Last Friday, after years of frustration with Sprint, and seeing the busted Palm Pre in action, I decided to give the iPhone a try. I had many concerns about switching… mostly because of AT&T network but I had some other valid concerns as well.
To refer to my phone as a phone is kind of silly. I actually talk on the device probably less then 5% of the time. I rarely take phone calls and even more rarely make them. I use a service called phonetag to transcribe all voice mails to email and send them to me which I then reply in email.
With my Sprint phones over the years I have used my “smart phones” mostly for texting and emailing. I never really browsed the internet with them. The lack of css/js support mixed with phone CPU speed and network speed just made it worthless.
I have been receiving so many emails about switching to the iPhone since my post about me leaving sprint that I decided to do a little mini review discussing my concerns and what I have found. Please keep in mind its only been 2 weeks (almost) and I will write a 90 day review or so and probably have some things to bitch about then.
The Cost
While this was not a big concern to me it was with the commentators in my leaving Sprint post. Lots of people were saying that our company would be paying a lot more for the iPhone plans then with what we had with Sprint. Surprisingly we will be saving about $3,000 per year with At&t over Sprint. We are on a shared business plan with rollover minutes and the cost savings is pretty substantial. I am fairly certain they do not have a similar thing on Sprint because we were always asking our reps if we should move to a better plan and they always said we had the best one so either they were lying to us or they can’t compete price wise.
Network Coverage
Network Coverage was far and away my biggest concern in switching from Spring to At&t. I don’t talk much but when I do talk its important and the rumors of dropped calls really frightened me. When I purchased the iPhone the salesman at the At&t store said that here in Lincoln Nebraska we actually have some of the best iPhone data speeds in the world being they JUST rolled out new hardware not to long ago. I still was not fully convinced so I started talking to other customers as they were walking in to trade in their iPhones for new ones. The testimonials from the customers was enough to make me take the leap and get one.
At my house is supposed to be a “Dead Zone” which I wasn’t thrilled about but I have to say the phone works great there. I get 2-3 bars at worst and have never missed a call yet. The same is true for my office which is only a block away from my house. I am still leery though and have no delusions that the coverage will be perfect. Even some of my friends who are the biggest Mactards have told me to expect some dropped calls.
Like I said though so far so good. I have gone around rural Nebraska and the AT&T coverage is as good as Sprints…. if not better to my surprise.
Battery
The battery life was my 2nd biggest concern about switching to the iPhone. I would say the battery life for regular use is as good as the Blackberry. When I first got the iPhone I could not stop playing some of the tower defense games and they wore it down pretty fast… but what do you expect. I picked up a battery extender/charger to travel with me.
Keyboard
Another concern was the keyboard. Ever since my first “smart phone” I have always really enjoyed having a full keyboard on my phone. I was really worried about what the touch screen would be like. But just like what everyone told me it would take less then a week to be good with the touch screen keyboard. I wish every application let you type in landscape mode. I am considerably faster in landscape mode versus normal but maybe that will improve. I am happy with the keyboard and I LOVE the auto correct.
Applications
Unreal.. just totally completely unreal. Lets not even get into 3rd party apps. I will just cover the Apple ones for now:
1) Mail – The mail app rocks and has awesome integration with Gmail hosted email.
Just like the blackberry it does support PUSH if you use their delivery service (.me) BUT also just like the blackberry if you do use the PUSH service it creates some complications with IMAP. We are using GMAIL for our domain and the integration works awesome with the mail application.
2) Photos – I cant tell you how many times I see people and they ask to see pictures of my kids. And I never have them… or if I did have them on the blackberry (on the couple MB of storage it had) they were very very very bad quality. I have over 10,000 pictures on my iPhone at full quality dating back over 8 years. This takes up less then 1% of the space on my iPhone and its really nice to have when I want to show someone something.
3) Safari – Probably the most impressive default application. Apple really outdid themselves with this web browsing application on the iPhone.
Usability
This device replaced many things for me. And I don’t mean some bullshit “in theory it can do it” I am actively replacing these items.
- iPod – The 3GS also has a built in Nike+ receiver which is awesome for workouts.
- Portable movie player – With the large 32gb storage capacity I can store tons of dvd-rips for viewing while traveling.
- My Laptop – Sure it has not TOTALLY replaced my there are very few things that I can’t do with my iPhone.
- Dictaphone – With the Voxie iPhone application I can record myself and send it to myself, to my secretary, or to be transcribed by their professional transcription services. THIS ROCKS. I can now just talk into my iphone and get emailed text for blog posts or whatever else I want.
- Camera – Yea I hear you… “but $hoe every phone has a camera”, but seriously how many times have you actually had a photo printed and framed with your .5mp camera phone. I dunno what the mp was on the blackberry but it was shit. I went to our nanny’s wedding last weekend and I took photos with the 3gs while my wife used our cannon 8mp point and shoot. I would say my photos turned out every bit as good as my wifes if not better. Here is one photo I took with my iPhone of the happy couple with my kids:

