I cant believe we are less then 10 days away from the election.
I have always been a political junkie. I love the way politics works. Its a long the same lines of how religeon facinates me. Such a study of psychology and how to get people to do what you want them to do (believe your beliefs, give you money, vote for you, etc etc).
For the first time in my life I am pretty disgusted with our voting population. Not for the way they are voting but rather for what they are putting up with from their elected leaders. No matter what source you look at congress has the lowest approval rating in history. But what are we going to do about it? Do you even know who your congressman is? Do you know how they voted on this recent bailout? Do you know even who is on your ballot in 9 days?
You probably do not and that pisses me off.
When times are tough is when we need to step up and do what it takes to get back on the right path. You work hard for your money and your elected leaders are wasting it and laughing in your face.
I feel like we are a country with no leader. W on the way out and who knows who is coming in. I am actually still undecided.
There are many things I like about both canidates and negative things. I honestly think about this every day and go back and fourth.
So I would like to here from you who you are voting for for president and why?

New president is elected in the United States & prices of gas go way down after a very public monetary raping of the average citizens of the US.
Now you are saved by your ‘choice’ (sarcasm). You can forget about hybrid cars while you provide an on taxpayer backs bailout of the car companies who somehow forgottenly made billions off of overpriced SUV’s for 10 years, but who now need a bailout somehow begging for ‘billions or bankruptcy’ from their private jets.
But now you are ’saved by voting’…yah right & I got a bridge I can sell you in Brooklyn.
This is an economic ripoff cycle…we rip you off, then we let off for awhile, so you can rest & forget that prices still inched upwards, but ‘they are better then $4.50 a gallon by golly!!!” so I guess we don’t need more efficient cars. In the 1970’s we gave the car companies a chance to redeem themselves & the govt gave them a 20 year timeline to fix cars & get mandatory better mileage. 30 years later gas mileage on average is worse. Now we are supposed to save them or America will collapse. lol Obama is the same as McCain a guy who won’t change things too much. Corporations can get behind a guy like that 100%.
You need to re-check your time-line, genius. Gas prices were dropping before the election and still are. You don’t seem to have any idea of how gas prices work. Ever hear of supply and demand? An election has no effect on it… but people driving way less because of gas prices sure does.
Or did you really think the billionaire oil companies just decided to have a big happy gas sale to celebrate the election of a socialist that would like to redistribute their wealth?
Mike,
Yes, I agree the oil companies do have a sale just before the election because they understand people are driving less & people start talking about driving more efficient vehicles. I dont disagree with that. But, if you dont see that oil & other consumer prices are totally manipulated regardless of supply & demand you might be the ‘real genius’ sarcasm intended. Gas & consumer prices falls after a economic raping of the average citizen. Just because lowering of prices happened just before an election doesnt mean corporations loved all the Internet chatter about 3rd parties & government backed debtless currency.
Supply & demand has something to do with it, but people have been financially whipped by corporate welfare even before the bailout.
Just because you are confident in your ill education doesnt mean you are a genius. American’s are like an aging boxer that is riding on a great fight reputation from the beginning of his career. He forgets what a joke he has become, so he can be confident & ‘feel good’. Like you.
You just said the election brought gas prices down and I reminded you that it didn’t. Now you think oil companies really were having a pre-election gas sale? Screw actual time-lines… don’t let that interfere with an agenda!
It’s hilarious because I even said to my a while before the election, “I’m glad the prices dropped now, so the Obama idiots don’t try stealing the credit for it.”
People weren’t driving less because of the election. That’s retarded, but nice try at re-adjusting your story.
You don’t have to throw in the general American-bashing to prove that your an idiot–the rest of your crap makes it plenty obvious.
Here’s a crazy prediction: Your next reply where you pretend to be smart won’t be half as witty as you’ll think it sounds in your head.
Mike,
How you possibly derived any of what you just responded with shows your true self just fine by my requirements. Good reading skills.
You make my job easy.
Hey, look, it only took you three sentences to say nothing.
Shouldn’t you be doing something productive like re-writing history to fit your BS stories?
Did you figure out supply and demand yet, or are you sticking with the story that oil companies predicted the future and lowered gas prices to celebrate the incoming socialist that wants to redistibute their wealth?
Maybe you can work it backwards even further. I remember when gas was under $1… was that in preperation for Obama’s victory as well?
Mike you are one creepy overly confident guy.
History has already happened.
It is so nice to see so many comments in this post.
I thought too many people were impolitical.
I am too still undecided, I got the letter from the RNC I can’t wait to vote this Tuesday the 18th
Obama is leader of US!
Clinton people are powerful too.
Being non-American myself, I hope that the new administrationd don’t commit the same mistakes of the old one because USA’s role affect many nations too not only the american society.
Wow! The team a new president is very doubtful if honestly. That’s all the Clinton people. …
I know its very late to comment on this post, but i m sort of lost in the crowd being a McCain supporter. His speech on losing the elections was really moving.
The elections have come to an end! And Barack Obama wins!
Change has come to America.
This year that same issue pissed me off too. We complain and complain and complain about our country and what we want, but when we vote, if we vote, we don’t have the slightest clue who we’re voting for. No one does any real research. And no one knows who else is one the ballot. And we say it’s because we just don’t have the time to find out, or don’t care to.. Really?
People use to travel for more than 24 hours on horse to go and vote. They would vote (on Tuesday, which is why that’s voting day) then rest an travel back on Wednesday. This would give them time for church on Sunday, travel mon, and vote tues, then travel wed. We have everything handed to us and yet we still don’t take care of business.
Personally, I don’t feel like either one of them deserve the office.
Well we now have a new leader.. Let’s see if he can turn things around..
I think barack obama with his program will be a good usa president…..need time for that
VERY inspiring opinion! I voted for Obama myself, and knew over a year ago.
Works42.com
The country gained a new leader. Cool!
I’m sorry Shoe, I love ya, but can’t for the life of me understand how you or any American could possibly be undecided ten days before the election. We have been bombarded with campaigning on every television station for the last 21 months. The undecideds scare the crap out of me. What exactly are you waiting for to decide???
I am voting for Ron Paul I know he has no chance but maybe he will get a chance next time. Why did they chose him he was the only canidate I saw the people ask for. I am voting out the senators and congress men/wman that voted for the bail out I think it was wrong for them to give that much money to the banks even after lots of voters called include me to demand that they vote no on the bail out. They do not listen to the people any more. it should be easyer to push them out of office if we don’t like them. lets make a law that will make easy for us to remove them form office if they don’t listen to the people!
All the best my friend..
I’ve seen too many voting related documentaries
I voted early (Oct. 28th) for McCain. I’m certainly not goo-goo over him but I feel the alternative is more wasteful spending by democrats. This election is really a party vote as neither of the candidates feels like a real leader to me.
Ben, how did you come to the conclusion of “more wasteful spending by democrats”? Care to name off some wasteful spending that Obama has proposed?
Are you telling me that you support how Bush, McCain and the Republicans have been using our money? If you do, you’re a glutton for lies and bad economy.
Sorry I wasn’t precise, I was talking about platform differences between Republicans and Democrats. There is certainly wasteful spending on both sides but at least Republicans (most of the time) show some restraint when increasing the size of government. Democrats show less restraint. I like less government, I don’t love either of the candidates, so I’m going to vote Republican. I think someone should just form the Demopublican Party.
Good point about the “Demopublican Party”. Not that that is the saving grace, but we have to stop thinking party and start thinking issues…
Who’s gonna take care of business. It’s also not just the Presidents.
It’s the local and state reps that we need smart voting for too.
Sorry about the dupe posting….
I could not disagree more. I think you are buying into media sensationalism. In response: I wrote on this topic on my blog:

I am not an American but will not vote. Obama seems to be a better candidate than McCain. The only thing in McCain’s favour is that he is against Abortion, which for me is an important issue (I am a Catholic).
From an Economic and foreign relations point of view, Obama seems better, more diplomatic and more likely to go to extremes.
How can you be undecided? There’s really not anymore information you need to get go look at mccain’s plan and look at obama’s plan. Whichever you think will benefit the country you vote for them.
I am for Obama for a multitude of reasons namely that he is inspiring head coach that has attracted an impressive starting line up. His financial advisers are Warren Buffet and Paul Voker. Need I say more on economic matters?
Muzik?
You could honestly look back on the last 8 years and talk about being scared of Obama because of spending?
Are you serious?
Thank you rohan. If anything, people should be scared of continuing this Bush legacy. If you vote for McCain, you’ll help continue this horrible legacy. McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time in 2007: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/is_it_true_john_mccain_voted_with.html
Shoe,
I am really having a hard time believing that you are undecided. Perhaps you were doing a little “fishing with dynamite”. I could be wrong, but if I’m not, I have to compliment you – brilliant move…
Yes, I know who my Congressman is – it’s Mike Pence, and he is one of the few House members who voted “NO” to the bailout plan. Go Mike!
Shoe, I have read your blog for some time, and I am actually surprised that you are still on the fence. You always seem to have a strong opinion – one way or the other.
Although I am no fan of McCain, he will be getting my vote this November. We Americans have already handed over too much power to our federal government, and this problem will only worsen with Obama as president. The government has shown time and time again that it is incapable of responsibly managing our tax dollars. Individual rights are stripped away on the premise of national security. Most of the people in Washington D.C. are out of touch with their constituents. I don’t want “change” – I want reform!
No, I do not think McCain will bring this reform, but the kind of “change” that Obama promises to bring to Washington is far from the type of change that is needed.
Economic stagnation. Huge government spending increases (Obama has pledged over $4 trillion in new spending). Low & middle class tax cuts didn’t happen as promised. I feel that everything stems from the economy; strength in military, leverage in international negotiations, ability for people of all income levels to thrive. I do not think Obama – and Pelosi & Reed in Congress – have a clue about what capitalism means and that scares the holy hell out of me.
Obama understands capitalism, and he is for capitalism. His tax plan is based on a progressive taxation model which has existed in our country since the beginning.
In most western European countries and the United States, advocates of progressive taxation tend to be found among the majority of economists and social scientists who realize that completely proportional taxation is not even a possibility. In the U.S., the vast majority of economists (81%) support progressive taxation.
You claim that low & middle tax cuts didn’t happen as promised by Obama…are you joking? He’s not even president yet. You do realize that his plans are not effective until he becomes president right?
I don’t think you have any clue about what you’re talking about. You probably get your “fair and balanced” news from Fox News.
LOL! Good Luck…you need it!
Re: “Obama understands capitalism, and he is for capitalism.”
Maybe on Opposite Day, but every other day he seems to be a socialist that’s all for redistribution of wealth.
Mike, do you even understand Obama’s tax plan? If so, why would you oppose a plan that helps 95% of U.S. people? Why do you support McCain’s plan that gives bigger tax breaks to the wealthy?
Re: “If so, why would you oppose a plan that helps 95% of U.S. people?”
Claiming to help 95% of the people, who don’t even need help, because the rich are already picking up their slack.
The top 10% of the rich are already flipping the bill for all the losers out there. Poor people should be thanking them.
I voted for Obama/Biden. I think Biden could have been better at the debates, but Palin is an idiot. Anyone who attacks Obama’s lack of experience should remember that if McCain keels over, Palin is holding the reigns. I don’t know what McCain was thinking. I liked his military experience and time in government in general and was on the fence for a while, but if there was any doubt, Palin sealed it.
I mailed out my early ballot last week.
I agree. The woman looks stupid. I think its failure severely affected the reputation of McCain.
OBAMA i feel he is going in right way people will vote for him for sure …he is concentrating first on his country later others thats good thing
This year I will be checking the none of the above box(it would be nice if it were included) Neither party has given us a worthy choice in this election.
“A Country With No Leader” What we done to reach that point.
OOP’s I forget BUCH!!!
The most important thing is to vote next tuesday. I hope the next president will save this country from the recessionary hole it is definitely going to..
To Peter Venkman,
Don’t worry about me sitting down. I’ll be sitting down in 8 days celebrating the return of this country to some semblance of sanity. All while “miss bridge to nowhere” and Mr. “against torture before he was for it” drown in their own tears.
From Katrina, to water-boarding, to domestic spying, to the Iraq war,
to Abu graib, to Guantanamo, to Terry Schiavo, to the Abramofs and Stevens, to the wide bathroom stances, to the more and more intrusion into the lives of Americans under the guise of protecting our freedom.
To the anti-intellectualism-the Palins and the 150K dress allowances, I mean it’s nothing short of a joke. Not to mention the cry of socialism from those who have overseen the largest distribution of wealth UPWARDS that this country has ever seen.
Anyhow, makes no difference. Good bye and good luck Republicans. It’s over.
Sweet, from the Czars to the Communist party.
Jason,
Our viewpoints are different on a few different areas
but, you are one of the few out there with an accurate view of
of how corrupt our government is. Voting for two parties like it’s a choice…. I have to laugh at that. Any president who tried to get rid of
central banking got assassinated soon after (JFK/ Lincoln) or it was attempted (Andrew Jackson).
People are so ill educated by mainstream textbooks…that they don’t even know that things like that happened in the United States.
Check out the free book “War is a racket” by Major General Smedley Butler. The most decorated Marine up until his death. You probably never heard about him.
Then check google “The Bonus Army” & read how Douglas Mc Carthur & Patton shot & wounded veterans & family members who peacefully assembled in Washington DC. Eisenhower was there when it happened. Butler warned FDR of a fascist industrialist conspiracy that tried to overthrow the govt. That was investigated & found to be true & still nothing was done to the conspirators. Why? Because FDR was probably part of it, seeing as his father was one of the schemers involved with getting the ‘Federal Reserve’ started by 13 international banks.
The United States is ‘owned’. Pick between two parties…it doesnt matter who you pick as long as it doesnt represent any real change. Obama’s change is a joke as would be McCains. We are indentured consumerist debt slaves.
Hi Jeff, you seem awesome, and I’d love to talk to you more. Please email me at jasonsieckmann@hotmail.com
You are worried about Palin’s 150k wardrobe, yet you don’t seem to care about how Obama got MILLIONS from Iraqi oil billionaire Nadhmi Auchi in order to by a nice estate in Chicago!
SIT DOWN ONCE AGAIN. You have no valid arguments.
If you think your party or candidate is any better than the other, you are FOOLISH.
I think alot of people care, but are too lazy to do anything about it, or they don’t think that they will be big enough to matter.
There is definitely power in numbers! And with the internet, it’s a whole lot easier to gain those numbers.
numbers don’t guarantee anything other than more massive stupidity. You’ll note the survival rates on livestock.
I refuse to read what is above because I have already voted and this election has jumped the shark for me personally. I voted for Obama/Biden for many reasons. I consider myself a liberal, but will vote for anyone of any party that I agree with more. I chose Obama because of his stances on issues like abortion, gay rights, health care, unnecessary war, taxes, and so many other things. Do I agree with him 100%? Of course not. Is there some liability there for his lack of experience yes. But I would be a hypocrite screaming “give me a chance” in the work place and not give him one. I like to think that I have much to contribute to any workplace, and would like people to consider my talent, personality, and ethics along with past experience. Sometimes experience is not everything, just like a person with a degree from the school of life can out do a Harvard MBA if it’s the right person.
I disagree with the way McCain is running his campaign, his statements on Iraq in the past, and his choice of running mate. He stood a chance by selecting someone like Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) to be the female. Instead he played the looks card, and that gives me no confidence in his skills to make tough decisions. I think McCain is a great American, a wonderful Senator, and has done many bi-partisan things to help the nation. But I do not think he is the right man to run this country at this juncture. He has let typical politics take over ever more than normal, and it’s time for a change. I have to believe that the US can change and I just don’t think he can support that.
And yes Jeremy, I know who I voted into the Senate this time around, and I know how my Rep voted. I’m one of those people that looks everything up before I get to the polls. I can’t vote straight party with a good conscience.
So there is your answer. Just for you. Really don’t care what others think because it’s my vote, no one elses. We have to make our own educated decisions. If we were all alike this country would be boring.
So you want:
1)Government to run healthcare which will lead to lesser quality care. What makes you think they are good at running ANYTHING?
2)Private businesses to be required to pay for healthcare or get fined.
3)People to pay for others’ healthcare.
Nobody has ANY RIGHT to something that someone else provides. The Constitution says life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. It does not append “*paid for by others” to it.
How people like Obama’s healthcare plan is beyond logic.
same with McCain’s plan. The trouble, is that there is a ‘plan’ in the first place.
Agreed. The only plan should be to open up the healthcare industry and overhaul or remove the FDA.
As a former U.S. Marine and someone who has been studying these candidates… I am going to have to say I am voting McCain. There are just too many bad associations with Obama, and the fact that he attended that racist church for so long really upsets me and makes me wonder how much of it he believes.
