Beyond AdSense – Website Magazine
Posted on: November 13th, 2008 by Jeremy Schoemaker
This months Website Magazine is starting to hit the shelves and I am receiving some pretty good feedback about the article I wrote titled “Beyond Adsense”. In the article I talk about how I started with AdSense years ago and how I evolved to other forms of advertising.
Hi I am Jeremy Schoemaker and ShoeMoney.com is my blog. 99% of the post here are done by me but you will see others occasionally make guest posts. This blog is fun to write but for my day job I run several online companies.
More about Jeremy at http://www.shoemoney.com!

WOW great it will be a nice read. I know what you think about adsense but still lets see what it says
November 13, 2008 at 6:34 am
Read that article yesterday. It was a pretty good article… pretty insightful. Thanks for sharing Shoe.
November 14, 2008 at 8:08 am
Sounds like a great article. I need to get me a copy of this magazine. Do you think it will help me earn more money on my blog?
November 15, 2008 at 8:35 am
I read an article today. She liked me. Very detailed and clear.
November 13, 2008 at 7:24 am
Brewed a cup of joe and reading it as we speak. Its nice to have traditional reading material on the subway.
November 13, 2008 at 10:23 am
This all goes back to that famous cheque, the one featured on the right hand side of each and every page…..that one!
November 13, 2008 at 11:06 am
i heard that check was fake
November 13, 2008 at 11:48 am
From where you heard that?
November 13, 2008 at 2:36 pm
I don’t think so
November 13, 2008 at 4:02 pm
If it is fake, it didn’t stop you from coming to his site almost on a daily basis. I’ve thought about it…The first thing I think is weird is that…..
He blurs his actual name out on the check? So is it his real name? Or is it a fake?
November 14, 2008 at 3:12 am
really, how can this be?
November 15, 2008 at 8:15 am
It sure ain’t fake, son!
November 13, 2008 at 8:10 pm
I subscribed to the magazine. When is it supposed to come out?
November 14, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Even if the check was fake, their is a lot of other things to prove Jeremy’s worth online.
November 15, 2008 at 2:44 am
No check is not fake, it’s real
November 13, 2008 at 6:51 am
Looks like a great magazine but I can’t find your article. It is not in the latest articles scroll, can’t find it in the tag cloud under ppc or adsense. There is no author search and there is no title search.
I would like to read it, any ideas?

Or just go here: http://www.websitemagazine.com/content/blogs/posts/archive/2008/10/30/beyond-adsense.aspx
I’m definitely taking your advise on making a “wish list” instead of the “buy me a cup of coffee” donation button that a lot of people seem to be doing. Since the holidays are approaching, I think it’ll go over well.
November 13, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Just click through to the site and type Shoemoney is search.

I think the article comprises what you and Mr.Reese talked about in the interview a year ago…
November 14, 2008 at 1:59 am
Wow, you still remeber that interview?
November 14, 2008 at 12:14 pm
A true follower..
November 13, 2008 at 7:40 am
um, forgive me for revealing my ignorance here, but…there’s a PAPER magazine devoted to WEB topics? is it just me, or is this completely bizarre?
November 13, 2008 at 8:26 am
Subscriptions are free and you can opt for a paper copy, digital copy, or both. If you’re curious I’d say sign up and see. It can be an interesting read.
November 13, 2008 at 9:17 am
Are you kidding? Of course there is paper magazines like this…
November 13, 2008 at 11:02 am
Not yet. Are you a time traveller from the future? Thanks for the heads-up!
November 13, 2008 at 1:52 pm
I like to think of myself like that…
You just have to look around…
November 15, 2008 at 7:59 am
…..point well taken!
November 13, 2008 at 8:48 pm
You have to have something to read on the plane.
November 13, 2008 at 7:51 am
This is a great article, its good to know there are alternatives to adsense
November 13, 2008 at 9:18 am
There is alternatives to everything if you think about it. Adsense is basically the king of it though. They probably offer the highest payouts then one like Adbrite. It also depends on the niche.
November 13, 2008 at 11:49 am
But adsense is king and no one is near it
November 15, 2008 at 8:37 am
adsense is a great monopoly on earning money. -)
November 13, 2008 at 8:02 am
It’s too small to read!
November 13, 2008 at 9:22 am
Here is a link, this one won’t be too small…

