Getting Back From Orlando

by Jeremy Schoemaker on December 7, 2008 · 36 comments

Just getting back from Orlando where I attended the Izea Board Of Advisers meeting. Also on the Izea Board with me is Chris Brogan, Bryan Clarke, Jim Krukal, Missy Ward, Michael Brito, and Neil Patel. Great group of people with a huge variety of ideas.

I think we overwhelmed Ted Murphy (Izea CEO) a bit with all the different things we were throwing at him.

I believe Izea reached a big tipping point with the Kmart promotion last week. It generated a ton of buzz and I can’t help but think Kmart is thrilled with the outcome.

Are you in the SocialSpark program? If not you should be. Some pretty cool opportunities there.

Shoe – good to see all the heavyweights down in Orlando for the weekend. Looked like everyone had a fun time Friday night downtown. Also good to see Ted getting some info from the guys and gals who are really making a difference in the industry.

I think it is the $500 KMart voucher competition. Please correct me if I’m wrong, somebody.

Great to hear you were part of a think tank like this. I have a question about Social Spark though… is it not another Pay Per Post engine?

Don’t get me wrong… I find NOTHING wrong with them at all as they are editorialized reviews, more or less. But don’t the advertisers have concerns about the whole no-follow or google will spark a fire in your a$$ deal?

I actually SUPPORT paid editorial reviews that are relevant to your readers… but we all know, Google feels we should be fully scrutinized by both themselves and the FTC!

I agree with you, Mark. If the information is relevant I feel there is nothing wrong with paid reviews, as long as there is alway balance, and unbiased comment on the product / service is unedited.

Mark,
I wanted to let you know that all of the opportunities in SocialSpark are no-follow and exceed the guidelines set by the Word of Mouth Matrketing Association. You can see what Matt Cutts of Google has to say about SocialSpark here:

Ted –

Thanks for the follow up on it,.. I actually spent 10-15 minutes looking for this exact info on the site last night. They may want to add it to the blogger/advertiser FAQ sections.

Thanks again,

Mark

I am was wondering about the KMart tie-in, hope it shows them the power/impact of bloggers and social networking. Maybe get them thinking outside of just banner ads with/through major ad agencies.

The Kmart buzz was so freaking smart. For the cost and effort I imagine it will generate huge dividends. I can personally say that it put Kmart back on my radar for this holiday season.

The KMart sponsorship was a great idea. As a side note, I’d love to be in the room with all the ideas being thrown around. I’m sure I’d have some input to share.

I run a media company with a network of blogs so I am definitely now looking over SocialSpark and signing up. I think it looks to be a great way to supplement that extra amount that a few of our ventures in media need to profit and will allow are larger blogs to profit even more without doing anymore work.
