Conferences this Summer & Fall I Am Going To

by Jeremy Schoemaker on June 16, 2009 · 67 comments

This will be the first year in the last 6 years I am not attending Search Engine Strategies, San Jose event. It really marks a end of a era for me. This was the first conference I ever attended and paid many years to send our entire team. Now, I feel the conference itself (other then networking) has very little value to me. Thats not to say it has no value to anyone… Just for me and where I am business wise the New York Affiliate Summit is a much better value.

Companies are pulling there money out of search and putting it into performance based marketing so for us its a no brainier to choose the Affiliate Summit East Conference.

Here are the events I will be attending:

July 10th Guy Kawasaki’s Revenue Boot Camp – Mountain View, California

Speaking on : Beyond CPM, Innovative Models for Generating Revenue Panel

August 9th – 11th Affiliate Summit East – New York, NY

Speaking on : Facebook Advertising

September 14-15, Techcrunch50 Conference – San Francisco, CA

September 17, 18, 19 DK’s ThinkTank (NOT A SEO EVENT) San Diego, CA

October 15,16,17 – BlogWorld Las Vegas, NV

We are also looking at having an Elite Retreat Event in October so stay tuned for that!

P.S.
SEO’s who are invited are totally welcome at the thinktank.
Last year Shoe called it the SEO thinktank, and I want to clarify that this year it is not ONLY for SEO’s. :)

The best thing about blogging in the US are these conferences. Very few of those happen here.

Are you still going to Affiliate Convention in Denver starting tomorrow?

The ThinkTank in Del Mar will be sweet. Not that I got an invite or anything, but I live about 15 minutes North of there in Oceanside and it will be beautiful in Sept. It’s a shame, you’ll have missed the horse racing season at Del Mar by about a week.

I thought you were sort of anti-SEO anyway? surprised that you’d been going to that conference.

I was really hoping you’d be at IzeaFest this year.

Was looking forward to meeting you.

Working so closely with Izea, it’s weird that you’re not gonna be there.

You have horrendous grammar. How can people take any advice you have for them seriously. You should take an English class at some community college somewhere. I am sure it would help.

Who recommends the Summit in NY for beginners? Or would you say it’s not worth it for us low ballers? :)

Maybe this is what us newbies need to put us over the hump!!

I know what you mean about SES – San Jose.

I sat on the “Black Hat PPC” forum at SES – New York and I was like “when is the black hat stuff going to begin?”

SES has become too “strategic” if that makes any sense for a conference entitled Search Engine STRATEGIES. But I feel at this point it is so high level — and so many of the slides in the presenters’ PowerPoint presentations have not been updated in so long — that it has become basically useless for real marketers (at least beyond total beginners).

Need something more tactical.

Thanks for posting.

You really need to get rid of that stupid popup about your emil course, is it a total pain in the ass and shows up on every single page here

I guess you have given us an advice. For many successful websites, blogs and brands, it is now better to focus more on performance based marketing than search engine strategies.

I agree with you in this case, because the search engine rules are always changing and it could not the only method for getting prospects and customers.

With that being said, SEO is still effective for some short period approaches and could generate a nice flow of traffic in the beginning.

Hope you will enjoy the other events and take the most out of them. We really look forward to hearing from you and getting your valuable tips and tricks.

Good Luck!

Hooshmand

Blogging is yet to become a profession in India, though there are signs of it already with small seminars and meetings being arranged by various blogging communities.
Am hoping to attend one such seminar like the ones that you have mentioned, in the next quarter.

This is the general trend and I think India is bit slow in this kind of act. Remember those pool table which started in most of the metropolitan cities before 6 – 8 years.

Many people from Western countries started this as business at there and later on many people copied it.

So for blog also … it will need a time. Although magazines and business news are broadcasting about blogs but however people are not taking it as in that manner.

There is this kind of lag evident in the South African market too, which is nice in a way, because it definitely gives one a decided edge when you can see international trends leading the way.

We can choose programs we need. Sometimes each program is suitable for one person but it is not useful for someone else. Before attending a program, we should be sure the relevance of the program and our purpose to join it.

This must be one of the biggest perks of the job. My father in law also travels around the world doing conferences/giving speeches (he’s in AI). I look forward to the day when I can get on this path as well. Not sure if hockey has enough of a following to allow me to get into the higher circles of the blogging world but I’ll keep working at it.
Enjoy you time at these events and think of us that would love to be joining you but need to keep at our day jobs a little while longer.
