You Know You Have To Vote, Right?

Posted October 5th, 2008 by Jeremy Schoemaker

Dear fellow citizens of the United States Of America who are eligible to vote:

I have voted in 4 presidential elections in my life (everyone eligible) and never has it had as much meaning as this one. As of right now I am still undecided but I will make a decision in the next few weeks.

Please vote.

I was tagged by a few people for this meme but instead of tagging 5 people I am tagging all of you.

Please remind your friends to register to vote

Register to vote and for the love of god vote on election day.

Google has taken an initiative in this and has a really great feature in Google maps to help you find out how to register and where.

If people have to be encouraged to vote, if they don’t see it as their right and enjoy exercising it, then why pursue them? Democracy only belongs to the engaged. Unfortunately, big business and special interest are more engaged than the American population. That is why our government belongs to them.

If the best people can do is vote once every four years then we deserve what we get. Where was this patriotic fervor during the primaries? When we really needed people to vote and be engaged. If Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich were their party’s nominee, then I would be stoked.

Something I find extroardinarily ironic about all the get out the vote campaigns. Those who are the ones who wouldn’t normally vote are necessarily the ones who are least informed about elections. Do we really want people who know the least making decisions during the most important election of our lifetime? Somehow this doesn’t strike me as a good idea.

I agree …vote. If you don’t vote, don’t whine. If you didn’t do your homework and know what you are voting for, don’t whine. We are a global society. The decisions you make when you vote will not only influence the way things are run here in America but around the world.

I think people really need to get up their behinds and go vote. Many complain about their government but never vote when it’s elections. I really think the youth out there needs to come out more to vote, as this is their country’s future being decided upon here.

It seems like every four years I hear the same mantra; “this is the most important election…” This belittles the point that every election is important, and every election is about the future – an election cannot change what has already happened.

The election – is an important game for those who opt for the presidency. It happens only once for the candidates.

No, I don’t have to vote. In fact, I choose not to vote. Voting gives my consent to be governed by these crooks. Any vote whatsoever on the federal level is a vote for the establishment…period.

Why do they always have these “rock the vote” type rallies, but don’t care who you vote for? Because the simple act of voting gives them power, and says you implicitly agree to what they are doing.

Imagine if only 10% of the population voted. Anyone who was elected would have a lot of gall to claim they “won” the election and was the people’s choice.

My vote is statistically insignificant anyway. I’d rather play the lottery. Better chances.

In case you misunderstand my point … it’s not to NOT vote … it’s that you really should try to decide where you stand on things before you just go and vote … so many people don’t even do this. They are too busy trying to get by, or ____ or ____ or _____ … but not stopping to take in what is going on in this CRAZY time in US history is disgraceful.

What a lame post, that is so PC it’s funny.

    Voting != Good American.

Knowing who you are voting & voting = Good American.

Only vote if you know about the issues. If your idea of being knowledgeable on this election means scanning headlines from the media … please DO NOT VOTE … you dilute the votes from those that do care enough to at least try to understand what the deal is.

Never before has the media DECIDED FOR YOU who to elect in such a way. So if you are going to vote by voting for who your buddies are voting for or who your favorite celebrities are voting for or **gasp** if you are voting so you can be in alignment with the popular crowd, either get up to speed quick or stand by and watch.

Actually, these are probably the most unimportant elections in the last 60 years. Both sides are pretty much the same, slightly different methods.

Sometime its really hard to choose who is better between 2 bad candidates. If you have to choose between a thief and a robber, in my opinion you should choose the thief – he will do less harm. Its all the same in every country. I don’t think good people do politics.

I am registered to vote, and will vote. This video has a very liberal theme to it, IMO, but it still gets the point across. Here in Arizona they have a cool setup where you can actually go online and request an early ballot, for whatever reason you want. I am totally for voting, 101%, but I am not to much for standing in line and getting up early to do it. If thats my only option I will beat the door down at 6 am, but hey, I am leagally allowed to vote early here in AZ. So what do you think I am doing? Thats right, the early ballot is already in the mail to me.

Voting is a very important thing here in the United States. I was able to vote for one presidential election and this will be my second time for that.

It is also important to vote for the other candidates and issues that relate more specifically to your state, township, or city. These things can also have an influence on your life and shouldn’t be overlooked.

I have made up my mind on who I will vote for on the 4th. I hope other people will learn about their options and go out and vote for the people / things they think will be in the best interest for the people.

BTW – by all means, if you are a big fan of wealth redistribution and love socialism then go vote for obama – that way you never have to work again, you can simply rely on the hardwork of others to pay for all your needs – rely on the government to do everything for you.

Obama hasn’t been around as long as both of them so you would expect that they have more experience than obama. Does that matter to you? Funny how they make fun of palin because she hasn’t been around a while but nobody says anything about obama’s short timeline in politics. Here’s a question: is obama better suited to be president more than joe even though joe has more experience when experience seems to be such an issue with you?

I think Carlin said it best…

….I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don’t vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, “If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain”, but where’s the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain.

I, on the other hand, who did not vote — who did not even leave the house on Election Day — am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created.” – George Carlin

Nah, if you have some crazy legit excuse not to vote, like on the day of voting something tragic happens, that’s okay. But otherwise you’re right, JUST VOTE

Really though, go out and vote. Every single voice counts and should be heard.

The Prez election is just one trigger on a ballot of MANY! Local elections have just as much impact on us as the big one does. Know your local issues as well…

I often find myself voting for onw person, just to cast a vote AGAINST the other one….

I totally agree and that is a great point, in Cali for instance there are some important issues like gay marriage as well as much tougher sentencing for gang related crimes

I agree with you Mark. I think many people overlook the local elections during this time. You are more likely to see the impact of local gov then national.

well I know I should vote, but really, what is the point again? besides all the “no vote, can’t complain” bull that every slings around…

You don’t just have 2 choices to vote from. Other’s from independant parties are running. Like Ron Paul.

I understand this. And I guess I could vote for the guy on the bottom, but to do that just so I can complain makes no sense.

I see a government just bail out crooks that took our money to begin with and I am supposed to choose the best one?

Did Bush say anything about economic downturn and how he was going to fix it?

It’s hard enough to choose the right one, but if I am going to watch people lie (the debates), I guess I’ll just watch Cops :)

The point is that you have the power to choose your future. If you think they’re putting out bull, look for other options. Don’t let others choose your future, you have to go out and do something for yourself.

The first PRO CHOICE movement in this nation was to establish voting, now we think pro choice stands only for abortion.

You want to preserve your rights and your right to choose? Use what freedoms you’ve been given and Vote!

Just as long as it doesn’t go like the recent bail out… ie, didn’t go the correct way first time around so let’s do it again until we get are way attitude. Awesome.

Your point is very pertinent too. If the medicine is hard to swallow, disguise it with a sugar flavouring and try to feed it to the kids again…..Politicians are very good at rewording their story until it sounds acceptable enough to be passed by “popular” vote.

Voting is part of democracy, if you don’t vote, don’t whine when things go wrong..

    • Good Comment?

Exactly! There are alot of people who whine and complain about who the president is, but they didn’t get off their lazy asses long enough to vote themselves.

Calling them lazy is a bit far, some people have just experienced the whole election thing so many times they can’t be bothered anymore. After all no one is going to make the world perfect.

Yup, if you look at voter turnout in the US it’s SO low. Perhaps if everyone actually participated in democracy, everyone would have the right to truly complain about what is happening
