Every Marketer Should Buy P90X
Posted on: May 18th, 2009 by Jeremy Schoemaker
Got my wife the p90x workout system for mothers day….. Holy cow the marketing behind this thing is amazing… and not just the badass infomercial that earns your trust so you make the initial purchase… The entire system of upsells where you feel obligated to spend more cash. Its TRULY amazing!
and they pull it off VERY well. Its not sleazy at all.
Hi I am Jeremy Schoemaker and ShoeMoney.com is my blog. 99% of the post here are done by me but you will see others occasionally make guest posts. This blog is fun to write but for my day job I run several online companies.

you must hate your wife because p90x will kick your ass! i love the workout and the exercises but it is 55 minutes of pain
May 18, 2009 at 8:45 am
The workouts are awesome and the marketing is unbelievably good. Their actual cost of goods for the packaging and DVD’s can’t be more than $10-$15 and they sell the program for $120+.
They also manage to sneak in product plugs into the workout videos.
May 18, 2009 at 9:01 am
I’m in the fourth week right now and kicking my ass is an understatement! I’ve never really worked out regularly before, so its pretty intense. Already seeing serious results though.
Also I have to agree that the upsells are absolutely ingenius, but they’ve also created a great brand that spreads by word of mouth (e.g. this blog post) and is becoming an authority in their niche if it isn’t already
May 18, 2009 at 9:08 am
no pain no gain : )
May 18, 2009 at 9:20 am
Anybody that has the guts to buy a nutrition/workout product for their wife on mothers day deserves a pat on the back.
May 18, 2009 at 11:35 am
I completely agree. Might as well bought her a new vacuum and a cook set
May 18, 2009 at 9:24 am
Companies like Beach Body and Guthy-Renker have mastered the art of the upsell. Product+Offer+Value=$$$$
May 21, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Ha!
My wife asked me for a new watch, and I was like “What the frick, I just put a new clock above the stove”
(Boy I hope she doesnt read this)
May 18, 2009 at 10:08 am
Its funny you posted this, because my girlfriend bought this for me two weeks ago, and I just started it today. I usually work out 3-4 times a week in the gym, but this workout is intense. Im excited to see the results in 90 days. 2 suggestions to those starting this though: Make sure you have resistence bands and stick to the nutrition plan
May 18, 2009 at 10:43 am
The upsells are there but you can always skip. P90x has done wonders for me. Lost 10 pounds and 3 inches in 30 days and gained alot of strength from it.
They also offer a Coaching program where you can get 25% discounts off of Beachbody products. If you’re interested let me know!
May 18, 2009 at 10:45 am
I had been kicking around the idea of purchasing p90x. Thanks for the excuse. Just the kick in the pants I needed to bust out the credit card and order. I sure do hope you have affiliate relationship with them.
May 18, 2009 at 11:58 am
How much did the initial purchase cost you? I have been considering getting it but I always get bored of watching the commercial and change the channel before they say a price if they do at all.
May 18, 2009 at 12:36 pm
One of the most INTENSE workouts I have ever done in my life! That is definitely a great product for everyone to use.
May 18, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Did you sign up to be a Beach Body ‘Coach’?
May 18, 2009 at 1:24 pm
I’m really surprised I haven’t seen any offers for this product on the major networks. It’s all over TV.
May 18, 2009 at 2:13 pm
I have been doing P90X for a year now and it is intense. I signed up to be a Beachbody Coach and it is the way to go. The discounts and the opportunity to earn money on and offline is great.
May 18, 2009 at 2:20 pm
It looks like a great product but no for lazy people. Getting ripped in 90 days must take a lot of energy and time.
May 18, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Yeah, its pretty good… It works pretty good if you stay committed.
The only thing that was a surprise for me is that a copy that wasn’t even a full package sold for more on amazon than it was for a full package via thier website.
May 18, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I couldn’t agree with you more. The marketing is great and it backs up a great product.
I decided to give this a try and it has been kicking my ass for a week.
It isn’t anything more than what we learned in gym class or boot camp (for those that have been) but the way it is presented makes it successful.
May 18, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Yea, I bought P90X as well. That was my first infomercial purchase ever. The system does work well, just need the space to do the workout + need a pull up bar. The production value of the videos are top notch as well (at least for a work out video). Great example of marketing and providing a quality top rate product as well.
May 19, 2009 at 6:41 pm
funny thing, i never really purchased the product based on their marketing. It was WOM from a friend who insisted it was a great tool. If it was not for the results that I saw in my friend, I would have totally missed P90X.
May 18, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Hey, I used P90X and it works great. I never knew I could do pull ups. The marketing is a perfect 10 but that is easy cuz the damn thing really works! I give it ***** five stars.
May 18, 2009 at 4:52 pm
This blog post certainly adds more to it’s sales.
May 18, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Hahahahha… here we go again… What obsession for doing the life more difficult! American people is really strange… they enjoy hurting themselves and buying things that they really don’t need.
May 18, 2009 at 5:01 pm
This shouldn’t of been a every marketer should buy a P90X…that claim is quite ridiculous…
However it should have been “Every marketer should study the marketing of P90X”
I just wasted 2 mins of my life…Thanks Shoemeister! haha
May 18, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Or… you could grow a pair, eat right and exercise regularly and save yourself $219871241234/hour…
May 18, 2009 at 6:15 pm
How does p90 not fit into this? It doesn’t cost that much, and it gets you into the routine of exercising regularly…
May 19, 2009 at 8:53 am
congrats on dumbest comment of the day!
May 18, 2009 at 7:38 pm
hmmmm, this sounds bit interesting. thanks for promoting it on us
May 18, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Sucked in! Just exercise and stop eating mcdonalds and you’ll lose all the weight you want.
May 18, 2009 at 10:06 pm
As a wife/mother, I have to wonder what kind of reaction she had to that type of gift. I mean is she a really fit exercise nut and thought the world of you for getting this for her or is overweight and thinking you are a SOB for getting her this type of gift versus say … diamonds.
Anyway, I haven’t seen their infomercial but I will keep in mind that you thought highly of the product.
May 19, 2009 at 8:48 am
my wife isnt into material bs or trying to have a bigger ring then someone else.
Her accomplishments professionally speak a bit louder then any diamond.
May 18, 2009 at 10:09 pm
I LOVE P90X. The longest I’ve been able to really stick with it was about 40 days and it’s amazing.
I love it. I wish I had a partner (not my wife) that I could count on to do the workouts with. The 1 issue is it takes a full hour and half almost everyday.
May 18, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Great Cardio work out with yoga helps the fellow affiliate marketer. px90 shows you exactly how to get fit great post shoe. also instead of waisting money download the torrent dvd of px90 lol.
May 19, 2009 at 3:05 am
I know exactly what you mean…
i purchased the beach body video’s from the same guy in this one, and when I saw it I wanted to buy it…
The way they use his authority and the social proof from the testimonials are amazing…
If I could make my offers that sexy I would be a very happy man…