Besides, I think everyone needs to watch this first:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWTs1YyhFRg
What do the marines (other than the fact that my money is being wasted on them) have to do with this election? Do you have a lot of original thoughts, or should you consult your commander first?
Joanne
Out of 42 presidents only 20 have more experience than Obama has now, but don’t let the facts get in the way of your talking points.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-k-wilson/only-22-presidents-had-mo_b_132475.html
Obama’s experience in state and national politics also exceeds that of Ronald Reagan (eight years as governor), Jimmy Carter (four years in state senate, four years as governor), Dwight Eisenhower (no political experience), and Harry Truman (10 years as US senator, one year as vice president).
Joanne wrote:
‘To me, he comes across as extremely self serving, very naive in his choice of associates, highly narcissistic and arrogant. ”
Why don’t you just say “uppity” ?
And you’re not sure he has the best interest of the country at heart?
Just wow!
Could you have used a more slanted, leftist, and elitist source of information for your post?
Did you even look at the results?!?!??!
Who has had little to no experience:
1)Chester A Arthur
2)HERBERT FUCKING HOOVER
3)William Taft
4)Zachary Taylor
NICE COMPANY THERE!!!! ESPECIALLY HOOVER!
Your article says:
“Obama’s experience in state and national politics also exceeds that of Ronald Reagan (eight years as governor), Jimmy Carter (four years in state senate, four years as governor), Dwight Eisenhower (no political experience), and Harry Truman (10 years as US senator, one year as vice president).”
ABSOLUTELY ABSURD! You are telling me that 8 years of state senator and 3 as US senate > 8 years as GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA or TRUMAN’s 10 senate and 1 VP?
SIT THE FUCK DOWN TROLL.
lol
I am a disgusted and fed up Democrat, proud PUMA member and will be giving my vote to Senator McCain and Governor Palin. Sentaor Obama is far to inexperienced to responsibly handle all the tough issues our country is facing at this moment. To me, he comes across as extremely self serving, very naive in his choice of associates, highly narcissistic and arrogant.
Senator McCain has this countries best interest at heart, which he has already proven. I’m not so sure that Obama does. Govenor Palin has the executive experience needed to be Vice President. They make a great team.
does PUMA know you’re such a collectivist? When were you an individual last?
Donkeyphant. Socialist policies? the fact that you use that phrase shows that you’ve been brainwashed. You mean socialist policies like that bailout that both candidates just voted for? Or socialist policies like Mccain’s plan to buy up everybody’s bad mortgages. Or maybe social policies that redistribute wealth to rich people (the same tax cuts that Mccain was against before he was for them).
Gettoutta here with that.
The party that alienates blacks, hispanics, immigrants, gays and lesbians, intellectuals, and thinking people around the world. You can’t escape what a vote for republicans (and especially the neo-cons that run mccain’s campaign) really say.
Funny that Obama voted for the bailout too.
Every Democrat policy for minorities ends up hurting the very people they are trying to help. Intentions are NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
I just heard an audio of Obama talking about how the Constitution has no flexibility and how it tells gov’t they can’t do this and they can’t do that.
THAT IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Obama IS definitely A SOCIALIST. You only need to listen to his own words to figure that out.
Anyone that thinks that government or the candidate they vote for is going to help their life is simply foolish.
Yawn, third party= Dr. Pepper
Dr. Pepper is good. RC Cola would have been more effective.
How can you understand most of the flaws with both parties (and have same ideas as several 3rd party candidates), yet shit on them?
You want gold backed currency don’t you?
Because there is nothing to gain from a third party. Government is not capitalism; it doesn’t get better through a great deal of competition; it just gets fixed and no one can compete.
How do you propose we go about shrinking the size and influence of the federal government then?
We know that having a system where there are only two viable candidates- a socialist and a neocon- certainly isn’t going to get us there.
I think people are ready to give both major parties the boot, but they still feel that they have to vote for the lesser of two evils.
Why wouldn’t competition have any impact?
I voted for McCain. Not because I truly believe in him. But more because the socialist policies of Obama scare me and those of McCain don’t scare me as much.
What we really need is a valid third party that can actually compete. Without that, we just get stuck with a diet version of one party.
And besides, anyone that can vote for republicans at this point deserve what they get. They’ve been on the wrong side of history on every major issue this country has faced.
From the civil rights act, to gay and lesbian rights, to tortue, to extraodinary rendition, to domestic spying, to laxed regulation, to stem cell research, to the environment..I could go on.
And the backwash of the American populace that voted for these things for the 2nd bush term, are now lining up to do it again with Mccain.
Ask yourself this: If things were reversed and it was Obama who graduated at the bottom of his class and cheated on his wife, and crashed 5 airplanes, would you vote for him?
These men are simply
If you voted for Clinton then you cannot possibly be influenced by fidelity. The fact that you keep including it says more than anything else.
It is called life experience. The best decisions come from people that have failed.
Holy crap, you are a complete idiot. Did you seriously just call all republicans “American Backwash”? Seriously?
Move to France you socialist.
Have you ever lived under socialism? You sound like a brainwashed
American tool. You probably believe that Russia got rid of communism
because it was a economic ‘failure’. Russia got rid of communism
because Gorbachev was bought off by the west & handed the country over to corporations.
There was a very happy bunch of people during communism in Russia.
Now people are mean & snarky (like most Americans)under capitalism.
Always cut costs, make work harder & harder to buy more breakable shit they dont need. Why? In the name of individualism thru consumerism. You sound like a hard working consumer robot.
Jeff, it’s obvious you have no understanding of what comes with communism. And while everyone appeared to be “very happy” under communistic rule, you forget to mention what happens when they complain (Ex. Imprisonment, exile, torture, or even murder).
If you want to make a claim that the “West bought off Gorbachev” then I would like to see you back that up with PROOF. That’s the thing about you conspiracy theorists… it’s rarely backed up with facts, all THEORIES.
Communism suppresses the imaginations and growth of a country because it lacks the ability to reward good ideas, inventions, and business. In turn, an economy as a whole grinds to a halt in a cloud of stale depression and low morale. Do some research on other Communist governments and you will see the trends are very similar.
I will make this a last post to you ….because it is OBVIOUS you are
the type of person who probably uses google or western history books
too much to ‘educate’ themselves about how evil communism is based on
terrible leaders like Stalin & not other time periods under communism
which were great.
As to your other baby’s thought that “”very happy” under communistic
rule, you forget to mention what happens when they complain (Ex.
Imprisonment, exile, torture, or even murder).”
You are obviously raised on dopey tv & 5th grade civics pablum to
think that is not what also happens in The United States if you really
complain & go against the consumerist corporatocracy & private central
bankers.
Then your quote here:
“Communism suppresses the imaginations and growth of a country because
it lacks the ability to reward good ideas, inventions, and business.
In turn, an economy as a whole grinds to a halt in a cloud of stale
depression and low morale.”
should be rewritten to say:
Capitalism kills the majority of family units at the expense of
throttling & stressing the worker to within an inch of their life
unless they keep producing & for the benefit of very low wages & low
vacation time to benefit the family.
They enrich the originator of the idea by 100’s of times in comparison
to their very low benefit for which they give their life in return &
the owner of the idea would not benefit at all if the worker did not
exist.
IN TURN, the economy is based on greed, lying, exploiting fellow human
beings, killing & exploiting foreign lands for the benefit of a very
small few…. resulting in low trust, low morality, over-enriched ego,
entitlement, dopiness & sloth.
My suggestion would be that you anti conspiracy theorists go out &
meet some people who lived under a
civil form of communism & who have positive views about it. It may
take sometime, but ask & don’t preload
the question like “Communism sucks & you all drink vodka right?” then
you may get an answer that surprises you.
Don’t walk through life like a robot. It’s a waste.
Next your excuse will be that I am weak, poor, lacking innovation &
etc., to support your rationalizations about how I could possibly
support a humane brand of communism or socialism.
I am none of the above & have a great business in Las Vegas, but it
doesnt stop me from comparing my
earlier life to how people live now. When you are born & raised in a
rat cage….you get used to the rats (Democrat or Republican).
Jeff
I like how people that can’t focus on anything important are grasping at age discrimination, Sarah being a woman, etc…
I guess it’s no worse than all of his “Vote Black” supporters.
I personally think Obama will win the election. McCain’s too old to start leading America. It really is time for change.
Every Presidential candidate promises change. If you look hard enough, you can see past the bullshit.
So, Peter, stop talking trash about other people and look past your own bullshit then.
Thanks.
My vote goes to Chuck Baldwin. The two party system has become exposed as a scam to enslave the people while giving them the illusion of having a say in things. IMO Baldwin, Nader and Mc Kinney are the only truly legitimate candidates left on the ballot. Our founding fathers organized America so the President and Congress would be our humble servants, not our leader, ruler or boss. Sad what’s become of it all.
BTW I know who my congresswoman and senators are, they all voted for the bailout scam and I severely chastised them for it and will not be voting for any of them to come back. I vote for them to be chased with pitchforks, tarred, feathered and hung from the highest rafters of the White House along with all the other jackbooted thugs involved.
We don’t need no stinkin’ leader.
We just need to be able to peaceably go about our business unhindered.
Re: “My vote goes to Chuck Baldwin.”
No it doesn’t. Your vote is going to whoever you hate more out of McCain or Obama.
That’s called, “reality.”
I want a leader who is going to be around a while and have to live with his decisions. Not someone who most likely won’t be around to see a decision fully implemented.
I want a leader who is going to park his car, get out, and sit down at the table for a while and eat what he orders. Not someone who is going through the drive-through placing orders from a hearse.
“Who cares about history? We’ll all be dead.” – George W Bush on his ruling philosophy and it showed. That’s what we got in government and financial leaders. No consequences because they can eventually go home behind a gate.
I don know which one should i choose because i’m not US citizen, but most ppl in your country are choosing Obama right?! but choosing depend on what major popularity are not recommended so choose with your heart schoe
Candidate A is married to his first wife.
Candidate B cheated on his wife and then left her.
Candidate A graduated the top of his class at harvard.
Candidate B graduated at the bottom of his class. 894 out of 899.
Candidate A was against this bullshit Iraq war from the start.
Candidate B was all for this adventure that has cost the u.s it’s standing in the world, it’s moral highground, thousands of American lives, and near a trillion dollars.
Seriously, if you’re still undecided after all this, you’re probably in that group that voted for George Bush again in 2004. I’m talking to you Shoe.
One candidate sticks his finger up to see which way the wind blows before weighing in.
The other doesn’t
Even with so many facts that point to Obama as being a better choice, many people are still glued to McCain. The reality is: many people in this country are still not ready for a black president. If our country was only presented with facts and the policies of the candidates, and never shown their faces, this election would not be as close as it is now.
This election is only close BECAUSE OBAMA is part black.
People want to be a part of history. If it is wrong, they can say they were still part of history and that they weren’t the only ones.
Sad fact- if he wins, he is going to fuck it up for the next black President.
Peter, You’re joking right? Do you live in the U.S. or are you in some far-away fairy tale land? Who the fuck is gonna vote for a president just to be a part of history. You obviously don’t feel the same struggles as most people in this country.
SHUT THE FUCK UP. Having a better personal life on paper does not make a good leader.
You are Democrat, yet you support Ted Kennedy WHO KILLED A WOMAN AND LEFT HER TO DIE AT THE BOTTOM OF A POND. You support Bill Clinton who LIED UNDER OATH and WAS IMPEACHED. You support Robert Byrd who was RECRUITING FOR THE KKK during WWII while most good men were fighting Nazis and making sure you aren’t speaking GERMAN today.
Furthermore, Obama was against the war because he was getting money from Rezko and IRAQI OIL BILLIONAIRE Nadhmi Auchi for a million dollar house in exchange for not supporting any war funding measures. (http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/03/obamas_iraqi_oil_for_food_conn.html)
Get a clue!
Shut the Fuck Up, Peter! Don’t tell no one to STFU. You’re the only one who should keep quiet around here, and stop spreading your propaganda for the Nazis.
I find it ironic that you say that I’m “spreading Nazi propaganda” when just above, in the post you replied to, I pointed out that a LEADER of the party YOU SUPPORT was in fact partaking in KKK/Nazi activity while good men defeated the Nazis.
The only thing that I have posted about is shrinking the size and scope of government. NOTHING Nazi about that.
You sir, are a fucking idiot. You probably aren’t used to people using free speech to tell the truth about your party.
I’ve posted about the flaws with both parties. You, on the otherhand, are a blind sheep.
Candidate A is married to his first wife.
Candidate B cheated on his wife and then left her.
Candidate A graduated the top of his class at harvard.
Candidate B graduated at the bottom of his class. 894 out of 899.
Doesn’t get much easier.
one candidate has experience. the other doesn’t
one candidate lays his associations on the table for all to see. The other candidate ignores the question
Real capitalist entrepreneurs do not support the existence of the state or political power. We support the free market and free exchange of goods and ideas without the interference of bureaucrats. We do not condone the state and therefore do not consent to it by participating in electoral politics.
And thats the real deal.
Goddamn RIGHT.
Politics always spark discussion here but over 300 comments, damn man!
the socialist party bc all probs stem from the unequal and inequitable distribution of income. i also would not mind 30g dollar checks in the mail every year
Then you would also not mind paying your share of the national debt? It’s only $34,536.63 and growing…
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
im sure bush could handle the whole deal, heez reeech!
You think your political system is boinked, try living in Canada. Over the last few years long serving members forced to go through nomination votes for candidacy due to boundary changes, and guess where those politicians are now, writing the occasional column in the paper, after serving at one level of politics or another for like 30 years. People that have worn their pride of this country on their sleeve. That was the deputy PM. The best finance minister the country has seen in, well, pretty much ever, ends up prime minister and tanks spectacularly. He didn’t run in the recent election. What do we have left, a bunch of inexperienced dumbells that shoot their lip and think later, a bunch of real right wing rednecks, and what will undoubtedly be another couple of years of a lame duck government. I miss the 90’s, even if I am a little more leftist than the government of the day then. They still served the people as a whole far better than the shit we’ve been stuck with for the last few years.
Voter turnout was at an all time historic low for our last election. It’s nice to see that at least voters in the US look to be about to turn out in record numbers. Even if they don’t understand who or what they’re voting for, at least they’re doing it.
Isn’t employing more military members also a sign of wealth redistribution? You pay taxes for those people to work, don’t you? Why do we need so many soldiers when we aren’t going to win either war? Why do we need such a large military when we have nuclear bombs and we won’t even fight a country as crappy as North Korea for that same reason? Isn’t subsidizing farmers redistributing wealth? McCain voted for that; so did Obama.
Yes, and Obama wants to turn our military into community service personnel.
Even worse re-distribution! It isn’t community service if it is paid for.
I’d love to get rid of the IRS jobs first.
Jeremy, does it honestly matter who is elected after Bush ??
Here is some food for thought. Gather ALL of the presidents that came before W Bush and add ALL of the debt they added to the bottom line COMBINED (adjusted for inflation to 2004 of course)… and it’s LESS than G.W.Bush has managed to add to the debt ALL ON HIS OWN!
Quote from G.W. recently – I’ll be remembered as the president unafraid to go to war.
Wrong – it won’t be long after elect a NEW president that you’ll start hearing.. “fixing the financial mess we’re in from previous government”. You don’t hear it now from fear of upseting potential voters who like W.
Ford Motors is toast, GM and Chrysler need to merge to survive… even our cars will be nearly 100% foreign… We’re setting up for a period WORSE than the great depresion if you compare our current state with the state before the depression started. So… will it matter who inherits control of making us pay for this debt?
If Obama or McCain don’t do it.. the next president inherits an even BIGGER mess and that pisses me off, my daughter is 1.
I agree. I don’t think either candidate can possibly do a worse job than George Bush. Hopefully it’ll be uphill from here on out.
Dumb logic. Our GDP and productivity is higher than any other time period.
Debt as a % of GDP has been higher for several other administrations. Certainly you would take Bush’s economy over Carter’s or Hoovers!
Our debt is still alarming, but your statement is misleading.
Our GDP and productivity are higher yet the debt doubles, and doubles, and doubles… How much more do we need to produce to reverse this… since you’re brighter than me ?
I never said I was smarter than you. I challenged your misleading information with a fact.
We don’t need to produce more. We just need to cut spending.
Consumer spending is 70% of GDP. The problem with most people that don’t have money isn’t that they don’t make any- it is that they don’t save any.
So nobody saves and our government mortgages future generations with bonds that are to be paid for by taxpayers.
Many top corporations can run well with high leverage because they produce high returns. At some point though, consumer spending cannot prop up the economy.
The socialist policies from camps like Obama’s lead us to believe that taxing the people that pay for the bulk of taxes and our debt is going to solve the problems. WELL IT WON’T!
So are you saying that nobody saves in this country and that our economic crisis is due to the people?
Obama is a dynamic person. He understands our economic situation, and he’s come up with the best plan to help us get out.
You seem to think that McCain’s plan is a change to what Bush has been doing. McCain’s tax plan will put us in a worse situation than we are in now.
Republicans seem to think that somehow by giving more money to the rich that our economy will improve. Are you kidding? It was the greedy rich that got us into this mess in the first place. While the CEOs and executives enjoy the millions of dollars pouring into their bank accounts, the rest of us (95%) are struggling to pay for bills and rent.
You should also remember that under Bush’s administration, the average person’s salary has dropped by $2,000. Give the tax break to the low/middle class, so they can save or spend as they choose. Either way, our economy will improve with Obama.
Obama’s wealth redistribution plan is a clear sign of socialism. No doubt on that. Government running our health program? oh give me a break. They can’t even balance the budget. McCain is no better.
Still undecided here.
Everyone, read Dave Ramsey’s article on this issue.
“Butt Scratching and Bass Fishing”
http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/cms/butt_scratching_and_bass_fishing_10192.htmlc?ictid=htlnk
Obama’s plan erodes at every individuals rights as well. I don’t think either of these candidates can right the sinking financial ship W has left us.
For the third time that I have been able to vote in my life, I am once again voting for the person who I believe is the lesser of two evils. I supported McCain in 2000, which was my first election I could vote in but of course he lost to Bush in the primaries. I still am supporting McCain based on his experience only. Obama has great ideas but I feel he is just another politician making promises he probably can’t keep. And if he can keep his promises, who will pay for all of them? Again, I feel I am voting for the better of two bad candidates yet again.
Leaders are like eagles. We don’t have either of them here.
I went to a town hall meeting the other night and didn’t know about the local candidates we went around the room and asked if you don t know someone what’s the most important 1-2 character traits someone can have
For me::
Its your character( and who you hang with).
What your past record is.
Trust factor.
So for me
Mccain..
Im not thrilled with him but hes ok. And I KNOW he will protect us and I also know he has a USA stamp on his chest, based on gutting it out for 5 yrs as a POW when he could have bailed. Most would have, including me, so hes a brave man. I think he ll protect us better and #1 concern for me is Natl security. All other 10 -11 things take a back seat priority to that, because without that, the economy and abortion and health care all doesn’t even matter.
Obama..
Don’t like who he associates with( Ayers, Acorn, Wright..20 yrs and he denounces him 6 months ago in middle of election.. why start now?
Don t like his credentials.. senate for 143 days. That’s it. Nice to have degrees and all that.. but not enough for most powerful job of the US. Not sure hes even been overseas more than once
He also has little respect for and from the soldiers. They vote Mccain 3 to 1 ( per Military times poll)
Also don t like that 5 world leaders who arent necessarily our best friends( understatement) want Obama, so why do I ?(N Korea,Syria,Iran, venezuala, palistine). That is extremely Disturbing
Also don t like the Speaker Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy or Dean, also don t like the extreme liberal media bias, coupled with left leaning congress.. No one’s left looking out for the folks. That should scare ANY American
Many people go through life with degrees and persona, but what are they really made of and what have they done??
Biden..
EEsshh…… he’s been in senate for a long time. He must know something. Just doesn’t fire me up . Exciting as a 0-0 soccer game. He seems like he’s a bit bitter, and has a lot of slips of the tongue as well
Palin.. I don’t know how people cannot be impressed with her.
Shes a winner at everything she does, regardless of WHERE her degree is from. Not all NFL stars come from the Big 10 or the Pac 10. Underdogs do well in life. She has accomplished a lot in the past 10 years, and quite frankly I don t know about you people, but I’m sick of all the politicians BS. Perhaps she really will attempt to clean up some of the crap that represents us in Washington. Name one politician who really doesn’t look out for their own agenda first? Name one? Perhaps Palin may be one of those who really tries to get BUSINESS people to get the job done, and get rid of the corruption and the lies and the people taking advantage of us citizens.
I know 1 person can’t change an entire establishment overnight, but perhaps she represents hope, and everything has to start somewhere.
I just want someone to address problems and try to get solutions.
Barrack has WAY too many skeletons in his closet and unanswered questions. I’m shocked with what little he’s done that he’s gotten this far. Could be the biggest con job of the people of the U.S. EVER. Better than anything Copperfield, or Houdini could have pulled off. He has gotten more passes from the media that Rice got from Montana. Im dead serious when I say that I know business people that have accomplished more than Barrack has. How this guy may make it to president of the US.. is a headscratcher
Just one dudes opinion.
Ps..I have about 600 hours of research into this election. I wish other voters did the same.. then at least whomever they pull the lever for, its an educated vote
PPs.. if you can’t salute the American flag, 1000% of the time, go run for office in another country.
I am voting Obama. The biggest reason for me are his policies – but I also think he will bring optimism back to our country.
Althought I don’t know much about the US politics, I know the US economy is killing us over here, so hopefully your new leader can ease the troubles.
Obama, but only because Hilary didn’t make it. Would have voted McCain instead of Obama but his less than inspired choice of Palin totally made me wonder about his judgment.
I’d vote for Jesus, but I don’t think He’d accept the position.
If he wanted the position he would have it, unless Chuck Norris also wanted it.
The Liberals wouldn’t allow it – they would say “separation of church and state”!!!
I wish our elected officials were like they are now (weak, and sniveling little thieves), but without the thieving part. That way, they just went with the constitution and shut their mouths.
It’s sad that people are voting for “vision” over experience. What if that vision doesn’t pan out because Obama can’t get it done? What will be his backup plan? “Vision” isn’t good enough here.
If you’re voting for Obama it’s because he’s the complete opposite of Bush in that he’s young, black and articulate and Bush is old, white and stupid. People are sick of Republicans and in a moment of sheer and utter desperation, they will put someone with no financial experience in charge of one messed up economy. They will vote for someone who has never had the guts to serve in the military to be in charge of the most powerful, maybe not the most competent, but most powerful army in the world. This is just nuts.
For those who say that McCain isn’t likely to live out his Presidency, neither is Obama. Go to rural Texas or other rural areas of the south like Louisiana, Mississippi and other places and you will see restaurants that still have signs for “colored restrooms”. There are areas of deep racism in the US and it’s almost a certainty that someone is crazy enough to act on their emotions. It’s not right, but it’s very likely.
As for Palin, she’s right, she does have more experience in an executive position than he is. I swear to God if someone mocks her for being in charge of the Alaska National Guard, they should be whipped. We did just have another 9/11 anniversary and if someone, anyone signs up for any branch of the military, they deserve your respect. Obama is a junior senator and is still getting his feet wet. Sorry but being black isn’t enough and that’s the only reason why he will be elected.
hear hear.
Great post!
Ok…and what if experience isn’t enough? What good is experience if that experience isn’t being used right? And, I hope you’re aware that there are tons of politicians who have lots of experience, but many are corrupt.
I rather go with vision and a commitment to do what is right.
And, you are what they call a reverse-racist.
From a mental health perspective all of us have been given “double messages” for the last eight years. We have been told one thing and experienced quite another. In the field of psychology we once believed that double messages could cause schizophrenia. Today with greater knowledge we know that double messages do not cause schizophrenia but certainly can make us feel really crazy!
We have lost faith in our elected leaders … we want to believe that they are motivated by good motives on our behalf yet we have been constantly shown that what we are told is not what is reality. Thus, no trust and we have become numb from the confusion.
This election, like every election, we are being offered two choices. One man presents as angry, armed and always ready. He has difficulty listening with patience. The other man presents as intellectual and possibly naive; it seems he might listen endlessly without taking action.
Hawk or dove, we will make a choice. However, we are all sceptical, based on the double messages of the past years, that we will not actually get what is being presented as the true candidate.
What’s next?
I wish our elected officials could only have one term and thats it. The problem is that we really don’t expose or hold our politicians accountable. They do their thing and then blame the other party when there is a problem. Our leadership stinks and so do both presidential elects.
In what way exactly does Obama “stink”? I’m tired of people saying “they’re all a bunch of crooks” and using that as an excuse not to vote, or to vote for third parties that actually suck just because they aren’t one of the other two. (Really, take a close look at any third party candidate before you vote for one. There’s a reason so few people takes them seriously. Most of them are unqualified nutjobs.)
There are some good people in politics, people who go into it because they genuinely want to improve other Americans’ lives. It can be hard to figure out who they are, but Obama’s clearly one of them. And he’s smart, level-headed, open-minded, and correct on the major issues. I’ve been wishing someone like him would come along and run for President for a long time.
“genuinely want to improve other Americans’ lives”
IT ISN’T THEIR JOB TO IMPROVE AMERICANS’ LIVES!!!!!!
It is their job to run only what is necessary and NOT FUCK UP Americans’ lives!
State and local gov’t can create policies that will help. Federal gov’t is supposed to be limited.
Surprising that you have all these comments and only 1 trackback.
I should put some dollar signs in my sig.
I’m still undecided too Shoe. For anyone in that boat, I’d recommend watching PBS’s Frontline Documentary “The Choice 2008″. It’s the best overview of the candidates that I’ve seen!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpEpg12kEnc
I’m voting Obama. I wasn’t too keen on the last eight years spent in George Bush’s America, and I certainly don’t want to live in John McCain’s America. I’m firmly entrenched in the middle class and Obama is the best choice for middle class voters.
If you want to read all of my feelings on the subject, check out this post of mine entitled I don’t want to live in a John McCain America.
If you are firmly entrenched in the middle class you probably don’t pay shit for taxes.
I read your post but stopped where you wrote that his tax plan “benefits the wealthy”
The wealthy create jobs and pay the BULK of all taxes.
Quit looking for a handout!
Thanks for checking out my post. I’m sorry to see that you only bothered to read half of it.
I pay my taxes – much more than the eloquent “shit” you suggest. I’m not looking for a handout. I work hard to support my family.
The BULK of this nation is the middle class. The wealthy are a rich minority. Therefore, the bulk of the nation pays the bulk of the taxes.
Rather than having a kneejerk reaction to my blog post, you could have simply looked up a comparison of the McCain and Obama tax plans. Here’s an informative link. I will quote directly from the article.
“McCain: The average taxpayer in every income group would see a lower tax bill, but high-income taxpayers would benefit more than everyone else.
Obama: High-income taxpayers would pay more in taxes, while everyone else’s tax bill would be reduced. Those who benefit the most – in terms of reducing their taxes as a percentage of after-tax income – are in the lowest income groups.”
Again, show me where I was wrong in saying that McCain’s tax plan benefits the wealthy.
Re: “The BULK of this nation is the middle class. The wealthy are a rich minority. Therefore, the bulk of the nation pays the bulk of the taxes.”
You have no idea of what you’re talking about. The rich minority pays the majority of the taxes.
thepoorteacher – YOU ARE LYING!
The top 10% of income taxpayers pay 70% of all federal taxes. The top 1% pay 39%! (http://www.heritage.org/research/features/BudgetChartBook/fed-rev-spend-2008-boc-T4-The-Top-10-Percent-of-Income.html)
Futhermore, WEALTH and INCOME are NOT ONE AND THE SAME.
A family with 2 kids making $250k combined and living in NYC, San Francisco, LA, etc is NOT RICH BY ANY MEANS!
Regardless, any changes to tax policy should benefit the ones paying the most disproportionate % and the most amount anyway.
You are simply clueless. Perfect example of you being a victim of class warfare bullshit the Democrats use to their advantage.
“mccain’s tax plan benefits the rich, whine whine whine”….
If you are a teacher, I sincerely hope you use facts when you influence our youth, unlike your post here.
Re: “thepoorteacher – YOU ARE LYING!”
Of course… but then again, it’s really hard to make an argument for Obama without lying.
It’s amazing how many people here don’t even have a clue. They’re making the “vote black” crowd look like his more intelligent supporters.
Some of the wealthy create jobs, but many of them blow their profits on expensive trips, parties, cruises, and whatever else they could think of.
And that’s their right. If you want to decided what gets done with rich peoples’ money, then become a rich person and give it all to the poor.
I don’t know of anyone that ever said, “I want to be rich and successful so a bloated government can steal more of my money, pocket most of it, then throw a few pennies at poor people that didn’t earn it and don’t deserve it.
I feel the same way, Jeremy. People need to recognize the people in congress who make big decisions (sometimes without public knowledge). As for me, I’m voting for Obama. I feel he’s the lesser of two evils and McCain would basically bring us 4 more years of Bush (considering his voting record).
I am voting for Obama. I run my own business and make well over 250k but I also know that in order to stay in business I cannot have the world economy to fail and most of all I need middle class people with some extra money to spend. Right now clients and customers are going down because people don’t have extra money to spend and even with a slight increase in taxes back to the Clinton years I will actually still make more money. I feel Obama is a genuinely good man and has the leadership skills and judgment to help our country get past these hard times.
That will be one expensive vote then!
You could vote for Obama and pay the increased taxes and be required to pay for healthcare for employees as well…..
OR
Take the money you save with McCain and invest in your businesses or create a new job with a NEW HIRE!
I’m 98% sure that I’m voting for McCain. The fact that Obama thinks 250k should be the top tax bracket scares the crap out of me, and keeping the Bush tax rates in place is the only way to not do further harm to this economy.
Somebody’s got to start paying more. Ten trillion dollars in debt isn’t just going to go away. That debt is George Bush and John McCain’s fault, among other Republicans. (The earmarks John McCain bitches about account for less than 1% of it. The war and tax cuts he supported are about half.) The only question now his who should pick up the tab for the last 8 years of irresponsible economics that only helped the rich. For 8 years, the rich have been getting richer at a steep pace, while incomes for the middle class have completely flatlined.
The entire economy is a natural “spreader of wealth.” Government regulations, interest rates, and taxes determine where the wealth ends up, no matter who’s in charge. For the last 8 years, the government has funneled the growth of new wealth entirely to those who are already wealthy.
Besides, even the rich will do well under Obama. Wealth doesn’t trickle down like Bush/McCain think, but it DOES trickle up. When Obama boosts the fortunes of the middle class, they’ll be spending more and business will improve. You may pay higher taxes, but they’ll be coming out of higher profits and you’re likely to do better in the end.
Nobody has to start paying more. If the USA could just reel more of it’s unjustified expenses, then they could go back and repay their debt. I mean, $600 Billion just for Defense (not counting wars!) is great and all, but it’s too much. The closest country is to them is around $50 billion.
I think it’s extremely misguided to think the US will not continue to their military pursuits under Obama….defence spending has and always will be a fundamental driver of the American economy. By the time
a president reaches office, he has been bought and sold several
times by special interests. The commercials you see on tv promoting
change are being paid for by special interests who want to more of the same so that they can keep their power; and he who controls the money, has the power.
All Gay people in the US are voting for Obama.
that’s 5-10% of the population !!!!
Four years with no president at all doesn’t sound so awfully bad.
Things might just work them selves out all on there own
I’d like to see that.
This problem exists in every country. Why voters elect these people and not others? There are important public relations, advertising, and money.
Mm.. can i copy this post? with links ?:| Thanks.. http://www.you-v.com Good Luck Shoe :p
I’m watching from afar really in UK, so things don’t affect me directly other than whoever you have as president will undoubtedly have some repercussions worldwide.
We have similar problems in the UK, voter apathy. We have a democracy, which to people in some countries could only be dreamed of, yet we seem happy to squander this precious commodity.
Your vote counts; use it. If you don’t vote, then you have no right to whinge about things afterwards.
Hi, so this is shoemoney? cool. it kept popin up in mind so decided 2 chk out link. as on twitter U may know we are 100% for Obama & team.
Why? simple. we-usa do need change to get out of stagnation & move forward. people themself have become complacent. many forgot that governin is a two way process & we r the people who shuld be deciding on the running, implementing progs that we need or decisions, but elected representatives began dictating all & some things became corrupt somewhere & we had lost our voices. we the people think that Obama team walk the talk. they want us to get involved with the process & things to be open. Which is how a true democracy should be because that is our form of govt, free from business & religion. Yet Obama’s ideas of using efficient business methods is good, that is what we need becaus govt has becom too big & probably shut down with paperwork & procedure wen most problems can be fixed in less time, if things were dynamic. It is not about a color, gender but a person. It could have been Hillary or Obama in either VP, PRes etc but they have ideas to update USA because we do not know what is going on. its seemed many people had given up rights,
you need to go to barack obama site or his myspace & see vid clips of his plan. only saw couple of days ago, and was surprised that we shared many ideas, & actually they make sense-common sense. we canot neglect our world & shuld elect individuals who work with the people, we shuldn’t be lazy & think we will let somone else do it, well it is not the same. mean we culd & shuld decide how much to pay in taxes. people just became complacent, maybe usa had grown much, but some past rules may not apply anymore, so that is why it is important that changes happen right now so the future will be free & clear for us, children & beyond. read on McCain too, but he is not wat we need. if we thought he was effective wuld vot Mc but for us no matter what party, we wuld want to vote for the better choice and that is Presidential Candi. Obama & team. Better choice for all even though som don’t know it yet, and we need to clean up our acts becaus we all live here! Go Democrats & this is for the people by the people….:-)thanks
If you select Red for president fill the congress with blue.
If you select Blue for president fill the congress with red.
Yea, that way nothing gets done
What if the whole world could vote?
http://www.economist.com/vote2008/
wow… Looks like Fox news has done a pretty god job of infiltrating your corpus callosum… From Ayres story to a lame comparison of McCain to a surgeon … I see why American’s voted for Bush …not just once but TWICE ! … This is how great empires come to an end when the denizens start brain farting from all the orifices..
I love how people from countries that couldn’t cut it as a pimple on America’s ass talk about it like it’s falling apart.
Shoemoney for president!
The whole world want Obama as US Leader. I think the world don’t want another Warlord as US President!
Feeling very lucky. This is my first I won any lottery/draw! Thanks to Jeremy and Susan.
BTW, I got my T – Shirt email today
Re: “The whole world want Obama as US Leader.”
Another reason not to vote for him.
I didn’t know you are from outside from this world!!
It’s not a world election. It’s a US election.
It shouldn’t matter what the world wants. It should matter who will help USA more.
Luckily, Obama will help the USA more. John McCain won’t even help the USA. He’ll continue Bush’s fuck-ups for 4 more years. He has the same character flaws as a leader, and the same ideology that says you should give more to the rich and the money will magically help everyone.
More money to the rich?
This is the dumbest argument perpetuated by the left.
The ones you deem “rich” pay all the taxes! And a DISPROPORTIONATE amount at that.
I actually voted for Barack Obama. I firmly believe in this man and his ideas. We need a young mind to figure these things out. Mr. Shoemoney you spelled religion wrong. No worries.
It’s been said over and over again, he doesn’t care about is spelling/grammar.
I really don’t get how anyone can still be undecided at this point. I can understand not liking either candidate & deciding not to vote, but being undecided? Come on now.
I’ve been for Obama since back when it was just a “draft Obama” movement. His famous speech in 2004 prompted me to read his books and all the objective biographies I could find, and I’m convinced that he’s potential Mount Rushmore material.
Barack Obama is really, really, really smart. Multiple professors at Harvard Law have called Obama their best student ever. It’s not just brains, though — he’s smart in the right ways. He’s the opposite of an ideologue… he seriously considers viewpoints he disagrees with, to make sure he fully understands the nuance on every side of the issue. What’s also very important is who he turns to for advice (for real, not the BS about his “associations”). Obama seeks out people who will disagree with him and with each other, because he wants all the best advice and he’s smart enough to process conflicting viewpoints. His policy adviser team is full of people known for exceptional academic records–the best and the brightest, not the long-time cronies and “yes men” that surround George W. Bush and John Mccain.
Another virtue of Obama is his incredible level-headedness. Even when he was 20 points down in the polls against Hillary at this time last year, and most of his supporters were freaking out, he kept his cool. When the economic crisis began, he kept his cool and worked behind the scenes to help while John McCain offered about 5 different responses in one week, including some transparent political stunts. Barack Obama is unshakeable, and that’s what we need in a crisis.
John McCain just hasn’t put forward a clear vision for the country, and to the extent that he’s tried he hasn’t said proposed anything significantly different from George W. Bush. He spends most of his time discussing the economy talking about cutting earmarks, $18 billion out of a $3 trillion budget. Now he’s trying to take on a populist tone, appealing to all those ordinary workin’ Joes making over $250,000/year. Now it turns out the one guy he found as an example, “Joe the Plumber,” would actually pay lower taxes under Obama’s plan.
One of McCain’s biggest problems is his poor leadership. Look at his disarrayed, undisciplined campaign. The message is inconsistent. There are leaks galore. The policies keep changing. They’re obsessed with short-term tactical stunts. John McCain can’t get his own campaign to operate smoothly and work toward a long-term strategic gaal. It’s just like Hillary’s campaign, with the whole thing being pulled in six different directions by infighting factions. That happens when there’s a failure of leadership at the top, and for no other reason. The candidate has to put his/her foot down and lead everybody smoothly in the right direction. Hillary didn’t. McCain can’t. Obama, on the other hand, has run the smoothest and most innovative Presidential campaign in history. That’s the leadership quality he’d bring to the Presidency.
John McCain’s single greatest failure of leadership–the one time when he had his chance to put country first and he blew it–was the choice of Sarah Palin. The way McCain made the choice was shockingly reckless: going with his gut after only meeting her for an hour. So it reflects badly on him, but more important is the danger she poses if she were ever to become President. Her stupidity is not an exaggeration, and it’s not a joke — it’s a threat. As an Alaskan and a scientist I’m appalled that she’s our governor and mortified at the thought of her as President. She has no knowledge base on any important national issue, including energy, and she has to avoid any interviews with follow-up questions that might involve something that’s not on her list of talking points. She filled the Alaskan government with her high school friends and her campaign contributors, appointing people with no qualifications at ALL as a reward for their political support–believe it or not, she’s even worse than Bush on cronyism.
What bothers me most, though, is her comment today making fun of fruit fly research as an example of wasteful spending. Fruit flies are one of the most prominent in a series of biological systems on different size scales–like C. elegans nematodes, zebrafish, mice, rats, and monkeys–that are used for the majority of fundamental biochemistry, genetics, and medical research. I can’t believe someone running for VP could be so stupid as to think fruit fly research begins and ends with fruit flies, and then to ridicule it in a public policy speech. It’s very dangerous to risk having someone that clueless leading the executive branch through a time of crisis.
well said. I can go for any party if the person is intelligent and willing to listen and think for themselves and make the right decision for the majority and not just a select few. McCain threw in the towel and let others decide things for him. He has no control over anything any longer.
Like Hillary bringing up a tarmac memory that clearly isn’t correct. McCain says Obama is “elite” while he has so much more wealth and his VP selection gets 150k of new clothes. Michelle Obama wears $148 dresses off the rack. Cindy wears single outfits that are over 300k. Obama is “socialist” while McCain wants to redo everyone’s mortgage and bail out banks himself. Or Alaska takes money from oil and sends checks to it’s resident.
Intelligence and thought wins over any day.
Just please someday, could we have an intelligent election on both sides without gimmicks and stupidity?
I laugh because as I write this shoemoney has gotten 189 comments after 9 hours. Everyone so up in arms about their point of view.
The fact is Obama is going to win. Democrats are going to keep house and senate, probably also get filibuster control too. As a Republican I say God bless them. After the next four years, they will have no one to complain about. I don’t know the last time a single party will have had that much control over the government, if ever. George W. will be the past, and Republicans will be no where in sight to blame.
I figure only one of two things will happens.
Things will be much worse and the Republican Party will be stronger for it. It is only in adversity do people get stronger. Maybe during this time the next Reagan can arise and be heard, with the population disgusted with a Democratic regime in complete control.
Or the Democratics will usher in Utopia and we all will have quality healthcare, the energy and environmental crisis solved, the economy strong and solid, zero unemployment, no nukes in Iran or North Korea, Baby Boomers will be able to retire, no terrorism threats, we will be out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and racial harmony will be the way throughout the land. If that happens then I too will become a Democrat in four years.
Fact is right now I do not think I will even vote, because both parties are bought and paid for by special interest and big corporations. America is getting what it deserves, the American people checked out. When gas reached $3 a gallon I thought there would be such an out cry that a revolution would take place. Nothing happened, people didn’t even complain much more than when gas shot past $2.50.
So, Shoemoney says he’s disgusted at the voting population. “Do you even know who your congressman is? Do you know how they voted on this recent bailout? Do you know even who is on your ballot in 9 days?” That does matter shoemoney, because regardless of party, voting record, or promises on “issues”, nothing is going to change until the people take back the government. Until the people make whoever is in office accountable, it doesn’t matter who we put in office. Clinton with all his scandals was able to keep office. Bush making Haliburton richer, able to be reelected and keep office. It doesn’t matter, politicians are self-serving by their nature, and that give the large powers control.
Until the people decide to take America back, why worry? I have traffic I need to get to my site, that’s my worry.
I’m voting for whoever is pro-education…because that’s what I’m about
What we need is people to stand up a scientifically and methodologically rework the entire system. What our forefathers created hundreds of years ago was great then but this is the time of Google and gene splicing, congress has low approval because the entire system is bunk
Leave the political posts to the experts, Shoe.
he’s said he stated this blog to be about himself, and that’s what a blog is for. so i’m sure he’ll post whatever he wants like he always has
Who the fuck are you to tell Shoemoney what to do? You are commenting on his blog, idiot.
Firstly calm down, all of you.
In America you have electronic voting. As a man working with technology/websites/computers, you know that results can be tampered.
Also, electoral votes and other stuff… come on!
So, it doesn’t matter who you will vote for, It will be Obama.
Find movies “Zeitgeist, The Movie” and “Zeitgeis Addendum” and take a look at the reality.
Don’t believe everything you read in movies. Don’t tell others too as well.
Having George W Bush as the leader itself has been a shame on Americans. He really screwed up Americans’ life as well as for those in other parts of the world. Current economic downtown is nothing but the result of unplanned war expenditure and pathetic credit based life.
I doubt if the rest of the world really cares about who will come out as the winner this time… For me, anybody is better than George W Bush.
“Obama’s policies will damage our free enterprise system. Smooth talker does not equate to good judgment. We all should fear his hidden agenda. There will be huge payback for perceived injustices. He is *NOT * the messiah!”
Agreed. If he will not protect the unborn child from abortion, he will not protect the elderly and ill from euthansia. You and I could be next. Real men don’t vote for megalomaniacs.
This is a provocation by a black nick.
In all honesty I can’t say that I like either major presidential candidate, so I don’t think I’ll be voting for either. Why people continue to vote for their party’s candidate even when they don’t like them is a mystery to me. Far too much of the population is brainwashed into voting the party ticket without paying attention to the details.
thank god I’m not alone.
Regardless, though, whether you vote or not, one of them will be elected into office. So you might as well just pick who you hate less and hope he gets in, instead.
Or not, because, like I stated above, it still doesn’t matter. Also, it doesn’t make me ‘feel’ any better about my corrupt country either.
Re: “Also, it doesn’t make me ‘feel’ any better about my corrupt country either.”
If you believe it’s such a corrupt country, then not voting for change, or not moving to another country, would seem to indicate laziness.
At least register as an independent if you aren’t going to actually vote.
It would help if you voted third party. If you don’t you will always have dems and republicans to choose from.
And that kind of thinking is what will keep this country in a 2-party system for all eternity. It is impossible that a nation as large and diverse and ours can properly represent the views of it’s citizens with just choice A or choice B.
There is no need for more then a two party system, in fact I give my allegiance to no party. That’s the problem far beyond have multiple parties. Be an independent mind and pick the person that reflects your ideas or the closest to it. Having more parties will just bring more corruption. Can you imagine 4 or 5 parties fighting back and forth. It’s hard enough with two. Alternate party candidates have had plenty of money in the past, but they are on the fringes whether you want to think so or not. This is how it works people your only one vote among many and it’s majority rule.
I’m not moving to another country, because another country won’t guarantee me a constitution (until they take it) and cheap corporate taxes for my business. Imagine if Washington had taken off when he saw all of the Christians here.
The constitution has already been shit on enough that you can’t really use it as an excuse for not moving.
And if you do care about that stuff, the trampling of the 2nd amendment should be enough to motivate you to vote Republican.
The “more government” part is the opposite of what you claim to care about, so again… not voting seems to be a sign of laziness on your part–not some sort of political statement.
Everyone should sit down read who they are voting for this election hard to see that 10 days away and having a new leader
Obama – Usually vote Republican – but the last 8 years have been a disaster of epic proportions – financial, militarily, respect, you name it, it’s been screwed up. Two party system is broken – government is corrupt – change based on principle. . . . and lived under McCain for 15 years – never did much except what every other politician does – puts his hand out for money – Keating 5 – the OTHER biggest bailout in our lifetime. F’ing crooks.
g’damn right sir.
Jeremy, my bad man…I saw it, then it was gone thinking you’ve destroyed it.
I’m truly sorry, I love you…
Must be a lot of rich people on this board. Everyone thinks Obama=tax hike. All the stuff I’ve heard says he’s giving a tax cut to 95% of people. The tax increases, however minor, will be to those earning over $250K. How many of those are here (I know Shoe makes around $250K a month, so he’ll be voting McCain
)
De-Regulation hasn’t caused your national debt. That’s stupid spending. But de-regulation is largely responsible for the financial crisis you’re in now. Everyone shouts about the greed of Wall St but oposes the regulation of the sector that would be necessary to clean it up.
Trickle down, in it’s pure form. Socialism, in it’s pure form doesn’t work either. But there’s middle ground and just because someone like Obama proposes a move slightly into that middle ground it doesn’t mean he’s a Socialiast. It means he’s thinking.
That should be “Trickle-down, in it’s pure form, doesn’t work”.
FWIW, there’s a missing ‘p’ in there somewhere, too, but who’s counting?
Inflation passing the rate of pay, the credit bubble, and our military are what caused these tragedies we call our ‘economic system.’ Nothing real backs our currency, so we continue to suffer under people that estimate what our money is worth.
Gold standard anyone? http://mediacondom.com/?p=158
“Everyone thinks Obama=tax hike. All the stuff I’ve heard says he’s giving a tax cut to 95% of people. The tax increases, however minor, will be to those earning over $250K.”
One of the reasons I’m voting Obama.
Because you take joy in knowing that others pay for all the free services that you enjoy?
That’s cool.
The tax increases are on the people that provide jobs. Increasing the capital gains is going to affect more than those just those making 250k/yr.
Yea, cause it’s always great to discourage entreprenuership and big business. No wonder people move to tax havens….
The main problem I have is that I am still pissed off at that Bush guy for ignoring us.
I don’t like to be ignored! Not only that, he was incapable of almost anything except sending young boys and girls to fight for him.
Typical politician.
They all do this.
If you can’t simply narrow it down to voting for the lesser of two evils, then you shouldn’t vote.
You don’t have to vote “for” anyone. Pick the one you hate the most and vote for the other guy.
Voting for anyone other than the main 2 accomplishes as much as staying home. That will never change.
Mike,
How does voting for one of them accomplish anything? Your logic is very fuzzy.
Because you help defeat whichever one is worse, even if you don’t like either of them.
Rapists and muggers are both filthy criminals, right? If a girl is being cornered by both, and she has one blast of pepper spray left, guess which one is getting it: The rapist. She’s not going to think, “They’re both trash, so I’m not spraying either one.”
The downside is the mugger will still get her purse, but by picking the lesser of two evils, she doesn’t get raped.
That’s how voting works, but only if you vote for one of the main two. Since the others stand no chance of ever winning, those are throwaway votes.
Your logic just got worse. If your version of government exists as two criminal entities, how can you trust them with your rights, criminal justice, and regulation?
All politicians are crooks. That’s why you vote against the worst choice when no one is worth voting “for.”
If you think my logic got worse comparing them to criminals, are you saying you’d have a hard time choosing between getting raped or robbed?
It’s pretty simple.
Voting against the biggest scumbag is the closest you can come to making a positive change. Coin flipping is a good choice for stupid people because they finally have a 50/50 chance of being right. Voting for anyone other than the only two that have a chance of winning is exactly the same as not voting, regardless of how much people that do it try to convince themselves otherwise.
I am not voting, it is a waste of time. No matter what, I won’t get what I want; and both candidates are overt socialists that want to increase taxes. Ralph Nader is also a socialist; just a wanna-be trust-buster progressive kind.
Your right Shoe, people don’t get involved in politics and we are seeing the results of this today. Everyone has an obligation to become educated about the issues, the views of the candidates and make an educated decision for yourself.
We have to see the right policies and we must eliminate bad policy.
Obama = Raise taxes in a recession = Great Depression 2
Read your history!
Shoe/Chow, we are already in a depression.
Did Obama cause that?
Let’s start using our brains, folks, instead of regurgitating what a talk show host says..
Read the facts, not history according to Fox News. McCain will cost America more in taxes than Obama, who is lowering them for most people. 95% of America will have same or lower taxes and spend the extra at Wal-mart. And maybe a little bit at your online company. The Waltons then make more than they would on their little tax hike back to where Clinton had it. And everybody is happy.
Or McCain is elected and he starts war with Iran. Gas goes to $13 a gallon, the stock exchange says forget it, closes down and you can’t get food at your local store. People have to eat their computers for minerals so they can’t order from you. Everybody in big oil is happy.
Please…8 years bush been enough…let get new people on power. It can’t get worst then it is today.
We did that when we gave Congress to the Dems. Nancy Pelosi and the do nothing congress…. And you want them to control the Presidency too?
I see a Shoe/Chow ticket in the making. “An Apple for every American” is the capaign motto!
LMFAO too bad Chow isn’t American!
Hey Shoe,
I’m voting Obama only because he is the best choice of the two.
There are certain things I like and dislike about both as well. Only it seems to me that this is just a big game to Mcain and he’ll do anything to get the vote. Although I might add that he is playing the game decently well and you can count on him getting a high percentage of votes from the most ignorant people in our country.
It should be close though when it is all said and done.
Obama gave speech on television today. I liked this statement.
Why delete? Did you fall out of your blue jeans?
Later added: Shoe, How is this any different then my post you deleted?
http://www.shoemoney.com/gallery/v/SEOTHINKTANK/IMG_1756.JPG.html
did not delete anything there chief… all first time commentators go into moderation but you will see the comment as live (but only you).
As I sit here and think…I’m a pissed off individual…What we have here is nothing but a corrupt society. Every country is guilty.
Greed is taking over and it needs to stop.
Money is money, sure you earn enough and it’s yours. But when you have enough cash to last til the sun burns out…I think you’ve got to think about what’s going on and how much you need to survive and have a good time.
Taxes don’t need increased.
Opportunity needs to be increased. Openings need to be made. Not increasing taxes to the people of the states. If the government knew what they were doing, they would be on the situation right now.
Wind power, Getting off gasoline (sure there might be plenty here, but why fuck up the ozone anymore, money ain’t shit if you ain’t breathing correctly), moving to solar power. Why aren’t we going after these. We are sitting here doing nothing about it. Legalizing marijuana would bring in billions if you did it the correct way for god sakes. The list goes on.
People want all the steak on the table and in this egotistical world…Once you get that steak you don’t care about the guy not eating cause you “made it”. Sure, maybe this is my view because I don’t have steak.
Voting for McCain. I…don’t…trust…Obama. Higher taxes and spreading the wealth are not the way I roll. Anyone who considers himself or herself an entrepreneur needs to take a very close look at how Obama’s policies will damage our free enterprise system. Smooth talker does not equate to good judgment. We all should fear his hidden agenda. There will be huge payback for perceived injustices. He is *NOT * the messiah!
No one is. It’s a figurative office. If you were really interested in your money, you’d be interested in backing it with gold instead of debt and paper.
As John likes to say on the campaign trail fighting flashbacks “my fellow prisoners…” senility, stumbling and mindless aggression, even to allies like Spain, are much better than thinking first and completing sentences. Let’s look at the Roman empire since we are following in their footsteps….on second thought, let’s look at the $313,339.00 outfit my wife Cindy is wearing tonight. Isn’t that great?
Dang, Shoe. I thought you made your decision 8 months ago?
http://www.shoemoney.com/2008/02/11/yes-we-can-barrack-obama/
that was for the democratic primary.
I like to stir the pot on both sides
Ahhh, I see… you sly dawg
Consider the pot spilled…
its a great way to get discussion going, political posts
always get a lot of comments
you people make my head hurt.
It’s funny that half of all republican leaders are supporting Obama actually. I was just watching one of those saying Obama was a once in a lifetime political makeup. The guy just has what you can not buy. Hope, Inspiration, and a calm that is unflappable. You see that’s all you need as a president because they all surround themselves with people who have more experience in each dept. The presidents job is to be the figure head that makes people feel good about their chances. Bottom line Obama is the epitome of America. Him being elected is more powerful then anyone can imagine. 40 years ago Black people used separate water fountains. Most still want to focus on the bad when it comes to racism, but I think this will show just how far we have came, and in doing so will most likely inspire that little minority child that is watching this historic election aspire to be something more himself. Everyone talks about experience, well tell me this what good has experience ever got this country? Lincoln had no experience JFK had little experience yet they inspired with their actions and oratory. People who truly understand what a leader is knows the most important quality a leader has is not experience. You either have the it factor or you don’t and he has it. 100k people listen to him speak at a Rally that’s inspiring by itself. Maybe just maybe this great country will be respected for the right things again instead of the gluttons of corruption we are known for today. I remember when people wanted to come to this country because of the ideas and what it stood for. These are the things I want back. I just hope it’s not too late.
Well said. Check out this video man, help me spread it around.
I saw this powerful video and decided to start a small marketing campaign.
http://www.vimeo.com/1891426#success
Obama is the same scam as McCain, but you are going to fall for it. It’s whoever can swoon you hard enough to make you repeat what they say. Never mind that most of their speeches are written by speech writters, and actually borrowed from old speeches by other presidents.
Jason, how exactly is Obama just like McCain?
Get off his dick already.
You are talking out of your ass now and blatantly LYING.
You said “Lincoln had no experience”
He served 4 terms in the IL state House of Reps.
And half of republican leaders are supporting Obama- where are your stats coming from? Your ass?
Furthermore, Louis Farakhan and Fidel Castro support Obama. So he has support from these types and a bunch of RINOs. What is your point?
Bob Barr – Don’t settle for a two party system. Most other countries don’t.
Most other countries are more socialist than this one. The only thing they lack are our corporate economic resources.
This is my first time I’m going to be voting so I’m excited!
Stay a virgin.
I don’t like either one really… If its time for a change in our country then its time to not vote republican or democrat. Both have made a mess and a real change means taking out the norm in this country. I am still undecided…
I think you should open a poll and see what everyone votes
Whatever happens, we are in for one wild ride…I just hope the economy strengthens, everyone’s currency stays worth something, and we aren’t running around the woods with guns and picking berries to survive…
We just had a federal election here in Canada, and the voter turnout was the lowest in our history. The so called pundits are saying it is because of the negative ad campaign run by the Conservatives who won a minority government.
Previous Republican administrations starting with Regan have de-regulated your financial institutions, and airlines, given you the biggest national deficit of any country in the world, got you into an unecessary war that costs you the taxpayer 10 BILLION dollars per month, taken away your liberties with the Patriot Act, failed miserably in the response to hurricane Katrina, made public the name of an undercover CIA agent (is that not treason?), and finally brought you (and the entire world) to the very brink of financial meltdown through insatiable greed and even more. I could go on for days. Oh, and many uninformed folks think Obama is a Muslim.
I don’t understand how you can be undecided??????????????????????
I along with millions of other folks in the world (as indicated by many polls outside of the US) pray you vote for Obama, at least he has a vision something like JFK had.
Deregulation is not the cause of our high debt! Spending is!
Airlines have been going down because of regulation (ie: union demands, high pensions, benefits). McCain tried to regulate Fannie and Freddie in 05 but the Democrats were taking in too much personal money (see Obama, Dodd, Barney Frank), so they blocked his attempts. Fannie and Freddie was the catalyst for the financial meltdown, which is primarily the Dems fault.
The war authorization was voted on and passed in Congress with huge support from BOTH sides.
Katrina was a perfect example of states not being accountable. If I live in Illinois why should I have to pay for their problems stemming from negligence!??!?! They knew all the risks and never fixed it properly. Hard fact.
You aren’t telling the truth. Conservatives are winning in many countries because their socialist policies aren’t working. Not because of campaign tactics. Get over it. Accept the truth.
Fannie and Freddie were just along for the ride just like the rest of the bank look up CDS credit default swaps another word for insurance that the crooks (deregulated crooks) use to hedge risk because when you call it insurance it’s regulated so you make up a nice sounding name and get around that little nasty term. Look how many trillion dollars of insurance reside in Credit Default Swaps. It will scare anyone straight. Fanny and Freddy are a pimple on the butt just like Wamu, Lehman and all the others. You can’t explain these things to everyone because they make these instruments so complex that most politicians don’t even know what they are which is the way the like it. You got collateralized debt backed up by insurance or wait that’s regulated so let’s go back to the good old 50 trillion plus CDS market. Most of these free market guys saying let if fail have no clue about how far this reaches. You ready for the soup kitchens again to have your free market so everyone else starves because of crooks playing games? There is no such word as free markets not one that ever lasts.
Peter, I was not trying to imply that de-regulation has anything to do with your national debt.
The fact that Congress and the Senate voted for and supported the war in Iraq does not mean it was or is right, they were not a threat to the US, and the US put Saddam in power in the rist place. Have you seen the old photo of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam?
If you had a natural disaster in Illinois would you like the government to help you out or not?
How’s this, the free market regulates. If a product is dangerous, unsatisfactory, or anything else; DON’T BUY IT. If you don’t like your job, quit. I don’t EVER want the government’s help. All that they touch withers and dies.
I’m Canadian myself, and if the US made a mistake on the wars, we’ve had a fair share of our mistakes as well. Everyone does.
The New Orleans levies are controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers, not the state. The state couldn’t do anything on their own with the wetlands there.
That is not true. If you run the state you can direct money to the levies. Ray Nagin and gov Blanco were inadequate morons. The state and local gov’t was not prepared for something that they knew was inevitable.
If you hold the states accountable they will do what they need to. If you don’t, they will wait for the federal gov’t to bail them out.
Deregulation is gov-speak for ‘privatization.’ It just means that they are going to move government out of it’s incompetent monitoring, and replace it with corporate monitoring with a greedier form of regulation. All collectivism is evil; whether it’s corporations, special interests, lobbies, democracies, republics, unions, socialists, communists, or soviets.
I think whats sad is I care more about the American election then I did about the one we just had…probably because you guys effect our economy a lot.
Took me 4 days to figure out who won ours…lmao
I find it’s a sadder fact that ours started after and finished before the American one.
Its not as big of a deal here…..at least Dion never got in…him and his new stupid carbon tax. Like we need more taxes!
The American election probably has a bigger effect on us that our own
It’s very saddening to see shows when they interview people and they have no idea who the big political figures are, yet they know every dead beat celebrity out there.
Howard Stern had one of his guys go out and interview people, and flipping their policies with each other (so they were wrong), yet people would agree with the most ridiculous things… just as long as they were stating their stand for who they were voting for. Look it up on youtube, for a better understanding…
Unfortunately, there are some hard-headed people in our great nation. Some hate admitting that they’re wrong, and some just simply hate change. We need to wake these people up! We’ll have some real serious consequences if we make the wrong choice on Nov 4th.
I think the wrong choice would entail enormous consequences. And this happens very quickly
I may be one of the last Conservatives left. I don’t feel as though I have a candidate in the race this year. My personal opinion is that McCain has run a terrible campaign and that Obama has a much more consistent message (albeit wrong) and certainly has communicated that better (Change, Change, Change, McCain is Bush, Change, Change).
If my decision were based simply on which candidate has run a better race and is a more effective communicator, it would be an easy call. However, I believe it’s most important to look at their history, their records, their proposals and their actions. With that said, here’s my take as a Conservative:
Obama quotes-”I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.” The purpose of taxes aren’t for the gov’t to decide what’s fair or not. Obama apparently thinks it’s FAIR to take more money from the people that produce the jobs and employ people (these evil “rich” people) that are already paying a disproportionately high percentage of taxes and tax them even more. Personally, I have one employee and if push came to shove, I could do without her (although I’d hate to lose her). If Obama raises my taxes, I may have to reconsider her employment.
It’s become clear to me that most people and politicians don’t get the FACT that when the gov’t lowers certain taxes (including capital gains), it stimulates the economy because more people are willing then to sell assets that have risen in value (rental houses, stocks, etc.) and it leads to people having more $ in their hands. When they have more money, they spend more (at the corporate level, companies are more likely to invest in new equipment, etc.). This can have a major impact on the economy and the net effect is that the Treasury Dep’t actually takes in MORE revenue. I haven’t heard either candidate talking much about something equally as important-lower their voracious spending!
Obama qoute #2-”I opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. It should be repealed and I will vote for its repeal on the Senate floor. I will also oppose any proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying.” I realize I may be the only person left on earth that thinks it’s whacked for two dudes to get married. If two dudes want to get it on in the privacy of their own homes (or relative privacy of a public bathroom stall), fine. I think the real issue here, as in most cases is the $. I had a liberal relative of mine say he’s for gay marriage, it’s the right thing to do, only fair, etc. My view aside from the fact that it’s completely ridiculous that same-sex marriage is even said with a straight (no pun intended) face, is that it’s not FAIR for an employer to have to pay for same-sex partner benefits. If we go done that road, why wouldn’t it also be FAIR for people’s mistresses to get benefits. Dude, you’ve got to drawn the line somewhere and defending real marriages between a dude and a lady is certainly reasonable.
Obama quote #3-”I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.” I’ve apparently been punished since I have three kids myself. There has not been a day that I’ve ever thought of ANY kid as being a punishment.
When I was in my late teens and early 20’s, I thought “sure, women should have a choice”. Back then, my best friend at the time cheated on his girlfriend and impregnated another girl. I even supported their decision to abort the baby (turned out to be twins). My friend took what he felt was the easy way out (his girlfriend wouldn’t find out, he could finish college and move on). I believe he was miserable about that decision for a long time. The relationship with his girlfriend eventually ended, he’s since had a failed marriage and my guess is he’s still living a shallow life in Omaha and chasing “easy” women to fill the insecurity in his life (thank you Dr. Phil).
The point I was trying to make was that I have children. I’ve had the unbelievable feeling of looking at an ultrasound and seeing my kids move around and suck their thumbs in the womb. A little thing called the US Constitution guarantees every one of us the right to the pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I have also read (please do so if you haven’t yet) Roe V. Wade. My sense was the the Supreme Court Justices believed these babies had the same right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Their only challenge at the time was trying to pin down when life started and they didn’t have the technology we do today. If so, I believe the outcome would have been much different. Is it unreasonable to ask that a women that’s become pregnant simply carry the baby to term? Do you really think it’s more reasonable to insert an instrument into the woman’s womb and dice up an little baby. Have our hearts gotten so hard that we can’t have compassion for the baby and are only concerned about whether the woman is going to be inconvenienced for a few months? For crying out loud, our top news stories anymore are when somebody kicks a cat or kills a dog (shaving gerbils apparently is still okay). Do we really care more about our animals than babies?
Obama quote #4-”It’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” I one of these poor, ignorant slobs that “clings” to Christianity and owns guns. What an elitist attitude Obama shows by this comment. What disdain for people that have the audacity to believe in a higher power or their constitutional right to bear arms. Who does this guy think he is?
Enough with the quotes already. The reality is Obama had a whopping 140 some odd days of experience in the Senate when he made it public that he was running for the Presidency. It amazes me that the press attacks Governor Palin for a lack of experience, yet gives Obama a free pass when it comes to experience. Forget about the radicals that Obama has ties to, Obama himself has one of the most radical voting records of any recent Senator.
Nobody can seriously claim McCain isn’t experienced. You certainly can’t say he hasn’t sacrificed his own freedom for this GREAT country. Is he perfect? Absolutely not. Has he run a great campaign? No. Given the importance of this election, I not willing to risk voting for an inexperienced young guy with a very liberal voting record that wants to raise my taxes, thinks I’m a hick because I believe in taxes and own a few guns and thinks babies are a punishment.
The real shame is that a true conservative with substance, that speaks with passion and conviction hasn’t stepped forward to inspire us. The Republican Party blew it by trying to move left instead of having the guts to take a stand. I won’t be excited about it, but I will be voting for John McCain.
Well stated.
I don’t necessarily care if gays get married. I don’t think they should be able to adopt though.
It should be up to the states to decide on gay marriage. But if you allow gays, you have to allow polygamy. If two consenting adults want to get married, why can’t 3 or 4?
And requiring any private company to pay healthcare (Obama mandate) or any other benefits is plain stupid. Nobody forces you to work at any company.
Oh no! Heaven forbid that 3 or 4 people get married! What’s the matter with that? Less women to go around?
Please. And why should you care if a couple gay men or women adopt a child? You’re homophobic, and repressive.
I didn’t say I oppose polygamy and if I support gay marriage, how am I homophobic?
Please be intellectually honest. I believe a child is best raised by a man and a woman.
That does not make me homophobic. You however, are ignorant.
passion, conviction,substance AND some sense..