6 – Flip Video Camera – With the iPhone I can record nice video and directly upload to youtube. The quality is good enough for youtube so why do I need a flip anymore? Checkout this video from last weekend getting my toenails painted with my daughter (I gotta learn to get my finger out of the way):
Sure I am not going to be up for any best picture nominations anytime soon but seriously its plenty good enough for the stuff I am playing with.
If you are thinking bout getting an iPhone I would first encourage you to talk with other AT&T subscribers in your area. If the service is good to go then go for it!
There is a 30 day window you can return it and get a full refund should it not be everything you thought it was.
If money is a problem you can always sign up to win one of 2 iPhone 3GS’s being given away by Brian Norgard!

The photo and video quality look very good! Most of the concerns you had seem to be fine and it looks like the switch over to the iPhone was definitely worth it! Enjoy your new phone!

When will we see the first Shoemoney app in the App Store?
July 2, 2009 at 6:58 am
Damn shoe, your nanny is pretty hot…
July 3, 2009 at 2:05 am
Yes …she is too hot n kids are too cute.Shoe i didnot find any resemblance of your kids with you
July 2, 2009 at 6:58 am
You’ve just reinforced all my motivation to get an iPhone as soon as we’ve emigrated. We are able to get them here (South Africa) but bandwidth is terrible (and expensive) and they are only sold on 36 month contracts with crappy 250mb data packages, and we’re leaving in 9 months – so am just going to enjoy dreaming about the day I walk into a store and get one shortly after we arrive.
July 2, 2009 at 7:46 am
Great post.i phones are pretty awesome.
July 2, 2009 at 7:50 am
Just made the switch to the iPhone about two weeks ago. “I’m a PC” and have been a Palm Treo user for about 4 years. I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for Verizon to release a decent phone…and decided that I couldn’t wait anymore.
I am SO IMPRESSED with the damn iPhone that I can’t put it down and I am constantly showing people stuff on it (even though they don’t care). The GPS/map capability and Safari are my favorite built-in Apps. I also second the convenience factor of having a phone, camera, video (I have a Flip as well), iPod, mini-computer, etc and tons of storage…it is AWESOME!
Another cool thing, is the Amazon Kindle App (free) that lets you read Kindle books. It is flippin’ cool to be able to pull out your phone and be able to read a book anywhere, and it works very well. It also automatically syncs pages through Amazon, so if I leave off on page 73 when reading my Kindle, the iPhone will ask me if I want to start on page 73 when I start reading on it (and vice versa).
I can’t imagine how many customers Verizon must have lost and will continue to lose…switching from the Palm Treo to the iPhone is like switching from 56K modem to 5Mb cable Internet…it is worth breaking your contract for.
And I agree with Dan, your nanny IS hot…not sure if I could deal with that distraction in my household.

Scott i must say you are so damn impressed with your phone that you can’t put it down and keep showing people, my situation was also same when i touched this gadget for the very first time before 4 weeks.

