So I am back on a good diet, lifting 3 days a week, and going to try to do cardio 2x a week.

I will also post my weight in free shirt friday posts.  Right now it is at 230.   My target weight is 195.

Good Luck with the diet… I think dieting sucks that is why you need to make it a way of life…. I am doing weight watchers totally works but you have to make it a way of life.

  4. robert saunders

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat and weight category. I was up around 225 in late September. Since then I’ve cut out pasta, french fries, late night snacks, and limited fast food to once a month. Without exercise I am down to 200 now. My doc wants me to get to 185-190, but I’ll settle for 195. I’m 6′.

    It’s Hilarious.

  10. Taris Janitens

I’m so with you on that man. Just went to the gym on the 2nd of January. Protein diet. It’s sucks, but works ;-)

  11. Rick

I think the trick is to do exercise that is fun for you. Personally, I can’t do the gym cause I get bored out of my mind.

Take a martial arts class, do some yoga, play some sports, get outdoors… whatever it is that you will actually enjoy – and thus will keep doing.

I think the trick is to make healthy lifestyle changes and let the results happen over time. Diets and short-term goals only go so far IMHO.

If worse comes to worse, do not go towards another surgery.

When you start looking too skinny, people start talking about how ugly you are. This is how it is for me because when I was 200 pounds for about 1 year, everyone remembered how I looked. After I lost 50 pounds, my family started hating it!

  16. IronBlogger

I’m currently in the worst shape of my life right now. I think I just spend way to much time on the computer these days and it’s affecting me in a very bad way.

  17. professional lifestyle

Good luck! I am doing the same, had my first swimming session again since months. Wait lifting is great for getting stronger but i think you can better focus on the cardio 3 times a week and weight lifting 2 times a week. That will make you lose the fat much faster.

  18. uwak

time to exercise……..time to work hard….to burn the fat

  19. Ted @ xs650chopper

so fun.. I actually think muffin tops are sexy. I’m dead serious.. muffin top.. I just like to say it.muffin top..LOL…

  20. Listen To Me Bitch

    Hey Jeremy,

Like you I too need to get back into the gym. I have equipment in my house but for some reason find myself unable to use it…try as I might I can’t motivate myself.

So what does that mean? Gym membership, another $500+ expenditure for no real reason aside from feeling more obligated to work out…

Good luck with your endeavor and remember, diet is a bad word, you need to change the way you eat forever…otherwise you’ll be on the same rollercoaster for a while.

  21. Ted @ xs650Chopper

I’ve been skinny my whole entire life and have always been trying to gain weight.. over the past year though I’m spending more and more time sitting in front of my computer and have actually gained a little muffin top myself.. shit that’s funny.. funny muffin top.. and good luck man on losing the weight though I’m sure you’ll be able to do it with no problem..

  22. sumter (required)

    i’m a muffin top too :(

  23. GP

I can totally understand. I gained a couple pounds during the holidays, but only about 5 I think. I actually am continuing my weight lose from last year. Last year I lost 45lbs and still going…not to mention building some good muscle too!

  24. Nick Stamoulis

ha, that video could have gone horribly wrong.

  25. Y920

    Cool Video :)

  26. Atniz

All the best with your target weight. I’m sure you can find tons of techniques and ideas on how to reduce weight faster and safer.

  27. Tulsa Food

OK I love this post. I remember that one episode of Singfield that was about muffin tops. This video is so funny!

  28. Dick

I stand for moderations in food and physical training not to ride an exercycle 15 miles per a day.

  29. Eugene Thong

    Jeremy,

Good stuff – taking the first step is the hardest part. Kudos to you for exercising but keep in mind that for fat loss purposes diet is the primary modifier (in other words, you can’t outrun a crappy diet).

    Best of luck.

  30. Unique

Muffin Tops are caused by wearing too tight of pants. So girls just take them off…

  31. Franck Silvestre

I wish I have all the discipline and determination to muster so I can stay fit and trim all throughout the year too! Sigh! :(

I am just a couch potato like everyone else. Why is it too darn hard to diet and exercise? :p

  32. Jimmy the Barrel

I am with ya Shoe. I am about to do a gastric bypass, as I have a trainer now I work with. I know how hard it is to lose the weight man. But I know you did it once, you can do it again. Mental game, that’s all it is. I learned that way late, but am applying ti now.

  33. Mr. School Fundraising ideas

Yeah I know how it feels to be a muffin top. I used to be skinny like a bean pole but then when I stop doing sports I started getting a little pug around my belly, from just not being so active anymore.

  34. luxury rentals miami

Nice ad, it’s been a while since I saw something funny and not involving any negative emotions.
As for the diet – keep it up! I’ve started doing the same thing, gym 3 times a week, diet.

