Patrick Curl – The Social Media Idiot
Meet Patrick Curl. Patrick is a self proclaimed Social Media Expert from Dayton Ohio.
For a while this “Social Media Guru” named Patrick Curl has been going around commenting on websites that talk about the ShoeMoney System. He makes up various claims libeling me and my products…. like this one:
“I personally wouldn’t touch anything of Shoemoney’s with a ten foot pole.”
“This guy has made most of his money selling products that teach you how to make money.”
Ok, jackass… Really?
Let’s look at exactly what I have done and how I have made money.
1 – 2003 I created the largest mobile website on the planet which turned out to be quite profitable… with a lot of hard work. Google called me in 2005 and thought I could make some money with their new product called “AdSense”. I tried it and made this check shortly after. From there I followed the money and learned about affiliate marketing, subscriptions, donations and even selling my own products. I built a multi-million dollar website and shared everything I was learning along the way as a newbie.
2 – 2003/2004 I created ShoeMoney.com (originally googleninja.com) a blog where I talked about my life in general but also talked about all the things I was learning. The blog is 100% free to read and I never made any money from advertisers until 2007. In 2009 the blog brought in around 1 million dollars in various forms of revenue.
3 – 2006 3 other people and myself (Aaron Wall, Lee Dodd, and Dave Taylor) started a conference called the Elite Retreat. It was limited to only 30 people and cost $5,000.00 a person. In 5 events over 4 years it has sold out every event and I have never heard anyone say a bad thing about it.
4 – 2007 Created my own Advertising network called AuctionAds. That service made a lot of people a lot of money. I risked a ton of my own money to start this network and never made a dime off of it until we sold it to Media Whiz. The network at the time of sale had over 25,000 active publishers doing over $2,000,000 a month in revenue. Only 4 months after it launched.
5 – 2007 Purchased Fighters.com domain and developed a MMA news site…. a mistake I would like to forget about
6 – 2008 Launched ShoeMoney Tools – An awesome suite of PPC and SEO tools that thousands of people use everyday.
7 – 2008 Launched Shoemoneyx.com a 100% free (and just reopened) 12 week course on internet marketing.
8 – 2009 Launched ShoeMoney System. A step by step guide on basically making money every which way on the internet. It comes with a no risk 60 day money back guarantee.
So there it is… all of my stuff I have worked on laid out from the last 8 years.
The FACT is the Shoemoney System, being my first product that teaches people how to make money online, is only in it’s 3rd month and makes up very little of my net worth.
So lets look at the facts on you, Patrick Curl, self proclaimed Social Media Expert.
On twitter you follow 14,000 people but only 13,000 follow you. Is this autofollow policy what you advise your clients? How the hell can you follow 14,000 people and possibly have a clue what they are saying? Is this some special ninja social media technique that I don’t about?
On your badass Facebook Fanpage (Social Media Maven? ) you have a total of 72 fans. Nice work. I am sure your phone is burning up with clients calling.
Maybe you should focus on yourself and your business a little more and spend less time trying to get attention libeling me? Just a thought?
P.S. Obviously Patrick has a weight problem. I know sometimes my commentators can be quite vicious, so from someone who used to be very overweight myself, I am asking you nicely to please refrain from making fun of Patrick’s health.

Failblog and Icanhascheezburger Boss Joins The ShoeMoney System Webinar
I am excited to announce that Ben Huh will be our guest for this weeks ShoeMoney System webinar this Wednesday at 8PM CST.
Ben Huh is the CEO of icanhascheezburger.com and founder/creator of failblog.org. As well as many other wildly popular web properties.
icanhascheezburger (the most popular blog in the world with over 600,000 page views a day) was actually inspired by a young Hawaiian couple who stumbled across my AdSense Check and were inspired to start their own blog.
Only instead about writing about their adventures making money online they decided to make a site which focused on what cats would say if they could talk.
Then a couple years later they sold their site for over 2 million dollars to Ben and his investors. Who took the site and expanded it.
And it all started from a free WordPress.com blog! Love those stories!
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Ben for the last five years and acting as an adviser to their network. Ben currently oversees three of the top 10 most read blogs in the world, and will be an excellent resource to all the ShoeMoney System users who will be able to ask him questions live during the Webinar.
I am pretty excited! See you guys one Wednesday!
Line2 Rocks
So as many of you already know I decided to go back to the iPhone. The truth is the iPhone rocks but AT&T sucks, which is why I switched to Verizon/Android in the first place. Well that and the fact I’m a certified cell phone junky
Now what I couldn’t tell you when I recorded my last post was the real reason I switched back to my iPhone – Line2 2.0 VoIP / Cell Dual Mode App. At the time it was still in private beta but now anyone can get it. So with Line2 2.0 anywhere I have WiFi, like at home, my office, my hotel…, I don’t ever have to worry about AT&T’s crappy coverage. Basically Line2 adds my business number to my iPhone and lets me place and receive calls from that number over HD VoIP. Yeah, not only do I not have to worry about dropped calls but now I have great sound quality.
Now If I’m stuck in my car and I absolutely have to take or make a call, which for me is almost never, Line2 automatically switches over to the cell network to receive/call out. So on those rare occasions I do have to risk AT&T hell, but the cool thing is the call is still coming from my biz number not my personal cell number.
So before anyone goes, yeah but you can do that with Skype or Google Voice, let me tell you why Line2 rocks the iPhone way harder. First of all instead of using cell minutes for receiving calls like Skype and Google Voice, I get unlimited inbound and outbound calls over VoIP in the US and Canada.
Another great feature about Line2 is that its integrated with Toktumi’s hosted PBX system so I get an auto attendant, caller specific handling rules, etc. plus conference calling up to 20 people. It even has a speakphone in the App. Now we’re talking major cool iPhone that blows away any other phone in the market. AT&T still blows but with Line2 it really doesn’t matter.