Shoe, what a disappointment you and your iPhone story has been. You sure this isn’t a paid anti-Pre post?
I have the Pre and other than the lack of apps, it’s great.
July 2, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Geiger I really really really wanted the pre to be good. Trust me its costing us thousands in disconnect fees to leave sprint for At&t.
I had the pre for 3 days in addition to the iphone and my blackberry…
The web browser is better then most but not even close to the usability of safari on the iPhone.
The mail client I could not get to work right with imap on gmail and sync all my folders.
Storage – 8gb with no option for removeable storage?????
As a mp3 player its horrible…. HORRIBLE
No nike + integration
And there is much more… I am not anti-pre but I do have some built up frustration much like I felt with the first macosx (rhapsody) release when I was like “I WAITED EARS FOR THIS???” and I switched to a pc for the next 5 years until apple got their shit in order.
I really want to do a post about my personal experience with the pre but it will come off so super negative I will probably get sued =P
July 3, 2009 at 9:09 am
Shoe in recent times i have never ever seen your such long reply …lol
July 5, 2009 at 12:48 am
Several phones have come out in the past couple of years that have been labeled as “iPhone killers”, but the iPhone just refuses to go away. It’s not hard to imagine which phone is the best overall when other companies are constantly trying to go one up on it.
July 5, 2009 at 5:22 am
I have been using both for 10 days now myself. I love the iPhone for everything else, but the email is sooo much better on a BBerry. Not just Cut/Paste, I haven’t figured out a way to search for emails from a sender, etc. It also seems to lock up email for 30 secodns at a time, while the good ol Berry has never failed me.
I’d still use the iPhone because with my travels, it allows me to drop my iPod as a second device to lug around.
July 10, 2009 at 9:40 am
Maybe you should have given it more than 3 days. It took me a day or two to realize that some of the usability has a bit of a learning curve (not big), but turns out to be a huge step forward.
For instance, you say that the web browser doesn’t match the usability of iPhone’s? What’s different? They are both based on the same software. Palm’s Universal Search (I can call up wikipedia or google on any topic by just typing on the keyboard) is a game changer.
The mail client is one of the best parts of the Pre. It works fine for my hosted Gmail as well as my other accounts – brings them into all one in-box. I can literally manage my email better on the Pre than any desktop application or gmail itself. My friend said it best – “Gmail should work this way.”
I’ll give you that you can’t do video on the Pre yet. It also only has 8GB of storage. That should be enough for most people – a few movies – a lot of songs – pictures etc. Personally I’ve found that the Pandora application makes the mp3 player worthless.
What does the Pre have that the iPhone doesn’t? Let’s start with your two biggest concerns.
- Removable battery – a travel charger doesn’t help if you can’t find an outlet – just pop in a new battery.
- Keyboard – real keyboard is better than software one – real feedback
- Sprint Navigation – turn by turn directions integrated in all plans for free – AT&T charges an extra $10 a month.
This is all for a lower cost than what most people pay for the iPhone (you might be a special case with your weird business arrangement).
July 2, 2009 at 8:10 am
I’m in the market for a new phone and have been researching my fingers off – your post above shows some pretty compelling reasons why to invest in one. Thanks!
July 2, 2009 at 8:39 am
The quality of that photo is really gr8 , but I still of the notion that Blackberry is better than iphone .My doubts are only because of the long lasting of the phone that’s all .The touch pad is a real issue for sure in longer years .
July 2, 2009 at 9:04 am
Adorable pictures
Damn, I soo should get an iphone.

Nice review!
Why does TwitThis not use Twitter’s oAuth API? I’m not saying I can’t trust my password to them, but I’d be more comfortable if they use the api.

“I have gone around rural Nebraska and the AT&T coverage is as good as Sprints…. if not better to my surprise. ”
Unless something has changed in a few months I can’t believe your statement. You didn’t go out very far from Lincoln I bet. Try heading on Hwy 2 SE to City. No Service (at least in the fall it was no service) Still have my curve.
July 2, 2009 at 9:45 am
just got back from near grand island was totally fine… week before went to panama iowa. was totally fine.
July 2, 2009 at 9:52 am
Wow, I guess they have improved.
I was good in the City but once I headed N to Omaha or W to Lincoln it was bad. I suppose in 18 months I’ll look at it again.
July 2, 2009 at 12:18 pm
did you read the part about the new tower last fall that went active the first of this year
Its supposedly the most up to date fastest at&t tower in the world since its the newest.

God damn my Sprint contract! I usually pay my bill on direct debit and when I upped my SERO contract from $30 (everything included) to a Simply Everything so I could get the Instinct phone it doubled my bill! Then they gave me a $10 credit to my bill to try and keep me. Now come to find out ‘that credit was only good until January’ so now my bill is higher again and I’m stuck with it because they lied to me!
I am about ready to pay the stupid $200 early termination and get a phone that actually does what it promises. Sprint said the Instinct would have an app store when I bought it….HUGE LIE.
I’m so fed up right now I might cancel right now…but then again I’m also too lazy to call them again.
July 2, 2009 at 9:41 am
I made the switch to an Iphone i was hesitant due to i was used to my HTC with slide out keyboard but after making the change it was well worth it. You end up finding yourself using it more as a web browser, video, games etc.. then you do a phone. Even my wife drools over it and loves it (yes i got her one to) i would be surprised if the iphone doesn’t continue to gain market share thru the next few years.. its not a phone its a pocket computer.
July 2, 2009 at 10:51 am
My concern would not be whether the iphone would match up, but whether its competitors like the Blackberry could, which in my opinion the iphone is better because it holds more songs, and more movies. You made a good choice switching to the iphone.