Exercise is one of the best way to keep you FIT and FIT always and P90x is sure shot option for keeping you FIT and Healthy.
FIT blogger can make FIT Blogging …lol
May 19, 2009 at 5:24 am
Workout!!!!
Good that the P90X is for your wife. I too would push my wife to exercise everyday and can preach about health and fitness. But you ask me to go jogging everyday and you will find that I am so busy that I do not even find time to preach.
All the best.
May 19, 2009 at 8:46 am
I dont have to preach at my wife… she wanted it lol
May 19, 2009 at 5:33 am
I’ve purchased a few things from that organization. You’re right. The marketing used is bananas! The way they compel you to purchase uspsell items is truly masterful. We could all learn a thing or two from their strategies. Tell your wife I said good luck with the workouts. I’m going to try it when I get finished with my Beachbody circuit.
May 19, 2009 at 7:08 am
Thanks Shoe
Would have thought you would have put an affiliate link in the post. What happened?
Sorry, just my sick Aussie sense of humor.
May 19, 2009 at 8:46 am
No thats actually a good point… I just been busy and forgot
May 19, 2009 at 7:34 am
What every marketer should do is study the way that Beachbody (producer/manufacturer) has used their multi-million dollar advertising approach to assist their independent Team Beachbody Coaches that sell the program. Not only does Beachbody advertise for its reps, but when people buy products like P90X, Beachbody turns over those customers to qualified Coaches providing them with a warm market for free. It is a completely unique business model.
Check it out. http://bit.ly/1508Yg