Squint, it works for me. They call me eagle eyes…
November 13, 2008 at 8:13 am
Pretty good basic article. The points I’ve heard before about “click and gone” and “controlling ads” are things that some may not think about when they are using adsense.
November 13, 2008 at 8:23 am
Ive been hearing all the same stuff from shoe for the past few years. It seems to be the same concepts repeated.
November 13, 2008 at 10:35 am
This article is to an outside channel, written to people who do not know who shoemoney is or have not followed shoemoney for years. Most of this audience have not heard his Adsense bit. Why would we want shoemoney to say something “new” to that audience? We would want him to give it here, on his site, his feed, or in his newsletter. Look at what money making advice he has given in the past two weeks on his site- local affiliate business, getting content from visitors, review sites w/ plugin.
Most authors do keep their new material for primary channel and give recycled material to outside channels. Serves two purposes, one, it keeps readership loyalty (loyal readers/fans know where to come for the good stuff), and two, helps polish the the out of channel material to draw in more new readers/followers. Just like a good landing page, keep crafting and polishing it to keep drawing in more readers.

Regurgitation has been proven as the best way to feed infant birdies….is this the process we are witnessing here?
November 13, 2008 at 6:01 pm
baby birdies are always hungry for more :O)
November 13, 2008 at 9:20 am
That’s why in my opinion, when you put adsense up, make sure you aren’t selling anything similar on your website. Because you are directing that traffic away from your site and they might not come back. Instead you make .45 cents when you could of made $40 on that person.
November 13, 2008 at 7:25 pm
I think that speaks to a different business model, not to adsense or not adsense.
If you want to be an affiliate, have content that sells the affiliate link. So you need a strong connection between content and ad. Not so much with adsense, where the content brings ppl to the site, but lets them putz around and get distracted, by adsense links preferably. wo different business models.
November 13, 2008 at 8:21 pm
I wish shoe would give us his input on this subject…
November 13, 2008 at 8:28 pm
I agree… The main goal for you is to make people like your content, hopefully build reputation and have them buy through your link…
November 13, 2008 at 8:46 am
Nice article. AdSense is nice income for beginners
November 18, 2008 at 1:41 am
easy ways to create money online……
November 13, 2008 at 8:58 am
Read the article a day or two ago … very nice. Would you consider expanding on it here?
November 13, 2008 at 9:09 am
A good article – it’s hard to fit many details into a single page.
November 13, 2008 at 9:36 am
I watch the video you did where you talked about adsense is great for starters but as your blog evolves you need to start bringing other forms of advertising which i though was right on the money. Thanks
November 13, 2008 at 9:44 am
Congrats on the article and getting page 6 (the first content page) is icing on the cake.
November 13, 2008 at 9:57 am
they have a sweet digital version
November 13, 2008 at 10:00 am
Wow, it should be a very interesting read. I’ll wait for the copy to be available.
November 13, 2008 at 10:12 am
I like the idea of a paper magazine for MMO. Something tangible to throw in a backpack for later, read on plane or in the can. Don’t have to worry about battery life or getting it wet. Plus, easy to have grandma to read.
November 15, 2008 at 8:39 am
I think this idea is not new. I have seen such things.

November 13, 2008 at 11:20 am
Great idea having a paper magazine covering professional web publishers.
November 13, 2008 at 11:46 am
Great for us…
November 13, 2008 at 11:57 am
What is hilarious is I just got this in the mail yesterday and was about to throw the magazine out.. didn’t know you had an article in here and now I am reading it. Awesome!
November 13, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Looks like it will be a great read as well… will have to do some digging around to see if I can find this magazine locally.
November 13, 2008 at 12:54 pm
yeah..I’m glad someone took the time out to find another affiliate program besides Google adsenes. You only can make crumbs with them.
November 13, 2008 at 12:58 pm
great Article Indeed
November 13, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Its a nice article. Thanks for it.
November 13, 2008 at 1:34 pm
is it really possable to make that much with adsence without blackhat?
November 13, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Hey shoe, off topic but your myspace link on the bottom right side is broken. Take the slash out. I doubt you give a shit anyways, haha.
November 13, 2008 at 2:55 pm
nice article, thanks Jeremy
November 13, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I also stated with adsense , although I still have those site running
November 14, 2008 at 1:58 am
Adsense are best for novices, and then you can later advance in the greater affiliate market schemes.
November 14, 2008 at 12:16 pm
At times adsense can be a more reliable income.
November 13, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Started with Adsense…you mean took off with Adsense sprinting. Then there’s that fat $132K check. ; ) This is going to be a great read. Thank you.
November 13, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Same old stuff.
November 13, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Great article, I have just started reading on this blog and fully enjoyed this.
Regards
Steve

