the one thing I don’t like about the air is not having an optical drive… I don’t use it much as is but I know the few times I needed it, it would drive me crazy.
Macbook Air is limited but should not be a replacement for your main computer or main laptop for that matter. Should be for travel and other limited uses although I do agree to some extent it sucks not having the optical drive. I would probably go for the Macbook Air still

ye, I agree. For me, functionality always is priority over design. Because when you really think about it, with notebooks/laptops, you hardly show them off in public like you do with mobile phones. So in the end it’s about how it works for your needs and not for show

I would definitely go for the macbook air. I’m a huge sports guy, and travel a lot, so having a laptop by my side is a must. The macbook would still be nice, but for the ultra portability, and oh-so-sexy macbook lust, I’d go for the Air!

I’d take the regular MacBook. I don’t even have a laptop at all so if I did get something I’d rather have something with a little more oomph behind it.
I rarely make use of a CD drive, I can often get by with using a USB memory stick (including for OS reinstalls) so I guess Mac AIR wins it for me
There are situations when you really need a CD Drive though, thats when you start to feel your $1,xxx investment wasn’t so smart..lol
The Mac AIR is not intended to be a consumer’s primary machine and this is demonstrated by its lack of inputs. I would be scared if I had only one USB port, no direct Ethernet port and had to only rely on the wifi’ functionality on my primary machine.
But hey, who’s complaining when you may win a free laptop :p

I’d have to pick the macbook air. Mainly because of travel I want something really light. The macbook’s razor sharp edges are just too painful to deal with. I sold my old black macbook for that reason!

Wow two Macs!!! This is one of the best contests I have ever seen.
For portability I think I would take the MacBook Air. They just take up so little room that it’s ideal for the things I do on a daily basis.
I looked at them and you lose a lot of stuff with the Apple Air computer. You don’t get as many plug inputs. The battery you can’t change like you can with the White MacBook.
The AIR is wicked cause of its weight and thickness but you lose a bunch of stuff to get that.
There are what 2 USB ports, no optical drive eithr a IDE or SSD harddrive etc.
I mean I rarely use CDs or DVDs (like once a few months), the USB I can use to attach external storage etc since I would primarily use it for blogging and photography etc. I have 3 desktops at home so if i need more perhiperals I am ok there.
I just don’t want to be lugging all this stuff with me where wires can get tangled up. The MacBook has everything you really need. The Air almost does.

I’d pick the white one, because it’s a little more flexible with what media you use. Plus I still haven’t abandoned the CD/DVD Drive yet. Maybe in a couple of years, I’d choose the Air, but for now I’d go with the White Macbook.

You shouldn’t really have to buy extra products on top of an already expensive laptop though should you.
Well you should buy warranty and accessories to keep your laptop safe and a notebook case to carry it around.

Bigger question really is do you really want to me using a MAC? Everyone has their own opinion and it seems as though the 2 people yourself and John Chow are finally converting over to MAC from PC’s…always been a PC guy but that might be a sign it is time to move on.

I have done video and audio podcasts primarily for iTunes U and as of late I had to forego video all together because it became an increasingly painful experience (too slow, audio & video sync problems, etc). Plus, I can’t use the newer iLife package since it needs an Intel processor.
I’ve been working on a six year old Powerbook G4 (titanium 1ghz, USB 1.0, 802.11b, broken firewire) that has been with me since my Sophomore year of College.
Needless to say, I would enjoy either the Macbook Air or the white Macbook.

(presently typing on borrowed laptop since Claudia -my Powerbook- is busy restoring from a backup in USB 1.0). =(

Ohh a macbook air would be sweet. My Mac Book pro is just too big and bulky for traveling. On my flight back from Ad tech, some lady complained that the movie I was watching (Superbad) was offensive. A Mac book air would change my life!
I’d say the AIR. extreme portability compared to the laptop I lug around now.

Yes, that’s the major benefit of the MacBook Air. It’s simple, light weight, and easy to carry around. Unfortunately it’s size can make it an easy target for thieves to steal it.

I think it would be hard for me to choose between those two laptops. The drawback to the macbook air is that it doesn’t come with a internal cd drive. But other than that its pretty sweet. I’ve been wanting a laptop for a while now to bring to school, but I just don’t have the money to get one. My imac g4 is on the verge of crashing, and a new computer would be great.
