The UnderGround 6 Rocked

by Jeremy Schoemaker on March 15, 2010 · 25 comments

Just got back from Yanik Silver’s Underground 6 conference.  What a really unique experience.

There were not many speakers… maybe a dozen, over the 4 day event,  and each speaker got approximately 70 minutes of stage time.   It was really like a bunch of keynotes and in my opinion, everyone’s speech was keynote quality.

Each attendee was required to sign a NDA so I can’t go into detail about what people talked about or all the amazing takeaways I left with, but I can briefly outline what I talked about.

I titled my talk “The Rich Superhero”.

@shoemoney hits the stage at #UG6 on Twitpic

I started off  talking about how when I was a really young kid there were 2 things that really bugged me.  One was all the kids that made fun of me for being fat and the other was money.  If I could someday be a rich superhero I could kick all their asses and never have to let money dictate decisions.

Then talked about how I saw various angles… how I grew my companies…. how I leveraged each one into the next and shared some really out of the box marketing techniques that I have used to grow the companies/business/websites without costing me anything.

One of the biggest excuses I hear from people is unless you part of some magic crew that will promote your stuff (John Reese, Frank Kern, Jeff Walker, etc…) then you have not hope to compete.  This is bullshit and I really wanted to drive that home.

The last couple minutes of my talk I dedicated what I feel is the biggest opportunity out there today – local lead generation.

I finished early and had a lot of time for q&a.  Lots of really awesome questions from folks, then hung out and talked with people for the next 3 hours.

In my 7 years of conference going i have probably been to 50 events world wide.   I have never walked away from a conference with a notebook filled with so many “to do” items.  The speakers were excellent but the networking was as good as it gets.

I really want to thank Yanik Silver for the opportunity.

Awesome point stating……..

“One of the biggest excuses I hear from people is unless you part of some magic crew that will promote your stuff (John Reese, Frank Kern, Jeff Walker, etc…) then you have not hope to compete. This is bullshit and I really wanted to drive that home.”

I think as a social perspective many work at home individuals stop because they just feel as if they aren’t large enough, or they won’t catch the right peoples attention. But you wonder if they ever stop to think about the fact that you don’t need others all the time to hold your hand, you get out there and work hard and grow, yes friends like these help, but this will come over time as they mature.

Hey Jeremy,
Yanik puts up some great conferences. I’ve been watching the underground vids since underground #2 and have got a bunch of actionable ideas from the speaker’s presentations.

Maybe you’ll post a followup when you implement some of the ideas you got from the speakers and the Q&A sessions.

I was hoping to see a video of your presentation … I guess the NDA ruined it

That’s awesome. I need to step up and get my ass to a Underground seminar.

There is always room to compete even against Reese, Kern and Walker.

You just have to work it hard enuff to stand out.

So many people give up before they even start. This is so true.

Sounds awesome. I’m sure local lead generation is one the biggest opportunity out there right now…and thanks for your 2 posts (the one I’ve read) about local lead generation, I’m able to start right now.

BTW, Shoe, where’s the search box in your site?

Wanna try to find some of your older posts, but can’t seem to find the search box.

I love the sound of it. The feel is just different. The crowd is not the same group we run into. I would love to plan on going next year. I am grateful that you pointed us toward their crew. Me thinks that the mixing of these two groups will create something amazing.
Good job on always finding the “next” thing :)

Shoe,

It was great to meet you there as a Shoemoney system student, it was awesome. And the Shoe is a generous guy. I wanted to buy him a drink and he bought me and various others drinks throughout the night.

Thanks for the IPA.

BTW, I got photo’s of Shoe’s toes. He does some interesting things there, LOL. I will send him my photos.

Jeremy,
Your talk was one for the ages and from the mob you got AFTER the talk and the way you handled it was great. (He hung out until literally the room was being closed for the night).

People are really enjoying your fresh perspectives that you are bring and I truly see you as someone who is bridging the gap between several areas of internet business. Let me know how I can help not only you but your audience as well.

Keep at it as I know you will.

Cheers,
Jonathan

ps
When is your next talk scheduled?

Your continual encouragement to people to quit wussing out with excuses is always great to hear.

Jeremy,

Really enjoyed your presentation at UG6.

It was really cool hearing your personal story and learning more about where you’ve been and how you got to where you are (personally and professionally).

I picked up a lot of cool tips and strategies

Sincerely,

Brian T. Edmondson

Jeremy,

Your talk was very inspiring to me. I was lucky to have jumped into e-commerce and affiliate marketing years ago, and have been successful in building and growing my sites.

I feel I owe part of my success to you. Your no-nonsense approach has kept me moving forward. Following a few nasty Google slaps, increased competition, and changes in industry trends, I went through some rough periods. It’s easier to focus on the negative than the positive. It’s also easier to focus on those who are super successful, rather than striving to match or surpass those same successful individuals. I’m back on track, and doing better than ever now.

Thanks for your honest approach and the great talk. I look forward to seeing you at future conferences.

Tom

This Underground 6 seminar sounds like a great event. And I can tell from this post and from the comments you’re getting that your speech definitely rocked. Is there any way to listen to your talk or watch a small part of the seminar online, for us who didn’t get a chance to attend Underground 6?

UG6 was great for networking… I had the chance to meet face to face many partners I do business for a long while, and being introduced to new strategic partners.
Again, an excellent platform for networking!

UG7 in definitely in my schedule.
