AffStat Releases Key Affiliate Numbers

by Jeremy Schoemaker on June 15, 2009 · 38 comments

Over four-hundred and fifty affiliates were surveyed on their methods, preferences, and strategies for the 2009 Affiliate Summit AffStat Report.

The report features dozens of charts of data, based on the responses from the participating affiliates.

Also included, an uncensored view into the opinions of affiliates on a variety of other subjects.

Affiliates were asked to share any complaints, ideas, suggestions or opinions they have regarding affiliate marketing.

love graphs with information about online marketing. I would be interested to see what kind of numbers they have for the amount of people that have started affiliate marketing since the start of 2009.

Truthfully – I found this report so scattered, that the only thing I got from it… was that the IM industry and how affiliates do their jobs, is all over the place! :-)

Only a few of the questions produced a useful answer due to the large split of answers.

Too many answer choices…

I found it pretty easy to run through since it was 20+ pages of graphs. However it was funny that they ask how long you’ve been doing Affiliate Marketing at a conference. So the 1-2 year people were way down. of course I would’ve also expected the veteran numbers to fall off near the beginning since they have probably seen it all. A sign that its a competitive industry and you have to keep learning new tactics.

Can we have this in a downlaodable pdf? Nice information btw. Though the intial few pages dont really give any real info, since thats what peoples personal preferences are.

Affiliate managers should be very careful about how they use this info. It’s obvious from a couple of questions that almost all of this data was gathered from very small or small affiliates. (note the payment threshold and avg monthly earnings answers)

I think it looks pretty representative of a typical affiliate program if you look at the average monthly income – 17% making more than $20k, 12% making $5k to $20k, and the rest making less than $5k.

It depends how you run your affiliate programs.

In the years I was managing them, I was very reliant on the long tail.

surprised to see so many affiliates do not track their links… and so many more make under 600 a month..
i assumed most were like raking in thousands lol
hmmm

What I find remarkable is that they survey shows such a large percentage of very small affiliates (<$500/month gross, preferring payment thresholds of $25, not tracking, <20 domains), yet the survey was taken at/by the Affiliate Summit. I can't imagine someone making <$500/month from affiliate marketing going to a national conference about it.

The survey wasn’t taken at Affiliate Summit – it was entirely online.

I’ve been conducting the AffStat survey for years, but rebranded it as the Affiliate Summit AffStat Survey this year.
