The Guide to Making a Successful Blog

problogger 2nd edition

Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett have just released their 2nd edition of their best selling book “Problogger – Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income“.

Ironic since I was just reading a article about how with the USA turning more and more to forced government programs a lot of businesses are trying to go 100% to the web so they have the freedom to live wherever they want in the world.

There is no easier way to start making money online with ZERO technical ability than through a blog. Period. It’s 100% free to setup through WordPress or Blogger and they provide free lifetime hosting too.

Don’t think a free hosted blog can grow into something big? What if I told you almost every blog I know that makes over 1 million dollars a year started on a free WordPress or Blogger account!

But while it’s easy and free there is a lot to learn. What do you write about? What do you do when you get writers block? How do you get links? What kind of titles get people’s interest? and of course How do you make money without turning off your customers?

The Planet Bag

Posted by Jeremy Schoemaker.

Since yesterday was Earth Day I though that The Planet Bag would be a fitting Free Shirt Friday for this week. These bags are heavyweight cotton designed to be used instead of plastic or paper bags when shopping. Unlike the cheap bags from the store these are sturdy and machine washable it also has two length of handles so you can put some over your shoulder and carry some in your hand with out dragging on the ground.

They are also available in a produce size although we didn’t get any of those to try out. Added bonus they don’t cut into you hand when you are carrying heavy stuff like plastic grocery bags do. So they are good for you and good for the planet. Absolutely worth checking out at www.theplanetbag.com.

I Been Out A Bit

Posted by Jeremy Schoemaker.

I had some pretty mean surgery last Monday Morning that was just supposed to keep me our for a couple days. Well that turned into 4 days in the hospital and then bed rest at home doped up a pretty high dose of percocet.

I would like to keep it private what exactly my surgery was for. Lets just say from now on I will be writing under the name… Vicky. Just joking!

Its still going to be slow for me to get back in action but I am getting there. I forgot how painful abdominal surgery is. Thanks for everyones well wishes. You guys rock!

Anyway, there was a bunch of stuff going on while I was out…

Using Clickbank As A Seller

Posted by Jeremy Schoemaker.

As an affiliate, my usage of Clickbank was really limited. I never actively looked on Clickbank for products to promote but instead when I found a cool service or book to promote occasionally I would find out they were using Clickbank . So I would log in and grab my affiliate ID.

I rarely, if ever, logged into Clickbank to check my stats. And to be honest I am not even sure how much I made with them. When I promoted stuff, it was because I wanted to share it with others and I thought it was a great product… not because I was in it for the money. After all, most of the money generated from affiliate income on this blog goes to charity. I love to throw charity under the bus in the name of making money online. It allows me to educate readers on “how to” to do stuff and makes for great case studies while giving back to the Lincoln Nebraska People’s City Mission who we raised over $30,000 for in 2009 alone ;) . But I digress….

How to Instantly Get More Pageviews for Free

Posted by ddn.

A few months ago during the redesign of ShoeMoney.com I noticed this area next to our social links:

At the time there was a random post being displayed. Sure, that would have gotten some clicks but it occurred to me that there had to be a better way. Obviously some posts are better than others, and it doesn’t make any sense to rotate through low quality posts when there are the gems that people love but may be a few years old and the new ShoeMoney.com reader might not ever see them.

So here’s what I did:
