For the first time the 2 presidential candidates will appear together on prime time TV. Its going to be LIVE on CNN at 8PM EST.
The questions will be asked by Pastor Rick Warren. When quizzed what he was going to ask the candidate Warren responded:
You know, John, we’re going to look at four different segments. One is a segment on leadership. What is the personal character, competence, and experience of each of these guys.
One section will be on what I call stewardship — the role and responsibility of presidency, what they believe about the constitution, the role of America.
We’re going to look at a section on world view — all of the minefield questions that no matter how you answer them, somebody’s not going to like it. Then we’re going to look at America’s role internationally. How we’ve been a blessed nation and how should we bless others.
The setting will be in Pastor Warren’s SaddleBack church.
I got on board the Obama express pretty early with his message of hope and change but its time to bring some substance to the table. With the polls having neck and neck I think tonight could be a tipping point for one of the candidates.

I kind of lost respect for Rick Warren after this because it seemed like sort of a set up with McCain knowing all the answers etc and Obama not. There are so many comments on here about “you are rich why would you vote obama” and I am also a person who is very wealthy and I like to think beyond losing a couple thousand extra out of my income yearly if my children and my grandchildren will be better off in this world. Our economy is so bad right now we could use a president in there to bring things back up.

I stand corrected by events as they play out. It appears that Randy Scheunemann is as close to McCain as Brzezinski is to Obama. Which means that you get the shooting war with Russia no matter who you vote for.
I’m a McCain supporter, but I’d love to finally hear some substance from Obama. Just in case he actually does win. I want to have some lead time to know what all us entrepreneurs and small businesses will be up against.

McCain is truly incompetent. Don’t know the difference between Shiites and Sunnis, don’t seem to know much at all about the world around him. If, like he says, we will have to stay in Iraq for a hundred years we will go even more broke then we are now. A war with Iran is just impossible, the army is to stretched as it is. If McCain would continue the Bush-line of going around the world fucking up we’ll soon end up like the Roman empire, overstretched and very vonurable.
McCain would be four more years with Bush, and nothing could be worse then that.
Obama plays “Peanut” to Zbigniew Brzezinski’s Jeff Dunham. At best, you get Carter 2.0. At worst you get a shooting war with Russia.
If you go for McCain, the shooting war is against Iran. No day at the beach, but at least it’s survivable.

Jeremy, Interesting campaign so far. Convincing a nation of your abilities, merely by answering a few questions, before actually becoming President and walking in those shoes for awhile? Makes one wonder how we can ever predict how well a person will perform. Steal from the rich – always works to get he poor to vote for you. Its the poor who often are ill informed and believe everything they read in the papers. But they all have a vote and can make the difference.
Considering how many people are poor and/or stupid, it was smart of Obama to run with the steal-from-the-rich idea.
I’m not sure I believe there are really enough people stupid enough to put him in charge, though. If Gore or Kerry couldn’t win, I can’t picture this POS winning either.

If I lived in the US, I would be leaning towards Obama right now – especially since McCain has reportedly been resorting to say bad things about Obama instead of good things about himself.

John McCain was not astounding, he was allowed to stump speech and ramble, filling the time with thematic anecdotes. Mcain unlike Bush these days, is seeing Osama Bin Ladin and Al qaeda, they are evil but we know evil comes in more froms then McCain talked about. Evil is as OBama said comes with good intentions as well , think Abu grade.