Capital gains are at the lowest levels ever and taxes are close to historic lows. How much stimulus is the economy benefitting from? How can anyone make a valid argument about taxes being low being the be all end all when it comes to stimulating the economy. Consumer spending is 70% of the economy you create jobs because people have money to spend on your goods or service when that middle class that needs to catch up can’t make ends meet your business is or service is no longer needed. Your business will probably go long before you need to let her go at this rate no one will be able to buy anything especially if it’s a big ticket item. The stock market is a sham look I’m a trader and that’s all you can be in this market look at where the dow was 10 years ago go back further the average 401k has made nothing because of all this good de-regulation, hedge funds, investment houses, low taxes or in other words greed and corruption that is supposed to make business so much easier.
Things need to be paid for period. If roads, bridges, schools, health care are safe, great, lower taxes. Instead we lower taxes and borrow money to build stuff in other countries after we borrowed money to blow it up. We’ll see how how John Big Debt China McCain supporters like it when we are visibly owned by other countries. If you decide to start a war, go on tv and tell us why and raise our taxes for it. Let us unite like WWII. If we need to help another country after a disaster, tell us what each person’s bill for that aide. We pay for it or we can’t. Like a draft, it’ll get people involved in what is going on. Most Americans, even ones in my own family, like to mess with others lives as long as it doesn’t touch themselves and is out of sight (like force babies to be born but not want to pay for them or see them and whine when they turn out to be criminals, minorities, or people on the street)
Obama has been CEO of what amounts to a $500 million company now for a couple years. McCain was a Senator who married into money. He failed in 2000 (and I supported him). He failed in summer of 2007 (and I supported him and predicted he’d come back to get the nomination) and now he’s trying to fail a third time, all do to frustratingly poor management. And look at his executive experience running his mess of a campaign. That right there should make one think twice. McCain should be winning with a competent campaign and better VP pick. He just can’t cut it on a high level.
And I think the bitter comment is accurate. Look at how people bring up crap like gays, religion and abortion rights when there are more important things to consider. “Well, he’ll eliminate my job and cause nuclear war but gosh darn he’s going to make sure gays can’t adopt a kid who otherwise will be homeless or dead soon. I’ll go with that one.”
A 500 million company that turns 0 profit and has no need for accountability. Raise and spend. Raise and spend.
That is an easy company to run. Exactly the same shit he will do if he wins.
Nice try.
No we have to raise to start paying back what we’ve spent over the last 30 years. How can you ever get out of debt if you don’t raise more money? Even if we raised taxes on everyone to 50% and cut all spending, we’ll still be in the hole for many years.
We need to try something different…and the something different…and then something different until it works. What we are doing now isn’t cutting it.
That must be the longest comment ever on this blog.
Good job!
From an outsiders point of view looking in. (A Canadian)
The US needs big change and drastic change to get back on track. I am sorry to point this out but some Americans put to much focus on issues regarding who they are going to elect that they have no rights to be even thinking about. How is it anyone’s business who is getting an abortion or not (or what a presidents views are on the topic) and what the fuck does that have to do with who can run a country better then the other person. Like honestly, with how the health care system is there (which is completely retarded and I speak about that from first hand knowledge) and the costs of educating kids why would that topic even come up.
McCain made a comment about Canada and UK’s health care system and stated if people wanted what we had they should move to our country’s. My response to that was “at least we don’t discriminate against an entire family just because one of there members got cancer” Like this guys wife can’t even get a good job because he is sick, and there family has lost all there assets paying for his treatments. Like honestly, McCain is a fucking retard for saying that and if you guys don’t see that then I hope you vote him in you will suffer because of it.
Obama is the better man by far and will deliver change unlike the US has seen before in a very good way. McCain reminds me way to much of Bush, who has proven to be a goof and the down fall of the US. But I am afraid that the rednecks of the US who can’t grow up and get past the color of a mans skin will stop him from becoming President. If that happens, that’s your loss.
See, I love the US and as soon as I can afford to I plan on buying property there just because of how much I like it. But you guys really need to step up your game a bit, like Shoe has said.
Is it ok for a woman to have an abortion if she is 9 months pregnant? Certainly you would say no. What about 8 mos? 7? 4? You can admit that abortion is not an all or nothing issue. So clearly it IS other people’s business at some point! And it is EVERYONE’s business if it happens to be paid for by the gov’t (ie taxpayers) like some socialists want.
We have better quality health care than you. Our universities are head and shoulders above yours. I agree though that the way they operate needs to be addressed however.
So don’t act like it is peaches and cream where you live. Your citizens are coming down to the US for all the major operations. Gov’t run health care is not a solution. What does the gov’t really run well? Almost nothing.
First off I don’t think it is possible to have an abortion at 9 or 8 (that would be called birth then) months and if a women is able to carry it that long then adoption would be her choice if she is unable to care for the baby after it is born. All I was saying regarding this was it should not be part of an election debate when your country is in the shape it is in.
Secondly, your health care system is not better then ours in any way shape or form….not even close!
Answer me this if you think your health care system is so good.
You have an average family (2 kids with 2 parents) earning average income. One of the kids is a female teenager and gets into a serious care crash and is in the hospital for one month recovering. Both parents have full health care coverage with there employers. Once the girl got out of the hospital her parents received a bill for health care that was not covered by insurance for over 250k which forced that family into bankruptcy. How do you consider your health care system to be better then ours when this happens REGULARLY over there?
And your never going to hear me say ever that our country is better then your in any way shape or form, we all have our problems. But our health care system is better – we have one at least that does not leave families looking for a new home after a car accident.
As far as as schooling is concerned – I just think you guys pay way to much for it. And just to let you know that a lot of Americans come to Canada to get a university degree because it is cheaper..and thats the only reason.
I said the health care QUALITY is better here. Our universities are higher quality and are world renown. You cannot argue that unless you are just being a homer.
So I don’t know why you came up with a scenario. There are policies that need to be fixed. But WRT quality there is no comparison. We have the best doctors and professors.
No offense, but if you’re Canadian (like me), you should really go out and look at a treaty called NAFTA. Unless you want our economy to tank because of lost trade (a large majority of it is with the USA), hope to god McCain gets in.
I was undecided until I sat down and thought about it. You know what? I decided neither one of em was worth my vote. I’ve decided I’ll be voting for Nader. He may not win, but I don’t care, at least I’ll be able to sleep comfortably in the fact that I didn’t waste my vote on someone who shouldn’t be president.
Is Nader worth your vote?
If not, then by your own logic, you’re defeating yourself by voting for someone who doesn’t deserve your vote. It’s just a vote against someone rather than a vote for someone.
I’m voting for the person I want in office. Not for the person I think will win.
Voting Nader? Oh great. 2000 election mess up all over again.
lol. I’m not concerned. If the Democratic party can’t win in a landslide victory this year, there’s something seriously wrong with the Democratic party, so it wouldn’t matter anyway;)
You’ve certainly been a country without a leader for the last 8 years.
I live in Australia so obviously I’ve got no say in this, but it scares me a little that there’s so much support for McCain amongst a group of supposedly educated and intelligent people here.
From an outsider’s perspective, we’d like America to be big, strong and respectable. After a five year war against people who didn’t threaten you, the worst President in the history of Presidents and a financial collapse the size of which we’ve never seen (not to mention a deficit that your kids will hate you for), you’re looking like none of the above at the moment.
Obama’s taxation policy is far from Socialist. That’s just a label the GOP would like to pin on it because it triggers a reaction. Go to any country where there’s better distribution and you won’t see as many filthy rich individuals, but you’ll see healthy societies where people can get support to get back into work, they aren’t desparate to steal your stuff because they have nothing and they can access doctors if they need to.
All I see and hear when watch McCain is how he’s going to Fight this and Fight that. Got a policy, I’ll fight it. Got a community that’s not in the US – I’ll fight that too as it might not like us. And don’t even get me started on Palin….
Obama’s platform for taxation would still give you an enviable position on the global scale. Obama’s platform for foreign relations would actually make people want to talk to your country again and listen to you.
Trust me, from an outsider’s perspective, you need some respect again. America’s go the best and worst of everything, but we’ve seen way too much of the bad in the last 8 years.
I hope you all at least get out to vote in a few weeks time. Not doing so, especially in this election, would be worse than lazy.
That’s the problem with this country and your right. How anyone could vote for another Neocon is troubling to me. We are hated by every other country, but that seems to bother no one else as if the world is not more global in nature then ever where forming strong international alliances is more important then ever. People that think we can keep this kind of leadership and remain relevant are not watching what’s going on. We got auto makers going out of business on the news as I speak. Banks going under, the only thing trickling down right now is job losses. I don’t think many people understand how bad this is going to get economically. This is just the middle innings if we’re lucky.
When this country had people with balls we didn’t worry about what other countries thought of us. We owned them when we needed to.
If Australia is in love with us, that isn’t going to help your situation.
The solution is to shrink government. Pull out of United Nations and NATO, ending any relationship with global groups that complicate our foreign policies and our flexibility. Eliminate the income tax and replace with the FairTax. Clean house by voting in new Congressmen. Hold states more accountable by giving each state a bill based on the amt of money they take from federal gov’t.
By the way don’t worry he is going to win I have enough faith in the people of this country to get things back on track.
What’s stupid is the fact that you are shooting yourself in the foot. McCain is pro-trade, Obama is not. Say hello to an even worse economy if Obama gets in.
McCain is pro-one-way-trade. He likes trade when it favors executives and the bottom line and other countries like China, not the average employee. All of these deals put the USA at a disadvantage with tariffs and uneven prices.
Obama is for trade that is a bit more even. It’s hard to find a product on the shelves that is made in America so what the heck are we selling to other people on their countries shelves? We’re not. We’re just using cheaper labor and saving money for higher CEO salaries.
For people who take issue of “spreading the wealth”, what have we had lately? We “spread the wealth” from the middle class to the upper class. Jobs pay less, things cost more and the CEOs make many millions of dollars more. I know we all think that we will be that CEO or win the lottery. But it most likely isn’t happening and you’d be better off with Obama’s plan which only puts rates back to 2000 when the economy was kicking butt. Those tax rates didn’t stop the internet from coming on strong did it? They didn’t hurt the dot com economy then, why would they now? It wasn’t that long ago that 2 or 3 million was a top salary. Now it has to be 30 million or 300 million. Enough is enough.
You obviously do not understand how public companies work. Salaries are determined by the company’s board. These public companies are owned by large funds and average citizens.
If you quit thinking about what CEO’s make and focus on how you can better your life, you’d be doing much better.
If you think your life will get better by your vote, then you are simply foolish.
I have a pretty good idea about public companies actually as I worked high up in a top company. I was a successful full time day trader. I don’t get to vote on my stock’s leader salaries. And I’m doing fine and I pay others at a higher level than I need to. I’d be happy to pay more in taxes when it is used wisely. I don’t have to work but I start and sell companies for excitement. And I don’t see many people turning money down (other than the owner of Costco). When I hear from friend that lose their retirement and now have to work longer while all the execs get bonuses…well it’s pretty sad. And then go down the list of the biggest money takers all the way back to Enron. Who are they connected to nearly all of the time? The Bush family. So let’s try another family for a while. How about a family corrupted by solar and wind power? I wish that existed right now but there isn’t much recurring revenue in it for utility companies.
Life will get better if we can avoid clouded judgment who just wants to go to war and spread private military contracts around. A lifelong military mentality doesn’t just change with a title. It just gets senile and can’t remember who it bombed last.
But if you admit that the gov’t spends wastefully, why would you deem it necessary for anyone to give them a larger % of their money?
If they are being irresponsible, why would you want a larger government and higher tax rates?
Makes no sense. We have to hold them accountable and understand that their size should be small and their role should be limited.
I don’t understand why people care what a CEO makes. A CEO has a billion more responsibilities and qualifications then you, so he deserves to make that much more. Focus on your own job and stop eying other people’s jobs and maybe you’ll make more too.
They deserve that much money when the company is losing money? When a company is faltering, they still deserve bonuses and raises while jobs are cuty and stocks plummet? If a company does well, great. They deserve a lot when they make a lot for others. But I don’t think anyone deserves even one million dollars when a company is losing money for years on end. I saw embezzlement at my job and I testified in court against the owner of the company that was taking more money as the company went down the tubes.
I already voted for Obama. I have voted for McCain in the past in Arizona. He lost me when he picked Sarah Palin. There are many more qualified people out there. That was a joke. He also has changed on just about every position going from state to national. In Arizona, he supported open borders and wanted jobs to go to cheaper foreigners. McCain doesn’t even know what the “Internets” are (yeah that’s a Bush quote) and as he admits, he doesn’t know anything about the economy. That is number one. If there isn’t a good economy, tax rates don’t matter. To people who are concerned about tax rates…they are dreaming of making more money but they won’t with a president who doesn’t understand money.
Why are the best US economic and stock market years in the last 40 years under Democrat control? Why are the biggest stock market decline, 80s, start of 90s and recently all under Republican control? If people make more at the bottom, they spend it and give it to the people at the top. If everyone is serving coffee and checking people out, not many are left to buy stuff.
Also, I don’t want someone who’s first instinct is war. He votes against benefits for veterans but will put them into any situation for any reason. We don’t need continuous wars right now.
If only it was that simple Adam.
The tech boom (and overvalued internet dot coms) and the republican congress under a moderate Clinton was the reason for the economic expansion. And the 87 crash had nothing to do with any party in Washington.
You are attributing too much power and influence to the President. Who holds the Presidency and the state of our country is not a direct and simple correlation.
When a President wants to make up evidence and invade a country for revenge and oil, take away liberties and invade privacy, it can affect a country. Power corrupts and everyone afterward wants that power too so they don’t give it up, left or right.
It’s not that simple but there is only so much to type in these little spaces….but many people claim how Republicans are conservative and don’t spend as much as save people money. That’s just not true and that is what frustrates me. People that think cutting taxes at the top trickles down are dreaming. It never reaches the bottom and never has since Reagan started it. Reagan eventually raised taxes. Bush Sr. raised taxes. They conservatives spend as much (and more lately) as any government. There is no such thing as conservative government any more. They just say there is and people believe it.
I agree with you there Adam. The problem is spending though, not the tax level. It has been shown time and time again that when the gov’t lowers taxes they take in MORE REVENUE!
The more revenue effect isn’t long term. If you look closely at the trends it doesn’t happen all the time and the effect is usually only in one year. Which means it’s all how it shows on the books. Not a true impact.
The end point for me is that I want smaller government. But McCain and the Republicans are not for that anymore. They want wars paid for by debt. They now want mortgages reset for people who bought more than theey could afford. That’s not any different than spreading the wealth or socialsim as they are tagging the left. It’s all the same to me. One party just lies about the name more than the other and claims to be something different. That’s my issue. One party wants more control over marriage, abortions, privacy, less rights for citizens, less freedom for citizens…and claims to be for less of everything. That’s just not so. I’d rather have a party that tells me they are going to do something, like it or not, at let one go from there in a choice.
Let’s face it, this is politics and either candidate may or may not do what they promise in their speeches/debates. We’ve seen the distorted facts from both sides.
Those individuals saying Obama is not experienced enough to lead, here’s a couple of things to think about:
1. If experience is so important, why did McCain decide to go with Sarah Palin as his running mate?
2. What good is experience if you are not making the right decisions?
I will vote for Obama based on the issues, and what the fact checkers are saying. I like Obama’s tax plan because it’s more altruistic. While it’s fair to say that McCain’s tax plan may work in a flourishing economy, I think Obama’s plan makes much more sense in our current economic crisis.
On foreign diplomacy, I think Obama has a much keener sense of what’s going on around the world. He realizes that we are looked on as the “bully” and that we’re disliked by more countries than ever before in history. We need a leader who can put us in a better light. McCain may have military experience, but that may work as a bias when dealing with other nations.
On the war, Obama wants to gradually pull out of Iraq and put more forces in Afghanistan where it’s desperately needed. Our enemies, the terrorists, are in Afghanistan and it does us no good to spread our troops thin. The Iraq war has costed us the lives of thousands of U.S. soldiers and billions of dollars. McCain has no idea when he wants to pull out. Under his plan, this could carry on for many more years while thousands more lose their lives. By pulling out of Iraq, we are not waving a white flag like McCain would like to think, it simply means we need to slowly hand over the responsibility back to the Iraqi government. Also, if we continue to pump $40 billion into this war every month, our economy will never recover. Our country needs to take care of itself before it can take care of others.
Politics, no thanks buddy.
The reasons people often give for voting Obama makes it sound like they’re shopping for boyfriend instead of a president.
With zero experience in anything, it’s hilarious that he’s even in the race. I guess they figure anything’s better than Hilary. Even though I won’t vote for him, the side of me that watches violent movies and slows down to look at car wrecks, kinda wants to see him win just to see what happens.
