If you were forced to choose one commercial Search Engine Optimization product that has had the biggest impact in the SEO world in the last 10 years what would it be?
I am guessing about anyone with a clue would say Text Link Ads.
Patrick Gavin launched Text Link Ads in 2001 and in 2007 the company was acquired by Media Whiz. Depending on which rumor you believe the deal went down anywhere from 25 to 65 million dollars.
Right out of the gate TLA was a massive game changer in the world of SEO. Now dominating search engine results became a lot easier for companies looking to push up their rankings. It worked very very well and search engines had no way possible to combat it. In May of 2007 Google threw up the white flag on algorithmically being able to detect paid links and asked for help from webmasters to narc on their friends.
Ever since Patrick Gavin sold text link ads people have been wondering what his next big thing was going to be. With TLA obviously he has set the bar pretty high.
Patrick recently pinged me about his new project DIYSEO. There is a HUGE need to service beginners and small businesses in their SEO efforts. And most of them are very shy to jump into the game because of the horror stories of fly by night “SEO experts” taking their money and either not delivering results or even delivering negative results.
Enter Patrick’s newest project DIYSEO (Do it yourself SEO). Gavin says “the product is primarily targeted towards small businesses who have little resources to put towards the web, including real estate agents, small car dealers, restaurants, and part-time entrepreneurs. But SEO is a crowded and competitive space and with the decline in the economy, SEO providers are all looking to provide cost-effective options for SMBs.”
There is not much on the site right now other then a email submit to be notified when the site launches…. which I am sure is getting a ton of submissions. You might want to check that out if you have not already
Twitter contest!!!!!
Right now DIYSEO is having a twitter contest giving away 3 brand new Amazon Kindles. Go here to enter.

DIYSEO is this the best thing that is going to happen for us. Well SEO is the most trickiest part of an internet marketer. I would prefer a Do it Yourself like solution to do my SEO. But all we have to do now is to wait until the launch.
It is a great information service that you are doing with posts like this. We learn a lot.

Entering the contest as well

Yeah we were suppose to get a text words ad going but we have been super busy here and haven’t found time to get it done.
June 1, 2009 at 10:31 am

It will be interesting to see what type of information will be on this site. There are already loads of free tools, blogs and information providers on SEO. You could always ready through Google’s webmaster guidelines.

I don’t think spoending money on SEO at this stage is agood idea as I know nothing about SEO.
Maybe it would be a good idea once I read a few articles and get my feet wet.

I’ve been wanting a Kindle for awhile now, so thanks for sharing this!
I like the idea of DIY SEO. SEO can be a little expensive for small businesses. I myself have done my own SEO for the past five years or so.
May 31, 2009 at 11:45 pm
this is good for almost every small business but they have been burned so much by “SEO” experts that its gonna be an upsell. unless of course, they see really good buzz coming from the chambers telling them to get it.
May 31, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Go Patrick! I am excited to see what you come up with!
May 31, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I wonder if this will be anything like LotusJump’s DIY SEO program.
May 31, 2009 at 8:06 am
What a load of crap. TLA got tons of sites slapped by Goog for selling links. Why do I even bother dropping in here anymore. Half of your posts are pure crap.
May 31, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Only Google can decide what they want to rank well or not well. Some people decide to buy links, while others (me
) don’t. Text Link Ads simply provided a service to those who chose to participate. Also, there is much more to links than SEO for Google, some people choose to buy links just for the traffic.

Nice buzz building, looks like a promising product. I was disappointed that the “under construction” page didn’t have any more info, but still added this one to my “check for info later” list
May 31, 2009 at 6:29 am
Thats some good news. I have a feeling it will be nice.
I got to check it out.

I’ll put my money money on a members 3 way link exchange and some cheesy “heard it all before” on the page stuff. Chuck in a couple of guides on article marketing and there you have DIYSEO
Anyone interested in DIY SEO just needs to read Aaron Wall’s SEO book and perhaps join up with his new site.

lol, I love this.. and hate it at the same time.. so, I guess I love to hate it.. There are a handfull of blogs that I check daily, this being one of them.. What I hate is all the “give me something and I will say whatever you want me to” posts on so many of the “big” blogs in this niche, but I am also a bit envious of people that have enough influence to make these types fo posts worth while, so.. good job on marketing yourself and shame on you for saying anything for a buck
May 30, 2009 at 10:50 pm
my work is done
May 31, 2009 at 5:40 am

June 2, 2009 at 7:33 am
Probably. It’s like the little guy vs google.
May 30, 2009 at 2:16 pm
As an SEO consultant I am excited about DIYSEO. The more educated small businesses become about “white hat” SEO and it’s money making benefits, the better it will be for all of us in the internet marketing industry.