THAT BEING SAID, a BlackBerry is a BlackBerry and an Apple is an Apple and there are STILL 10 Reasons why the iPhone is NO BlackBerry (we left a few in reserve the first time around) and why I’m still excited as all hell for the BlackBerry Bold to hit the market.

More and more people are switching to the iPhone. They’re switching from Palm and Windows Mobile and Blackberry smartphones to the iPhone.I too think that mobile me is a little pricey I’m thinking about waiting to see if it is actually worth the price and if google or microsoft will come out with something comparable but free. I wonder if MS will make their live mesh compatible with the iPhone I will have to look into it a little more as it seems kind of like Mobile me in a sense minus the push for iphone part:).

July 2, 2009 at 11:33 am
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I love the quality of the photos – and the video looks great. Good to know. Also, soon when Google Voice is released you won’t need to use your old voicemail transcription service thing because GV does it all.
July 2, 2009 at 11:43 am
Shoe- I must compliment you on this review. I have had a BB nearly 2 years now and read many iPhone reviews, they never made me “FEEL” like I needed to switch to the iPhone.
Your review actually outlined many of the things I too am interested in, and your review with the context and writing style actually makes me WANT an iPhone now.
Thank you!

Jeremy who is that lady in the white dress holding the little one, and howcome you never mentioned her before? That is one fantastic dress – have another look and envisage it as a strapless. Yowza yowza yowza!

July 3, 2009 at 2:26 am
Oh yes, sorry Jeremy I seemed to have missed that deal. Guess the photo captured my attention and I wasn’t as mesmerised by the text on this post…
Mazel-Tov though!
July 2, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Hi Jeremy,
Yes! the iphone is great. The only regret I have personally is not switching sooner. I used to have “The Wing” with Windows Mobile. Now when I turn on the Wing I want to throw it.
When you try and show anyone the iphone they don’t care. Someone that doesn’t have an iphone just doesn’t get it. However they seem to constantly critique and bash Apple on products they don’t even own. That one always gets me.
Glad you got the iphone. Check out the game called “Monster Pinball” my fav so far. AND I’m not a gamer. But when it’s time to chill or when you are waiting for your girlfriend to run into the market, break it out.
Glad you made the switch. I’m also following you on twitter now.
Thanks
Mark

Great punt for the iPhone 3GS, and I see you just couldn’t resist slipping in some more toenail stuff. Heheheh…I love it!
July 2, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Thanks for the review–this is really helpful. I actually ordered a 16 gig 3GS and am picking it up today, so finally I’ll have a “real” phone.
July 2, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Great article! I got my first iPhone for developing iPhone apps and quickly realized that if was a superior device by far when compared to the “phones” offered by Verizon.
Now the iPhone is my primary cellphone. With the new 3.0 OS it makes the iPhone untouchable with respect to features and applications. As a iPhone application developer I can tell you that the next generation of apps will blow your mind.
I even discovered that AT&T has great coverage where no one else did. We were hiking the Grand Canyon recently and only people with AT&T had coverage.
Enjoy your new iPhone. I’m sure you will be glad you made the move.
July 2, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Never had problems with ATT, they are pretty good… I have verizon now, which I think is better coverage wise almost everywhere… I just don’t like iphones… would be cool if it would have a keyboard..
July 2, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Great post Shoe,
I may just have to switch from Sprint!
You are a lucky man to have such a great family.
Have a great weekend!