Based on people being stupid in general, and the throw-away votes for anyone other than the main two, I’d say Obama will win.
Yeah GW had some experience he was a great president hugh LOL. So let’s vote for a 72 year old guy who picked another nimwit who can’t even tell anyone what magazines that she reads. You probably want to drink a beer with her though hugh.
So, if a bad president has experience, then your version of logic tells you that the obvious solution is to elect a socialist with zero experience?
Palin has more experience than Obama, so I’m not sure why the Obama cheerleaders even bring that up.
As far as her being a nimwit goes, would you have been more impressed if she had claimed to visit 57 states, like that “educated” “well-spoken” Obama did?
LOL – seriously? When Obama said 57 states is was so obvious that he misspoke and meant 47 since he also mentioned only having 3 more states left to visit in in that exact same sentence.
No, Sarah Palin’s dimwitted nature goes much deeper. Like her recent claim of not wanting to support frivolous research like experiments involving fruit flies. Anyone who has spent any significant time in a science class knows tons of scientific research involves fruit flies. Specifically recent research involving finding a cure for Autism – a subject which she claims to care about! How about how she cut the budget for the Special Olympics in Alaska in half while claiming to want to help people with disabilities? And as for her experience, the entire state of Alaska has a lower population than some major cities in this country. Please.
BTW-was McCain a socialist when he backed the $700 billion bailout? Because that’s the biggest socialist US bill to pass EVER and he was really trying very hard to claim credit for it.
Oh please. I don’t even think some Americans realize how badly they would get laughed at if McCain were to win & then die while in office. Sarah Palin is a fool. I think it’s even better that there are Republicans that think McCain made a terrible mistake choosing her as VP. That speaks volumes.
Re: “I think it’s even better that there are Republicans that think McCain made a terrible mistake choosing her as VP. That speaks volumes.”
Sorry, but that doesn’t even come close to Biden himself thinking Obama didn’t make the best choice.
And I don’t see what voting has to do with impressing other countries. I’m not worried about the opinions of anyone that would laugh if he died in office. Like everyone would be thrilled with Biden as president?
Shoe:
I’m with you regarding the leadership in this country. I say let’s throw all of the bums out.
What concerns me about Senator Obama is that his fiscal policies mirror those of Jimmy Carter. I was a teenager in the late 70’s when Mr. Carter was President . . . and we had 10% to 12% unemployment, 10% inflation, and 20% interest rates. If Obama increases taxes on the producers, the job creators and the investor class, we are headed down the same road that Carter led us.
I’m not a McCain fan. But at least he understands that you do not increase taxes when you are in a recession. Unless, of course, you want to make the recession longer and deeper.
By the way, here is a video where Fred Thompson makes some very compelling points. http://www.fredpac.com/
I’m just disappointed that Mr. Thompson is not the guy at the top of the ticket. He delivers this message much more effectively than Mr. McCain.
Jon Poland
The recession was caused because of the middle class going bust nothing more nothing less. You can’t keep rebating the rich on the backs of those who make your rich. It’s really that simple. Ask Warren Buffet why he felt the need to say there is no way his final tax rate should be the same as his secretary. Come on people this is about making our whole country strong. Look at the big picture. I have made 250k before in a year and I don’t love taxes, but I can see our system will not keep afloat without a strong middle class period.
You know, you can always send a check to the federal gov’t for more than you owe.
Most of the middle class is suffering because they over extend themselves. Fancy cars, no savings, high credit card debt, homes WAY bigger than they need.
Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr for me.
It is time for the constitution to define America rather than partisan politics.
AMEN brother!
Ask anyone around you why our country is the best in the world and they will not respond with the correct answer- “because of our Constitution”.
We have to return to our foundation.

I was a Hilary supporter initially, and I’ll be voting for Obama. I don’t think I’d like living in the world according to McCain/Palin. I used to admire John McCain, but I haven’t liked liked what I’ve seen this year.
- I don’t need to see myself in a candidate. I’d like a leader who is at least as smart, or preferably smarter than I am.
- I don’t want a leader who uses air quotes when talking about women’s health.
- I don’t want a leader who thinks that pay inequities can be solved with better training for women.
- I believe strongly in “no single point of failure” and I don’t like the backup and recovery options for a 72 year old four-time-cancer patient as president.
- I don’t think either McCain or Palin understand the finer points of the complicated world we live in, nor see where the grey areas are. I don’t want a shoot first / ask questions later leader; I don’t believe we need a James T. Kirk at this time, I want a Jean Luc Picard.
I am voting for Barrack Obama. I like all of his policies and decisions thus far. Of course, when they get elected, that may be a different story. But between Obama and McCain, I definitely think Obama seems more prepared.
It makes me wonder why there are still undecided voters. I mean, these guys have been campaigning for years. If you haven’t seen everything your going to see from them, you must not be paying attention. Go to each of their websites and reads up on these policies, plans, and thoughts. What is making you still undecided? I hate when people wait until the last minute to decide. You shouldn’t….you’ve had a long time.
Shoe – echoing Charles’ statement above, I too, have been a bit put off by your political statements in the past. It’s true, you should be commended for opening the comments to political discourse.
I will be voting for Senator Obama. My reasons are many, but I’ll outline the ones that I think are most pertinent in this forum.
1. Senator Obama is in favor of net neutrality and Senator McCain is against it.
2. The campaigns are a great indicator of how well the candidates understand the power of technology and how it can be used to motivate, inspire, and spread the word. As an internet marketer, you have to be impressed with the way the Obama campaign has pulled this off. I have no reason to believe that he and his advisers would abandon this approach if he becomes president.
3. Don’t get me wrong, my decision is rooted in the issues, but this man has the ability to motivate and inspire like no one in our lifetime. If this country needs anything right now, it needs courage, motivation, and inspiration. This country has been running on adrenaline brought about by the fear that came on 9/11 for too long – fear, as a motivator, simply isn’t sustainable.
4. Intellect. I take pride in being well read, well educated (traditionally and non-traditionally), and well informed. I think our president should have that same pride and Senator Obama has shown that in his willingness to take advice, listen openly to the options, and make solid decisions.
5. We could have 50 candidates in this election and most everyone would still feel like they are choosing the lesser of two evils. It’s the nature of living in a country with 300 million people. Senator Obama has promoted with his campaign *precisely* what you are promoting in this post – involvement. It could certainly be argued that he has the most to gain from getting folks involved, but that’s what he’s managed to do nonetheless.
I’m happy to talk about this more. I feel very comfortable with my decision and am excited about the possibility of having Barack Obama as our 44th President.
Obama has never accomplished anything. Either as a member of Illinois gov’t or as 1st term Senator.
Regarding #5- we get lesser of 2 evils every election because most people do not vote in primaries!!!!!!!
I’m not even going to attempt to argue with you about his record in the Senate, because it is likely that no matter what I post, you will disagree. On the other hand, it is all but impossible to deny that he has surrounded himself with people who know how to get things done (in the campaign) and he has motivated ordinary Americans to get involved in the process and take action.
I’m not following your logic regarding #5. My point is, even if everyone did vote, we wouldn’t find perfect candidates – they simply don’t exist.
You have no accomplishments to list for Obama. That is why you wish to not engage.
Running a good campaign does not equal a qualified and good President.
He has not accomplished anything on the state or federal level.
How do you not follow my logic on #5. Let me guess- you didn’t vote in the primaries. Ask people around you if they did. THEY DIDN’t. Yet they will be the ones to whine about lesser of two evils.
I just did a quick search and saw that in Utah “That turnout was 14.3 percent of all people registered as Republicans on Election Day”
Look up the stats. People don’t vote in primaries, which are more important than the general election.
They both suck. I’ll vote McCain though since Obama’s plan to fix the economy from the bottom up simply won’t work. It’s a nice thought but It’s been tried all across the world and it just doesn’t work.
Yet you think McCain’s will? What don’t you think will work?
Yeah I mean trickle down is working so well right now. Sure some guys get rich but nothing trickles down. Look at the inequality of wealth in the last 20 years, and you will see it looks like a cliff. I guess it’s fine if your on top, but when they pull the plug (what’s happening right now)your wealth will get drained just like everyone elses.
Obama’s plan is a quick fix. Sure it will help some immediately but the long term effects will offset short term benefits. When you start taking money away from people who own businesses that actually employ people and pay them a salary the long term effects eventually catch up. Obama’s plan spells inflation all over it. When you take money from business, prices go up and people lose jobs. Either way the consumer pays, but when you take money from business, consumers end up paying even more.
What I think won’t work is taking money from the people who create wealth, and handing it off to people who often times can’t balance a check book. Those people are going to run out to Wal-mart with the extra thousand or two they will have and buy a bunch of crap that is manufactured in China. Honestly, that is what will happen. I see no benefit to the economy there.
70% of the GDP is consumer spending your business is absolutely nothing without money for those “Wal-Mart” people to spend. So typical of the me me me culture of America. You got your Hockey mom oh wait she just dropped 150k on clothes because she’s just like you. Not to mention McCrook who comes back finds his wife disfigured dumps her and marries a trophy wife. Look at him for what he is and that he is no more of a hero then any other person that serves this country he just got caught. You would think after living through that he would have better temperament towards war, but that monger is surrounding himself with the neocons again.
Since you said you think they both suck, I think it’d be better if you didn’t vote at all. I can’t stand it when people pretty much say “Well, they’re both no good, but I’ll vote for this one!”
WTF
Re: “Since you said you think they both suck, I think it’d be better if you didn’t vote at all.”
Right, you should only vote if you think one is perfect and hate the other.
How does not voting make more sense than voting against the one you like the least? That’s exactly why you vote. There’s no requirement to join a fan club when you vote.
I wonder how many retards that don’t vote will be complaining within 5 minutes of hearing who won.
I prefer experience over anything else. If the candidates were Surgeons then I believe most peoples decision would be hands-down the one with the most operating experience. Imagine your next major surgery by a Surgeon with less than a full-year of experience who, talks and acts like he could do the job but has never actually performed a single surgery? Further, if the Surgeon has had the operation himself and understands what his patients go through then again, that qualification only boast confidence in the tasks at hand.

How can a millionaire be undecided when one of the choices is all for redistribution of wealth?
I don’t label myself but I generally subscribe to republican ideals. That being said, I’m voting for Obama. They’re both qualified, but I just don’t think McCain can offer the enthusiasm for change that needs to occur in order to shake up existing bad policies. Obama’s excitement and motivation toward being President seems genuine to me, which is something I don’t think we’ve seen in a candidate for a long while.
McCain’s words regarding Obama: “He’s not experienced enough”. I think it’s just the opposite. McCain has been in politics for too long – he’s too enmeshed in how things work, too entrenched in an already bad system. Maybe we NEED someone with a little less experience, so they can see things from a different, fresher perspective.
Biden has been in there longer. What about Robert Byrd. The Democrats have dinosaurs as well.
Obama. I’ll take judgment, intellect, and humility over experience any day. Because I believe in Washington, experience just means corruptness. And as a techy I am a big fan of the Obama Campaigns tech savvyness. It’s impressive and I think his administration will be the most tech and science friendly administrations we’ve ever had.
I’m not really impressed with either one. However I am voting for McCain as I have my own business and it’s growing and i seriously don’t like the message of “Spread the wealth” that Obama is putting out. Obama says that we have a “moral obligation” to help those who are in need and are a part of the have not crowd. My take on it is that if our Government makes it mandatory that we “help” by taxing us more that takes the moral obligation out of the equation. I want the decision to be mine as to where I donate money to help others. I certainly don’t want it to go to people who don’t deserve it. I work hard for my money.
The ’spread the wealth’ is a tactic in order to help the nation as a whole. Yes, you may work hard and make $250k+ each year, but if order for you to make that money, you most likely need the middle class to buy stuff from you. By following Obama’s plans, this will help America as a whole. However, if you’re only about helping yourself, I understand. If I was making $250k+, I may be thinking differently.
That is called socialism. It is not the role of our government to redistribute wealth.
The spread the wealth is not a tactic to help the nation. It is a tactic to get votes from people that want free handouts and like socialist agendas.
Solutions to people’s problems come from themself, other individuals, local community groups, family, friends, church groups, charities.
I guarantee you that Bishop reinvests most of the money he earns and that provides jobs for people.
People keep trying to dub Obama as a socialist, simply because of this this plan. I agree, it isn’t the role of the government to distribute wealth. In order to make a tax cut possible for 95% of American who need it, he is doing this. How would you suggest going about it? There is no ideal way, but this way seems most logical.
Who said he necessarily had to make a tax cut. I’m sorry to tell you but it’s not my fault if I’m rich and the other people are not. That’s life.
Thank you Patrick that’s what no one not smart enough to look past their own pocketbook understands. Look the best capitalist of our time will tell you what you just said Warren Buffet. You know what 70% of our GDP is from? Consumer spending…. well when you have no middle class you have no economy. Look at the spreads between the top earners and the bottom of the depression. You will see the exact same thing(the divide) it’s all right there in history. In fact it was quoted at that time when The top and bottom have such inequality of income the only way you can keep them up is with credit. Well you’re seeing that right now the only way most could afford a home anymore especially on the coasts was with exotic no option arms. Interest only etc loans. This is the real thing wrong with the country. You will still be rewarded for working hard, but if you think you can keep humming along without a middle class well you’re in just about any other third world country.
At least 40% of people do not pay ANY taxes!
70% of our GDP is consumer spending, but that cannot prop up your economy forever.
We have the worst savings rate among developed nations. The disparity between wealth has NOTHING to do with INCOME, but with SAVINGS and money management.
So that tax cut to 95% of people is bullshit. 40% don’t pay taxes. It is a handout. Giving people handouts DOES NOT help them. It encourages them to spend and the economy rolls along, but they just rack up more debt trying to keep up with the Joneses. It is a generational problem.
So if you give handouts, consumer spending jacks up. But if you tax large corporations and small businesses more, there are less jobs.
You are better off with MORE JOBS and real productivity than people spending money carelessly.
Warren Buffet is not the best capitalist of our time. Best investor, maybe. The best capitalist of our time would be JD Rockefeller, and he, I am sure, would support McCain.
250K is not rich especially if you are a joint filer. Think everyone’s taxes aren’t going up if O wins? you are kidding yourself.
I haven’t O talk about reducing spending at all. If you ran a company and were spending more than you made. What would you do first? cut your expenses or raise your prices?
The whole “spread the wealth” discussion cracks me up! Don’t you realize that that is what taxes are in general anyway? Think about it – income tax takes a % of your earnings and lets the government spread it around as they see fit. And for that matter, Bush and his cronies have been spreading the wealth around for the last 8 years – the only difference is they’ve only been spreading it amongst the top 1% of America.
Is that seriously the MAIN reason you’re voting for McCain?
You wouldn’t have a country if it weren’t for people standing up against taxes.
The stance on taxes reaches further than the issue itself. It tells a lot more about what the candidate believes in, their philosophy, what they think the role of government is, etc.
Sorry, I’m posting twice because I forgot to mention an interesting read at Real Clear Politics comparing the election of Obama to Jimmy Carter’s election in 1976. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is NO comparison between the two as men. Obama is a born leader, charismatic, talented and all the rest. But there is eerie similarity between the two’s campaign platforms, versus what they (Carter, and Obama if elected) did in office. Inflation went through the roof.
Quick! get this info to McCain!! Obama is just like Carter…that is funny.
McCain is in for sure if this leaks out
I am voting for a third party candidate. Baldwin, Nader, Barr, McKinnon I don’t believe it matters much which one since none will be able to gather enough votes to win. I do believe it is important to vote just to show there are many Americans who do not want to be pawns of the fake left/right paradigm which is really just a duopoly controlled by world bankers and the corp. 100.
McBama will change nothing both candidates are controlled by the same shadow govt. that controls Bush. Oh, there is no such thing as a “shadow govt.”
You better look at Eisenhower’s final speech as President and JFK’s speech to the Natl. Newspaper Publishers in 1961: “For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence–on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice …”

Our war of life is slipping away and will be completely gone very soon.
That’s true, at least you’re voting. If you don’t want to vote for Obama or McCain vote for a third party..
I’m undecided as well Jeremy. //g
I doubt Jeremy is undecided. He endorsed Obama on this blog just a few months ago. What was the title “Yes I can Barack Obama” ?
The real question is Jeremy blowing smoke up our skirts or has he changed his mind?
I’m an Obama guy. We don’t line up on every issue…but we line up on the ones that I think are going to matter in the next four years.
There’s also the issue of trust.
I don’t trust McCain at all. I don’t know if he’s to blame or if its the people who run his campaign, but I continue to be let down by the GOP this year.
