Just over a year ago I interviewed Krista from Photrade and did a review of their service. Its a great photo hosting place where you can also make money with your pictures.
I just recently caught up with Krista again during blogworld:
Photrade just recently launched a new contest system where you can hold contests for your users. I have a feeling we might see one of these on shoemoney.com soon

September 28, 2008 at 1:15 pm
I use their service, the’re actually pretty good.
September 29, 2008 at 12:02 am
I wasn’t using their product before I read this post, but I’ve just spent the last 30mins playing. Cool service
September 30, 2008 at 1:40 pm
@HSD – I’m glad that you are enjoying it
Let me know if you have any thoughts/ideas for improvement!
October 1, 2008 at 5:13 am
I almost forgot I had signed up for their service about a
year a go. WOW! Some of my photos have been
distributed all over the place, it looks like they’ve done
well.
October 5, 2008 at 6:53 am
Thanks to Jeremy, Photrade has been exposed to thousands of new visitors, and hopefully new users. I am a new convert thanks for the tip!
September 28, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Wow this site sounds awesome. The link blocking feature is really cool
September 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm

September 28, 2008 at 3:00 pm
I smell more Apple products in the air
September 29, 2008 at 3:07 pm

September 29, 2008 at 4:27 pm

iSwitched…I’ll get that shirt if I ever win one.
September 29, 2008 at 10:26 pm
ha I would get one too! I could use a macbook so badly!
October 1, 2008 at 4:50 am
Hehehe! I like your word play on that.
October 5, 2008 at 6:56 am
His prizes are always special…..gotta love it, indeed. One day the Macbook Air will come home to roost….
September 28, 2008 at 1:41 pm
That sounds pretty neat. I’m really looking forward to their plugin, it’ll really come in handy.
September 28, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Looks great. I like the link blocking feature. You can really control what’s going on with the photos!
September 29, 2008 at 6:52 am
I agree that looks very good.
September 28, 2008 at 2:01 pm
It sounds pretty cool, I got a contest coming up next week or so.
September 28, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I got a contest going on @ blabweb.com giving away a free blog review, you have to subscribe to my rss feed by email and let me know you have, and your entered!
September 28, 2008 at 2:17 pm
You interview a lot of people Shoe. Pretty cool.
September 29, 2008 at 12:52 am
not me..
He is enjoying the stuffs.
September 28, 2008 at 2:17 pm
I never heard of this. This is a pretty cool concept. Hoping to win one of your contests Shoemoney.
September 28, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Interesting concept… contests always attract a lot of traffic.
September 28, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Yup, assuming the prizes are noteworthy! That’s where those Apple products come in….
September 29, 2008 at 3:09 pm
as long as you can get sponsors to provide some sweet prizes you will get some traffic.
September 29, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Shoemoney doesn’t need sponsors, lol
September 28, 2008 at 2:58 pm
blog traffic seems to be low latley… As a whole I mean. Looking at Alexa for a lot of big blogs, the amount of traffic seems to be going down steadily.
September 28, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Alexa is pretty much BS. Ask Jeremy and see if the traffic is really going down. I’m sure it’s not.
September 28, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Obviously you have to take their stats with a grain of salt… But even for shoemoney.com they show a steady decline. (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/shoemoney.com)
Maby less and less people are using Alex’a whack ass toolbar.
September 29, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Check google traffic trends, they’re much more accurate.
September 28, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Alexa stats are very skewed in certain market niches and, of course, it is not a great tool for the traffic estimation/comparison. Quantcast is much better in that aspect, but still, Alexa toolbar is useful as a rough indicator of the site’s importance. When you stumble upon some website that you never heard of, it’s always helpful to have at least a remote idea of the site’s popularity.
September 28, 2008 at 11:51 pm
I’d bet on a decline in Alexa toolbar users.
September 30, 2008 at 1:42 am
I don’t even bother with Alexa. I find it funny how it will say some of my sites’ traffic dropped, yet, Google Analytics has a different story.
September 30, 2008 at 2:39 pm
As I said…. Its for a general idea of whats going on.
September 30, 2008 at 4:29 pm
It’s not even that. The idea of using a voluntary toolbar for gauging the popularity of sites is flawed right from the start.
September 28, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Shoe,
Thanks for the post, forgot I had an account with Photrade. BTW I won’t mention PicLens (Cooliris.com)anymore as I see you use it in your gallery, LOL. Photrade with a Cooliris plug in that would be PhotoCool.
Regards,
David G.
September 30, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Hi David
Great idea!!! We’ll be launching our API over the next few months at which point at cooliris plugin would be great!!
- Krista (from the video)
September 28, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I missed the first post a year ago, so glad to catch this now. It’s pretty cool how the internet makes it easy to make money from your photography. Love the idea of a “contest engine”!
September 28, 2008 at 10:16 pm
me too, sounds awesome!
September 28, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Yup, I remember that post from last year…. still in beta at the time I think. Sounds like they’ve grown up quite a bit since then!
September 28, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Looks like an interesting service. Will check them out now!
September 28, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I think that I need to read more about this service. It’s the first time that I listen about it! ^^”
September 28, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Neato, guess i have another reason or two to log back into the site
September 28, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Great opportunities to make money with photos. I’ll have to check this out.
BTW, don’t let you wife see this video. It kind of looked like she was smitten with you.
You like that word: smitten?
September 28, 2008 at 4:51 pm

