Hi,

Is this a website directory? It seems to be a different one, because visitors can comment on each others websites like in social media sites.

I was just doing research on local directories (YPs). Perfect timing. I’m noticing big offline players losing position in serps to online only properties. Wishing BOTW all te best!

Great idea – if you can’t rank with your own SEO, you had better list yourself with someone who can.

no place for a link placement, no link juice…F it

That’s great. And who cares if it doesn’t have a place for links. It’s still free promo.

Is this like Merchant Circle? I thought I liked that directory until I was logged out and I did a search for our company. It came up with an additional listing at the same address without all the customized info I put in, and then it suggested that I also check out 5 of my local competitors!

ShoeMoney, thats great info. I design websites for businesses, so maybe this is something I can also do for future clients.

My team and I just started our website, and I just wanted to invite everyone who read this to check out the site, and enter our weekly raffle for a FREE exclusive HTC Shirt.

I built a site for Sioux Falls, SD that is similar to this… I want to do more with it and promote it so that businesses will pay a small listing fee to list their business each year. If you want to check it out click the name in my comment. I would have to agree with Geiger that there is money involved in local websites!!

have made some look at the site and the www and found they have great rep….

I’m not sold simply because Google steals local search traffic with fancy listings AHEAD of real rankings. Also, does anyone remember Marchex flooding the local market with 100,000 websites 6 months ago? That didn’t work out so well, their sites don’t show up in search results very often which kills the “local search” purpose.

Time will tell, local search is a tough sell, I hope I’m wrong for their sake – great company.

$9.95 a month for premiun with link juice ;-)

While giving an overall positive review, I also warned the world about Shoemoney Media Group’s occasional failings and gave a good tip on how to control them.

Jeremy,
Where did you say your business was located – do you just say your house/office for a website?

Reply

41 Le Melon August 12, 2008 at 11:25 am

It’s different, that’s for sure! I like it!
I think it’s primarily an offline business directory but you can easily list websites there.

is this going to be useful for people out of the US

nice design, but only for US :(

Reply

46 Paul August 12, 2008 at 12:52 pm

@Jeff – Yes it is.

I this this is only an okay service. You have to pay if you really want an impact from it. Since I do not want to pay the $10 a month it is not worth it to me.

I think that the only value that a directly can offer now a days is its ability to help with SEO, either directly or indirectly.

Reply

48 hobbies August 12, 2008 at 3:41 pm

$10/mo is a lot cheaper than the regular listing as well.

Reply

49 greg August 12, 2008 at 4:09 pm

The offering is currently limited to businesses in the US.

Reply

50 Zander Chance August 12, 2008 at 4:28 pm

I just added our business, but it sucks that most of the useful features cost $$.. Monthly charges FTL!

Reply

51 Justin Cook August 12, 2008 at 5:27 pm

True enough, but I think this is the wrong approach. Apart from Google Local, I believe that the only way to have real success with a local directory is to be focused on one locality, instead of spreading your efforts thin.

Reply

52 lasvegascom August 12, 2008 at 7:00 pm

It is very simple. People will try it and if it doesnt drive traffic or calls to these local websites then it becomes another “web” directory that provides little value.

58 Reid August 13, 2008 at 11:02 am

I think web directories are unfortunately becoming obsolete simply because people have become to accustomed to using google, yahoo, and other search engines… Not that results from directories don’t come up in search engines but I think you get what i’m saying.

Like always, on the front of all the news. Thanks Shoe.

Question, how do you keep or how can one receive such news to be able to keep up or be in the “IN” on the net marketing pulse? How do you do it?