Just curious, but is this why you implemented the wptouch theme for the site?
Either way, the theme is nice, and the iphone/ipod is a great mobile computer.
Have fun.
July 2, 2009 at 3:29 pm
yup one of the first things i did.
July 4, 2009 at 5:19 am
OK, I was wondering about that too. Your observation that your laptop is nearly redundant is the one that intrigues me the most. This mobile device is definitely turning out to be a tech swiss army knife.
July 2, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Iphone rocks! I am using smart phones for 6 years now, but when I got my hands on Iphone it was like a totally new world…
I sync calendar, google hosted mail, google docs, I even downloaded remote desktop. It is awesome. And there is so many apps coming every day…It really is an incredible piece of technology.
I was thinking a few days ago…what is the real reason Iphone is so successful.
For instance – it uses similar hardware as new Omnia HD.
But the real difference is in the way Iphone affects your life.
It saves time, it solves problems, it makes you feel good.
Another thing: I installed new software on many phones I owned – it was always a pain in the ass to do it…syncing contacts, data,….
With Iphone- it is simple. Thats it. And BTW…which phone company upgrades your firmware so many times? I mean…there are some really useful things with 3.0 software.
With my older phones i had to connect cables, find an application, find a crack that did’t work….and when i finally managed to install i found out that it sucked…
I can now install a new game when I am bored at dentist or anywhere i want…this is a totally diffrent concept.
I know there are a lot of people who dislike the iphone…but there is lot more to it than hardware which is what people usually compare…
July 3, 2009 at 12:08 am
I agree with your thoughts totally.

From the photo and the video that you have posted, the iPhone looks to be very good. But unfortunately the drawbacks in the phone still remains. I booked the Nokia N97 a few days back and am waiting to get it. I felt that it is much better than any other phones available because of 2 things – the memory and a few of the features that it has and the iPhone lacks.
July 2, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Video is better than I thought. nice.
July 2, 2009 at 9:12 pm
Welcome to the world of Apple. Enjoy the ride.
July 2, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Your post inspired me to get an iphone, though at times, i’m still baffled between getting an iphone or blackberry. A tough choice to make!
July 2, 2009 at 10:48 pm
I’ve tried the iPhone, Windows Mobile Phones (Tilt, Blackjack, etc.), Blackberry Curve, and the Blackberry Bold.
Yes, the iPhone is so much better than any of them up to the Curve, but the Blackberry Bold is a pretty tough contender.
The Bold won out over the iPhone for me because of the keyboard for sure. I have trouble with the iPhone’s virtual keyboard.
Even video and picture quality are pretty darn comparible to the iPhone.
July 4, 2009 at 3:08 am
yhea right.i also do the following comparison
iPhone: I have a user interface that people can easily understand and use. No more going through lots of menus and trying to access simple functions. Plus, I’m beautiful and people actually want me.
Windows Mobile: Uh…
iPhone: People stood in line to get me when I first showed up. How many stood in line to get you?
Windows Mobile: Uh…
iPhone: I have a real internet browser, not one won’t access most sites.
Windows Mobile: Look, I, uh…
iPhone: And widescreen movies look great on my higher resolution screen.
Windows Mobile: Enough. I’m going o home and wait for some mail to get pushed to me. Bwwwaaaa! Gates, why can’t you copy the iPhone like you did the Mac?

Shoe I made the switch to iPhone about four weeks ago & i am damn happy, so i hope it would be good move for you as well.

Damn, that is some good quality for a camera on a phone… thanks for posting this, love to see a honest review before I go and trade in my old iPhone.

nice review and great video, good share!
July 3, 2009 at 1:59 am
If you’re thinking about switching to the iPhone, at the top of your list of to-do’s should be “Check your service provider’s termination clause.”
July 3, 2009 at 2:29 am
…..But does the iPhone do ringtones LOL.
July 3, 2009 at 7:11 am
Very awaited review this. The picture is nice, a little bit on the brighter side. Though video was quite good but its not as good as the Flip HD.
July 3, 2009 at 7:56 am
All apple devices are in a different class of their own. Their makers have the notion of quality to a whole new level.
I am glad your experience with the iphone verifies this. What stops me from going all mac. is the cost…
July 3, 2009 at 8:41 am
Great review, can’t wait to get my own iphone
July 3, 2009 at 11:46 am
iPhone is a great choice, still waiting to hold one.
July 3, 2009 at 12:05 pm
I agree the image and the video are at good quality. They are good enough to use in internet marketing. As a phone it can be a great tool for our blogging activities – taking pictures and videos for our blog contents and promotions.
July 3, 2009 at 12:11 pm
That’s a hot nanny lol.

