Thanks for letting me know about Knol. I will have to check it out
August 5, 2008 at 7:14 am
I linked to that post the day before you did
Google isn’t suited to providing content, it should just index it.
July 31, 2008 at 8:18 am
Maybe they need to streamline the DMCA process.
July 30, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Interesting! Knol is a very good new service,Thanks J.
July 30, 2008 at 1:52 pm
i think Aaron Wall has a good shot and getting his seo articles to rank he’s a genius but really dull so he might need a little help on making his articles a little bit more fun to read
July 29, 2008 at 9:26 am
Has anybody out there gotten their Knol to rank yet?
July 29, 2008 at 9:18 am
Probably will have the same thing as WikiPedia. They’ll have their own versions eventually.
July 29, 2008 at 9:17 am
fyi: Adwords lets you direct traffic to Knol pages!
July 29, 2008 at 2:01 am
thanks for sharing that link pal.
July 28, 2008 at 8:14 pm
lol start using live?
seen this? cuil.com
July 28, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Yeah, time to start using live. :-/
July 28, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Google does everything big. You really think Knol won’t be a home run?
July 28, 2008 at 10:53 am
good article. I have been commenting for awhile that this type of favoritism was a risk for Google. as I said in January, Google will overreach and then decline.
July 28, 2008 at 10:39 am
Good read, thanks for the link.
July 28, 2008 at 9:54 am
Wow, This will definitely test their “don’t be evil” rule. If Google doesn’t filter out their own duplicate content then they fail.
July 28, 2008 at 3:03 am
Good article. Thanks, shoe
July 28, 2008 at 2:42 am
Is it any surprise that Google favors its own content? If you were google wouldn’t you do the same? I know I would. Google’s aim is to provide relevant search results, they probably see knol as a trusted information source and gave it a higher level of trust in the algo.
July 27, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Thanks for the heads up- I’ve heard a lot about this lately- this Knol is being mentioned everywhere!
July 27, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Actually a feeling comes into my mind that if the same trend is followed by Google, then the biggest MFA site builder is Google itself in future..
July 27, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Have you ever noticed that the page you wrote is not officially published on the web? Because you have to verify your name. And for that you have to be from the US only..
July 27, 2008 at 9:26 pm
It will be interesting to see how Google handles DMCA complaints against knols. Just ignore them?
July 27, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Interesting post by Aaron on how well knol pages are ranking even for duplicate content – copyright issues aside – I wonder if these rankings will stick. Game on spammers.
July 27, 2008 at 7:19 pm
I disagree, Aaron’s article seems to be pointing out that a knol article with exactly the same content as yours is going to rank higher; that is to say that Google is favoring the knol content in it’s ranking algorithms.
July 27, 2008 at 7:10 pm
The ad sharing does look like it could be pretty cool, but I’m not convinced that you would get any more impressions from Knol than you would if you posted an article on your own site.
July 27, 2008 at 6:10 pm
all yahoo answers links are nofollow too and yet it’s HUGE
July 27, 2008 at 5:53 pm
This is why content is king , if your content is just spam and MFA you wont be in top 10 , this is what google trying to do
July 27, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Great article, thanks for the heads-up Shoe!
July 27, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Awesome article. It won’t be long before Knol takes off.
July 27, 2008 at 5:25 pm
i also agree, that google maybe biting off more than they can chew here.
When sites publishing blatently stolen content are ignored by the big g it makes you wonder…
July 27, 2008 at 5:20 pm
It would be interesting to see what countries Google is allowing to publish from and which it was not.
July 27, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I see this as another example of Google believing they are the Internet and can do and take whatever they want if it benefits them. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think this is going to bite them in the rear.
July 27, 2008 at 5:12 pm
All outbound links are nofollow so it might not help as much.
July 27, 2008 at 5:10 pm
I agree, that comment is right on target. Google doesn’t follow the same rules from day to day.
July 27, 2008 at 5:09 pm
who said it’s only for US ppl ? i’m not from US and i could log in and access the write new content option
July 27, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I agree this is limiting but I’m pretty sure it will be rolled out to other countries. They will just be kept separate so it is a greater benefit to Google.
July 27, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Shoe just posted an article about it also few days ago
July 27, 2008 at 5:05 pm
I’m not really surprised to be honest…
July 27, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Shoe did a post on it earlier. It can be found at
http://www.shoemoney.com/2008/07/24/knol-knol-knol-my-boat/
July 27, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Wow this is awesome that Google no longer cares about the integrity of the content anymore but rather where it is hosted. Spam-Land here we come.
July 27, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Wow, they are really ranking it higher… Now we’ll see knol as the nr 1 result, wikipedia as the nr 2 result, and if you’re lucky you’ll be in the top 10 still.
July 27, 2008 at 3:54 pm
i like the part where he attacks google “Google Pays Thieves” hahaha
July 27, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Currently it just looks like a copy-paste work
hope it comes out a success in future
July 27, 2008 at 3:23 pm
I doubt that Knol will ever be as great as Wikipedia. Although I do like the ad sharing thing they got going
July 27, 2008 at 2:44 pm
I did a knol on Friday… did the whole verification thing and all including my bio stuff. Trying to work on it to see what kind of traffic we might be able to get with the knol’s?
July 27, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Doesn’t surprise me that they favor there own sites. Who wouldn’t? Seems like a neat idea though.
July 27, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Knol is already a loser by keeping it open just for U.S. people.. What the hell would the rest of the world do?
And now, get ready to see some copied content getting well indexed in Google through Knols!
July 27, 2008 at 2:38 pm
wow a tweet linking to a blog post the size of a tweet linking to someone else’s blog post. i love shoemoney!
July 27, 2008 at 2:37 pm
I’ve never heard of Knol before today. Thanks for sharing!
July 27, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Interesting…time to check it out, thanks