Shoe – how did you raise the 40k in your 2003 arbitrage effort? Family, savings, investor? I bet it is still possible to make $ with arbitrage but the risks are greater and the arbitrage formula harder to find.
November 13, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Hi Shoe – I loved your article. And I agree, although Adsense is great, you put yourself in a position of no control if you rely on them. If an advertiser has an ad that sucks – you lose cash.
And the case of your friend was scary. There’s ways you can check what ads are showing in other countries – but nobody has the time to constantly check.
BTW – I like your new newsletter. It’s a 100% more informative than most of the other shit I get in my mail.
November 13, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I haven’t seen much success with Adsense. I guess it works only on certain sites. I’m exploring it for now.
November 13, 2008 at 8:20 pm
It works for sites getting over 10,000 uniques per day…
November 14, 2008 at 12:18 pm
It all depends on the CTR and cost per click google is giving you.
November 14, 2008 at 9:54 pm
I wonder how many sites can say they have 10K uniques per month? Also, how long they can or have sustained that?
November 13, 2008 at 8:05 pm
definitely a nice article… but I am out of adsense – banned
November 13, 2008 at 8:18 pm
But then you’re not the one writing articles there right?
November 13, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Yous article was the first one that I read when I received my issue in the mail, very good read.
November 13, 2008 at 9:21 pm
soooooo useful thanx as usual

Thanks for sharing your thought about how do you Making money by adsense shoe, really interesting but how do you drive more traffic to get that earning??
November 14, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I think there are thousands of blogs dedicated to helping you solve that issue.
November 15, 2008 at 2:45 am
by good rankings
November 18, 2008 at 1:43 am
maybe using ppc like adwords…
November 14, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Pretty good article. I think everyone should start with Adsense, then try other ways to generate money online. Once you try a lot of things(that work), you should know exactly what you like, and then build a business that way.
November 14, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Its really cool to hear the story of your website and how you came to earn so much money. Thanks again for all the great content.
November 15, 2008 at 1:05 am
I’m up $1,000 on my 1 month old blog by using multiple affiliate options, and I’m a noob. God I love the internet, as Shoe says, “like fishing with dynamite”. I can’t wait until I get out of the sandbox and get some serious organic keyword traffic. Then I can afford one of those awesome trips I showcase.
November 15, 2008 at 1:50 am
still struck in second gear with adsense..
got to do some stuff

Great Post, Adsense doesnt like many of my sites so I have to use different types of advertising.

I guess – you have revealed some AdSense Secrets in that article.
November 16, 2008 at 5:05 am
I Jeremy, I saw you Youtube video made by Problogger. It’s a great tip you said, “We should create content for our readers not for search engine”. Great Tip!
November 16, 2008 at 7:20 pm

I have this issue of this magazine. great article! inspiring to see that you wrote this article from real experience and your reason to push it beyond just google adsense

Read the article… love Website Mag.
Quick read… only thing I wish was for a little personal advice on how to make at least $20-50/day from adsense
November 18, 2008 at 11:19 am
I’m squinting trying to read it from the screenshot, lol. Good stuff
November 18, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Yeppers, good article. Like Brian Clark of Copyblogger has said, Adsense is blogger welfare. But, hell, I still use it.
[among other things, of course]

I like Website Magazine as it’s very well targeted. I don’t have a problem with other streams of revenue beyond Adsense and have my eye on a couple -thanks to Google being so fickle – but I’m good with Adsens now. It brings in some nice coin each month and is easy to work with.
December 6, 2008 at 5:43 am
I’ll check out your article shoe
December 9, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Congratulations on the article. I know Adsense has changed so much over the years and I am sure it will continue to change as does everything online. Making money online requires marketers to adapt and change right along with it.
July 23, 2009 at 3:53 am
Where can i find your article? I’m new into adsense and can really use all the help and tips you may provide on it. Thanks
