I love april fools. As I have writtin about many times. Each time about 2 weeks before the event talking about how excited I am for it and how I can barely contain myself.
This year I have a pretty good one setup. Not sure it will be as successful as last years (which is one of the most linked to posts and most views of youtube of anything else I did in 2008).
Basically All I did was make a video titled how to make 1,000 an hour and then muxed up the audio so people could not hear what I was saying….. I got a TON of email and messages about how the audio was broken and they needed to hear it!
I am also still waiting on some things to come together for this years April fools post to be SUPER AWESOME (in my mind). So I might have to goto plan b if things don’t work out but I have a few things in the can.

April fools is THE BEST DAY to get free links. I have been doing it for years and its been great.
But beyond the links it gives you a NEW audience that has probably never seen your blog before. These people turn into RSS subscribers, Newsletter readers, Twitter followers.
Also people always bitch because I post it before midninght pacific time. Guess what… when its April Fools Day in Kiritimati (UTC +14) then its April Fools Day!
Its your stage. Show the world how creative you are.

I’ve got to give it you shoe, they are usually pretty good. The one with the youtube video was great because I actually fell for it thinking that you had finally given in and we are about to push some affiliate product.
Didnt understand what was happening for like 5 mins which is what makes a A great April fools day joke great.
I agree, if done right you can easily see a large spike in almost everything. What is people get upset and slander you online?

I believe you, I was due to be born on April Fools Day. My older sisters’ name is April, the story is told that I was no one’s fool even before I was born and because I heard they were going to call me April’s Little Fool, I waited until the 5th to make my grand entrance.

We’ve been doing April fools stories the past 5 or 6 years and it’s always a good time. Last year April 1 turned out to be our highest traffic day of the year too. But most importantly, it’s always a good time.
That old video is by far the funniest thing I’ve seen all week, knowing the story behind it anyways.

Thats stupid. You could have made a fake “make 1000 in an hour” video any day of the year — and it would still have got backlinks.
It’s not like people think “oh, it’s april fools day — its a joke” — people still would have thought you’r a dik. So you could be a dik any day of the year.

April Fool’s Day has been around since at least 1582. That’s when France changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian. Before that time, the New Year was celebrated for eight days, leading up to April 1. But when the Gregorian calendar became official, New Year’s Day became January 1.

I have sailed to Kiribati! and stayed for about 3 days, it’s a magical spot on earth, and some of the warmest and kind people you will ever meet.
I highly suggest anyone who can Sail – take a stop while crossing the South Pacific – you won’t be disappointing!
The other thing I like about April Fools day is that it usually means that the really cold weather is over, for a couple of months.