The only thing keeping me from the Iphone is the AT&T Network. I used to have them, but found when they joined Sprint everything went in the toliet. I have Verizon, and they are great but eventually I may have to get an Iphone.

July 3, 2009 at 7:59 pm
waited anxiously for the i phone, only to have it given off to my younger sis as i hated the way it functioned as a phone, was even ready to trade if for a blackberry….which i went and eventually purchased….ha ha ha now my sis wants to get rid if it too…..Seems like i phone has a way to make people hate it…..Blackberry boy roy …
1 feature that was really good on the i phone is that it is compatible with most apple products
July 3, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Iphone for me is one of the best phone i dont have it but my hubby was using iphone so i am able to use it also. The features of iphone was really great it just you were using pc or laptop in iphone. Thumbs up for iphone.
July 3, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I like the image of the photo and the video was pretty professional .I like them but I don’t like the price which is pretty high in my area.
thanks for the info.
p.s.
cute girls!

July 3, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Image quality and video recording quality of the iphones is wonderful. Its picture perfect.
The ability to sync with your calendar, address book, and bookmarks, as well as music and videos, comes close to making the iPhone a laptop replacement — all that’s needed is a full-sized external keyboard
July 7, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Certainly this one is really useful and if you are internet businessman than this handsets is must for you.
So go for it.

Wow!! I have been out of the US for so long I forgot how cell phones work over there. The really good thing I like about the Japanese cell phones is that there is so such thing as “airtime” and “rollover” minutes. Also everyone who has iphones (including me) in Japan can call each other free of charge for a monthly fee of 980 Yen. It is called the white plan here and only softbank has the contract offer for the iphone. I still largely think it is because softbank is part of Yahoo Japan and American Yahoo and Apple seem to be pretty tight…
Way off subject SM but can you use your superpowers (hehehe) no for real to stop the evil Brian Glick of Youtube… If I were a superhero I would put a stop to the madness..

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks a lot for sharing your iPhone experience.. I was confused whether to buy or not just because i read many horror stories on iphone but generally the buzz has been positive.. Great to know that the battery life is as good as that of a blackberry… And hey the camera quality is superb.. (And your baby’s cute
)
So thanks once more, I’m going for it!

hellows, admin
i have read your comparisons about the new i-phone that you are gnna switch to. i would suggest and i-phone can neva meet the business needs of your.. i would suggest you should buy a smart phone of nokia’s like e75 it has a real qwerty keyboard less risks of getting damaged 16 gig memory enough to keep your files n all… either that or nokia n97 a 48 gig memory will keep all your media files!!
July 4, 2009 at 1:29 am
Very good post. I think iphone is the best one for mobile users with technology behind them. I suggest you to go for the new phone. If you start enjoying it once you start working with its features. The picture and video quality is really good. However the concerns you mentioned are right. Comparably it is the best one. So go ahead and keep rocking…

nice post about iphone!
it’s very helpful and interesting.
by the way, nice blog!
full of useful information and fearless opinions from you. keep it up and more power! =)
July 4, 2009 at 3:02 am
I agree the picture and video are proffessional looking and have good clarity. But the price is a bit high for me, I like iphones though. They are really smart gadgets. Thanks for the information.
July 4, 2009 at 3:16 am
You very right: The iPhone has as many shortcomings as it has great features that are NOT available on other “smart” phones. For me, the killer feature is that I can take advantage of ALL it’s features on a Mac OR Windows PC. When a Windows mobile phone can do that, then we’ll be comparing APPLES to APPLES.