I’m rather surprised you’re on the Obama train. McCain isn’t much better, but Obama has a very infant perspective on the economy. He wants to raise taxes for the rich not because it bring in more federal revenue, but because it would be “FAIR.” how is it fair to tax those making more than $200,000 a year much more from their hard-earned money? Why? Because they’re successful and entrepreneurial? Makes perfect senses.
I don’t often comment on political items publicly, but for this Ill toss it out there. Plus or minus 10% both of these “politicians” will keep their promises as much as congress will allow. This being said we are talking about the executive branch. We are voting for an idea more than a person. McCain Offers tax cuts for the upper income brackets, and anti abortion to the religious sector and “security” to the masses. Obama reflects the next generation of thought however, and whether this is really true as in the days of FDR or JFK time will only tell. I am no sucker and I vote for many different reasons, from defense contracts in my area to tax breaks for foreign businesses being allowed to start up production in my area. On the same side of the coin I also am highly aware of a need for social change. This widening of the wealth gap between who has all the toys and who does not is starting to get out of control. Those of us who are willing to work for a living with good ethics but are trapped even with a college education because of a figureative glass ceiling will only last so long. I am not complaining by any means, I am actually quite moderate. I look forward to the future where the government does not tell its citizens what it does with its personal lives as long as it is not infringing on the rights of others. I look forward to a day when those who wish to work hard for a living are rewarded. I look forward to a day where we take care of our business at home before we outsource all of our problems to the rest of the world. I look forward to a day when we are no longer being fooled that drilling for an extra 2-5% of sweet oil will solve the financial crisis that our morbid obsession with oil created in the first place.
I look forward to the day where our infrastructure set the standard worldwide. I look forward to the day that we lead the world via hope and sharing out blessings.
I’m also realistic and know that these types of changes take generations. Outside of the odd revolution their is no other way. Slowly we will move towards better precedents or we will continue with reganomics and let the gap grow so wide that who knows what will happen.
Btw I look forward to seeing both of the presumptive nominee’s on stage together. This will definitely be something for the ages.

I agree with you that America needs change. I also find it unique that someone who makes your kind of money (speculating) would vote democrat. I will probably vote Obama, but for those of you who think a politician will change all of America or the world are insane. Please just do your research and vote for who you believe in. Don’t just vote because you like one advertisement on television over the other or Shoe says who he likes. Educate yourself! Do the research and then vote.
Something tells me Tom is right and McCain will be favoured by this event.

It’s going to be a long campaign. There will be a very clear contrast on the issues in this election. Obama’s positions are more inline with the American voters at this time, so it’s up to him to articulate that as clearly as anyone has since Bill Clinton.
Tonight is a big night for Obama, McCain has keep every evangelical vote he can because he’s lost the Latino vote that Bush did so well with.

I think this will be very interesting. Rick Warren is what christians should actually be with helping poverty and helping people live better lives, so many “pastors” now look for the camera, selling books, dvds, and touting the size of their congregation and don’t actually care about what it means to help and preach to your people. I have given my maximum to the Obama campaign after studying all of his plans in detail that you can find on his website http://www.barackobama.com/index.php. I think Obama can be a great leader of our time and look to see him in the white house.
Barack Obama hopes he can get AmeriKKKans to forget about his 20 years with G-D Rev Wright.
And he hopes people will forget or ignore the fact that he supports partial birth abortion and has voted against (several times) the BAIPA (Born Alive Infant Protection Act) which protects babies who survive the abortion procedure rather than leaving them to die abandoned on a cold hospital shelf.
Meanwhile the National Pro-Life Youth Organization sent an open letter to Warren asking him not to ignore the crucial issue of abortion. This is an important issue to most Christians in the country. But, considering that Barack Obama has a gruesome record on abortion the “Faith in Public Life” people will probably skip over the life issue.

Why in the world would you decide to “get on board” without knowing his substance? All he is right now is a smooth talker and if you look at his “substance” it changes every couple of weeks. Does McCain flip flop? You bet, I’m not happy with him either. But Obama’s all over the place on the exact same issues within days!
How were you a Bush supporter in 00 and 04 and now you’re supporting Obama? Makes no sense really.
I think any polling at this time is pretty meaningless. We’ve got a whole summer ahead of us.

In 2004 George W. Bush took 78 percent of the white evangelical vote, while Democrat John Kerry took 21 percent. And a recent ABC-Washington Post poll showed McCain with the support of 67 percent of white evangelical Protestants and Obama with 25 percent.
This is a conversation, not a confrontation
Warren planned to ask each of the two men precisely the same questions so voters could draw clear comparisons.
While the two candidates are taking questions from Warren, a daylong assembly of evangelicals will be wrapping up at the other end of the country.
It will be the first time that’s happened since each candidate clinched his party’s nomination and it mostly likely will be the last time we see them together until they face off in the presidential debates in late September and October.
