ufc90 Anderson Silva VS Patrick Cote

by Jeremy Schoemaker on October 25, 2008 · 39 comments

Back to back UFC events!  For a true MMA fans this is a pretty stacked card and for newbs to the sport the main even with Anderson Silva should get your attention ;) .

Unlike last weekend I think a lot of these fights will go the distance (minus the main card).  There are tons of world class wrestlers on tonights card

Rich Clementi VS. Gray Manard – Love this match up.  Up in comer and Xtreme Couture trained Gray Manard vs is going to give UFC veteran Rich Clementi all he can handle in this fight.   I look for Gray to take this fight to the ground and ground and pound as much as possible but Clementi is pretty dangerous off his back.  I look for Manard to take this fight by decision.

Tyson Griffin VS. Sean Sherk – Another great matchup of Xtreme Couture trained younger fighter vs the Muscle Shark Sean Sherk.  2 Great wrestlers…  This fight is an absolute must win for Sean Sherk and I look for him to control this fight and win by decision.

Junior Dos Santos Vs. Fabricio Werdum – Junior Dos Santos has never been heard of before to most fans but this guy is a total badass.  This is my underdog pick of the night.  Right now he is a giant 5:1 underdog.   I think this guy will shock the world and knockout Werdum 2nd round.

Thiago Alves Vs. Josh Koscheck -  I am totally partial here because I am friends with Josh Koscheck and have partied with him before.  He is a really cool guy and I will be rooting for him.  Its going to be a massive challenge against Thiago Alves who is coming off of a huge upset win over Matt Hughes.  I will go with Koscheck by decision.

Anderson Silva Vs Patrick Cote – I have only seen Anderson Silva have problems twice in his career.  Once against BJJ Blackbelt Travis Lutter and against Dan Henderson. Both excellent ground fighters.  Cote will stand with Anderson Silva and while he has a punchers chance… its not much of one.  I am going with Anderson SIlva by TKO (right hand) 2:22 of round 1.

I’ve only watched one UFC event before and it was a long drawn out but completely amazing fight between two tough guys.

Cote is the underdog but I feel he can pull out a upset in this one…

Anderson Silva, that’s my boy, it should be an easy fight, I don’t think anybody could beat him at this moment.

I usually indulge in UFC PPV when I see Season One fighters of Ultimate Fighter. This is one of those.

I like how after Darren of ProBlogger posts about using the pop-up for RSS Subscriptions, John, Shoe, and many others start using it.

I just noticed that too Patrick. I’ve used the pop-up a little. I haven’t decided if I like it for our site or not.

Thanks for posting about it here Patrick, I’ll definitely need to try this out on one of my websites. Unfortunately I use Feedburner so I’ll have to figure out a different way to get this to work!

Yup, good point, I think it’s a good idea, but really not worth it unless you actually use your mailing list (Chow doesn’t at this point….)

I love that you’re taking a shoe out of Problogger’s book, Shoe, but can you please turn off the pop-up newsletter thing.

Silva won. He was joking around a lot though. He’s a funny guy.

Shoe,
I think you did your best here with these picks. If you had not picked the Kos fight with your heart and picked with your head you could have been 100%.

Way to go!

Yeah! Nearly 100%! Next time there’s a fight I’m coming here to get the tips before I bet! Rock on!

I thought that Silva’s match was very boring. I think Gray Maynard shows a lot of promise though.

I hope you put down some money Shoe – those predictions turned out pretty accurate!

Not sure I was happy with the Sherk/Griffin Decision (was the 30-27 judge watching the same fight??) – but that was a great fight.

Was surprised at Maynard’s dominance too – Clementi never seemed to have a chance.

And really, Cote was probably lucky it ended like that so he could at least leave with some dignity and respect – it was going to be another Rich Franklin job within the next two rounds.

Can’t wait for 91!!

That Silva/Cote fight was pretty boring.

I thought Silva was going to knock Cote out in the first round, but it didn’t happen because Silva was so damn cautious.

I think Cote did the best he could against such a monster.

Silve-St. Pierre or Penn-St.Pierre are the fights I really want to see.

Oh, and anyone Fedor is trouncing lately would be awesome. I bet Tim Sylvia thought his whole head exploded during that fight.

My cable went out right when UFC 90 came on. It was out until the main fight, which was kind of disappointing.

Watched the replay a day or two later–gotta love UFC.

Patrick Cote deserves a rematch, saying that anderson silver should of put on a better fight for a champion.
