Affiliate Summit West 2009 – Amazing

by Jeremy Schoemaker on January 17, 2009 · 67 comments

Just getting back from Affiliate Summit West 2009.  What a great conference.   One of the best I have ever attended.

The Facebook advertising panel was great. Alex Schultz from facebook did an amazing job. Zac wrote a summary here.

The one point from the panel that I tried to get across to all audience members was that there is a HUGE market imbalance right now advertising on Facebook. If you are willing to put in the time and educate yourself you can do very well.

If you wait until the documentation is perfect and the ad approval system is perfect the market will have corrected itself by that time and you missed the boat.

COPEAC PARTY WAS OFF THE CHART

Ive been to probably 150 parties in the last 6 years at conferences and this was the bomb on so many levels.

1) Drinks were plenty. There was several open bars so it wasnt like the normal private parties where you spend all your time waiting to get 2 drinks.

2) Music was hot but not too loud.  Another big problem with parties is you cant talk… sucks…

3) Lots of ladies – whether your on the prowl or a humble married man like myself its nice to not have the normal sausage fest.

Awesome job copeac.

Everyone go signup with them now.  You don’t want to miss the next event…. trust me…

I have uploaded all of my pics in the photo gallery.

I would, if they would approve me.

They dont seem to crazy about newbies in the AF market nowadays.

I know what you mean about newbvies., but Copeac accepted me in the first 24 hours of applying.

Unfortunately, Copeac also has this new thing where they only give high volume affiliates and people they’ve met the best offers.

You’re welcome, in advance.

8 Tushar January 17, 2009 at 6:10 pm

Losers don’t usually write Thank You comments now, do they?

9 The Poker Jerk January 17, 2009 at 7:16 pm

You can let me know when you lose, loser!

I looked at all the entries.. Shoe asked for unique funny ones, and got exactly one such entry :)

10 Tushar January 17, 2009 at 6:11 pm

Meh, I probably won’t win, but it’s still very exciting to even have a chance at winning.

Kind of like the lottery.

11 WOMWON January 17, 2009 at 7:19 pm

Not just you though. Only one person can win it. So there’s a whole lot of people not winning.

Agree with you,not many people advertise with facebook yet. At least not as much as adwords does.

Yea, I have been noticing that Facebook is starting to display more ads. They also have banner ads now, but we can’t put them on.

Jeremy,

Your Facebook panel with Zac and Alex was informative and lively. It was good to hear that Alex was sincere in addressing the feedback from Affiliates regarding approval anomalies.

It was great that you spent some time visiting with me after your panel.

Respectfully,

Thanks for the posts Shoe and Zac. We’ll see how much progress we make by next year but I am feeling pretty confident. The feedback from all the affiliates at this conference to all 7 of us means that there is a much broader base of people inside Facebook that now understand the community and want to make it work and I’ve already seen that in action in the ads product meetings that happened last week. That being said I am sure we will still make mistakes so please stay with us as we grow into a large company. Looking forward to seeing you and the elite retreat folks here soon.

Looks/sounds like it was a great panel and it looks like Alex and team are on top of things. Hopefully they take the concerns and complaints to heart and open the networks to a bit more of the mass market.

I got to hang out with Shoemoney @ the copeac party and all I have to say is that he is a party animal. Clearly he is not posting the pics where he jumped in the pool but ass naked. True story.

Cool! I’d love to attend major Internet Marketing events every year if I could. What separates me from going to these events would be funding. But I know, whatever the cost is, it’ll be definitely worth my while.
