I been so frickin busy lately this took way longer then it should have. I also am going to have a intro made and some other stuff. I actually meant to do a couple reviews but then had to go to adtech and well only had time for one.
I am going to to try to make this a weekly thing if people enjoy them.
Hi I am Jeremy Schoemaker and ShoeMoney.com is my blog. 99% of the post here are done by me but you will see others occasionally make guest posts. This blog is fun to write but for my day job I run several online companies.
Hey Jeremy,
I never knew you were doing website reviews as well. It would be valuable to get a website reviewed by an expert like that of Jeremy Schoemaker.
That was an AWESOME video! My site has the potential of achieving all three, but it’s still in the the beginning stages. I will have to work on my landing page…or maybe outsourcing it. And again, great video!
I think that your website has a few errors – Top ShoemMoney.com Commentators. The first one is easy to spot, but the second one “Commentator,” – incorrect word usage unless you’re trying to butter up your readership (and I wouldn’t put that past you
Dude! It doesn’t matter to me man…as long as I understand what he is saying…it’s all gravy. And plus, it’s not a grammar blog…so who effin cares…except for the grammar police!
I like the review…there is some really great advice in it.
If I may add my own observations for desktopnexus.com.
This is one of the best wallpapaer sites that I came across! I like the autodetect/ autoresize features and the community feeling.
What could be improved:
The detail view for each wallpaper is a bit confusing to me: There are two buttons that trigger download (enlarge wallpaper and download now) but when I click on image nothing happens.
I would expect I can download image by clicking on it, but I have to figure out how to do it.
Next thing that could be a super feature is to add dual monitor resolution images.
Many internet marketers use dual desktops and I ve been searching for wallpapers of this size for quite some time.
Anyway – I like your site, and I am definetely going to recommend it.
I don’t know what you have been doing differently but I am no longer able to watch your videos from work. I know YouTube is blocked but not sure that it is where you uploaded this video to. It is just a big blank area like my firewall is blocking it or something.
I think it’s more that SEO is only one approach. There are plenty of ways of making money online through web traffic; getting retarded about SEO is one of them.
It’s not that SEO DOESN’T matter, it’s that it doesn’t HAVE to matter. Being brand-focused is an approach that’s potentially even more lucrative, though I’d argue it’s a hella long game.
SEO and branding aren’t mutually exclusive. Tell Wikipedia to stop doing SEO (ie. creating automatic internal links), and watch as their traffic dwindles.
If your site is being indexed by Google, why wouldn’t yo do SEO? Do you like to throw traffic down the drain?
Guys, sorry, but my english isnt my native language. Could someone explain too me, what exactly does it mean when shoemoney say “go virroul?” the third step, sorry for bad spelling.
Great review, great points. When I looked at the site I thought it was perfect but then listened to your review and it does make sense. Will need to apply showing the number to my site, I agree that it is a good thing to show some stats…
Simple methods that make so much sense!
I know these suggestions work, because when I’m surfing, that’s exactly how I act- I just never realized it before.
Please DON’T review my site… I got work to do first
This is truly a different approach to building a better website. Moving the importance of the assets of the website and creating that social proof is a biggie.
Yeah, spot on assessment. I hope they can stomach the revenue hit to grow their brand. The positioning of the contextual ads hit me as sort of “junky” as soon as saw it.
I also loved this review and I love hearing for the experts
It is always great to get the opinion of someone who knows what the hell they are talking about.
I enjoy these website reviews. That said I liked the last one better. This one seemed incredibly scripted, just based off the tone of your voice. Your off the top of your head self is much more engaging, and as a viewer teaches me a lot more.
Very Professional tips Shoe. You have explained in a very simple way 3 steps any blog or website should have in order to go viral on the Internet. After listening to video one can surely say that SEO is not everything if you need to have Traffic on your Website or Blog.
I am honoured to know that market leverage is sponsoring your show. All the very best for your upcoming reviews.
Nice review ! These advices are definitely promoting site brand building, not monetizing. This is a basic problem, monetizing against user experience and brand building for the future. In my opinion DesktopNexus.com guys should consider their business model and if they can monetize greater their service in future. You have to monetize in some moment, or…
I don’t agree that SEO is not important. Right SEO is very important for getting new members, too. Of course quality service FIRST !!

