UFC109 Relentless Randy Couture VS Mark Coleman

by Jeremy Schoemaker on February 6, 2010 · 15 comments

I am pumped for tonights UFC card. While its not a huge main card title fight there are tons of great match ups on the card. I am a pretty hardcore mixed martial arts fan and have been watching events for the last 10 years.

Randy Couture Vs Mark Coleman

I remember when Randy Couture came into the sport and people were saying he was too old.. Now at 46 years old he is still one of the best fighters in the world. But he has essentially lost his last 3 fights (depending if you think he beat Vera or not). Tonight Randy is fighting Marc Coleman whois pretty close in age. Both are UFC Hall Of Famers. Both have wrestling backgrounds but I really doubt if Coleman has the ability to finish the fight. Randy recovers very well if Coleman should land a good punch.

I predict Randy will win what most will consider a pretty boring fight

Frank Trigg VS Matt Serra

I really like Frank Trigg. I have met him several times and even spent some time at his house in Las Vegas. He reminds me of a lot of my friends i grew up with. Anyway he has his hands full tonight with former welterweight champ Matt Serra.

This is a really interesting matchup because Serra who is a BJJ blackbelt has not one a fight via submission in over 8 years. Trigg who is a very decorated wrestler has been winning fights with striking and submissions. Both men are near the end of the career but in order to win this fight they are going to have to go back to their roots.

I like Trigg to win this fight TKO ground and pound. He is a big underdog in this fight and I bet a couple hundred on him in vegas at +135.

Lots of great other fights on the card. What fight are you most looking forward to seeing?

Glad to see the MMA posts are back.

I think Randy will take Coleman but I really do hope Coleman takes this fight.

I have to admit not a very exciting UFC card but i am a Huge Randy Couture fan so hoping he pulls out the victory in a dominant fashion.

Other than that, i’m interested to see the Dan Miller and Damian Maia matchup

Everytime i think of Coleman, i think of a lumbering Ox. He definitely wont be able to finish the fight, in saying that, i dont really see couture ending it either. Couture by Decision.

Marquardt by KO on Sonnen, maybe first round. Prob second.

Trigg vs Serra could go either way. The infamous rear naked choke could come into play, but i think back to when serra fought hughes the last time, once hughes got serra down, serra pretty much lay there and did nothing.

Swick will either decision Thiago, OR Thiago will get a good shot on Swick and win by TKO.

I have never watched UFC. The sport just seems a little barbaric for me.

I actually think that Couture/Coleman is going to be more exciting than most people think. That said, I’d rather it not be THE main event for a major card.

Like you said, though, lots of good matchups. I wish we could see the Rolles fight though…

I am really looking to the Randy vs Coleman fight. I really hope Randy can dominate this fight because the last against Vera was tricky. The UFC should really check the way they judge fights because we are seeing strange outcomes lately.

Swick vs Thiago can also be an interesting fight.

If I can be in 1/2 the shape that Randy Couture is in when I’m 46, I will be one happy camper!

Trigg is finished – when was the last time that he beat anyone of any stature? According to Sherdog, Trigg’s last victory came against Danny Babcock…

Trigg has to be done in the UFC after this fight..

Randy is in great shape and has much better training staff then Mark. Not mention, he can pay for top level coaching in addition to him being great shape.

I felt sorry watching Couture Coleman. Mark Coleman looks like a dinosaur, I remember when this guy was a savage in Pride FC. I will never forget http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oCnqy8Klaw this is how I would like to remember him. He has done way too many roids, his mind is going, you can see the early onset of dimensia, it was a sad day. I was relieved to see Randy just tap him out via rear naked choke, I hope that poor guy never fights again.

Surprised by the way Serra handled Trigg, he deserves more respect. Everyone considers his KO of St Pierre a fluke, which it was, but the guy was the champ for a short time.

UFC 109 was pretty boring overall…except for Paulo Thiago fight… pretty impressive. I respect guys like Tiago who punch without taking their eyes off the opponent. Serra was good as well… but that guy always takes his eyes off of his opponent…makes you wonder if it was just a lucky knockdown. Anyways… these guys need to be a lot better if they want to take down GSP… check this guy’s take on GSP
…not sure what he’s smoking.

I had no idea Randy Couture was 46. The guy looks so much younger. It must be all the fighting keeping him young. I’m not the biggest UFC follower, but I really like him out of all of the other fighters.