September 28, 2008 at 5:34 pm
They are some bugs in the site, I want to sign up but it keep giving me the wrong or an error page!
September 29, 2008 at 1:39 pm

September 28, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Looks like a great idea!
September 28, 2008 at 6:56 pm

September 28, 2008 at 7:25 pm
could be good if it works
September 30, 2008 at 4:53 am
It should definitely work. I have a feeling.
September 28, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I think for a Shoemoney contest you should give away subscriptions to shoemoney tools
September 29, 2008 at 3:10 pm
lol i am sure he is.
September 29, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Yea, he probably will. It’s the most cost effective prize for him since it costs him nothing at all, and most people will probably renew anyways.
September 28, 2008 at 9:47 pm
I haven’t heard of this site before, but seems like I should check it out.
September 28, 2008 at 10:13 pm
This is Unique concept ..Thats really good idea ..This is first time i saw that …
September 28, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Pretty nice tool/service. Will be big. I wonder why nobody else couldn’t figure out to build it yet.
September 29, 2008 at 1:38 pm
The best of things are actually so simple… but people just dont see it happening …
Appple falling from tree… is it a rocket science ?
September 29, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Not a rocket science — Newton’s law of gravity. =)
September 30, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Exactly .. but only newton figured it out
September 28, 2008 at 10:49 pm
I talked to them at BlogWorld also and plan to check it out, plus the Beta. Perhaps next contest also.
September 28, 2008 at 10:54 pm
I need to check them out
September 28, 2008 at 10:56 pm
I’ll try it. Maybe this contest will work better than the one I am running now? My current contest is for an iPod Nano and I have hardly any entries!
September 28, 2008 at 11:53 pm
ha, I don’t see how mentioning that on a place like shoemoney would possibly get you more entries! (/me runs over to check it out…)
September 28, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Nice to see they got funded.
September 28, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Hey Shoe:
What kind of unique-weird twist will you put in your contest? Whatever it is, I know it will be cool…
September 29, 2008 at 12:18 am
I can see they have a few good improvements to the site not bad. I also like that they are trying to do something unique which is always good for original concepts. I will have to wait and see what else they come up with. It looks like to me, they are heading in the right direction.
September 30, 2008 at 7:20 am
Fresh idea is the engine of progress. -)
September 29, 2008 at 12:52 am
we want to see another contest
September 29, 2008 at 9:04 am

September 29, 2008 at 1:18 pm
I am waiting for another contest
September 29, 2008 at 3:24 pm
What are we going to do about our current economy.
September 29, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Privatize profits and socialize losses until everything is magically fixed, of course.
September 29, 2008 at 4:06 pm
This looks like a cool idea, looking forward to seeing the contests
September 29, 2008 at 4:42 pm
This site sounds great. I’m looking at the competition side of things at the moment and love the monetization aspects.
Also the posssiblities of the firefox plugin sound awesome. Looking forward to this.

Jeremy
It was awesome to see you at BWE again this year! Thanks to you and your readers for all of the kind words on our site – we have been working hard over this past year. We are really excited about the progress and are looking forward to some sweet contests!
- Krista
September 30, 2008 at 2:00 pm
That is a cool service..but how is it different from every other picture hosting site? I guess hers would be considered good if it new, as other picture hosting sites are saturated, making it pretty hard for you to make any money off of them.
September 30, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Jeremy,
Thanks for the great post! Sorry I missed you at BWE. Looking forward to joining your contest,
Andrew (Photrade.com CEO)
September 30, 2008 at 5:50 pm
The FF photo finder sounds wicked, that is the first I have heard about that!
I remember your post least year….I was too late for the invites but I lobbied directly with Krista and Andrew and they obliged
October 1, 2008 at 5:02 am

October 1, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Shoe$,thanks for revisiting Phototrade. Sounds like a fantastic service. I will find a way to start making some money through them. i am amazed at how you have impacted these services, through your recommendations. Are you going to start your own Oprah List?
Best regards, Matt Thompson | Mattheosis.com
Original Orthodox Hubby @ Home Dad
October 2, 2008 at 6:35 pm
i’ll look into them
October 3, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Photrade is a nice way of making money with your pictures.
I have posted a bunch of them already.
October 4, 2008 at 1:31 am
It looks like lots of people have tried it, and in these comments are saying it’s a great site. So… has anyone actually made money from PhotoTrade?
October 5, 2008 at 6:55 am
That’s a very good question. Is there a users blog or forum discussions?
October 8, 2008 at 4:14 pm
I think Photrade is a great service, and I hope they grow to be a staple in this industry.
