Wordpress 2.7 Update

By Jeremy Schoemaker 93 comments

With all the recent traveling its been a few days since I had last synced my SVN wordpress install. I was pleasantly surprised to see some of the new features.

2 in particular caught my eye.

Quickedit function- Within your admin panel under your posts there is now a option for quickedit:

If you click this it pops up a box with all the little stuff you can edit on your post:

Reply to comments from admin

The other cool new feature was the ability to reply to comments directly from your administration panel:

Nice little Ajax box pops up:

Looking good!

  1. Looks great, and I can’t wait until they release the version. Don’t you think it’s risky to use “beta” versions of wordpress? :)

    • I never install beta versions or even first releases. Because it’s a hassle to upgrade and there is almost always surely a newer patch within a few days of a new release.

    • andrew says:

any idea when they will release this version ? (so I can plan ahead the updating part and everything)

      • Ann-Kat says:

It appears that Shoemoney is using the SVN version (i.e. bleeding edge, which isn’t even beta…it’s pre-pre-beta LOL).

As for the release, that’s currently set for some time in November 2008, but that’s if all things go well.

Hi Jeremy! Where did you get WP 2.7 version?
Usually WP notices when you have to update - I’ve got 2.6.2 version and still no announcement.
Thanx for comments anyways - it looks WP 2.7 will little bit more comprehensive!

  3. ritchie says:

Indeed, the quick-edit function is very handy. I’m using the extended-admin plugin, does basically the same thing.

  4. mudanzas says:

wordpress is working hard on usability, now they have to work on user interactions

  5. Clog Money says:

Even as a small time blogger those features are going to save me time. Now where did I put that autoupdate plugin…..

  6. Dev says:

it looks great lets test it then we can says much about it. word press always rocks for bloging.

  7. mrkbsm says:

Good stuff - those are pretty convenient features. Thanks for the heads up!

  8. Moneybites says:

This looks really really good, I love the reply to comments from admin.

  9. Dick says:

Wordpress continues to please us with new updates. This is a good thing. I love the stability and tradition. -))))))))

  10. Lorettar says:

It’s nice to see some really user-helpful features popping up for this next update. Reply to comments from the admin panel is very cool!

  11. Wow, new Wordpress! Impressive new feature, can’t wait for it to launch…! Hopefully this time it won’t mess up during upgrade.

  12. HSD says:

    gotta update mine too

  13. jim says:

Those are some good little additions…. I wish they’d add the time a post is supposed to publish on that Manage page, would make scheduling a tad easier.

  14. Marty Martin says:

That’s going to be really handy. I love usability improvements that make my day easier.

  15. James says:

    All hail WordPress!

  16. I already use plugins that do this stuff for me. So not too excited about the new version. Just means another upgrade I’ll have to do and possibly encounter problems with my blog.

    • Hehehe! Yup I know what you mean about “encountering a problem” with your blog with this new version. That’s because new versions scrap out certain functions of the previous version. It happens a lot with Frameworks version updates. ;-)

    • SMM Guru says:

You must have some UbEr cuStom hacks on your wordpress ;)

    • Ann-Kat says:

On the bright side, it means that you won’t need to worry about upgrading the plugins or those plugins breaking future versions of WordPress. It may be a little hassle now, but in the long run, it can mean fewer. ;)

  17. Melvin says:

wow… the reply thing in the admin is awesome!

  18. Balkhis says:

Yeah … I saw that too… These are some nice features

  19. Thanks for the previews and the screenshots, Shoe! Now you have me interested in subversion. Definitely drooling over the 2.7.

  20. Josh says:

what’s a good resource to upgrade with the wordpress SVN? any ideas?

  21. egruve.com says:

i will be using wp soon and will look for these new features.
    thanks

  22. Reply to comments from admin is a great feature. It’s about time!

  23. Bryan says:

I like the ability to respond to comments within your admin panel. Nice little timesaver and good update overall.

  24. The reply in admin panel I’ve had for quite awhile, via plugin. That is a huge time saver, and glad to see that it’s native to WP in the new version.

I’d like to see a few other features I use plug-ins for become integrated, like some of the search features provided by yoast.com (great plugins by the way) where search results are highlighted, search suggest, etc.

  25. Lyndon says:

I guess, I get to act surprised next week at WordCamp; when they give the WordPress 2.7 presentation.

Thanks to Shoe, I know most of the new features already :)

  26. SEO next says:

  29. thats pretty sweet… i need to look into how you are updating wp because doing it manually sucks.

  30. PTC Blog says:

I love the new reply from the dashboard feature! That is a big time saver for blogs with a ton of comments!

  31. MouthyGirl says:

I can’t wait for that update to come out….granted I have 9 sites I’ll have to update, I’m cool with that, that comment feature looks bad ass and I can’t wait to have that availability inside my admin panel.

    Thanks for the heads up….
    ;D

  32. SMM Guru says:

These are the kind of updates I ave been waiting for. New features, not just bug fixes.

  33. EfitPedia says:

The new reply from the dashboard is great, can’t wait to see the rest

  34. Patrick says:

  35. Önder says:

it look like a good idea. quick edit! why cant i think about it before, i rally dont know.

  36. I love quick edit. And I’ve had the reply to comments from admin panel with a plugin for a while now and it is so awesome.

  37. River Girl says:

That replying to comments is sweet. Usually wait a bit to upgrade. Nervous Nellie.

  38. Jeremy,

Thank you for spending some time with me after BlogWorld Expo 2008 and the interview you provided after the SuperPanel with John Chow.

  46. Jarret says:

These features just keep getting better and better. Can’t wait for 2.7 to come out, looks like it is a lot more streamlined and will be easier to use as well.

  47. Reid says:

I love wordpress, its great to see they are still actively adding great features to it!

  48. Farrhad says:

Its time i upgrade my blog too :)

  49. SEO next says:

the only issue i see with all these features being added is the number of queries which will be required for display of each post … which might become an issue @ some point of time…

  50. Okay, I love those features. Can’t wait until this is finally released to the public.
