Kizzog – Easy To Setup Kid Blogs

by Jeremy Schoemaker on March 10, 2009 · 45 comments

One of my oldest intarweb friend Stuart McHenry has started a new service called Kizzog.   The service gives you a super easy way to setup a blog for your kid.

Looks pretty good.  Has tons of themes and easy plug and play image upload that automatically inserts the images in the themes.

The cost is $49 per year and but that includes hosting, themes, and domain name cost.  Not bad!

I set up one of my daughter Juliet in a few minutes:

You can check it out here

If you have a kid and want to start chronicling memories signup for Kizzog here

How old is your daughter now?

Mine turns 2 in April. And it doesn’t matter what kind of mood I’m in, whenever I see her, it always makes my day so much better.

This looks like an awesome deal. I might try it, at least so my family can see what’s going on in her life.

Yeah makes your tough day all worth while right?

That looks really good. When I have a son/daughter, I will definitely look into something like this :)

I think this kid blog is a great idea. Parents can easily organize pictures of their children’s life without spending tons of money on scrapbooking arts and crafts.

P.S. Your daughter should be the next American Idol!

Dude…ok, I just spent like 15 minutes looking at those blogs and that site. They’re pretty cute.

Positives – This is a great service for children, I can get my little sister involved.

Negatives – I hope this doesn’t attract any of those “creeps” if you know what i mean.

I was thinking the same thing… they need to be able to watch who is watching these blogs otherwise it might turn very out to be a predator playground. I hate that some pervs have to ruin this creative idea because it seems like it would be a fun way for kids to learn about the internet.

This is really good idea, but agree with Joe, too many internet “creeps” out there which would probably want my young child (when the time comes) offline and doing something else…I guess the days of being active and outside are slowly disappearing with new and innovative products like this to get kids online at even younger ages.

I wonder if they come with a password protection. Having randoms follow your child’s blog can get weird.

Reply

11 Jonny Nedermyer March 10, 2009 at 12:25 pm

On their website it says “Security, allow access to all or restrict access via password”

12 Mr. School Fundraising Ideas March 13, 2009 at 7:33 am

So your kid decides who they allow on their blog? hmmm that might work, if the parent can do the same, by that I mean pays attention to what their kids do online.

kinda cool i guess… will this be the new myspace? or facebook?… wait in this business model he is charging $49…. Thinking of price points I would probably have went with $19.99… but that’s just me

The domain name is around $10, and they do have to cover marketing costs + other things as server bandwidth, so I consider it a good price.

Or use wordpress or blogger for free.

Its a great idea. There are many kid bloggers nowadays. It would be useful for them

I would really be concerned about security for these blogs because like others have said there are a lot of strange people around on the internet and I wouldn’t want them following my kids lives. It seems like this website would attract wierdos from all over.

18 Andrew Phillips March 10, 2009 at 3:34 pm

This is a great idea!!! Think how cool it would be to have your kids information in an online diary.

Plus for all those people that are afraid of the weirdos, all you need to do is password protect the website and only give the password to firends and family.

Love this idea and shoemoney has a great little singer on his hands. Watch out American Idol 2024.

Thanks Shoe,
I going to make a nice site for my son Thomas.

Shoemoney, I would recommend immediately taking down the blog about your daughter. I took one look at the site and immediately thought “predator”. I do not think there is any place for kids and blogs. It’s simply too dangerous, plain and simple.

21 ZK@Internet Marketing Blog March 11, 2009 at 3:15 am

Well what is dangerous about that … will you please tell us in more details …

If you are curious than you can allow membership to this and only family member or friends can see this one.

I couldn’t put my kid out there like that. password protected maybe but not wide open

Reply

23 Rick March 10, 2009 at 8:22 pm

I’m a little conflicted about this one… not sure if I’d put my kid out there for all to see. But for those that want to do it, the service seems really tight.

Wow this is something a great Idea … you just have to advertise on those maternity hospitals or kids schools or you can tie up with them as well …

Sounding great … and $49 is not at all costly as well … but they should also come up with the 5 years plan as well.

I will think about this model … will modify it …

Shoe, I agree with the above posters who are telling you to be cautious . Everyone on the planet has seen you holding your G check, and yes, there are would-be kidnappers out there.

Remember you mentioning how people harassed the dentist after your local ads post? You have a big audience. Some wierdos are bound to be jealous.

I enjoyed the webinar chat last night. Thanks,
And hey, thanks for menti0oning that you had looked at every commenter’s sites…that means me too !

and really…don’t let your family become a target. Advice form a middle age Mom.

This is awesome. Kids are the fastest learners and should get going as soon as they can learning how to use and navigate through appropriate parts of the internet. Blogging can be a great way for people to share ideas, no matter what age they are.

Great idea to preserve those special moments in child’s life – instead of searching for misplaced photos that never made it into an album/scrapbook…

What is up with kids all of a sudden? Especially with technology, this just reminds me of the new HP/camera commercials.

I get a bad feeling with this kid blog thing though… I do think it is a great idea but… it needs to be closely watched so no “Michael Jackson” incidents happen.

Smart to form a niche for kid bloggers, but blogspot and other free platforms could do pretty much the same, but with more features.

The idea with kid blogging is good and has the right to exist but must be used carefully.

That is a wonderful thing you have done for your daughter! Kids can pickup how to use a computer pretty quickly. This is better than having them watch cartoons. Imagine a child replying to peoples’ comments on her blog.

For kids, having a blog is probably be the best way, because it is fast, easy, and also teaches them the value of direct marketing.

I’m with game-girl, this is definitely something you want to approach with caution. A good idea though!