Way to drop some “shoeology” on us. If you could please explain more on what you meant by virality.
April 24, 2009 at 7:38 am
Hey Shoe,
Great feedback on that site, I’d really like to see them go along with the changes you suggested.
Definitely keep this going!
April 23, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Your constant SEO jabs are ripping the heart out of America.
Good video though. Giving people free consulting that’s actually useful is the type of thing many won’t do.
April 24, 2009 at 9:13 pm
i agree with will he is right
May 13, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Shoe is diffidently right! He is where he is at because of his passed failures and successes he had to learn from.
April 22, 2009 at 11:43 pm

I actually like commentator
but the other nice catch weird nobody ever said anything before
April 23, 2009 at 1:52 am
Probably nobody said anything before Jeremy because we’re all so used to your spelling by now.
=P

Maybe SEO is not so important if the content or usefulness of the site is great. But SEO can accelerate the road toward the successful.
Sure, many SEO fans overestimate it, but ranking well in the search engines is definitely an advantage.
April 23, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Well if you have good content and you use some white hat SEO than this can do wonder to your traffic.
If you are a professional than I am sure you would plan to use both of them.
April 24, 2009 at 9:16 pm
you are so right by getting ranked well in the search engines is the key to having an advantage of everyone else
April 22, 2009 at 5:27 pm
I actually like the review, but I have a hard time seeing through to the content because of the choppy editing.
You gotta make that more seamless, bro.
Oh, dude, how much of their shit can they really move up to the top?
April 23, 2009 at 1:56 am
I love the snappy editing, especially towards the end. Shoe was beginning to sound a bit like Christopher Walken and that’s always a good thing.
April 22, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Good info and insights on optimizing the production of a website!
I like even more cause there’s no “filler” talk..
I’m no that patient.

Seo is very important part of online business. It is really weird to heard about unimportance of seo.

April 26, 2009 at 4:16 pm
The internal linking that Wikipedia does is also about good usability. If you do SEO purely for SEO’s sake then it can backfire.
April 24, 2009 at 9:20 pm
i agree with your standpoint as well because to me seo is the best way to get your site seen
April 22, 2009 at 9:06 am
I am loving the video reviews. I recently added video reviews to MR and they seem to be doing well.
Do you always use YouTube to host your videos Shoe?
–Chubbs
April 22, 2009 at 10:56 am
usually I use our own video system but because I was so strapped for time I just went to youtube
April 22, 2009 at 11:22 am
A custom made system or something off the shelf that you modified to work for you?
April 22, 2009 at 9:00 am
Awesome review, and they were quick to take action!
April 22, 2009 at 8:01 am
I watch your video review……and take some ponints, very useful, thanks shoe…

April 22, 2009 at 10:57 am
A site going viral is basically when it spreads without you having to to incentivize people to use it.
Usually this happens because people recommend the site to their friends.
April 22, 2009 at 7:38 am
I think they have seen your review
All the ads are gone now, the top right ads just left an empty gray box..
Great review BTW!
April 22, 2009 at 7:34 am
love the review, cant wait for the next review, thx
April 22, 2009 at 3:38 am

April 24, 2009 at 9:23 pm
so when is your next review lol i want to see the next one as well
April 22, 2009 at 3:20 am
How to apply to get your site reviewed?
April 22, 2009 at 2:44 am
Awesome review. Liked the fact that this website was at least on the right track – just needed a few helpful suggestions.
It’s sort of tough to review a blog that really has no clue what they’re doing, and the review basically comes down to “start over.”
April 22, 2009 at 2:16 am
Great review. Short, to the point and right on the mark….They should make those changes….like NOW…
April 22, 2009 at 2:07 am
thank for make these videos are funny and necesaries

April 21, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Love the Ask-A-Ninga cuts hehe.
April 21, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Great tip about social proof by displaying site activity.
April 21, 2009 at 7:22 pm

I definitely support the website review videos!
Feel free to review my site if it’s worthwhile for the majority of your viewers.
April 21, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Hey Jeremy can you review DevHub.com? They claim in have monetization and site publishing all figured out.
Love the segments BTW.
April 21, 2009 at 6:31 pm
I love this segment. I’d like to see more of it!
April 21, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. As always – your reviews rock.
Thanks!

I enjoyed this review. I love hearing “the experts” ideas on what to do with a site. Instead of just being critical, the suggestions are priceless!

and I love how you move those component around to make it a better site. Love the site template too.
