Cool Couple Weeks For MMA Fans!

by Jeremy Schoemaker on December 10, 2008 · 44 comments

Tonight FREE on Spike there is a fight for the troops with my friend Josh Koscheck headlining. Fighters writer Selina “Dead” Wong caught up with Josh a couple days ago:

At the Purpose INC events a couple weeks ago in Las Vegas we went to Randy Couture’s Gym and met some of the fighters from this seasons Ultimate Fighter.

The guys were totally awesome. Junie, who from the show comes off like a total jerk, was actually a sweet heart.

Both Vinny (who is in the finals) and Junie fight Saturday on Spike for the Ultimate Fighter Finals.

Here is a picture of me with them at Xtreme Couture.

I did not make it to the official “Fight Club” but here is a funny video of Jenise beating on Junie (who will be fighting Saturday night in the Ultimate Fighter Final). You might recognize serveral internet marketers in the background ;) :

Sweet!!! I regularly check out the UFC fights at the local sports bar called Wegz here in Toronto. Anyone remember watching Joe Rogan on his old show fear factor?? He’s actually a pretty good comedian if you all didn’t know!!

And Jeremy – I love how you included your blog sponsors on that pic there!! Very clever!! :)

Shoe – You get to do the coolest stuff.
I think it’s awesome that they are fighting for the troops. I can’t imagine a better group of people to get to see these fights than our troops.

I love to watch UFC fights, however my wife is very pissed about it. she said that MMA is too much violence.
I see MMA as a sports in the same level of football or hockey. Everybody wants to win and will do everything possible [accordingly to the rules] to win.

Have your wife watch the above video. Warn her first that there is serious bloodshed taking place.

I got so lucky. My wife loves the fights. I didn’t think she would and neither did she. When I went to ATL UFC 88 she didn’t know why. Then we watched UFC on TV later and she liked it.

You can! Stop wishing and DO IT! If you can get up to go to McDonalds you can go to a UFC fight or wherever else.

I think the fight for troops card is an okay card. I think they should have done away with it and used the event on Dec. 27 to be the fight for the troops card. It’s stacked with the best fighters in the UFC today.

The shows that are aired on Spike get WAY more viewers than Pay-Per-View events. An average PPV event gets around 300-500,000 viewers while the spike events get 2-3 million viewers.

So from the point of view of the Charity, it makes sense to go for the Spike TV show! More viewers = more possible donations!

Should be great fight, UFC is one of my favorite sports, but I’m a big fan os the “back in the days” UFC, when Royce Gracie ruled for years.

Wasn’t aware that “UFC” was a sport.

Whoa tonto!

I guess this guy wants the exact phrasing going around here. Sorry he should have said UFC is an organization hosting MMA cage fighting which is a sport.

I too have a soft spot for the old days. Unfortunately, as Michael Corleone reminds us “The new overthrows the old, it’s natural.” And without Dana White, UFC would not be where it is today. Respect him as marketer and businessman. It is just sad to see Ken Shamrock get dusted everytime he steps up to fight anymore.

That’s cool about Junie. Troubled kid, for sure. I felt bad for him on The Ultimate Fighter. I hope he can get the help he needs (physically and mentally), because I think he can be one heck of a fighter.