July 4, 2009 at 5:52 am
Nice family. Is this Jeremy’s family?
July 4, 2009 at 7:18 am
iPhone is the most expensive worthless phone dude.it took them 3 gens of iphone to include copy/paste WTF ?! .Go back to your previous phone or Buy a nokia instead they’re way better.
July 4, 2009 at 10:07 am
I’m not really an iPhone fan, but based on my friends who have them, it’s a great phone because it’s functional in their line of work.
By the ways, cute kids!
July 4, 2009 at 10:09 am
Wow. The quality is really amazing! That’s obviously not going to be one of my concerns. That’s for the post, got to learn a few things about the iPhone.
July 4, 2009 at 10:16 am
I love iPhone and though it is not the best in terms of picture and video quality, I totally trust Apple to make quality products. So I agree, the iPhone, though pricey is well worth it. Congratulations on your purchase!
July 4, 2009 at 11:00 am
Hi, basically I am not a phony girl but Your article inspired me to get an Iphone…I like the image of the photo and the video is also wonderfully taken, quite professional.(you must be a good photographer) I like them but I don’t like the price which is pretty high for me.I don’t think I am able to get a Iphone in next 2 months. But I will buy one once overcome my financial problem.I just can’t wait to get my own Iphone. hahahh
anyway,
thanks for the info.
July 4, 2009 at 11:50 am
I like the iphone for its versatility and quality. I have been using it for sometime now and after anyone has experienced any other phone will always seem like a downgrade.
Cheers!
July 4, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I would have love to become user of iPhone 3gs. But currently I can’t afford that I’ve to pay Uni fee aswel.
But iPhone is amazing. Very Quick with Smart Utilities.
July 4, 2009 at 5:52 pm
IMO, everyone should have this phone and it is VERY business worthy. I wonder how many people are switching to mac from PC now that the APPLE iphone is taking over.
July 4, 2009 at 6:37 pm
I just bought my IPhone last two weeks ago. I was expensive on my part, since I am still a student. But since, this is one of my biggest dream, hehe, to have an Iphone and I actually work hard for it. I also like how you post about the Iphones, its Usability about how you can watch a ripped movie in it. I still do not know how to put movies in my Iphone. I will search on it.
July 4, 2009 at 10:06 pm
First, your kids are so dang cute! Second – how much did Apple pay you to write this column?
July 4, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Seems to me that you turned into FULL IPHONE FAN. Yes we knew that you are mac lover but recently we discovered about your love to iPhone.
You described every point so beautifully. I do not think that any gadget guy can do this as well.
July 5, 2009 at 2:45 am
i had an i phone once but it can’t get a clear signal in my place so i decided to sell it.i’d prefer a pocket pc than i phone.
July 5, 2009 at 6:47 am
The iPhone is a great device, but not recommended to put in the washing machine on full spin. Which is what my 12 year old daughter did. Strangely enough, after it lying about for a couple of weeks it started working again! Must have dried out. Oh, and if thats a pic of a nanny then please send me the agency address!
July 5, 2009 at 12:14 pm
I like this phone very much… This blog is really helpful for me.. I learn so many things about Iphone from your blog… Thanks for share sucha information like this….thank you….
July 5, 2009 at 12:57 pm
The iPhone is a great device. Sure many can copy it but there are so many more apps its hard to compare.
Meanwhile, Shoe I’m sure that lady loves to be filmed touching your hammer toes!!!
July 5, 2009 at 1:29 pm
The ability to sync with your calendar, address book, and bookmarks, as well as music and videos, comes close to making the iPhone a laptop replacement — all that’s needed is a full-sized external keyboard..
July 6, 2009 at 1:32 am
yes unique feature is you can synch your iPhone or Ipod Touch calendar with the online Google Calendar.i like it very much.
July 5, 2009 at 2:22 pm
I’ll get one as soon as they unlock the damn thing–and support it. Until then, I’m quite happy with my contract-free, unlocked, GSM quad-band Palm Centro. For one, it’s tiny and can fit easily in my pocket. Also, I can use the thing all over the world. It’s surprising how few unlocked phones there are in the US. All the providers want to do is lock you into some contract. Most of the rest of the world doesn’t stand for this crap. Apple makes amazing products but they’re kind of techno-snobs in my opinion. The EFF has a sticker for this–”Defective By Design, No DRM” that they encourage you to put on any iPhones you see.
Sure, Palm doesn’t have all the newest latest and greatest apps around but they’re quite adequate for 99% of the things I would ever want to do with a phone–I don’t need a light saber emulator thank you very much!
July 5, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Correction: That’s actually the Free Software Foundation that runs the Defective By Design campaign–not the EFF. Slightly radical perhaps, but they have a long history in trying to protect the rights of people who can’t afford to pay Steve Jobs $3+ grand for a machine that runs on software that was maintained by volunteers for decades.

this is a really interesting blog! my friend recently got an iphone for her birthday and since then ive been toying with the idea of getting one myself. now ive read your blog i think i’ll go for it!
July 5, 2009 at 5:15 pm
I’ve stopped lugging around a separate iPod, phone and camera. I also subscribed to 6 gig plan which should give me plenty of bandwidth. Hope you enjoy yours as much as mine! Here are my thoughts on my favorite iPhone apps

