Starcraft2, Real Estate, and Android Apps – Big Opportunities in 2010

Posted: December 31st, 2009 by Jeremy Schoemaker

I see some huge opportunities in 2010 in a few niches.

Real Estate – Most experts believe we are seeing the bottom floor of the housing market. Wether or not thats true there is big buzz again about making money with real estate. Just this morning I heard a couple commercials about how now is the biggest opportunity ever to make a fortune in real estate. The hype machine is going full bore and people are searching for more information about products that can give them a competitive edge. I think applications and web services that cater to the real estate investor are going to be huge in 2010.

Android applications – My prediction last year was that the Android platform would be dead before I would ever be able to try it. I was kind of close.. I just had to leave Sprint to get a decent android phone. But Android is not going anywhere… in fact its gaining market share like crazy. There is a huge market imbalance right now on the Android platform and developers are getting away with making very sub-par applications for 10x the price of their iPhone counter parts. Good Android applications sell for $10-$20 all day. and they sell tens of thousands of applications. Android developers right now have it extremely good. Very crappy applications are selling really well. Its really a developer/sellers market right now on the Android but I think by the end of 2010 it will be more of a buyers market as the marketplace is saturated with quality low cost applications.

Starcraft2 – 2010 will finally be the year that Blizzard releases the sequel to one of the best selling games ever created. Its already in private beta and they are scheduled for a late q1 release. This game is going to be huge and people who build communities/news sites around it and become authorities in the space are going to make a ton of cash. I still can’t believe that the original (created in 1998) is still usually in the top 100 best selling games daily on amazon. Starcraft2 is going to be huge!

But these are just my thoughts on 2010. What niches are you looking into?

It would be interesting to see who can use apps over the next 12 month most effectively to generate affiliate revenue… sounds like a contest!

I’m hanging out for the release of Starcraft 2 but the way they are going it will be 2012 before it is released.

I agree. Blizzard is known for making excellent, complete games, but they are also infamous for breaking deadlines. They’ve got Diablo 3 on their plate too right now, so I’m not sure if 2010 will be the year we FINALLY see the next version.

    Hey Jeremy,

I still have some reservation on the opportunity for android,

There has been some discussion going on which I quite agree — iPhone user are trained to spend while android user are trained to get free stuff.

But you’re right the same apps is making 0.1 of its counterpart in iPhone. That is pretty interesting

There should be quite a few things to look at in 2010. For a start, selling things online looks set to continue to be a riser. Homemade, green and economical things especially.

    Good luck!

Real Estate investing was my first love before i started making my living online.

I always thought that’s where I would make my money, I never dreamed it would be on the internet.

I hope you are right jeremy about this being a big year for real estate investors, because It’s something I have always really enjoyed and wanted to get back into.

I know you were talking about making money by providing something of value to people wanting to get into real estate and I totally agree.

But for me I plan to be one of the people making some big money in real estate.

I hope 2010 is a prosperous year for all of us.

Completely agree with Real Estate being a big opportunity for 2010. I am a broker and Investors actually started scooping up properties in 2009. In fact we are seeing a lot of “flips” again.

I don’t agree that we are the bottom yet. Of course real estate is very local so there may be some areas that have leveled out.

Wishing everyone a great New Year

It’s already hot lol. New ways to monetize it may pop up in 2010. Maybe we can rent our soul for some virtual currency..

    Happy New Year!

I absolutely loved playing StarCraft when I was younger. I wasn’t really into video games but that game was able to suck me into the total experience of playing with the 3 alien species. Very addictive and I can’t wait for the sequel to be released. I agree that it will be huge for Blizzard and for the rest of the gaming community.

It would be interesting to see the real estate flips again. I don’t believe that we will go back to the craziness of 2007-8 for real estate flipping, but who knows?

For my site, the niche would be the 2010 Congressional elections. It might not be something that brings in a lot of money, but it should be a good year for site traffic.

Agree with Android (although I dumped mine and went back to iPhone, lack of apps prob the main reason) but real estate??

The Feds will stop buying mortgage paper in April, and the free tax money for 1st time buyers thing will end then as well.

Banks still need to dump the growing inventory of foreclosures they are sitting on, and even good mortgages are underwater which will lead to further price declines. Vegas, S Florida and other hot spots will see another 20-30% drop this year as jobs and limited lending combined with the lack of government subsidy will let the market begin to right itself and find a “real” bottom. It ain’t over yet. Far from it. The 3.5 trillion dollar commercial real estate bubble has yet to be addressed.

I would hunker down and wait for a 2nd dip once all of this free money dries up. Probably later this year if not next year.

But if you do want to make money on real estate you can leverage the shit out of delinquent tax lien/deeds and there’s plenty of them to go around these days.

Great post Mr Shoe. I’m definitely going to look and see what Blizzard is up too. I’m a Warcraft player mostly. School and no Gaming PC keep me off the games.. haha

Android looks hot but not enough apps to please me yet.

I could also use a Condo… I gotta get my grind on with this affiliate marketing, it has me depressed at time.

Maybe I should make a support group for depressed affiliates and charge per call??

    January 2, 2010 at 8:58 am

I think this year there’s going to be a major change where top affiliates stop promoting pie in the sky bullshit (diet, muscle, Google nonsense) and start promoting real products with real benefits. Real Estate is a good call but I’m still not sure we’ve seen the bottom yet, especially in the UK.

    • Shane
      January 3, 2010 at 10:13 am

That would certainly be very interesting.
However, I don’t see this happing until people stop buying pie-in-the-sky-bullshit.

Looking at some sales-stats, it seems that hope-driven buying isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I could be wrong of course.

My prediction: Some things will change and others will stay the same.

      Got that from my horoscope.

    January 2, 2010 at 1:18 pm

I think 2010 will be the year that crowdsourcing really takes off. Platforms will emerge to enable it to be used far more widely than it has been to date.

With 1.8m Californian houses still worth less than the cost of debt, and the shadow inventory of foreclosures building up there will be buying opportunities for those with the capital to buy at low leverage.

Interesting perspective on Starcraft 2, not that you’re not right about it but it sure seems to me like the SC2 sites have been established for some time now following the development. Seems like it would be hard to jump into now and get traction if you didn’t really know something about the SC gaming world.

As for 2010 opportunities. I’ve launched a free (WPMU based) blog service for the stamping community at Stampin Corner. That’ll be one of my big focuses in the new year.

I’ve seen all the Starcraft 2 trailers some 10 times each.

I haven’t played online for years, however, I can’t wait for the release of SC2.

It reminds me of the good old days. I see Starcraft 2 as the Modern Warfare release of Computer multiplayer games in 2010.

I think Apple if gonna blow it up with the 4GSx….real estate is eventually gonna bounce back, really is just a matter of time. However, I don’t think running out and buying a bunch of property without the right knowledge (like some are doing) is intelligent or profitable…

Been sitting on the SC2 cheat space for about a year waiting for the game to come out. I was a huge fan of SC, and I really think the sequel will be even better, and should have a nice shelf life too – not enough money to retire with, but should allow for getting some goodies!

In the spirit of sharing, I think another big item this year is going to be the Tablet. Both Apple and Google are apparently introducing them shortly, Apple may be doing so tomorrow. If so, it could be a huge explosion into a new area that no one outside of graphic tablets, has been able to break into. Could be the next “ipod/iphone” hoopla.