  35. Myrtle Beach Rentals

good deal. I know getting married and just slowing down my lifestyle can really increase the size of you waist line. I imagine having kids and spending time with them even cuts you workout down more.

I try to take things I like to do and add a treadmill. I’m an MSNBC and stock market addict. But i watch a lot of the commentary while i’m on the treadmill.

But good luck 40lbs is tough, i’m trying to loose a few pounds myself

  36. Ben Pei

Yes Jeremy. ONe suggestion, you should build up your chest! It makes you look more in shape that way..

  37. Tom

Wish you the best of luck!

  38. Ben Pei

By the way jeremy, why did you remove your comment award?

  39. Don

My new exercise is, firmly placing both hands on the table and pushing away prior to eating all the food. :)

I’ve seen clients of mine lose 20 to 30lbs in as little as 3 months, you’d rather lose it slowly than fast, so that you know for sure that your losing actual fat and not just water weight.

You should think about aikido! I’ve studied aikido for 11 years and think is a great workout and more!

Going to Gym requires discipline, persistency and hardwork, just like building your blog, I say based on my experience 6 to 12 months you can see the results.

  44. Ramses

Uf, I hate cardio but lifting is really nice. I skipped gym for 3 weeks due to my holidays. I don’t know how much I gained exactly but I didn’t feel all too good. Luckily I’m back home again and able to sport!

Good luck. Exercise and drink a lot of water!

  45. joe gelb

the most effective diet out there is the pizza diet or like i like to call it the za diet

  46. yves

    Shoe,

I have almost the same goal as you for the new year. I weighed myself and I’m 225 and I wanna drop down to 190. We got some work ahead of ourselves.Remember it’s a marathon not a sprint so if the first couple weeks weigh ins aren’t that great keep pushing, that’s what I’m doing..

  47. John Chow

Hey Shoe. You want to have a weight lost challenge? :P

  48. Craig Neil

Nice, you’ve got my support Shoe. Stay healthy, that’s a strong goal!

I don’t believe in going to the Gym. I just jog for about 30-40 mins a day and then walk small distance jobs. I avoid talking the Car or going by Taxi for 10 mins walk distances. My current weight is 160 Lbs which is about 72-75 Kgs aprox :)

  50. infi

  51. Dick

To keep the weight under control is a good idea while taking care of health. But lose your weight slowly using mental affirmations.

  52. Raja Kamil

All the best. Just be consistent :)

  53. Spin Ready Articles

Ha ha ha, Jeremy. Go ahead and burn some of that fat. But seriously, like the above commenter said, don’t push too hard at first. I am certain it’s more about “slow and STEADY” than anything else. Just ensure you consistently work out, even though slowly. Eventually you will see results. Bravo for the effort, though.

  54. Films Fight

How tall are you Shoe? If you’re in the 6 foot range, then 195 is a perfectly fine weight, and you should be able to get there with the routine you outlined.

  55. Ari Lestariono

Good luck on your program, my advice is use lots of treadmill, change food habbits and drink lots of water to avoid hunger sensation

  56. Philippa

Good Luck!. Im right there with you. Well I have 7 lbs to go but it is the hardest.

  57. Ryan

Sounds like you and I have the same exact numbers and goal… I think I might have to take you on and make this an online challenge!

  58. Rob

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the free T-shirt! I emailed a photo to Sharon last week.

I gained some pounds over the holidays as well! Went from 202 to 213 pounds! Was riding the exercycle 15 miles per day, Monday thru Friday, weekends off.

Pulled a thread of my hamstring, and am just healed enough to begin the schedule again.

Hope to meet you again at Affiliate Summit West 2009 in Las Vegas this weekend.

Jesus, 6 months of no working out, not even cardio. I’ve seen those pictures of you back in the day and if you think that won’t come back quick, your crazy. I’m surprised its 6 months, 6 weeks is more like it. Damn brother…

  61. Nicholas Chase (required)

    Hi Jeremy,

Yes the holiday food really added some ‘tonnage’ to my frame as well!

Too many snacks between massive lunches and dinners with family and friends.

Before BlogWorld Expo in September 2008 I weighed 202. Now I weigh 213!

I was riding the exercycle 15 miles per day on Mon~Fri. with weekends off to recover.

Then I pulled a thread of my hamstring and quit riding for awhile. Now I’m motivated to get back to that schedule.

Hope we meet again at #ASW09 in Las Vegas this week.

And thanks for the free Shoemoney t-shirt, I wear it often!

    Respectfully,

Good luck! I’m on a diet myself and going to the gym 3-4 times a week. Currently at 230lbs hoping to get to a solid 200lbs by summer.

