On The BBgeeks Podcast

Last Friday I was on the BlackBerry Geeks Podcast. Up until about 2 weeks ago I was a die hard Palm Treo user but the frustrations of the phone locking up, blue tooth incompatibilities, and other bugs led me to the Blackberry world.

In the podcast I talk about my experiences with the Treo and the 2 Blackberry phones I have used so far.

You can listen to the podcast here.

If you are a blackberry user I highly sugest subscribing to their RSS feed and or following them on twitter!

Question: Since you changed everything to Apple in your working enviroment, why did you switch to Blackberry and not to a iPhone too?

1 – i have been a mac user since the early 80′s before the macintosh even came out and always had a apple computer around.

2- i will answer this in a future post.

I’m curious about this too.

I love the idea of the transcription interface however, is this done with a computer or is it actually people? I would hate having other people listening to my voicemails! Plus, Sprint’s text is limited to 160 characters!

The iPhone is great (I’ve had one for almost a year), but I can totally see the reasons for sticking with a BB, especially for business users. The only advantage the iPhone has there is the full browser. I was really frustrated with how locked my iPhone was, and then when I unlocked I got nothing but bugs bugs bugs.

Just curious what service you are on. Verizon? My main reason for going with a BB for my wife instead of an iPhone.

what blackberry do you have ? don’t remember you mentioning it on the blog

If e-mail is critical, no doubt that the Blackberry is king. However, I have e-mail on WinMob using Exchange ActiveSync, & it works flawlessly. I assume the same will be true on iPhone 2.0. Of course, if you have no need for media on your phone, then Blackberry may be the way to go. But if media & internet are your main desires, then it’s hard to beat the iPhone.

I’d love an article on why you chose this over the iphone, I’m buying one or the other pretty soon.

Iphone has a nice music player and browser for sure, but given a short amount of time RIM can easily achieve and surpass those features, no doubt.

Shoe,
I am also looking at the BB vs the iPhone 3G, I nearly signed up for the BB Curve with verizon, then I read that AT&T may be a better choice for Data transmission so I contacted an AT&T store. They suggested I watch the 30 minute presentation about the iPhone 3G, I did and now back to total indecision.

i am going to buy one soon, seriously !

Not to try to confuse you more but my experience has been the opposite. I have had better coverage with Verizon ( I tend to be in the mountains and remote areas often). The wireless card is faster as well. If you want to be cool and trendy get the iPhone / ATT. If you want/need the best coverage get BB / Verizon.

google for “iphone vs blackberry”…there are lots of articles on this subject.

Thanks for the input

Matt Leo,
I’m in the western NC Mountains and I agree on voice coverage, AT&T Sucks however I plan on keeping the Verizon for voice and looking for the best in data transmission another down side to the IPhone 3G I understand you need MS Exchange Server for Push e-mail which will be very important for me, not sure I want the extra expense.

Andrew,
Been there, It seems like BB or iPhone cults. I have very little Logical conversation. It’s kind of like me in the car Business just ask 2 rednecks “Ford” or “Chevy” if you chooses the right 2 your in for a show, God forbid you bring Dodge into it, LOL.

Thanks Again,
David G.

P.S. My wife says if I get caught in a rainstorm I’ll get electrocuted for all the stuff I carry now.

Andrew,

Interesting I just realized I had been leaning so heavily toward the BB so every search I did was BB vs iphone, I just did a search iphone vs BB with very different results.

Anybody with good unbiased links please pass them on.

Regards,
David G.

Very curious about this. I like a lot about the iPhone- but am not completely sold on it- think other phones are more for me. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this phone.

The iphone looks cooler, but if you want something that works and is reliable then the BB is the way to go.