ad.ly Publishers Starting To Get Paid
Recently Ad.ly launched its self serve advertising platform which allowed anyone to go in and purchase tweets from publishers. When we relaunched the ShoeMoney System I tried it out with a 1200.00 test buy.
Even with a small budget of $ 1200 I was able to get over 30 tweeters including:
TMZ
Stephen Colbert
Stanley Tang
TwtFM
The campaign stats:
Here are stats from part of the campaign:
Total cost: $1,138.65
Followers reached: 411,772
Total clicks: 3,253
Campaign CTR: 0.79%
Average Price Per Click: $0.35
So how awesome was the return? Well…. I am such a badass Clickbank marketer that I did not know I could not track my own affiliate for my own product…. so I have zero stats on exactly what did what.
However we did do over 40 sales that came from twitter as a referral that did not have an affiliate code… which would equal $8,000.00 per month, but again I am not sure they came from ad.ly…. there is quite a bit of talk on twitter about the ShoeMoney System.
I will do another test buy next week and report more accurate ROI
But with the introduction of the self service platform now on ad.ly I am finally starting to see the 1200 plus people that I have referred to ad.ly start to make some cash
. This was always the biggest feedback that we get from people who signed up to be publishers with ad.ly. They just never got any offers. Well *some* are now:

I hear you…. big deal… well its better then a goose egg. Its still very pale in comparison to our earnings from sponsored tweets:

But with the self serve advertising network now running on ad.ly we will see what happens. Better get on board and sign up now!
How to Get Analytics From Your Videos
Video presents an interesting problem for the online marketer. While video is extremely powerful and engaging, we give up a lot of “features” that a standard HTML sales page has. It’s very possible that your flashy, engaging video presentation does a worse job of conveying your message than a good page. Even worse, it’s very hard to do any kind of testing or optimization like you can with a split-tested sales page.
Enter Event Tracking in Google Analytics. Event Tracking allows you to track all sorts of events on your web site which could be an entire series of articles by themselves. Want to know how many people are clicking various buttons on your site? Event Tracking can tell you.
What we care about with video, is how many people are finishing the video? As Jeremy mentioned in another post, 90% of the people who finish the ShoeMoney System video BUY. More finishers = More buyers.
Fortunately, with FlowPlayer this is very easy. The meat of it is this snippet of code you place in your FlowPlayer config:
onStart: function(clip) {
pageTracker._trackEvent("Videos", "Play", clip.url);
},
// track pause event for this clip. time (in seconds) is also tracked
onPause: function(clip) {
pageTracker._trackEvent("Videos", "Pause", clip.url, parseInt(this.getTime()));
},
// track stop event for this clip. time is also tracked
onStop: function(clip) {
pageTracker._trackEvent("Videos", "Stop", clip.url, parseInt(this.getTime()));
},
// track finish event for this clip
onFinish: function(clip) {
pageTracker._trackEvent("Videos", "Finish", clip.url);
}
That’s it.
![]()
After gathering data, in your Analytics account under Content->Event Tracking you will have stats on Plays, Pauses, and Finishes. Of course, since this is GA, you can also look at all kinds of other dimensions of this data.
Now it’s your turn to implement, and figure out how to use this new data to make more money.
When Opportunity Presents Itself…
Last January I had a contest for someone to attend the Affiliate Summit affiliate conference. The winner not only got to attend the event but I also covered their hotel, airfare, conference pass and gave them $2,000.00 to gamble with. (Thanks Sponsors affiliate summit and AzoogleAds!).
You know what though? There were not very many entries… and of the people that did enter only 1 person really applied himself to win the opportunity of a lifetime. Forget about the fact that he went back to Canada over $6,000.00 richer, he was the talk of the show. In the video even the winner, Lyndon Reid, commented on how easy it was to win just by sitting on facebook chat, waiting for his friends to come online, and asking them to vote for him. I thought that was pretty out of the box thinking!
The original contest thread is riddled with a lot of the same comment, “Sounds like a really cool contest.. too bad I cant do it because of X”.
This stuff pisses me off to no end. Sometimes I think if people spent half the time applying themselves as they do coming up with reasons why they are not successful they could do amazing things.
But I digress…
Right now AzoogleAds is having a contest to send someone to their exclusive playboy mansion party. All you have to do to enter is write a essay of 250 words or less of why you should come to the party on August 28th. It doesn’t mater how much revenue you generate or who you know… you just need to apply yourself a little bit and creatively explain why you should attend.
Last years party was unreal… only the top 50 AzoogleAds affiliates were invited and I don’t know that I have ever hung out with a more concentrated group of top level affiliate marketers.
And I will see you this August.
(NSFW) Zivity Password For One Months Free Access
My friend Cyan Banister, CEO of VC funded adult startup Zivity, hit me up the other night with some free 1 month passes for ShoeMoney readers!
The last time we did this they were scooped up in about 20 minutes so act fast.
Just goto this page here and enter code “Shoemoney0714″
Cyan has been my featured guest on my radio show talking about her new startup which she calls a cross between myspace, playboy, and american idol.
Full Affiliate Disclosure: I receive zero compensation for this post or if you decide after your free month to continue with Zivity. I support the site frankly because it kicks ass. OHH and also cause lots of the Zivity models are ShoeMoney readers and have sent in pictures of themselves in ShoeMoney Shirts.