  63. BrandC

What about having a graph or update on your site that follows you on your “get in shape” quest? Or maybe a contest with your readers to challenge each other to lose the most weight.

  64. MouthyGirl

Awesome idea for accountability purposes, when your readers are watching your progress you’re much more likely to accomplish your desired results.

Good luck, though I’m sure luck has nothing to do with it!

I love the new stuff on the blog, the latest comments at the top, and did you change more, it seems like you did though I can’t put my finger on it…

    • SEO Tips South Africa

A muffin top is when one’s “love handles” hang over the waist of one’s pants, resembling a muffin’s top where it had risen over the edge of the muffin tin it was baked in…..can you visualise that?

  67. Trigeia Twins

I’d say that the best cardio you can do is weight lifting. stick to that and you will do just great. Be inspired and make it happen.

Here’s an idea, I set up a cycle trainer in my garage, a mountain bike just clips into it and for 45 minutes every day I go in there straight from work and cycle and read or listen to the radio.

I was at 195 and am now 4 months later at 180. Other key stuff, no snacks after evening meal and drink only water after that time.

Better still I am getting through books like you wouldn’t believe. Truly 2 birds with one stone!

    You can do it!

  70. Brian

I am sick of thinking about working out. Instead I just give myself enemas using the beer bong and all the saliva at the bottom of beer cans. I lost 12 pounds last week using this formula.

On the real, good job on getting to the gym.
Alright that is not true I only lost 10 pounds.

  71. TStrump

    Have you tried yoga?
You’ll lose weight fast and it will fix ‘imbalances’ caused by working out with weights.
I’ve been weightlifting for years and recently turned to yoga because I was having back problems.
I’m 250 pounds and if I can do it, anyone can!
Suffice it to say, I’m hooked!

  72. Tom

Heh, I am more like a muffin that had too much batter top!

I am thinking about the lapband procedure more and more, and I might consider going for it, only because I have seen successes such as yours and a few acquaintances getting the procedure done and having a great success!

Best of luck at the gym. HIT THOSE WEIGHTS HARD Jeremy!

    Tom

  73. Travelinator

I have lost allot of wieght thanks to losing my job and my websites do not make me any money. Maybe this is a silver lining.

Schoemaker, I personally find that the gym requires a very powerful mental trick. Human beings are motivated in 1 of 2 ways: Away from pain or toward pleasure. I’ve found that most people are away from pain, which is why goals usually don’t work for a lot of people. Figure out which one you are…

Do you prefer to have a fire lit under your butt?
    or
Do you prefer to chase after the carrot in front of you?

You can use this as self leverage to help your consistency of going the gym.

Good luck to you. It’s nice to see some people doing it the natural way instead of taking diet pills.

    • MMA Web Design

There is no natural way. If you don’t use any dietary supplements to help you lose weight, you are only cheating yourself.

      • Israel

you are kidding right? you done need pills to lose weight…if you cant understand that, go to some research.

Shoe, I think its cool you are rededicating yourself.

        • Paul B

Israel has it spot on. Eat less, burn more is ALL you need to do. There is no magic secret to losing weight, it’s the most basic of basic maths.

      • TYCP Entertainment Magazine

Yeah, okay chuckles. I’m going to say you’re joking. I think anyone that uses these pills is a fool.

    • Ari Lestariono

Diet pills can damage your liver, losing weight naturally by exercise and change food dietation is the only way to do it.Stay healthy

      • SEO Tips South Africa

Cutting out carbs from refined foods is key, the lower the GI (Glycemic Index) of your food intake the better. The food with the highest GI is, wait for it…….BEEEEEER!

White bread is another no-no, along with white rice and other ultra refined foods (not forgetting white sugar, the most widely abused drug in the world)

Pushing weights in conjunction with a low GI diet is definitely the best way to shed weight and tone muscles, giving you the fastest, best results…..naturally.

    • MMA Web Design

Just call it “Acai” I was waiting for someone to say something about Acai. It’s caloric. Very caloric! It’s a great anti-oxidant and far from a dietary supplement. Stay AWAY!

  89. Mr. School Fundraising ideas

Oh yeah I would lie to a girl about that, I have before and will probably do so again. But I feel your pain as well, I too… am a muffin top. I have been putting off going to a gym because I hate working out with other people around, I’m waiting to get my own house and buy a boflex or something.
So goo luck to you Shoe.

  90. Nicholas Mercer

Good luck with the weight loss – it’s just getting out of the holiday season so alot of us have put on some extra pounds.

  94. Kolby Bothe

LOL thats a funny video. Good luck Jeremy, work hard and you’ll lose that in no time. Eating healthy and having a consistent workout plan is most important.

    Try? Ya, that’ll work. Always does: “I’m trying . . I tried . . . ”