I like the iphone because it is compatible with a software called fring.
July 6, 2009 at 12:33 am
Great blog sir. It is very interesting stuff.I really want an iPhone now!
July 6, 2009 at 5:03 am
Jeremy, it would’ve been nice to see a photo of the Shoemoney wedding gift. Can you at least bare and share with us what it is? Presumably not just a ring-tone.
July 6, 2009 at 6:25 am
Theses all information are very helpful for me to buy a iPhone.i plan to buy a iPhone but i am confuse about its futures.your post solve my many problems. Thanks…
July 6, 2009 at 6:38 am
i hope to get one very soon the video thing is great
July 6, 2009 at 6:49 am
It’s beyond me why people compare the iPhone to ’smartphones’. The iPhone is a smartphone. With regards to the others; some are good and some are bad.
CSS/js support and CPU speed vary drastically across phones.
July 6, 2009 at 6:55 am
I wanted the phone for the signal strength as I live in a place where I cannot get service.
July 6, 2009 at 8:34 am
Wow. I’m impressed. I’m also locked into a practically-brand-new contract with Sprint, so we’ll see how this all shakes out in two years.
July 6, 2009 at 9:34 pm
This is really helpful! I’ve been thinking about switching from Verizon, but kept holding out in hopes that Apple and Verizon would make a deal for the iPhone. I’ve always known I want one, but I never really knew how much I wanted one
10,000 pictures alone is almost reason enough for me to get one..I take TONS of pictures of my baby!
Thanks for a great article, and for making up my mind for me!

I hope that this is something that you enjoyed reading, and, of course, I hope that it did not offend you as an iPhone user, especially since I do not think the iPhone is stupid.

I love my 2G Iphone, now on OS 3.0 with MMS capability in my text messaging and everything. I’ve read your post about your review of your new Iphone and I agree with everything you’ve said.
my wife has a blackberry (she once had an iphone as well) but she didn’t like the iphone because it was too complicated??? she’s not as geeky as i am lol
but the iphone beated out her blackberry in everyway possible, just as you described. I cant see me without my Iphone. All my friends has an iphone and we’ll be like geeks and talk about our features and apps and what we do with it, plus show our pictures and everything.
i cant see life without an iphone now (well i dont really mean that, but that’s how good it is)
July 7, 2009 at 4:35 pm
I made that switch from Sprint to AT&T while grabbing the new iPhone 3GS about a month back and am extremely happy with the move.
Haven’t seen a problem in service; nor, have I been discontent with any element of the iPhone.
Actually, it’s been a rather large asset to my business and personal life.
July 8, 2009 at 8:41 pm
My youngest brother just got one and brought it to my cottage on his “vacation.” It was very impressive but many toys I don’t have time to play with. We did watch for a thunderstorm on Weather Channel and saved a drenching. Your post only enhanced my brother’s ravings about the iphone. I must admit it is a very nice toy and also does some serious work too. Thanks for the post.
July 9, 2009 at 4:28 pm
I like the way we could throw the menu bar on iPhone, that was so cool.
Compare to BlackBerry, iPhone is not such popular in my country anyway
July 11, 2009 at 6:09 pm
I have one week left on my 30 day trail with my Palm Pre-I like your review shoe but I like also the nerds review at PC World-He decided to keep his Pre after using both for 2 weeks in his daily bus and the one reason is the card feature and synergy that the pre has-also the qwerty KB-
Like he said he is keeping the pre and might get the I Touch for the apps-That is what I have to decide–
I am a little PO ed at the tethering BS from both Sprint and A T & T-Sprint says there everything plan does not cover tethering-BS I used my BB with Sprint on my LT and it worked fine now I find that you need a pin number to activate it–
A T & T says they might charge 60 $ for tethering
HELP !!!!
July 19, 2009 at 3:20 pm
AT&T has its problems but the iPhone is amazing so it clearly makes up for it.
July 31, 2009 at 5:39 am
I a gree with you AT&T it’s the problem
I really like IPhone 3G That Is awasome
July 21, 2009 at 7:16 am
I discussed with my brother who is using a 3g with AT&T and he said the coverage is good and data plan is not bad. So I thought of going his way.
July 29, 2009 at 1:26 pm
You joined the bandwagon!!
