How To Be A Top Online Marketer

Posted on: December 20th, 2008 by Jeremy Schoemaker

Gyutae Park of winning the web put together a great post about How To Be A Top Internet Marketer.

I think it has some really good tips for people looking to become an authority in the space.

This post was spurred by the Invesp Consulting top 100 internet marketers of 2008 list. I was ranked #11 in this list and if they would have spelled my name right I would have linked to it.

Post written by Jeremy Schoemaker

Hi I am Jeremy Schoemaker and ShoeMoney.com is my blog. 99% of the post here are done by me but you will see others occasionally make guest posts. This blog is fun to write but for my day job I run several online companies.

from experience, the best and absolute way:
run a radio ad, have a seminar ($5 admission) and at seminar have them receive $5 for each person they refer to sign up and attend next seminar, pay them the $5. viral. worked for me.

I would have to agree that networking is one of the best resources that the new business person has especially on the internet. Being able to network with others is basically what everyone does, trying to get a link on another person page and have them linked to someone else and them linked to someone else and so on and so on.

    Thanks

    Good article.

As for the list, it’s interesting that Arianna Huffington’s HuffPo made it because a couple of days ago, they were accused of stealing content from other sites.

What about fear tactics and brute force .. it seems to be very profitable for many governments .. how can we apply these same strategies .. without going to jail that is? Whoever figures it out stands to make a nice chunk of change.

Number 11 ? Shoe. I would think you would have been in the top 10. These are great tips. Fake it till you make it is so true. I started my first business when I was 18 painting houses and only knew the basics. I faked it for the 1st few years as I learned. I got most of my work by sounding authoritative and showing customers my previous work. Funny thing about the trades is simply calling people back and answering the phone gets you more work than the competition. Same thing with SEM. Post lots and be authoritative. Answer questions and if you don’t know how send users to a place their ?s will be answered

That is weird that they didn’t spell your name correctly. They should probably fix that. It doesn’t look very professional having a mistake like that.

I mean, I’ll admit… its hard to remember how to spell your last name, but whenever I write about you or provide some kind of reference, I take like 5 seconds to get the spelling on your about me page. I’d be put off by this too slightly.

It’s a fine article, but you can find the exact same list of vague success tips in every “turn around your life” book on the market. Actually implementing those tips takes a whole ‘nother set of skills.

Thanks for the link. I especially like the part of point #2 about telling my story. As a beginner, it’s one of the things I’m doing on my blog.

Very interesting article indeed…the line above was my favorite because I truly believe that you need to focus and drill down within your niche to become an expert in an area – you cant be a jack of all trades and this article clearly explains the why’s – thanks for sharing Jeremy.

Yes, as long as its not the “make money online” speciality. Think the same guy wrote an article why NOT to make a “make money online” blog. It’s like garyvee said, find a passion, stick to it, and you’ll make a killing doing it.

That is why you will be called a “TOP” marketer not “just another marketer”.

With all the MMO and Internet Marketing Marketing blogs on the web… the top 100 list is by FAR, the top 1%, maybe even slimmer than that! Surely… you knew you would make it…

Some on the list are just whack, out of order… but many of the others are right in place! I have found that on some of these ranking lists, you are better off in the top 15, or BOTTOM 15… they seem to get viewed the most by people checking out the BEST, and then looking at who they need to beat, to make the top 100 list!

    Congrats…

Good points!! You gotta wonder where some of the top lists come from. First criteria should always be traffic if you ask me – just a matter of finding all the high profile blogs to make an accurate list, as there are clearly many on the internet

that sucks, I have had the same thing happen when getting mentioned in newspaper articles and different things. The worst part is my name is fairly common and easy to spell

    • Tushar
      December 20, 2008 at 11:10 pm

      It’s worse for me, lol.

Most people end up calling me Tushard because they think my last name is hoot.

Heck, even my own friends used to think that.
