in iTunes) and the MP3 version for blackberry and android.

We have also made a new radio ad with Rob’s hook that will start to replace our current national ads next week.

Awesome job Rob. See you at the Playboy Mansion!

A big

THANK YOU

To all the entries. There were some really amazing ones. Thanks to everyone who entered!

      April 5, 2010 at 2:54 pm

I said the same thing, Nicky Cakes submitted the entry, Shoe follows Nicky Cakes on twitter. I’d never represent my company with some trash talking hip hop song. Creative way to get some free advertising though Jeremy. What a let down to all of us who are actually talented.

      • TYCP Magazine
        April 5, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Are you one of those people that think all hip-hop is trash talk or just some of it?

Anyway, like it says, haters gonna hate no matter what you do. And just because Shoe follows NickyCakes on Twitter, it doesn’t mean that he should’ve been a default win or something.

I like the song because like Shoe said, it tells his story & also talks about how if you don’t have any skills, you’re basically screwed in this day & age. Couldn’t be any more closer to the truth.

      • Matt Turner
        April 5, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Actually Jason and Steve, your entry for me was up there with Rob Hustle’s. I had both of your tunes in my head all Friday. Trust me, it was a very hard decision for me.

        • Brandon Fletcher
          April 5, 2010 at 3:32 pm

This was such a biased set up.

          • Jason & Steve
            April 5, 2010 at 4:09 pm

I don’t want to take anything away from the “judges” but I agree with Brandon Fletcher, that this was a setup for sure. Anyone can download a free beat and put a nursery rhyme over it with cuss words. Not everyone can write a real song, with real lyrics, and really sing and perform it.

          • Jason & Steve
            April 5, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Furthermore, IF a rap song was going to win (which it shouldn’t have) it SHOULD have been Brandon Fletcher’s, it stuck in my head the most, and was short and to the point.

          • Jason & Steve
            April 5, 2010 at 4:18 pm

            http://twitter.com/shoemoney/status/10981068384

I mean, we should have called it right here.

Anyone can download a free beat and put nursery rhymes with cuss words all over it, but not everyone can record with real instruments, write real lyrics, and sing CATCHY and VERY BUY MOTIVATING lyrics.

            SET UP.

            -10 respect for Shoe.

      Someone’s bitter.

To be honest I didn’t expect Rob Hustle would win either, but you have to give him props. Rap isn’t just about rhymes. And it’s not that easy to write rhymes anyway. And I get that there were people who came up with more creative and unique theme songs, but at the end of the day, it’s not a popularity contest. There were judges, and maybe the judges just liked listening to rap music. So yeah, I think it was fair.

Seems like all the “contest” on the bigger blogs are pretty much just a game of the “big boys” giving each other toys back and forth.

Jon Volk just had a referral contest and the top 10 were all people who already had a huge list with John Chow and Shoe winning iPads…like they need it lol. Sure, they earned to be able to instantly win every referral contest they take part in because they built up their list but it just sucks for the “regular” or smaller noobs to ever get a chance to win any of that kind of crap. Though Jon did at least have one random entry winner.

Rob’s song was definitely well made and sounded great and would fit great at an affiliate party or something. But not really what one would think of to represent a business and definitely not something to sell the shoemoney system (at least in my humble noob opinion). But definitely no denying Robs jam kicked serious ass. Just unfortunate that someone that put in a ton of effort and would actually notice an extra $1k in their pocket and not already probably have a free ticket to the mansion didn’t win.

Shoe, why don’t you give away the ipad you won to a “second place” entry where you let the users vote?

Wow! I can’t believe that I won :) I am incredibly stoked! There were some great entries, and I feel honored to have been selected from among them. The competition was tough, and I would like to acknowledge all of the competitors who submitted entries. If I could not win I hoped to lose to JP or Ramone Jones.

Thank you to everyone who left positive comments in this thread. I REALLY appreciate the support, and I wish you all the best of luck with your online ventures. If you are going to be at Ad Tech in SF, hit me up!

For the people that did not like my use of profanity, I want to let you know it was something I thought about at length. I actually have a clean version of this song written. However, as an artist, I believed that it was important for me to not water down my delivery or my approach based on other people’s expectations. The deciding factor came in the form of one of the comments on the original Theme Song post. Someone asked if we should censor the lyrics (PG,R,Gangsta). The answer was “Bring it.” So, it was brought.

