What features do you look for in an affiliate program apart from the pay?Real time statistics, customer service or something else?

I’m trying to promote an in-house affiliate program to super affiliates in the niche that isn’t competitive from a payout standpoint.

Thanks for the newsletter on local affiliates and ppc, it was awesome.

I was wondering if you could touch on how you decide who to target for these programs and how you work the sales process. Do you have a list that someone calls to set appointments? Do you send out emails?

10 zoran November 2, 2008 at 7:53 am

Buzzword “ahead of curve” is very often part of online presentations. I have noticed, by following your blog for years, that you have good feeling and prepare things and really move ahead of curve.

How you do it? Are you relaying only on your feeling or doing some more analytical research?

11 Sohail November 2, 2008 at 7:59 am

Do you invest in real estate and offline businesses? If yes do you think it’s the best time to start investing and pick up real bargains?

12 steve November 2, 2008 at 8:02 am

How do you get and keep a high page rank for a landing page on Google? I was able to obtain the #1 spot for free acai berry with http://www.freeacaiberry.org but after two weeks, Google nocked me way down the list to like 186.
Thanks

14 steve November 2, 2008 at 8:14 am

19 Melvin November 2, 2008 at 8:31 am

Hey just wondering, if you stop the “lucrative” comment contest you are holding each month, do you think the traffic would still be as great as this? or maybe the number of comments? Im not sure most people would still care to comment 10 times on a post.

20 Debo Hobo November 2, 2008 at 8:31 am

If you could only have 3 top money making bloggers in your aggregate news reader who would they be?

What percent does this blog account for your companies total income?

24 JC November 2, 2008 at 9:07 am

I just started a local website design company in Des Moines, what is a great cheap way to market to business without websites? Direct mail, PPC, calling them? Each way tends to have lots of laws in the way between spam and do not call lists.

thanks,

JC

25 Ren November 2, 2008 at 9:18 am

Shoe,
How did you find your legal representative? What’s your recommendation on finding one for a web startup without a lot of funds to spare on this?
Thanks.

29 James November 2, 2008 at 9:48 am

What ratio of your time on a daily and weekly basis should be spent on educating yourself as opposed to working on your projects.

30 James November 2, 2008 at 9:52 am

When you say you host your websites on your own server rack, do you mean you have purchased servers yourself and sent them to a hosting company to put in their server room, or have you got your own servers in your own racks, in your own building, with just a super fast internet connection connected to the building?

31 Dave November 2, 2008 at 9:53 am

I know I’m a noob, but do you know of any handy guide on creating landing pages for newbies? Something like “Landing Pages for Dummies” Thanks!

32 James November 2, 2008 at 10:01 am

When you buy products that are designed for physical health, such as walking shoes, bed mattresses and computer chairs, do you go for the top of the range with all the bells and whistles to ensure you’re giving your back, knees, neck, etc the best support possible or do you think the top of the range is always an overpriced rip off and just go with something cheaper that you think will do just as good a job?

Should these purchases be considered as investing in your health and well-being?

34 Lance Bailey November 2, 2008 at 10:35 am

HEY SHOE where are all the blacks in technology.
I can name a ton of suits who are vp’s or executives for major corporations, but when it comes to being founders or the creative mind behind a website or technology they are usually absent. I know race has nothing to do with it . Its more about exposure.

I am not complaining, but i just notice that at local user groups and code fest I am usually the only black kid there.
how do i expose other to this entrepreneur movement that’s going on online?

Get over it, I know many African Americans that are so computer savvy, you would crap your pants. If Obama is the president, (which we will know in days), I really don’t want to hear another racist African again.

36 Mr. Cranky November 2, 2008 at 10:36 am

For local affiliate marketing, how do you initially approach them? Do you cold call? Do you stop by they office unannounced? Direct mailing?

Thanks!

When starting a brand new company, and creating the financial projections for fund raising… how do you come up with the valuation number?

43 Craig November 2, 2008 at 12:02 pm

Jeremy,

Loved yesterdays newsletter. I have one or two questions about this…

1) How can we actually track this? This is my main concern with this business model – you are relying on the merchant being 100% honest. I think businesses would only report around half of their actual leads. How do you prevent this?

2) Do you sell a ‘final customer’, or just leads. What I mean is, do you do the sale (for example, make an apoointment for the user to see the dentist) or do you just take the users details and pass these onto the dentist?

I have been working with local businesses in my area for around 3 years with internet marketing, but they all want to pay me to manage their marketing. They don’t want to pay for each lead – how can I convert my current clients to go for the new model?

44 Bondox November 2, 2008 at 12:16 pm

When starting a new blog that’s just few weeks old. What advertising method will you recommend one to use. Like me, I am a bit confused. i know you always preach for good content. But is there any other way to boost readership for new blogs?

45 Patrick November 2, 2008 at 12:32 pm

What tips do you have for monetizing a small-niche forum that is large? I’ve contacted everyone in my niche that I can think of, and yet to have any success for direct sales. However, surely someone would want to advertise on the site for 15,000 impressions a day for $50/month.

46 Tushar Dhoot November 2, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Do you believe in Philanthropy? If so, how much of your income do you think you should give, and to who?

Hi Jeremy,

Q1. Do you still have link building done for your projects via traditional directory submissions and the like, or do you just not worry about link building and let the “quality” of the project go viral enough to get quality links on top sites?

Q2. What are some of the non-traditional ways you promote your sites that even us small timers can employ to increase our site popularity?

1) What software or script are you going to use for your newsletter?

3) Is it true your not going to Pubcon because you know that you won’t make it as far in the poker tourney this year?

53 Sandra G November 2, 2008 at 2:09 pm

Hi Jeremy,
I am currently building a community review based site for my niche and I was wondering how to seed it, do I pay people to write reviews and if so, what are the guidelines such as how much to pay per review? Or should I hold a contest, the most quality reviews in a given time period wins something, money or a prize?
