What A Day For America

by Jeremy Schoemaker on January 20, 2009 · 114 comments

Today a young man, who’s father abandon him when he was a young boy, who’s hippy mother takes him into Indonesia and into in harms way as a young man, who’s grandparents raise him as a youth and adolescent , who busted his ass and did it all himself, will be sworn in as our President today.

Such a great American story.

God Bless America.

You make a good point James.

Would it really be different if he was white?
Would it really be different if there was no economic crisis?
Would it be different if there was no wars and terrorism?

Obama alone, is not able to change much, he can lead us into change. But that is totally up to is, if we are willing to get up and do something.

Not sit around and complain.

I think the fact here is that Obama accomplished something impossible according to American history. Note the fact that majority of voters are still white people.

White people voted for Obama, not black people or anyone else.

He won’t crash because he’s got more supporters than Tiger Woods. :)

Shoe,
Yes, for someone to come from that background and become the president is impressive and yes it is a great country, but to think that he did it all himself is not realistic. Just read Outliers by Malcom Gladwell and it talks about the story behind the story of success, sometimes circumstances are more important than self reliance.

Yes Obama may be proof that you can attain to any degree that which you desire in America.

The true measure will come after he is in the job role and the work has to start. It will come from how he runs this great country. Not from what he has done in his past to get to where he is now.

And with so much more focus simply given the situation and this country’s desperate desire for huge change given economy, Iraq and everything – I hope he lives up to be everything he promised and everything those desiring this change wanted….because if not, and mark my words, this country and the world will suffer much more. Already in a battered state, with high hopes and a lust for change – it won’t take much faltering to crush a million dreams hinged on one man and his will to attain this position of power.

I don’t know how people have such a faith in one man like you and me. He will do exactly the same as people with power do or politicians do. He said a lot of good things and he will complete nearly half of what he said. Then after a couple of years people will hate him and will look for a change. Same old story.

Reply

55 tom January 20, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Ok I have two things to add.

1. Hope – what hope has Obama given us? By telling us we need change or we need to come together, etc. It’s all words

2. Expectations. Sure he is president but he can’t make everything happen. Are you doing to sit and expect others to do the work and make a change?
So you expect Obama to do something while you sit and do nothing?

People seem to be very delusional about this whole thing.

My major concern and prayer is that he succeeds, not for his sake, but for the sake of the rest of us. America, now more than ever, needs to overcome the present economic situations. We hope the new administration is able to, and soon!

Not all presidents are created equal. He’s fulfilled a dream, and a peoples dream at that, but can he inspire change beyond the podium ?

Are Americans held captive by a man of eloquent parables, aligned with a dream that permeates our sense of union in the face of terrorism ?

Can Obama truly address the needs of a nation financially at war with itself ?

There will be no easy fix. But hey, that’s tomorrow. May our deities of choice bless us one and all !

Happy Obama day :)

His inauguration speech was weak IMO. I took note of the part that said “The question isn’t whether or not government is too big or too small, but does it work?”

This is completely stupid. We know government doesn’t work. Both parties suck ass!

Since it has gotten larger, it has gone downhill dramatically.

Limited government and a rejection of the two major parties = the key to real change and success.

and even back in the Reagan era when the Lame Stram Media was the Main Stream Media and actually was semi-unbiased…., Regan said “You know, if I listened to Michael Dukakis long enough, I would be convinced we’re in an economic downturn and people are homeless and going without food and medical attention and that we’ve got to do something about the unemployed”

This is how my life was for a few weeks after watch that movie and others.

What I did instead was take that knowledge and bunch more and made my own conclusions.

Conclusion?
You need to first change your own life before you change the lives of others and the world.

I am glad you bring this up because I just realized something very important.

Not everything that others say is true, especially those who claim to know it.

Take David Icke for example. I got great inspiration for him but to change myself. However, as I kept listening to his talks and reading his books, I still felt at fear.

And then it hit me, sure he is exposing the truth but his main drive or the fuel for his fire is fear. That’s right he get’s people hooked to him by fear and keeps them in fear.
if you ask me, you ain’t solving a problem by keeping people in your illusion (so to speak).
What i learned, listen to what others say but also question the motive they hold and take what you want from it and move on and make your own conclusions.
