Guess The DOW Twitter Challenge

by Jeremy Schoemaker on October 7, 2008 · 49 comments

This morning right when the market opened I decided to have a contest to win a brand new ipod touch if you could guess the correct amount +/- the market would end up at the closing bell.

There were lots of guesses but only one winner! @toekneehip. Click here to congratulate him!

Here were all the guesses:

@santaseo (santaseo) says:
@shoemoney -94points and at minus another 700 in the next 18 months
@jrdorkin (Joshua Dorkin) says:
@shoemoney I’ll take the under – My bet :D OW closes down 227 points
@rondavis007 (Ron Davis) says:
@shoemoney Finish even, so zero change
@bsutherland (bsutherland) says:
@shoemoney +101 for the Dow prediction
@rgremill (rgremill) says:
@shoemoney, in that case I predict Dow +103 points
@John_Taylor (John_Taylor) says:
@shoemoney -87 whatever that means! LOL I don’t even follow the footsie never mind the dow
@johnpwooton (John Wooton) says:
@shoemoney I say up 95 points
@toekneehip (toekneehip) says:
@shoemoney, dow will be -475 today.
@johnpwooton (John Wooton) says:
@shoemoney I say it’ll be up on speculation of interest rate drop
@niessuh (niessuh) says:
@shoemoney How could I predict if you’re not following me and I can direct message you :) )
@VaBeachKevin (Kevin Rogers) says:
@shoemoney Dow +160 points today.
@mloovi (mloovi) says:
@shoemoney down 47 I reckon, I know nothing about it but that’s what figure popped into my head :)
@alandd (Alan Dayley) says:
@shoemoney Complete and utter guess, not even reading the news yet this morning: +322 (unreasonable optimism, I guess)
@moneymatters (Money Matters) says:
@shoemoney My guess is that there will be a 100 point gain in the market today.
@drvthru (DriveThruInteractive) says:
@shoemoney I’m caling it early – DOW closes +129
@nicheblogging (nicheblogging) says:
@shoemoney Although with the debate scheduled for tonight I doubt anyone will let it tank.
@BarbaraKB (Barbara K. Baker) says:
@shoemoney Dow up 177 points today :)
@sizzler_chetan (Chetan Bhawani) says:
@shoemoney +220 is my prediction
@andymurd (andymurd) says:
@shoemoney My DOW prediction +280
@billnad (Bill) says:
@shoemoney Twitter contest for the DOW? I see +45 And let it be known I am the worlds worst stock picker
@eriqtan (eriqtan) says:
@shoemoney: -26points. twitter contest… predict closest + or – gain in todays DOW win a cool prize
@askfrasco (Stephanie Frasco) says:
@shoemoney @feedthebull I am going to say it is going to close at +100
@jcoronella (John Coronella) says:
@shoemoney you mean ‘guess’ not ‘predict’
@dbayer (Daniel B) says:
@shoemoney Dow goes down 50 Points
@FeedTheBull (FeedTheBull) says:
Markets starting off relatively flat. @shoemoney is giving away a prize to the person that predicts the closest + or – gain in the Dow today
@geegel (George Cozma) says:
@shoemoney Most likely there will be a rebound. I say +122 points
@themage (themage) says:
@shoemoney I wouldn’t bet against a full scale colapse.

I just started using Twitter and it’s a really great way to update your status to users! It’s a really powerful tool for bloggers and webmasters.

I decided when I saw the contest to not enter, but I guess I made the wrong decision, because my guess would’ve been down 500. Oh well, maybe next time.

Hey Shoemoney: check out: http://www.google.com/search2001

It’s what Google looked like back in 2001 and do a search for “shoemoney”

Do one for “JOHN CHOW” lol! The result is hilarious:

Welcome To The Wired World Of John Chow
Skip Intro.

That’s what he looked like back then I guess.

I have been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