I actually trust what Obama is saying.
That’s not to say that everything he wants to do will get done…but I think that his intentions to better the country are genuine.
Dr. Ben
Intentions are almost meaningless in Politics. You need people to be right.
Regardless, I truly believe that McCain does what he thinks is right. He writes crap bills with people like Ted Kennedy. But that bill is still crap.
What has Obama ever done? Nothing for Illinois- he voted present ~140 times. Never once challenged his party as a 1st term Senator. No accomplishments.
We need people to be right. And being right means shrinking government. Your only chance at getting that is with McCain.
That’s the thing. I really don’t think we’re seeing the real John McCain at all here, and it’s really sad. IMO, the people who are running his campaign == huge FAIL.
Yep even though I am voting for Obama I think if McCain would have just been himself I think he could have won the election or at least stayed close.
McCain requested the money from the Russian embassy. This is documented fact. I think it is unworthy step for the future president.
I’m a regular commentator, posting anonymously to this particular question.
I’m voting for Chuck Baldwin.
I really like Obama as a person and I greatly admire his optimism, but I detest most of his policies, especially the economic ones.
I wasn’t a big fan of McCain, but I slowly came around and decided that I would vote for him. And then he went and said that he wants the federal government to directly purchase bad loans from homeowners, and that was it for me…I can’t vote for him.
Baldwin is the only candidate that I can be happy with pulling the lever for. I don’t buy the whole “wasted vote” thing. I think we’d be a lot better off if everybody would vote for who they want, regardless of who the media tells you has a chance to win.
If everyone voted, the results would be almost identical. Maybe a few more minorities would vote, or a few more naturalized citizens, but that’s it. The same half-logic that gets people to vote then, would be the same we have now.
who is Chuck Baldwin? Is he one of the Baldwin Brothers? Just kidding
I say it is a wasted vote at the national level. focus on the house and senate to shake up the entrenched parties.
Being a former Bush supporter, I’ve decided to flip the coin and vote Democrat this time. I always vote on the person and issues, not the party. I honestly don’t think McCain will do this country good (and that doesn’t mean Obama will do any better, but I think he is the best for the job). Also, I would be scared sh*tless if Sarah Pallin became our President because McCain didn’t live out his 4 (or
years. I think Bush did a good job his first term and I was all for him his second term, because John Kerry would have been scary! But, during Bush second term he seemed to slack off and lose some esteem with me. John McCain is too closely related to Bush and his antics that I cannot bring myself to vote for him and the same old rudderick! The gimmicks, the slander, and the political gotchas are enough already! It’s possible Obama is not the best man for the job, but he definitely shows more passion and seems to have the country best interest at heart.
Awesome, flip a coin to decide the leader of the free world? You could just not vote and save the flip. Let it be known, that this is the way most people think about politics. Don’t wonder where the country went.
You took it completely out of context. I didn’t mean I “literally” flipped a coin. I am simply stating that I am voting democrat opposed to voting republican as I did last time.
And you are saying this when you above in a comment said you are not voting because you didn’t want to give a vote of confidence to either. I would rather pick someone who had a few things in common with you than just vote for no one.
You were a former Bush supporter? Quite surprising.
@TYCP Entertainment Magazine
Why is this surprising? I don’t get it!
@SumContent
No one ever said “not voting” … voting for the lesser of two evils has always been a practice. Just because you have quirks about both candidates don’t mean you shouldn’t exercise your right to vote and choose the candidate you most feel will lead the country in the right direction. “Not Voting” is not an option (at least for me).
Well…I’ll say this…advertising is all about getting to that emotion. Congrats! Your traffic will now go nuts.
As for politics, I agree with you. I was pretty involved with it for awhile, to the point of running for office, and am considering jumping back in; but there is so much to fight against just to be heard b/c the media is great at shaping stories for their benefit. It’s huge cause for that apathy (not knowing who is on the ballot) you referenced.
I’m still undecided; but unfortunately in 2008, like 2004, will be another year of voting for the lesser of two evils for me.
Go for office. If you are good enough, you’ll be assassinated.
That’s cold. Sadly partially true though.
I too am disscusted with how the congress, senate leaders seem so lost with their jobs of the people and not for themselves. The top leaders of all of congress are not capable of leading, listen to them talk for 5 minutes and they are only in it for themselves and not for the American people. Sad really. Term limits come to mind. Time to have a change of the guard in congress, may we will elect leaders that are looking out for the people.
Maybe do a right in vote for President and congress. hmmmm interesting.
Won’t make a difference, but it might make you feel good.
I find it unfortunate that you seem to understand what is going on and the problems with the two major parties and our government as a whole. Yet you choose not to vote.
Therefore you are no better than any person that votes for someone they know nothing about.
What a waste.
Please tell me that you voted in the primaries at least. If you didn’t vote in the primaries and you still have this attitude, I kindly ask you to fuck off. Nobody wants to hear someone spew that shit hopelessly in vain.
It would do you some good if you listened to this great quote:
“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.”
Where do you fall?
Well said!
Hey look, two people kissing each others’ asses! Too bad your votes are like gnats before meteors in this corrupt system. I wonder which evil will take more of your rights this time? I wonder if America will really be better in 50 years? The ability to understand is not a stamped guarantee to participate; remember that. Knowledge of flaws gives you the opportunity to save your time and go for what works.
I agree with you Shoe! I know how my rep voted on the bailout. They supported it, so they are getting the punt by me. My fiance does not keep up with anything. She’s currently Democrat because her parents are, and she gets her information from what she hears from people around her, not from facts. When I ask her questions about the role of government, she goes toward the right.
I’m Libertarian (former Republican) and I did not want McCain on the ticket. I’m either voting for McCain or Bob Barr.
For me- I will never vote for anyone that wants to raise taxes on anyone. People making over $250k already pay a disproportionate amount of taxes. I’m 26 and make $90k so Obama’s deal wouldn’t necessarily affect me now, but I will get to the point where I do make 250k.
Plus, I don’t believe it is the role of government to redistribute wealth. Our Constitution gives certain powers to the federal gov’t. Those that aren’t are reserved for the states and to the people!
BOTH PARTIES SHIT ON THE CONSTITUTION. Democrats moreso. They think it is an old document and only use it when they argue for their socialist causes.
We are a Republic, not a Democracy. People do not realize this nor do they know the difference.
I think that alot of people were upset with the GOP ticket this year.
So many folks want to vote Republican, but just can’t stand McCain.
Oh, and there’s that whole BUSH thing….
It’s a tough spot for the Republicans this election.
You think the democrats are the ones that stomp on the constitution? ACLU anyone? If anything they are the only thing keeping big brother from monitoring everything you do and say. Neither party is perfect, but saying the democrats are the ones stomping on the constitution is laughable. What I hate about the right anymore is when you step back and look at it they care about no one but themselves. Are you a humane or not, because that’s what it boils down too. All this personal choice crap is BS what about the starving kids or the veterans that they are always so quick to send to war, but never want to take care of when they come back. Look at the real deal here your worried about your taxes going up, when in fact yours won’t, but yet most have no problem spending a trillion dollars on an unjust war that could pay for healthcare for most people in the country for a long time. If another Neocon wins this country is on it’s way to the crapper. I for one am ready for America to be inspirational again leading with it’s example not by its bombs.
I said both shit on the Constitution, Democrats moreso. The ACLU is a good idea in theory but they are bad in practice. They spend their resources worried about protecting the rights of terrorists and the rights of others to disturb funerals of fallen soldiers with political activism.
Furthermore, big brother doesn’t give two shit about monitoring whatever trivial crap you do on the internet. They care about getting your money to setup shit programs so they get re-elected, get handouts from companies with agendas, mortgage our future, etc. THAT IS NOT RESTRICTED TO EITHER PARTY.
Democrats elect judges that legislate from the bench. Look at all the bad rulings out there. Disregard your stance on abortion for one sec- Roe vs. Wade is a BAD apple. Judges are not there to determine laws from their bench. That is a larger pile of shit on the Constitution.
My taxes won’t go up, but apparently that part went over your head. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TO SAY THAT ANYONE SHOULD PAY A LARGER, MORE DISPROPORTIONATE amount of anyone’s hard earned money?
There is a thing called principle. Just because it doesn’t affect me doesn’t mean that I should disregard it. Our founders revolted because of some little Stamp tax. You would have sat idly by and taken it while great men laid the foundation for you. That is principle.
The solution to the tax bullshit is the FairTax. No more tax credit bullshit. No more politicians on either side using tax formalities to garner for votes.
First libertarians are the housing point for the same crap that both democrats and republicans are pushing. They push the constitution when they want to be heard.
As for Fair Tax, it’s an over complicated version of the taxes we already have. If you really believed in fair tax, you’d say that taxes should be set federally, by the constitution, at 5% of yearly earnings on all individuals and entities. It doesn’t take that much money to run a government; just THIS crappy government that is bloated with everyone’s favors because they are poor, minoritous, or corporate.
I’ll take a Flat Tax like Forbes proposes, or even your 5% flat over what we got.
What I like about the FairTax is that it promotes more savings and collection is easier than the flat tax. People can still game a flat tax.
I’ve thought long and hard about this, and I actually just sealed my absentee ballot yesterday. I was leaning toward McCain in the beginning, but over the past few months, I’ve decided that Obama is going to be a better choice for the country. Why? I feel like he will move the country in the right direction, and I feel like McCain will keep us going down the same path. Continuing the massive spending in Iraq AND cutting taxes? Just doesn’t add up.
For congress, I’m voting for the Republican candidates for both the house and senate.
I’m not voting for anything on the ballot that I am not familiar with (school boards, etc..)
As far as the vote for president goes, my state is red through and through, so it probably won’t matter anyway.
You might be surprised…. my state is always “red”….but things are getting really crazy here….Obama might pull it out in Missouri this time.
Of the past 10 elections, SC has only voted for the democratic candidate once (1976 Jimmy Carter)
It would be a pleasant surprise though.
I’m in Missouri, and people here aren’t getting any smarter. Who cares how they vote. People are as dumb here as they are in California and any where else in the world. Whether they pitch for Coke versus Pepsi is completely irrelevant.
yes it does add up it is called a war. Now is no time to start taking from the “rich” and giving it to the poor. Let’s save those high minded ideas for times when we are at peace and are not in a recession.
I think I’m gonna move to Australia. Ralph Nader anyone?
I still blame Nader for the 2000 election.
I like Australia because of the monetary exchange rates; and then the dollar fell apart. Now they are just another crappy government. As for Nader, he’s just where the democrats are headed. He is a special interest man that wants to break up corporations.
What a voice you have, and what a shame you won’t be using it in the election. You, my friend, are just like all the others who sit at home and complain when things don’t go their way, rather than get off their ass and do something about it.
It’s just UnAmerican not to vote.
Same here. Ralph Nader sure likes to mess things up. His ass doesn’t have a chance in hell.
I can’t believe you just used the term ‘unamerican.’ You must be the real patriot; with your comments on my comments about my nationalism. One wonders where your political ties lie, nay? I’m as American as any founding father, which means I am a free market capitalist that wants the constitution enforced at any cost.
I was just kidding about Ralph Nader, by the way.
I’m voting for Barack Obama. This country’s government needs a kick in the pants and I feel he’s going lead us and inspire us to a new, higher frontier of America. Plus, he bodysurfs — a president who catches waves has got to be cool, right?
Anyway Shoemoney I’ve been a little put off by your political comments in the past but I now admire your willingness to come out and talk about it with us readers. Thanks for being so direct and honest.
All you undecideds: please take a chance and vote for Obama.
I’m decided, I won’t vote. As for you Shoe, stay into politics, as often as it strikes you to do so. There are too many people that come here to enter the economy as independent players, and no nothing about how money actually reaches their accounts. Then, they remain clueless how the market can do bad or bubbles can burst.
glad to hear that you are clear. Think of it this way now you can sit back an pick apart whoever is in office because none of them were your guy
Thanks for your post and insight. I would get all into it on a deep level but for now I will leave it at this. George Bush has not made me feel very “comfy” with republican leadership. The dregs of his spying on American, war for I dunno what? and streams of lies, misinformation and shotty intelligence have just turned me way off on Repubs for prez.
I am independent in business, life and politics, so I am one of those who have waited to make a choice for sometime, but given the two tickets so far?!? McCain is just old, boring and out of sorts and real devisive of late. I used to respect him before the last few weeks, but it has declined tremendously. Still he is a nice old dude… you know, like I want to give him a hug and some warm milk, but as the new CHANGE leader? There does not seem to be much new in what he has said so far.
The choice for me as an independant and as a person who deals with employees and suppliers from many different countries really becomes clear when I hear them (friends inside and outside our borders) speak with hope that Barack become the new change leader of the “free world”. It is extremely exciting and rare to have a person in our midst that can move people to action w/o all the old school mechanics of politics, but pure God given ability to be a leader among men and woman.
To have someone, in a President, that makes leaders of the world fall at his feet, just to shake his hand and get next to him and hear the words he speaks is a feat that I have NEVER seen in my 40 years on this earth. To take that ability to inspire and challenge men and woman to do better and change this country, its future, our scorched earth policies and the glass ceiling of politics is un-matched! That is a good position to have the head of our country be in IMHO. I want to be back in touch with the world, I want America respected again. I want us to be great once more. That is what I want!
You are correct, this is historical, and America is at a crossroads. I am afraid that the wrong choice this time could possible seal the fate of this great country and we should all sit back and think about where we need to go cause this is our destiny TODAY. This is NOT a simple my side your side, this is going to be the future of America forever. Choose wisely for this might be our only chance for change.
Thanks,
john
“That is my 2 cents and it is overpriced!”
The only thing America needs to do, is return to free market capitalism. Political officers were never supposed to affect the flow of economics. Instead, through central banking, the FTC, FDA, and various other groups, we have given away our right to choose for the highest bidders. Who care how charismatic a leader is; his job is to shut up, sit there, and do NOTHING that affects our interests. Oh, and it’d be great if he didn’t vote away our constitutional rights.
For someone so outspoken in these comments, a few comments back it seemed you have no intention of voting. Will you be voting? Who for and why?
If you won’t be voting, does that mean you think you get to complain about the choice the rest of us decided to make, upon your failure to make a decision?
I do get to complain, because I’m paying taxes for a system that voting doesn’t make a difference in. I shall do as I please when the system wants me to whore my money to it, but not provide me the freedom to be free of it’s financial wastes.
Re: “I do get to complain, because I’m paying taxes for a system that voting doesn’t make a difference in.”
I think you’ve pretty much just confirmed that you’re a lazy kid that isn’t capable of making a difference.
The only legit reason to not vote is because you simply don’t care about the country (move) or because you’re too stupid to do something as simple as pick the lesser of two evils.
If you really can’t pick a least favorite out of two people as different as McCain and Obama, that puts your ability to think at somewhere around a third grade level.
Anyway, unless I’m missing something, it looks like you’ve peaked out in life as a lazy whiner. You’ve put 20 times the effort it takes to vote into whining in forum comments. You’re quite the political activist!
I don’t like either front runner. I suppose I am still undecided, but I will probably go with a third party candidate like Bob Barr. I don’t think that voting for the lesser of two evils is equivalent to voting against. Neither is voting for a third party either, but I’ll agree with David on the no-confidence.
I think that everyone might be surprised by just how well Bob Barr does.
He won’t be the next president, but I do believe he’ll have an impact.
Who is Bob Barr?
You sound like the average voter. He’s no one.
yeah, thats what i thought, I’ve never heard of him, so doubt he’ll do that well..
Wow, it’s not ambiguous to me. I’m happily (and proudly) voting for Obama. It’s the first time in my life I haven’t had to vote for the lesser of two evils.
Not voting is the lesser of two evils.
Why would you not vote. If anything vote for a 3rd party candidate that you feel strongly in. No president is going to do every single thing that you want but you must pick the one who agrees with you the most.
Of having no voice. If you don’t vote, you have right right to complain.
No right*
not true, if you don’t vote, you have no right to complain.. VOTE!
I’m an independent, so I feel I can freely choose my candidate(s) in a non-partisan way. I agree, the entire long election process has been fascinating. I wish I was a PolySci student right now. I was undecided until fairly recently, and will be voting for McCain/Palin. I believe the downside is far worse with Obama (though he is likable and resonates with a large portion of the population); the comments by his own running mate about other nations wanting to “test” Obama in 2009; his socialist economic policy. McCain is by no means the ideal guy, but I think we’ll be better off in the long run with him – plus, it will balance out the Democratic dominance in the Senate and House.
What about Palin? Has she affected your decision? It should.
Selecting Palin shows why being a “maverick” can be bad and it seems like it’s coming back to bite him now.