For the contestants upset about the result, I understand that it is disappointing when you put so much effort into something and it doesn’t pan out. All I can say is, it’s important not to tie your happiness to an outcome. Win or lose, I enjoyed the track that I made, and I would not have regretted entering the contest even if I had not been selected.

If you love what you do, then you can be happy regardless of what other people say about your work. It doesn’t matter if the judges don’t pick you, because in your heart, you will know you did something worthwhile that lots of people enjoyed. That knowledge is what will let you continue to move forward in the face of adversity.

That said, I would like to take the rest of this post to appreciate all the people that supported me… So, big thank you’s to:

To be honest, there were other good ones but Robs, you are the man.. thats a sick rap. Good choice shoe, the purpose of a theme song is to include the details of the system and Rob did a great job in there. Although, a lot of people might find it offensive due to the profanity in the track but its all about the hustle and the real money making deal and not just some rap or song we want to hear and judge. And again, a lot of negative comments in here. Rob has a message for the haters too “haters gonna hate” ;) Good luck all!

  46. Haters gonna hate...
    April 5, 2010 at 8:16 pm

You guys need to realize that the song won’t ever probably be used. It is just a way to get some attention to the site. And for those who are dickbent about profanity in the song need to grow up. It’s a big boys world and if you can’t handle some profanity in a rap song then you need to go work at a kindergarten.

    • CreativeMarketer
      April 5, 2010 at 11:10 pm

The whole point of the argument on profanity is that a theme song shouldn’t have any. It lowers the value of the song, much like a person commenting with the words “dickbent” lowers the value of his comment.

  47. BigMoneyBrooklyn
    April 5, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Regardless of whether or not you dudes think it was set up, or a mistake, or whatever, it makes no difference to question it here. To whine and gripe that you lost a theme song writing contest is low. If you had a problem with the results, you should have taken it up with Shoe in private. This is just poor form.

    • WhoisDoyle

The amount of whining in this thread is pathetic. The selected song is hot. Tells the whole story (edification) that backs up why you should bother listening to shoemoney in the first place. This would be entertaining even for someone who has never heard of shoemoney previously which I believe is the whole damned point.

As far as “swearing” and “not attracting the right type of clients”… are you frickin serious? You know who needs online revenue more than anyone else? People who don’t fit in at an office setting. People who just want to step to their own beat, be their own boss and not have to worry about corporate policies and politics. Hey if you want PC garbage so bad go get a middle management job sucking on some CEO’s dick and growing his paycheck. You CAN make high 5 figures or low 6 figures doing that fairly simple. But if you want to just fuck around and make money from your couch in your boxers while you listen to music then chances are you don’t give a fuck about swearing and you are probably better suited for internet marketing than Joe Square up there complaining about Jesus.

    • ara600

I’m sorry, but did you just say that the people who make money off the internet are people who just sit on their asses all day and “fuck around and make money off the internet”? Web marketing happens to be serious work. Which apparently you know nothing of.

Pardon for being naive, but why do all rap songs have profanities? Is that a necessity? I personally think rap without curses is still rap, just like rhymes without curses are still rhymes.

It’s embedded in hip-hop culture. But yeah, I’ve heard of good rap songs without profanities.

So does this mean Rob Hustle gets to… sing? In the Playboy Mansion party? Heh heh. The girls would love it.

Are you really going to use this song on the site, Jeremy? Or like BG or intro music for your videos?

As I remember I didn’t like Rob Hustle’s entry that much. But I’m not going to lie — it is catchy. Maybe I’ll like it if I listen to it more. Downloading the mp3. Thanks, Jeremy! And congrats, RobHustle!

I actually liked it when I sped up the track. If you play it at 30% faster it sounds pretty cool to me. Awesome either way.

I can see the point about the language, but after I initially listened to the entries this beat was the one that stuck in my head. This gets me pumped up and motivated to go make some cash.

Wow – Sooooo cool! MF this MF that. Great business decision. You are sure to appeal to a young demographic, but you really stepped in it for most people over 30. Too bad you decided to tie a great product in with something I really wouldn’t want my kids listening to.

Shoe, the funny thing about the haters? They’re just giving Rob more power. One thing I learned years ago is that if you have haters like this, you’re doing something right. Instead of concentrating on whatever they’re doing, they just keep on hating.