I don’t think they are allowing straight aff links in their program. It’s kind of a MLM / aff blend.
May 19, 2009 at 8:28 am
Actually every marketer should watch “Pitchmen” Wed. nights on Discovery Channel and then go ahead and order one of the products.
I was quite impressed with the upsells for a simple shoe insert
May 20, 2009 at 5:56 pm
I have seen an episode of this show and he was scared to hurt his hands or something.
May 19, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Well you don;t need any system to become fit, dedication is enough.
May 19, 2009 at 11:25 pm
True, but dedication with out knowledge is just failing from the start.
May 20, 2009 at 7:55 am
You hit it right on the button Michael. This is why lots of people fail at the gym. Its not because the gym or equipment is bad, its because they don’t know how to use it. Thats why I use P90X and other Beachbody products. All I have to do is throw in the DVD and follow it.
May 19, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I’m a weight loss surgeon, so I figure I’d better walk the walk before telling my patients what to do. I’ve done P90X on-and-off for the last year and could NOT be happier with the results! The diet is geared toward men, but the recipes are good and the workouts are wonderful muscle builders. The upsell when buying the DVDs…..almost got my Macbook Pro tossed across the room in frustration. Will buy future DVDs off Ebay to avoid 6 screens of upsell
May 20, 2009 at 9:35 am
There’s nothing better than a good cuality exercise and not have to be on the gym you can run practice soccer, basketball, boxing, also eat just 3 times per day and cuality food as well and you will see good result believe me I did it and I´m really proud about my results
May 20, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Seems to me that they are really famous just saw their websites and they are getting good traffic. So many people would love to get the perfect body.
May 22, 2009 at 11:01 am
I’ve lost over 50 pounds within the last year using P90X. It is *ultra-intense* and you need to be very dedicated with the diet/nutrition program as well.
While they don’t have an affiliate program, they do have a business opportunity that is cheap to join — pays you commissions on retail orders your refer to them, plus allows you to buy at wholesale and also build a downline structure. I just made a post about it here:
http://www.fatlossblogger.com/p90x-affiliate-program/
May 23, 2009 at 12:20 am
P90X is no joke. I’ve worked out for years with a trainer and it still rocked me.
I always felt like video training was lame. Not anymore.
May 23, 2009 at 4:09 am
I can’t believe I actually purchased a “AS SEEN ON TV” item 2 days ago.
Well, my wife bought the “SMOOTH AWAY” for me because I don’t like shaving as it gets my hair to grow out quicker and thicker. lol.
That crap doesn’t really work…
-Mike
May 27, 2009 at 8:16 am
The commercial looks like you are using sandpaper to remove the hair. What exactly is on the pad?
May 24, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Looks interesting, and the site has got quite a bit of buy-in. But if you want to loose some pounds then it Patrick Holfords low GL diet. I been loosing 4 pounds for the last 10 months and I am eating 5 times as much.
May 26, 2009 at 9:14 pm
This would be my second marketing hit today on P90X (the first was Courtney Cox claiming that it kicked her butt). I think someone’s trying to give me a sign – or it’s just wicked marketing.
May 26, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Beachbody is pretty amazing. They are great at marketing and make great products. I completed P90X at the end of March and loved the program. P90X kicked my butt and my results are fantastic. Love my toned, lean arms!
May 27, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Yep, I bought TurboJam (which is from the same family as the P90x) and their marketing/upselling is definitely formidable. Thankfully, their products are good to boot!
June 1, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Yeah the P90X is pretty hard core.. most people end up giving up but if you do complete it or stick with it for awhile you will def. see results!
June 25, 2009 at 9:10 am
SOS…….HELP ME!!!
Help me, my friends.
Days ago, I see this site http://www.dvdpowerseller.com , It looks so wonderful.
I had compared it with ebay, exactly it is much more cheaper. They say it’s just because the ebay has more
limitations and more fees. I’m considering becoming their customer? But I’m worried about the quality and the
service.
My dear online shopping experts, could you help me to distinguish it?
Thank you very much.
June 25, 2009 at 10:55 am
Be careful about buying Beachbody products from auction sites and such. You often don’t get all the pieces and parts, or the DVDs don’t work right. It’s usually illegal. I wrote about this on my blog:
http://livefitnessnow.com/buy-p90x-on-ebay-at-a-discount/
And, for all you P90X’ers who want a new challenge, get ready for INSANITY with Shaun T! This will really push your body to the limit! Check out this video preview…coming in July. Get ready.

Cheers!

P90X has been kicking my butt for over 2 years, it’s definitely the way to go if you want to get in shape and workout at home.
October 23, 2009 at 1:59 am
I have to agree. I purchased this a while ago and the marketing these guy do once you are in the funnel is great. Plus I lost weight with it. It really kicks your butt into shape.
October 30, 2009 at 1:23 am
Is it so good of P90X? Thank you, I will try…
November 1, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Man P90x is great but you need to give Insanity a try. Its the most insane workout I have ever done in my life. I actually am a Coach with Brad as my sponsor…
November 12, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Just a quick update… I am really starting to feel good about how in shape I am.Insanity is kicking my butt..
November 18, 2009 at 10:18 am
P90X is awesome! really a good workout. I recently combined P90X with the new Insanity workout.
November 21, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I think after a couple of bouts with P90X, I think I’ll try insanity too…This stuff gets addicting for people who enjoy challenges!
December 1, 2009 at 10:40 pm
there really is a lot of value in the beachbody products. the average person can’t afford a personal trainer but they can afford the beachbody fitness programs. IMHO you get a better workout than with a trainer – there’s less chit-chat and no waiting for machines.
January 2, 2010 at 12:44 pm
Its a new year and time for the Insanity Workout with Shaun T.
