UFC92 Forrest Griffin Vs Rashad Evans

by Jeremy Schoemaker on December 27, 2008 · 48 comments

The UFC has put together a “Highlight Reel” of 2008 events on their site for tonight’s UFC fights.

Tonight’s card is amazing:

MAIN CARD (TELEVISED)

Champ Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans (for UFC light heavyweight title):

Great match up and a well deserved title shot for Rashad Evans. Forrest seems to always find a way to win but I think in this fight he is outmatched in most aspects. Rashad has better stand up and wrestling but I think Forrest’s jitz is quite a bit better.

I am really torn on picking a winner for this. I think Forrest can bang with Rashad but Rashad showed amazing speed in the Liddell fight (although a very rare well timed punch).

If Rashad takes Forrest down it will be the death of him. Forrest is VERY good off his back and even though Rashad is better at wrestling I think Forrest will triangle or arbar him (much like he did rampage until rampage was going to powerbomb him).

I am picking Forrest Griffin by Triangle Choke in the 2nd round.

Champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir (for interim UFC heavyweight title)

I like Frank Mir but I only see this fight going to Big Nog. Mir might have better standup but does not have the power to knock out Nogueria. I also give the wrestling and jitz nods to Big Nog.

I am picking Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to win this fight in the 3rd round by TKO.

Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva

What a rematch! If you have not seen these to go at it before the fights are awesome. Rampage is down 2-0 to Wanderlei Silva but its been a tough go for Silva in the octagon and I look for Rampage to make the record 2-1

I love how they put up the highlight reel. I’m not going to pick a winner, its going to be a good fight.

I’ve heard opposing views on the Jackson/Silva fight – saying that Silvas gonna win

In all honesty, I don’t know who to pick – its gonna be a GREAT set of fights though either way

I posted my predictions here (been an MMA fan for 15 years)

http://www.pokerjerk.net/mma-predictions-ufc-92/

My first two pick’s are along with Shoe’s (although I don’t think Forrest will finish Rashad) but I am picking Wanderlei over Rampage because I don’t think Rampage’s head is in the game 100% (after he went on his Rampage killing a baby, we’ll have to see how he is after this fight)

OMG I can’t believe I made the typo “pick’s”. That only slipped by after a couple drinks! I am NOT that stupid!!!

Oh no, the baby is upset!

My post will probably be stuck in moderation until after Shoe watches UFC, so nobody will get to see my brilliant picks (and stupid typo)

God damn, Frank Mir continues to surprize me! I am pretty pissed at Nogueira’s performance.. Although I thought he looked out of shape at the weigh-ins, I still had to pick him over Mir, who has a proven track record of being a fat lazy pig. Not anymore though!

Next time I am going to follow my gut when I feel like an underdog’s opponent is not looking good.

I am pretty happy with my other picks. Rashad is for real, and it looks like Rampage has recovered from his mental issues.

I didn’t even know rampage had mental issues?!?! I suppose that does explain the nickname though!!

Doen here on the southern tip of africa we don’t get UFC coverage, even on satellite tv. WWE (yawn) is rampant, but not the real thing! I envy you guys, as I’d love to watch UFC live.

Nice Shoe, this event is going to be awesome, but I don’t think Griffin has a shot against Evans. You put any cash on these fights? You can check out my post about the fights and who I’m laying my money on at my blog post here http://internetmarketingrebel.com/?p=11

I also think ‘fight of the night’ will probably be the Rampage and Silva fight. These guys are going to be slugging it out hardcore for sure.

You seem to have a lot of anger, and like to offend, which I can say is not my game. So if you are offended at my opinion, that’s the breaks kid.

Nice picks.

Although I think Wandy is Rampage’s cryptonite and Forest is going to get either KO or TKO.

Great night for fights!

What is with all these MFA fighters dieing?

Reply

23 The Poker Jerk December 27, 2008 at 12:29 pm

If you’re talking about the couple fighters who died in unrelated incidents in the past few weeks, neither of their deaths had anything to do with MMA. The fact that they happened to be MMA fighters was purely coincidental.

So to answer your question: Nothing.

Reply

24 IamJustinM December 27, 2008 at 3:36 pm

Well when you consider the fact that both deaths are from gunshot
wounds and both stories come down to emotional distress
or rage then it’s hard to say it has nothing to do with MMA.

Could there be some sort of performance enhancing drug involved?

Reply

25 The Poker Jerk December 27, 2008 at 3:46 pm

The first guy (murder suicide) was definitely on drugs, he failed a drug test in California with levels about 1000 times the legal limit. This was for a painkiller though, not steroids. He was also infamously crazy (the police have been called to his house several times in the past) and had drug problems.

The second guy was killed by his mom’s husband.. He could have been an MMA fighter, boxer, or a paper boy. It had nothing to do with his profession.

So yeah, not much to do with MMA itself. Just coincidence.

26 IamJustinM December 27, 2008 at 3:51 pm

I read the second guy was shot because he went absolutely apeshit
over some ex-girlfriend issue. He started destroying the whole house
or somethin.

This seems to be akin to the WWE and other wrestlers exhibiting similar patterns of abuse. That’s the problem with this kind of sport, performance enhancing steroids and other drugs get abused, a lot!

Well, I think you’ve got to be a little crazy to step into the ring especially with MMA…

It is an amazing card!

I have my money on Rashad, Nogueira and Jackson. I think is too Evans is too strong at the moment for Forrest, although the kid has a knack of always finding a way to win…

Can’t wait ’till tonight.

Thanks Shoe.
